My first time going to this nail salon, I was able to walk in and immediately get seen at 4:49pm. I had on previous gel polish that took my technician nearly an hour to get off (way too long) and I had asked for a simple french tip manicure. My nail tech (while so very sweet) gave up after I had asked for a much thicker french nail compared to the tiny line painted across my nail. She had to ask another tech who was in the middle of providing service to another customer, to come over and paint all 10 of my nails. I felt very bad for the other costumer who had to sit there while the new technician frantically painted my nails. I don't think she did a bad job, but I think it was quite rushed and after leaving I noticed way too many mistakes on my nails (jagged sides, not fully painted around the whole nail, uneven tips) I usually paid around 40-50$ for a full gel french tip set at my previous salon in loudoun, but this place charged me a whopping 66 dollars - and that was after the 10 dollars off for my first time there. So after walking in the doors at 4:49 for a simple gel manicure, I left at 6:30pm. I will not be returning, and I'd recommend looking elsewhere to get your nails done if you want them to be symmetrical. read more

Went there first time today for dipping powder manicure. It's clean. Staff are nice. Price is affordable. It's also my first time to try dipping powder and I picked the glittering colors. Soon I realize it might not look good on my natural short nails cuz the glitters build up a small thick layer on my nails even for only two dips. But the staff tried her best to make it looks nice. The result is actually cute. However, they are using electric cuticle file and when she's trimming my cuticle it hurts a bit and I had small bleeds. She said my skin is too dry. It is true I should use hand cream more I have hangnail also given the fact she's trying so hard I feel it's fine. She ended up clean the edges really well. But I think maybe they can apply some cuticle remover to soft it up before filling. read more

As out-of-towners, we simply wanted a good, clean and reputable place to get our nails done and this delivered on that for sure -- prior reviews seemed good and that ultimately brought us in. They did SNS change for my older teen daughter and took great care to make sure she was happy with color and nail shape. They did fresh gel on mine and it was tricky color so they did 1 nail at a time (alternating hands) and it was so efficient and turned out perfect! She wouldn't cut my nails down to the length I wanted them the second time and they were way too long. I came back today after making an appointment, only to be told my appointment was cancelled because they didn't have enough people. Another lady came in right after me with the same appointment time, and they took her in to service her. Very disappointed and they just lost a loyal customer. I just moved to the area and have been looking for my new nail place to call home. I've only been here once but so far so good. Lein did a great job on my SNS set and was very sw. Honestly very disappointed. I specifically asked for a regular manicure and given a gel one instead. I don't get my nails done often, so I didn't know that was happening but I was certainly surprised when my $16 manicure ended up being $37. I showed them where I had written down a regular manicure on the sign in sheet. They still forced me to pay for the $37 manicure and it's not the type that I had wanted. I've been going here on and off for a couple of years now. I'm a fan because the ladies here are nice and welcoming. The salon is clean and they have never turned me away for service even if I try to sneak in a little too close to closing time. I used to come here more often for spa pedicures but since most of the nail techs that I liked have left, I'm currently searching for my next favorite tech both here and at other nail places in the area. This is my regular spot to get my eyebrows waxed. I've tried so many different places and Del Ray Nails is the place that I frequent the most. Jen gets me...she understands my eyebrows and how picky I am about them. Maybe it's because I'm not afraid to be "that girl" and tell her exactly how I want them done and how I've chartered my course for Cara Delevingne-esque brows. I've been coming to this Nail shop for a few years and they are wonderful. Six months ago I moved about 20 minutes away and tried the salons around there but they didn't compare. I love that they put a plastic bag over the basin - no germs from others. And they ha e a menu to choose from. I prefer the Deluxe pedicure which includes sugar scrub, cooking mask, callous treatment, lotion massage and paraffin. I feel like I've been to the spa. All the ladies are wonderful. I've tried a few places in the area for dip nails (SNS) and especially love french manicure dip nails. After each appointment, my nails would last no more than two weeks and would cost at least $50 or more. .... However, a full month ago, I met Ms. Kim and she gave me the most detailed, long lasting, and beautiful french manicure dip of all time. Same cost, but has lasted 4 solid weeks without sustaining any damage. I've been gardening since then, fishing, and generally have done nothing to take care of my nails. I've been seeing Ms. Kim here for SNS manicures since the spring and have been very happy with my experiences! At Del Ray Nails & Spa, they really take the time to get to know their customers, what they like, and how to do each individual's nails well instead of just doing the same thing for everyone. The prices are on par with other nail salons in the area. The staff is fastidious and knowledgable. Their attention to detail is impeccable and I always leave feeling great. I would strongly recommend either making an appointment or calling ahead, especially if you are planning on going during peak hours (weekday afternoons/evenings or weekends) because they do get really busy and they will not rush appointments or clients like other nail salons do. read more

