As a Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School graduate, and a retired Product Development Chef for a major U.S. food company, I am amazed of the lack of culinary expertise in regards to the reviews posted on YELP. Del Lusso deserves no more than a one star rating, not the 4.5 star rating as shown. As a product development team member, any food product I was involved with always needed to be consistent in flavor, appearance, and product quality. This is why I am so critical of the pizza at Del Lusso as the cheese, sauce, sausage, and dough had little flavor. The sausage was very disappointing as it did not have any Fennel flavor and the menu described it as Fennel Sausage. The service was very good and the salad was also good, but nothing else about our experience would generate a rating above one star. read more

This establishment is located in an upscale industrial shopping center. I walked in to a modern environment which offers indoor and outdoor seating, which I absolutely love! I was greeted and seated immediately. The one thing that stood out to me immediately was how dingy and dirty the seat cushions on the bench seats were. I was able to move past this once our food came out as it was delicious. The ingredients were fresh and tasty and I could taste the quality of the homemade dough. The salad was perfect as it had the most wonderful mixture of meats and cheeses and dressing. I was greeted by the owner which was very nice and our server was very attentive to my needs. The sausage and mushroom pizza was underwhelming as there was very little sauce and not too much flavor. I do want to come back and try another pizza. BEST GLUTEN FREE PIZZA EVER!!! My family and I are visiting and read reviews to find GF food. I've done this many times before and am never impressed when it comes to pizza. Decided to give it a go at Del Lusso and I'm so glad I did. We love it so much we are returning during our short visit to SD. The owner, Walter, is extremely nice and our server, Hannah, was fabulous and understood our celiac concerns and needs. Do yourself a favor and go to Del Lusso! We are newish to the area and I saw great reviews on Yelp for Del Lusso's and we wanted to get a pizza for the FIFA Final today. I called them and the recording suggested I go on-line to order. I picked a pizza we wanted that said it was 25.00. The ordering process made me go to a Doordash link to order, I had to create an account, I do not use Doordash. I checked the box for pick up. The base price of the pizza was now $3.75 more than their on-line prices, $28.75. I picked up the pizza and told the front desk girl that the online price was $3.75 higher than on their website. She said that is the Doordash add on cost, even though I did not have Doordash deliver the pizza, I was my own doordash. Got the pizza home and what a surprise, it was the 2nd worst pizza we have ever had; soft doughy crust and bitter tasting. Admittedly we are not foodies but come on, we do have normal taste buds and this pizza was horrible. The pizza was the Chicken & Sun Dried Tomatoes. My husband and I were craving good pasta and wanted to try something new in our neighborhood. I found Del Lusso on Yelp and read a lot of good reviews, so we came to try it out and we are very pleased. The owner Walter greeted us and shared story of the restaurant with us. The food arrived quickly, and I enjoyed my Spaghetti Francisco, my mom loved her spaghetti bolognese, my husband said that the meatballs were delicious, but the fettuccine was a little bit hard and chewy. I had a work meeting and called the restaurant because DoorDash wouldn't deliver until an hour after my meeting. The restaurant said no problem we can have it ready when you need it (annoying request on my end). DoorDash canceled right before and I had to go pick up the order (always plan ahead!). Tricia (owner) was on the phone with DoorDash asking them to refund my delivery fee - I didn't even ask her! In fact, I told her I don't really care and she could save time and hang up - but she didn't and got my refund! This act was the definition of doing the right thing with no one looking (or expecting!). Their pizza is fire (I'm from Chicago), their people are happy and helpful - eat at Del Lusso and support local business! First time here with my family for dinner and although the food was good, it was not the right atmosphere for them, and service left a little something to be desired. We had made a reservation and upon arrival were seated promptly at a table inside, near the big roll-up door. Our server was nice and our food arrived quickly. While we were waiting for our food, the one table seated on the patio left and we asked our server if they could close the roll-up door, even partway, since it was cold and windy. He declined and we shivered through the rest of the meal - this didn't make for a warm and comfortable experience and we hurried to eat before our food got cold. Nobody else sat on the patio the whole time we were there... disappointing. The music was also so loud we could barely have a conversation. My family ordered a large Caesar salad (a whopping $34!) to share, and various pizzas. The calzone my mom ordered came out burnt, not just woodfired-pizza-oven burnt, but the whole underside blackened so much that she could taste it. At least a new one was brought out quickly. We shared the Mediterranean salad and chicken dish (cant remember the name but there was mushrooms and prosciutto) Everything was delicious! Since then ive introduced my husband who swears by their Chicken Cesar wrap. Weve had their mushroom and fennel sausage pizza, as well as their antipasta cheese plate. I will continue to move through their menu..but so far, 5 stars isn't enough to express the quality of the food here. Oh, and the service???..The owners (Walter and Trisha) make you feel like family! One of the most disappointing meals I've had, and also the most overpriced. For a restaurant that prides itself on being high end and serving quality Italian food, the experience fell way short. The owner chatted with us quite a bit, and it was clear that he has a lot of integrity in his business. The lower rating reflects a couple of issues. One, we ordered a vegetarian calzone, but they brought us the protein one. After letting them know, they made us a vegetarian, but it was cold inside. Also, we were charged for the protein one. Not a big deal on its own, but then... The second issue was just weird. My husband ordered a second glass of wine. The owner brought him one, but also brought me a second glass of prosecco. I was still drinking my first one and told him I didn't need a second one. He insisted that I should drink with my husband. I figured he was being nice and bringing me a complimentary glass, so I drank it to be polite. Well, he charged us for it, so I guess I misunderstood? Just weird. What an amazing dinner. We met the owner (we're horrible with names...lol). He was a very nice man. We had already made our choices online, so we ordered rather quickly. Our waiter was amazing as well! Great service, attentive and perceptive. We ordered fettuccini Alfredo w chicken and spinach as well as a calzone! Both were outstanding. We enjoyed our dinner outside by the fire. (It was very comfortable and a perfect setting for our getaway). Our dinner choices were amazing! There were bursts of flavor on every bite. Mu husbands Alfredo was perfection and the pastaaaaaaaaaaa! Amazing. The calzone was enveloped in a tender light dough and perfectly cooked. I dipped it in their olive oil basil dip! Sooo good! This is a little gem of a spot. I like their happy hour. Definitely try the Black Plague Gothica or the Gravity Heights - June Gloom for a beer choice. They have great flavor. Service and staff were great. Michael especially. The managers/owners tend to be there on the regular which is a great touch as it makes it feel more home-like in it's vibe.
