Thank you Defloured for blessing the neighborhood with a delicious gluten-free bakery! Not long ago, I made the horrifying discovery that I would have to minimize my gluten intake. Instead of finding alternatives for my sweet-tooth, I just stopped eating gluten-based sweets. That is, until I discovered Defloured. I stopped into this gem of a bakery to grab some sweets for a girl's night. Many of my friends also are intolerant of gluten, so this seemed like the perfect option for us (bonus points that it's literally 2 minutes from my house). I stepped into a quaint little space and wonderful aromas of baked goods filled my nose. I purchased a few of their bars: the seasonal fruit bar, the s'mores bar, and the bomber (peanut butter and hazelnut and potato chips!). After tasting all of these yummy desserts, I couldn't believe that I thought giving up gluten meant that I had to give up delicious baked goods! Spectacular baked goods! My favorites include the salted caramel bar, the (regular) chocolate brownie, and the ding dong. My favotite was the the ding dong - moist, dense, and melt in your mouth! We also tried the raspberry crumble bar, the cookie sandwich (Salted Peanut Oatmeal Chocolate Chip), and the mint brownie. Worth the wait, and the weight. Exceptional baked goods! Prices are very fair considering the location and cost of ingredients. The facility would benefit from an awning or more window signs. We were walking across the street and would have missed the place if it wasn't for the address. I would also recommend labels for the items in the case. Too many items for the employees to continually explain to us as a line formed behind us. Regardless, the staff was very friendly and very patient as we asked a lot of questions. read more

This is a very amazing Gluten free (other allergies and vegans considered too) bakery. We were in Evanston I'll and had a free morning, we dropped over to the record store across the street (also great) and then loaded up on goodies and bread. The owner was in and was very friendly. Walked into Defoured at 4:30pm on Wednesday needing a gluten free cake for a an older relative's birthday that night. They had a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. I bought it and took it to the party. All I can see is WOW! Gluten free never tasted so good. The cake was moist and the frosting was wonderful--not too sweet like some of the standard frostings. Some in the group said it was the best carrot cake they ever had, and I really couldn't argue with that. There was a slice left over which I took home. It was just as moist and tasty the next day. I highly recommend this bakery even to non-gluten free folks--it's that good. read more

I LOVE this place! With some dietary restrictions, it's tough to eat out and really tough to find good dessert. This place blows a lot of the baked goods I've had in the city out of the water. Their whoopie pies, cakes and cookies are rich and flavorful and certainly not dry, crumbly or off-tasting (if you've had bad gluten free or vegan desserts, you know what I mean!). Most recently I had a carrot cake from them for my birthday and it was THE BEST carrot cake I've ever had in my life. It was that good. I had a carrot cake from famed bakery Sweet Mandy B's a couple of years ago and that one didn't even come close to the one from Defloured. And this one was vegan and gluten free. A bit far away if you're closer to downtown but totally worth the trek up to Andersonville. Not a ton of parking so good idea to walk or take the bus or el to get there--or have someone circle the block while you shop :) Also, the staff there are awesome--super nice and helpful. Went in for vegan options including a cake for a friend's birthday. Looks like you have to pre-order cakes and really anything else you'd like, but I wouldn't know for sure because the service I received was atrocious. My son and I were the first ones to walk in, right when the bakery opened. The woman that sauntered up to the counter could not have been more uninterested in being helpful or friendly. She never greeted us, she muttered when answering questions I asked, she didn't offer any useful information so I had to grasp at straws to learn what I needed to know. We ended up leaving with cake pops, a chocolate ginger cookie, and an oatmeal cookie (all vegan) -- the food was delicious but I don't think I'll go back. I left feeling pretty beat up and really don't feel like going back for more. read more

I was in Chicago for the weekend recently and had a craving for sweets. Now, I LOVE gluten but it doesn't love me back, so when I saw the rave reviews about Defloured I had to check it out. I got a little sample pack-a chocolate chip cookie sandwich with peanut butter frosting, their version of a Ding Dong, a piece of red velvet cake, a couple of brownies and an assortment of cake pops. Now, the only treat I enjoyed fresh was the red velvet cake and it was a little denser than I'm used to (but it's gluten free, that will happen), but the frosting was amazing. Everything else I sampled out when I got home several hours later but even after sitting in the car it was still good. I didn't get to try everything (such as the red velvet cake pop) but everyone was happy with what they tried. Will definitely stop in next time I'm in the Chicago area! read more

It almost suffices just to say that I'm not gluten free or vegan, but I still go to Defloured for a sweet treat! I don't know how they work the magic they do, but everything they produce is flavorful and texturally satisfying (not as crumbly as many gluten-free baked goods tend to be). I have a terrible addiction to their oatmeal-cream pies, which remind me of the Little Debbies ones - but are so much better! You can't go wrong with any of their cookie sandwiches, and the almond-cherry bar is a must-try. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. I was overwhelmed with amazing options and immediate offers for assistance when I entered Defloured! The fun gentleman who said he eats a ding dong a day was not wrong- that snack cake is amazing. The dense, dark chocolate with just enough filling is sooo good. I also love the monster cookie and can't wait to try this little Christmas tree cookie that is outrageously cute. Thank you! Heard about this place from a friend on my birthday. I've been gluten free 8 months and it's hard to find good gluten-free desserts and sweet treats, especially at a reasonable price. I went overboard and bought some cupcakes, a piece of carrot cake, cookie bars (oats/chocolate/caramel, brownie), and an iced oatmeal cookie. Loved the cookie, bars, & carrot cake! I didn't miss gluten at all. They were better than any dessert made with flour. My BF (not gluten free) also loved them! I will definitely be back for more. The employees were friendly & helpful. I came here because I was craving some dessert after brunch and was not disappointed. I love, and am slightly overwhelmed, that there are so many amazing looking vegan options. I ended up trying the vegan oatmeal cookie cream pie, and it was so delicious. The texture of it was so soft--easily breakable into two pieces to share with a friend, but without falling apart. I seriously don't know how they create these magical treats but holy party in my mouth! I have attempted several GF treats at home only to be disappointed at how rock hard they are compared to the gluten version. But the Defloured magicians have created gf treats that taste like heaven. Glad I found them in the summer months when I can walk there, so I feel less guilty about how often I will be visiting them!
