The food was so good I had to come back again a day or two later. My husband and I went here for lunch, He had.. The BBQ bowl with sausage was delicious! Mac and cheese awesome, sausage was flavorful. Cornbread was light, fresh, and very tasty. The beans had a good flavor. This really worked! It was tasty and filling and the portion generous. Yum! I had.. A small order of catfish, which I found disappointing because the cornmeal breading was too thick and hard. Coleslaw was good but nothing special although it was crisp not mushy and fresh tasting. We shared a piece of pecan pie, which was very good. It tasted richer than most, slightly of molasses. We will return and next time I'm having the bowl too! While Richmond isn't known as one of the country's great BBQ hubs, Deep Run Roadhouse is capable of knocking out tournament-quality brisket visit after visit. I think a BBQ place is best judged by brisket, since pulled pork is a very forgiving thing to smoke. With brisket, though, you have to trim it right and season it well and smoke it correctly. Plenty of moving parts, and very capable of exposing flaws in a BBQ joint's skillset. On the brisket standard, Deep Run gets a very strong passing grade. They also dress it, and their other meats, in different ways - on nachos and in burritos and tucked into sandwiches. The base ingredient is good and they do nothing to screw it up. Overall, the service is good, the food always impresses, and the place does Richmond proud. read more

"The best brisket I've ever had!", "The most vegan food I've ever eaten at a wedding!", "I ate a whole plate of the green beans!" were just a few of the comments our wedding guests made to us the night of our wedding. Our guests kept going back to the buffet table for seconds and thirds! All of our wedding guests, vegan and not vegan, left our wedding full and happy. It isn't the first time I order food from here but I just picked up a to-go order from this place and figured they definitely deserve a good review. So this place has a little bit of everything but I just ordered some ribs and sausage and they were phenomenal. The food was packaged really nicely and they gave me a massive ramekin of extra bbq sauce which was badass. This was also the first time I've ever gone and picked up food myself from there and I like the interior of this place. The receptionist was also really nice and was all smiles. The only thing I got that I really didn't like from here was the slaw. I love coleslaw but I'm pretty picky about it and this place had some nasty dry slaw with giant chunks of cabbage and barely had any slaw base. Other than that though everything was amazing. Met some friends here on a Friday night for dinner. Seems like the typical BBQ place anymore, and they do have good food. They had a few draft beers available, and a few more in bottle. But if you want wine....they only have a couple of the little individual serve bottles. We opted for the Devil's Backbone and Bold Rock cider. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich and I had the cuban with pork. Mine was basically just a "smashed" version of hers....on the same bun. It tasted good, but on the next visit I'll opt for the sandwich. They have a great variety of sides, and we opted for the jalapeno mac n cheese and the potato salad. Both were very good. In the short pump area and was hungry for some bbq and found this place not to far away but definitely off the beaten path. We are welcomed as soon as we open the door with a genuinely happy and smiling face at the cash register asking if we needed any help or more time to look at a menu. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich with coleslaw, onions, pickles and jalapeños on it at the recommendation of the lady behind the counter. Also got potato salad, French fry's, sweet tea, and a slice of key lime pie. And let me tell you WOW it was sooooo good they had 3 sauces on the table, sweet bbq, mild bbq and a Carolina hot and all 3 were tasty. The potato salad was awesome it was fresh made with onions and celery in it, the fries were a nice seasoned waffle fry but the key lime pie...... it was one of the best I've ever had. It was super creamy and had the nice thin gram cracker crust on the bottom and thick on the back. And then the taste ooooh my it was nice and sweet and tart and you could taste the fresh lime. I discovered DRR soon after COVID-19 began to raise its ugly head. It's just down the road from my mother's apartment, and it became a real treat to stop by after a visit to pick up dinner on the way home. I've eaten in since then and have enjoyed every bite. The 4 rating is because, when eating in, I thought the little plastic containers the sides came in made it a little cafeteria-ish, BUT I've never visited a cafeteria that served brisket like theirs, and little plastic containers certainly aren't going to keep me from going back! read more

Stopped in to DRR for lunch. We rang the bell on the counter a few times, but could not get service until we flagged someone down working in the back. Our order was taken by a thin bearded fellow that seemed less than thrilled to be taking our order. The coke machine was out of Diet Coke, which the order taker remedied. Our order came up quickly, but the food (chopped BBQ sandwich and cowboy beans) was average at best and definitely not worth the amount charged. With the number of BBQ restaurants in Richmond, these guys need to step up their game. read more

We came here one Sunday for lunch with my mother-in-law and her sister. My MIL had been raving about how much she loved the food here, and we do like BBQ, so we were hopeful. We arrived on the earlier side, just about noon, and we were the first ones there. The ambience as a result was lacking. Unfortunately the food was unexciting. They forgot some of the side dishes, so we had to ask for those again. The pulled pork and chicken that was ordered was fine. The French fries were good. The Mac and cheese was a total letdown. My husband and I got jalapeño Mac and cheese and were looking forward to something with some zip and flavor, and it had nothing. It was lukewarm, completely under-seasoned and bland, and barely any traces of jalapeños/flavor. We each had to put a pile of salt on it to make it taste of anything, and basically just gave up after a few bites. The next time my MIL requests BBQ, I think we'll steer her elsewhere instead, as this was not enough to entice me back. read more

I'm not sure why this place had 4.5 stars? We ordered 1/4 lb of bbq smoked chicken ($14.), potato salad, mac'n'cheese & corn fritters. Potato salad although very cold, had a decent taste and the reason for the 1 star otherwise would have given this place no stars. Everything else had NO flavor, NO spices as per their description on their menu. The pulled chicken looked like it had been regurgitated. I took 1 bite and instantly became ill from not only the taste but the smell. The young lady who took our order was very polite until I advised her of my opinion of the meat. She offered to give us other meat as replacement yet the other opinions were pork and we don't do pork. Originally we came for their staple meat brisket but they didn't have it. The brisket was perfectly smoked and very tasty. The cornbread wasn't exactly the best in terms of texture, as it was a bit moist and crumbly for my liking. The mac and cheese wasn't spectacular, but did serve as a nice compliment to the BBQ. My main thing though was that it took a surprisingly long amount of time for the food to come out, seeing that I was one of only two or three customers in the restaurant at the time.
