I really wanted to like this pizza after all the reviews I read, but it didn't live up to my expectations. The crust was thin, as promised, but like a cracker by the time I got it. Cheese? It was there but there was no string. The flavor is good, but it was like eating a flatbread that had some smidgens of cheese and sauce in it. I will say the salad dressing with the basil flavor is the bomb, but it doesn't make up for my disappointment in the 'za.

TASTE FRIENDLY (4.25 stars) Finally! Something simple, basic, and very affordable in Del Mar. Quick and easy! - PIZZA: thin crust, good - PRICE: very affordable - SERVICE: excellent and very friendly - AMBIANCE: block from the beach, small, but welcoming Pizza and beach vibes just go hand-and-hand. Both simple and fulfilling. They sell by the slice and they sell pies - more selection of pies over the glass casing for the slices. They also sell sandwiches and salads which I am excited to try next return. SPECIALITY OF THE DAY ($5) - cheese, pepperoni, mushroom, and garlic. As I've been told it's a staff favorite among the rotating flavors for speciality of the day. At first it tasted like a normal pepperoni pizza but then the garlic flavor really shines thru. The crust was "New York" style, thin and crispy... for me it had brittle edges! I find that thin crust pizza are just more fun to eat when on the go. HIGHLY RECOMMEND There are very few tables inside and out, however sometimes wiping your own table down may happen as people frequently so quickly that when one leaves another sits not leaving room for cleanup. Pet peeve, greasy marks on tables - be cautions that can be u friendly to clothes. I appreciate this space in the neighborhood and it appears so do many others!! Until the next review....

I'm not a huge pizza fan but this is delicious pizza. Thin crust baked in a fire brick oven. Balance of flavors win every bite. Love the location since you can sit outside and it overlooks the ocean! We ordered our pizza while at the beach and walked to pick it up when it was done... long lines but service seems quick. If you're ever in San Diego in the Del Mar area, check them out. They also have an awesome ice cream spot right next door!

This laid back spot offersis very solid New York-style thin crust pizza. I'm not a huge fan of the style but they do it very well here. The shop is small but makes good use of its space. There is seating inside and a very nice patio outside. You can get whole pies or pizza by the slice. Don't overlook the "specials." The special pizza by the slice during my visit had pepperoni, garlic, and mushrooms and it was outstanding. This was a home run for garlic-lovers. We also tried a cheese slice, pepperoni slice, and a sausage slice. They were all good but paled in comparison to the special one. All of the slices are good-sized and they are just the tiniest bit greasy (and I'm not complaining--I like a little grease on my pizza). This is not a divey pizza joint. In addition to pizza, they also have salads, pastas, sandwiches, and soft serve ice cream. They also offer far more different pizza creations than just the ones offered by the slice. Their canned beer selection was also outstanding. The prices are Del Mar/mere steps to the beach high but the quality and quantity of the food is also high. Parking is a disaster in Del Mar so good luck to you all. Service was very friendly.

4 stars for the speciality pizza, the toppings and flavor were delicious! I can see this place being great if you need something quick but the slices are pretty small compared to other pizza spots. $4-$5 for a slice depending on what you order. I wanted to try the garlic bread but not for $10. But given it's this part of town, I understand the pricing. There are indoor and outdoor seating, outside has a good view of the ocean. The gentleman was nice, overall was good but wouldn't come all the time.

One of my favorite things to do when visiting Del Mar is grabbing a pie from Del Mar Pizza and walking down to the beach or grassy area nearby. The vibe here is family friendly, with an inviting ambiance both inside and out. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming as well. I usually opt for the Pesto Pepperoni, and it never disappoints. The balance of sauce and cheese is spot-on. For me, the crust is what elevates a good pizza to greatness, and Del Mar Pizza absolutely nails it! It's crispy on the outside and perfectly chewy on the inside. Only reason for the 4 star is the prices. Spending $44 on a large pizza seems a little excessive. But despite the cost, I keep coming back. Would I come again? Yes!

