Good vegetarian indian food. I went during a weekday evening and found that the only options were what they had out in their buffet. Overall the food tasted good although I would have liked to have the option of less carb filled alternatives. This is a no frills type of place that is located in a strip mall so don't go expecting to be wowed by the decor because it is really not much to look at. However, if you are in the neighborhood and enjoy vegetarian indian food that is not overpowered by creams and curry, I say try this one. I'm typically a huge fan of Indian food, I will eat any of it as long as its not too spicy. I given this place a few chances and everytime I am disappointed. They don't have chicken tikka masala or any meat for that matter. I like veggie dishes too but I just really don't like their food I guess. I know its homemade and all that but Ive been to other family owned indian restaurants that I loved. This place has amazingly good food. The buffet is fairly small, but the variety is very good and each dish was very different and just awesome. Go early for easy seating. We were there at about 6:30 on a Thursday evening and it was not at all busy, but we have driven by later and it appeared to be packed. I'm totally baffled that anyone could give this restaurant less than five stars. For the cost ($12 for the dinner buffet) this is definitely a 5-star restaurant. I have been here a few times. Its a veg only Indian restaurant buffet. They have different styles of Indian food (Gujarati, Rajastani, Maharashtrian) on every weekend. The food quality is very good. My only complaint is about the sitting space in the restaurant. It is very very cramped. The tables are very close to each other. After gorging myself on meat, meat, and more meat over Christmas, a delicious vegetarian dinner sounded good to me. This is a low-key place located in a baby strip mall across from a school. I ordered Combo 1, which is one entree item with rice and dal for less than $5--sweet bargain. The guy working the front was nice, and recommended the Chole Tikki Chaat. Went here after seeing it reviewed on check please. Very good home style vegetarian food from the Western Indian states. Every weekend they alternate the buffet between four different styles (Gujrati, Maharashtrian, Kathiawadi and Rajasthani). The buffter usually consists of 3-4 curries, 1-2 chaat items, couple of desserts. couple of rice items and they get hot rotis to your table. Items that have stood out for me are the Besan Ladoo, Shreekhand (must try, not many places serve this) and the chaat items. Brilliant, home-cooked Gujarati and Marwari vegetarian food from the western part of India. A word of caution: This is *regional* Indian cuisine; It is not your standard butter-chicken, heavy-cream-laden-curry type Indian restaurant. There are plenty of those but this isn't one of them. As such, some 1 and 2 star reviews for e.g. complaining about the lack of non-vegetarian options are somewhat unfair. However if you're looking for try out one of India's most unique vegetarian cuisines, this is a great restaurant to do so in. This place is just average. I ate there today, the place was very crowded, but we did not have to wait for long. I felt very full only after eating a little. There seems to be something about the food that makes it very heavy. I am not sure if others have had a similar experience, but my friends also felt the same. Yeah, another pure vegetarian joint! I don't have to worry about lazy chefs making veg and non-veg in the same vessel. I end up going occasionally, mainly because of the distance. For the most part, I have gone during the lunch buffets, which are pretty crowded. My experiences have been good. I have enjoyed the varied regional fare. Their phulkas are excellent. I have gone only once for dinner and felt it was a rung lower than the lunch. The interior is rather cramped and there can be longish waits to get seated. read more

The best home style Maharashtrian/Gurjarati vegetarian food in Bay Area! I have been eating here from the time when they were located in Mountain View. It's almost 10 years now. We mostly go for weekend Lunch/Dinner buffet. Each weekend they offer a buffet based on one of the four cuisines, Maharashtrian, Gurajati, Kathiyawadi and Rajasthani. This place is all about their food and nothing else. So don't go there looking for quiet, romantic ambiance or a place to socialize with a group of friends. It's tiny, crowded, and on weekends there is minimum 30mins wait during lunch time. But everything is forgiven when you taste their food. In bay area, restaurants come and go with change of season, but this is one place which has maintained it's food quality over the years. Here are some tips for new visitors: 1. Go there around the opening time to get best experience. Call them ahead to check the wait time. If they say "No" wait, expect 20 mins wait time. 2. They bring out fresh hot rotis to the table. Keep room for them. 3. Call ahead to check the buffet theme. We really like the Maharashtrian followed by Gujarati. We avoid Rajasthani mainly because we don't like their version of the Daal-Baati. 4. Dishses you must try: Pani Puri (The green pudina water has a nice kick), Special Roti (Thepla, Bhakari, Rotla), Tomato Saar (not soup), Kadhi, Undhiyo. 5. If you have a sweet tooth then you have to try the Shreekhand. Yummy! I like their amrakhand (Shreekhand with mango flavor). Once they even had real good amras (mango pulp) in the buffet. I was surprised to read another reviewer comment about "non-working" credit card machine. I have been there literally dozens of time and I have always used my Credit Card. I was so excited when deedee's opened again. I absolutely love chaat and this place has the best. Their sweet chutney is the real stuff, not the cranberry stuff. And they use real chana no the canned grabanzo beans. You really can't find chaat like this and people who care enough to make it right. Their Gujarati food is also great. Got introduced to this place a couple of days back when a colleague of mine took me there. The food is simple and really homestyle (ofcourse as long as you are from the Indian subcontinent). The bread they serve here is a roti compared to a tandoori naan at other Indian restaurants. Considering the work involved in making rotis, the unlimited rotis offered in the buffett alone justify the price. The chaat was noteworthy I've had their pav bhaji, bhel puri, pani puri and dahi vada and they were all equally good. Their sweets are made in the restaurant iitself and are fresh Just had Shrikhand there and it was unbelievable. The only possible drawback is the location, it's a little out of the way, Ofcourse that's not going to stop me from going there over and over again. This is one of my new favorites. read more

Things that I like: - Food is not greasy - very close to home-made food - they serve hot fresh wheat bread (rotis), which I prefer over thick tandoori rotis (unhealthy) served at most Indian buffets -option of pani puri and chaat with main course - they have different regional style buffets at weekends like Gujarati style, Maharastrain, Rajasthani, etc. We generally call ahead and check the menu that day before going. They insist on paying in cash though it is not mentioned anywhere on the site. Sometimes they do charge extra for using credit card for payment. My experience: - Feel good factor especially if you are staying away from your home and missing garam rotis ("tavyavarun tatat" as I say it in marathi) - I like the menu - shrikhand/kheer puri, pattice, bhel, alu rassa, chole, dal, kadhi and khichadi - Overall the taste of the food was good but nothing exceptional as I was expecting - They dont accept credit card under $15 and the buffet costs $12 so you gotto oay cash if you are going alone. read more

Deedee's is a great place to have an authentic Indian meal at a reasonable price. Having said that, it is no wonder that if you go at peak time it is packed and the parking lot is full. But if you manage to skew your hours you can have a very nice leisurely meal and the food is always fresh, the chapatties are literally served right off the stove and served at your table.