We got these pizzas at work and they were delicious! I love the crust of the pizzas. I usually don't eat the crust because it's too thick and chewy, but these were on the thinner side and tasted great. I tried the pepperoni and combo pizza and they were good and tasty. I will come by when I'm in the area next time!

Del Mar Pizza is "da best". Just had delivery last nite for about the 25th time. My whole family loves the pizza here. I grew up on the East Coast (Philly, NY) and prefer the thin crust type of pizza. DMP is the best pizza I've had on the entire West Coast. They advertise themselves as the "KIng of the Crust" and their crusts are excellent. A funny story about DMP. When my wife and I first moved to the SD area we went to dinner at Sbicca, next door to DMP, and sat at the upstairs, outdoor area which is just above DMP. Just after we were seated we smelled this awesome bread being cooked and were commenting on how great the bread at Sbicca would be. You can tell where this is going, it was the crust at DMP that we smelled (though SBicca, BTW, is a great restaurant). I highly recommend Del Mar Pizza if you're a fan of East Coast, thin crust pizza. read more

Ahhhh this pizza was a-freakin-mazing! I didn't plan on going in, but the place looked welcoming & I love pizza so I decided to give it a shot. I was expecting a way bigger slice considering the price is $5! I've been to many other pizza places that have wayyy more variety and vegetarian options by the slice. Super disappointed and wouldn't recommend. Kinda tastes like chucky cheese too. DM Pizza is a long-standing restaurant gem by the beach in Del Mar !! The food is on point and delicious so come with an appetite! The Italian sub is absolutely perfect fresh and hot from the oven with lots of banana peppers. The chopped salad with avocado or the quinoa with butternut squash salad are healthy treats! This place is a must. Stumbled upon this, just happened to be in the mood for pizza and they have gluten free! A bit pricy but worth it. We had the gluten free pesto, plain cheese, ham and pineapple, traditional tomato basil, pepperoni, spicy ones... etc. Whatever you normally like these are tasty with the right amount of everything. This is another NYC style pizza place with a great laid-back atmosphere. It's not my all-time favorite NYC style pizza but the sauce is really tasty and you won't go away disappointed. Big disappointment after 35 years as a customer I have been coming to Del Mar every year for at least 35 years (except 2020 due to Covid) and have always walked up from the beach or park and had great pizza. Before my experience of today I would have given them 5 stars. Today I ordered my usual slice and it was so hard I went back and asked for another slice. When he brought it it was nearly the same. Hard on the bottom and almost no cheese and totally dry. I even tried to scrape the cheese off the pizza and it would not come off. I don't know if this is new management or they are simply going to use Covid as an excuse to cut the ingredients that makes good or great pizza. Sorry but I will not be returning. read more

After a cold couple of hours at the beach, we popped by this place on our way back. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the pizza was! Great crust with toppings that go well together. What we had -- Veggie pizza by the slice - That day's pizza was white sauce with onion, mushroom, olives and jalapenos. -- Kid's pasta - Penne with Marinara -- Garlic bread Too ravenous to take a photo! Pizza was of course great and the rest were good. I agree with the other reviewers on the high price. Our total with tip came to 30$. A large pizza of 8 slices that can be shared by 2-3 people starts at 25$. And additional toppings are around 2$ each. Not the cheapest pizza but hey it is Del Mar! The place itself is small and cozy with both outdoor and indoor seating. Has a casual and laid back atmosphere. Perfect for kids and families. One of the better veggie pizza places in my book. Just been with my mum who is visiting from Scotland. We went up to the patio after watching sunset and seeing some whales by the beach. Firstly the servers were super helpful and gave some great recommendations on what to try. The pizza, wings and "Bob" salad were all delicious. Mum said it was the best pizza she has had in the US...would highly recommend a visit. Great setting, great pizza. read more

Easily the best pizza on the West Coast! I'm from New Jersey where we prided ourselves on our thinner crust style pizza with delicious crispy crust, delicious tomato sauce that tasted like you made it home made with tomatoes from the garden. And the seasoning with oregano really pushed it over the top. Delmar pizza has all that and more plus a great team who are friendly and really know their pizza. Thank you guys for always giving me a little taste of home after a long surf session. Please open another restaurant up by Carlsbad! Great job! read more

THIS PLACE IS HELLA FIRE!! I ordered the chicken marinara sandwich and my wife got the bbq chicken pizza. Chicken sandwich was perfectly made, the bread didn't get too soggy, the chicken was juicy and not dry like most places. The bbq chicken was loaded with toppings, the sauce wasn't too sweet, they put a lot of chicken which I think most places skip on. The shop is near the beach too! Absolutely delicious and perfect Brooklyn pizza and salad. The best you can get in San Diego. Highly recommend the Brooklyn pizza and a large tossed salad. Beautiful views outside and perfect walk down to the beach after or a stop by the other bars and restaurants for a cocktail. Can never go wrong with their thin crust crispy high quality ingredient pizza. Normally you eat two slices but here it's so good you could keep going if you have room. read more

Del Mar never disappoints even during COVID! Everything is still very efficient and the quality of their food is fantastic. This is definitely one of the best pizza shops in SoCal. They have great service and it's very easy to order no matter if it's in person or delivery. My personal favorite is the pesto pizza with chicken; I was never a pesto fan but Del Mar Pizza has changed that. read more

If you are nearby this is a good option in Del Mar. We have only had the pizza and we have enough left over for lunch the next day. It's not the best pizza we've ever had but it's pretty good and if you are staying here, a good option. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it though. read more

The Reuben sandwich I ordered looked fairly ordinary but it was excellent. I loved it and literally wolfed it down. The basic turkey and cheese sandwich was fresh and delicious. The Italian sandwich (which included your usual assortment of Italian meats) was great. All of the breads used and ingredients were very fresh. I saw them scooping fresh avocado onto the sandwiches. That is what I like to see. They are not skimpy with anything here. These sandwiches are not life-changing but they are very well-made and delicious. The generosity with their ingredients is appreciated. Well worth a visit.

I do miss the tuxedo custard mousse cake (or whatever it was called)--it was absolutely delicious. It's also a great place to grab lunch meats, fresh rolls, or bread for easy beach sandwiches. Best of all, the staff is consistently friendly and genuinely enjoys chatting with customers. I've had so many pleasant conversations with people at the seafood, meat, and deli counters over the years. Great food, great service, and always a stop we look forward to on every trip.

We have been fortunate enough to visit exceptional restaurants in several countries, including throughout Europe, as well as renowned five-star restaurants in Mexico. However, the service we received last night deserves special recognition. Our server, Brian O'Malley, executed every stage of service with a level of excellence that is difficult to find today. His attention was impeccable, professional, warm, and perfectly coordinated. He was always present at exactly the right moment without ever being intrusive, carefully attending to every detail and making us feel genuinely well cared for. The quality of the food was extraordinary, but Brian's hospitality elevated the entire experience to another level. At a time when people often speak only about the establishments themselves, I believe it is equally important to recognize the individuals who make it possible for an evening to become an unforgettable memory. Despite their over-the-phone assurance prior to that visit that a particular menu item, Crab Stuffed Tiger Shrimp, was available, it was not. I wrote a Yelp review describing our experience that day and quickly got a very nice message (I assumed from management) expressing their desire to make things right but that response was taken down in less than 24 hours before I had a chance to reply. Fast forward to a couple days ago, August 3rd. A much-cherished friend and I had to be in the Del Mar area on 8/3, so a week before, I called them and asked if the stuffed shrimp shown on their menu was available and, if so, were there any time restrictions. The person I spoke to stated that it was available and could be ordered any time we came in. I was so happy to hear that after not being able to get it at the IB location. When we went to the Del Mar location on 8/3 in the afternoon, I tried to order it and was told by the server, who was not at all friendly, that the kitchen was closed until 5:00pm and that we could only order off the Oyster Bar menu. Note that the online hours don't state that the "kitchen" hours are different than the "Oyster Bar" hours. Perhaps that explains why the woman over the phone stated that the stuffed shrimp can be ordered at any time. If this is true, I respectfully suggest they update the hours shown online. Quite disappointing that once again despite reassurances, I was not able to order my favorite thing on the menu that's always available at the La Mesa and downtown San Diego locations (regardless of the time) AND is also on the IB and Del Mar menus. Our server on 8/3 was not the least bit welcoming but everyone else was nice. He came by quickly enough upon us selecting our table but didn't bother to welcome us even or introduce himself and after 15-20 seconds of uncomfortable silence, he finally just asked if we wanted something. To his credit he did bring us what we ordered (except the shrimp of course!) fast enough but after that walked by our table many times and only stopped by once when we flagged him down and once after that to tell us he was leaving and that Gabby would be taking over....maybe hoping that we would close out right then so as not needing to share his tip with her. We were not done yet, so Gabby did take over and she was terrific; and quite a contrast to the original server whose name I never got. I'm a South County resident so not at all likely to return to the Del Mar Brigantine in the future especially knowing the shrimp might not be available. My final comments...and sorry for being so "wordy" here is that the doors facing the racetrack were wide open which let in the very warm and humid air so the ambiance was not comfortable. The restaurant itself is pleasantly clean and beautifully decorated.

After living in New York City's Manhattan Borough and exploring much of Brooklyn for the past 2 years (2014-2016), I would be willing to say that 100% Del Mar Pizza has the highest quality ingredients, most technically sound handmade pies, and most affordable pricing for product. I have eaten at Yelp's highest rated NYC pizzarias, including Julianas and Grimaldi's, and they do not come close to DMP. The biggest factor being the ingredients used, DMP has a slightly more expensive pie because the cheese and sauce especially are quality. The price is actually cheaper than top NYC locations, For example, I would pay $20.00 for a cheese pizza from Pizza Suprema, ranked 5 on yelp. Just comparing to Del Mar Pizza, I am paying 18 dollars for a cheese pie and the quality is far better. The price is due to the fact that I am eating a real slice in the city, (worth $2.00?)? Besides having a pizza that has been perfected over the years, DMP offers a large menu with the best salads and sandwiches around. If anyone remember solunto's subs from little italy, the bread is very similar and they seem to use all boars head meats. To be honest, there is not a place in the entire country as nice as DMP where you can go grab an amazing pizza that has truly fresh ingredients ( check-out how nice the sausage is), have a craft beer on tap, wine or Mexican soda, eat a fresh green salad, and sit out on their wood deck to watch the sunset in del mar, san diego ( probably good weather). I guarantee you will search a lifetime for that type of set-up/taste/affordability and you will not find. I will continue to search NYC to find a better comparison but for now, I cannot wait to visit family so that I can get a slice and brew. read more

Amazing place! From the minute we arrived, we were greeted so friendly and immediately were drawn to the amazing photos on the wall of local surf breaks. In fact, the attention to detail in the finishings, patio, and vibe of this place is perfect for southern cal. I especially loved the potted succulents on the patio! (I do love gardening, and someone else does at DMP). I had Sculpin IPA on tap, the most amazing italian sub I've ever had, and finished it with homemade soft-serve ice-cream. My kids said it was the best ice cream they have ever had. All the ingredients on my sandwich were sliced really thin, including the tomatoes, onions, and meats. . . I want one right now! I stopped by Del Mar Pizza for a quick bite and grabbed a slice of their sausage pizza - and I was pleasantly surprised! I see why they are always busy. The thin crust was just right: super crispy around the edges but with a nice chewiness in the center. They didn't skimp on the sausage either, which was packed with flavor and balanced the slice perfectly. At $5, it's a solid deal for the quality. Some of the best pizza is San Diego! Love the thin crispy crust and they have a good variety of toppings (bacon + jalapeños). The staff is friendly and on top of the service.