I called Del Ray Spa yesterday in a panic because I needed a full set of gel nails, had no appointment and had to get in STAT. The challenge was that I bite my nails (ridiculous....weirdo...) and also pull on the cuticles (freak) and the bed of my nails was already thin, and I didn't want any drills used directly on the bed of my nails. Kelly (owner) answered the phone and she said "come on in." When I arrived, Kelly looked at the sad state of my nails, and got to work. she used no drills on my nail bed, and within a few minutes all the tips were in place. She then handed me off to Amy, who does the pink/white gel application, since Kelly doesn't do it. Amy was awesome. She checked with me to make sure the tips were the length I wanted. When she made the tips, she checked with me to make sure they were the width I like, and when she filed them, she asked me to look at them and "tell me which one you don't like and I'll fix it." She herself wasn't happy with the way one of the nails turned out and re-did it. "I want you to walk out of here with beautiful nails." And that, my friends, I did. This was, hand down (ha! I made a pun!), THE best set of gel nails I've ever had done. To boot, the place is spotlessly clean, the staff friendly, the location is perfect (for me), and the prices are right about where they should be. The stations for nails have a little fan built into the top of the table and the UV lights to dry your nails are right there as well--you don't want to hobble off to another area carrying all your stuff to dry your nails. They have a huge selection of OPI nail colors and they did a shellac on my (KILLAH!) nails that left my nails shiny in addition to goh-jass. I've officially dumped my old nail salon. Thank goodness for Del Ray Nails & Spa!!! For the longest time Elegant Nails down the street was the only nail place in Del Ray. You can read my review of Elegant Nails to see what a disappointment it is to me in so many ways. Then Sugar Scrub Nail Spa opened up, and it was a vast improvement....except for a couple of things. Sugar Scrub is more expensive--a mani/pedi costs around $50 in contrast to the more affordable nail salons in Alexandria. Also, they typically perform the mani and pedi at the same time, making for a more rushed and less relaxing salon experience. I like to read a magazine while I get a pedi, and I hate having to contort my arms in order to accommodate the nail technician sitting on one side. That may just be a pet peeve of mine, however. Now, on to Del Ray Nails! The salon is squeaky clean with a nice, relaxing environment and decor. Everything is new, comfortable, and in working order. The technicians are all friendly and competent. I've never been rushed through and left with a bad nail job at the end---as I have at Elegant Nails. Customer service seems to be an important focus for the owner. Furthermore, the prices are totally reasonable; I think a regular mani/pedi costs around $38. They also do a great gel manicure, if you're interested. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Del Ray Nails & Spa as your new local nail place. I've been going there every two weeks for several months and have never been disappointed. read more

Walked in on a Saturday afternoon for a regular mani/pedi. I was one of 3 people in the place, so they took me immediately. At first they told me I could get a spa mani/pedi for $50, but then when I sat down and she was taking off my nail polish she said that was $60, and for $50 I could get a spa pedi and regular mani or regular pedi and spa mani... I chose the spa pedi with reg mani. Although looking back I should've walked out as soon as I realize I had been duped. When she took off my nail polish, she didn't take it all the way off--as in, she left small bits of color on. The thing is, the lady was very nice. She actually wanted to talk to me--not about getting a bikini wax or 'you got boyfrien?' chatter. But it was like restaurants and other normal things you would talk about with an acquaintance. She was nice and I can't remember her name. I'll come back here if the rest of the nail places on Mt. Vernon totally suck. read more

I have used this salon multiple times, for manicures pedicures and waxing. They have always been wonderful, and I leave very very pleased with their work. I also recommend this salon to my friends. However, this morning, I had a terrible manicure. The shop was not busy, there was one other customer and myself, and plenty of available ladies. My technician, Tlui Tlui gave me the worst manicure I have ever had. She didn't use cuticle cream before putting my hands in water, haphazardly pushed back my cuticles, filed my nails halfway, sporadically clipped my cuticles. Quickly painted my nails. ( I asked for a french gel manicure). She did stop and take time doing the detail work of the polish. then put lotion on one hand and not the other. It was unreal, and it all happened so fast I didn't know what to do. I don't know why I didn't stop her early on and just leave. The other ladies were watching her, and I could tell they noticed her poor work. She also over charged me. I was so embarrassed that I put up with that kind of treatment I just paid and left. After all of this I was shocked to see that my nails turned out pretty good. I was so confused, but the only thing i had to do when I got home was a little bit of filing. I went to Del Ray Nails to have a full set from another spa removed. They took me immediately, but I was passed off twice and moved once before finally being attended to, although there were only 2 other customers when I arrived. The process they used to remove my acrylic nails was quick and painless - I have to admit, I was impressed. Then came the manicure. It was the basic manicure that comes standard with full set removal, so I wasn't expecting anything particularly special (which is lucky, since it wasn't). However, after spending a fair amount of time filing my natural nails, the tech instructed me to go wash my hands so he could being the polish. When I looked at my nails, no two were the same length! Although this is typical upon removing acrylic nails, I assumed that correcting this was the point of the follow-up manicure. Apparently not - when I mentioned it to the tech, he looked at me startled, and said "You want them even?" as if I had suggested a radical approach to nail grooming. He did even them out, and they looked nice. Until the paint began to chip two days later, and my nails starting breaking one after another before the week was out. This post is for the salon which is nice and clean always! My nail technician is Mrs Lein.. we've been"together" for about 6 years. The only other person I let do my nails is Mrs TT in her absence. My nails are real, but due to my daily schedule and activities I like acrylic(over lay), sometimes gel on my nails to maintain neatness and no cracking. Mrs. Lein takes her time and keeps her appointments. Because I grow my natural nail I only use OPI products. She is very knowledgeable in her craft and will not never go beyond what you ask for respectfully. She will however take the time to discuss with you why you should or shouldn't. Terrible experience. When I showed up for my 1 PM appointment, I was greeted by the owner and I requested a Spa Mani/Pedi, listed at $50 on their pricing brochure. I also had a first-time client 20% off coupon. He said sure, and had me pick a color and wait until someone could help me. I found the color selection pretty minimal and certainly not new colors. The tech who performed my services did not introduce herself, so I cannot provide her name. She was distracted at best, having brought her son into the salon that day, she kept yelling at him to stay in the back, etc. She was SO rough with me, and literally used a cheese grater on my calluses! The salt scrub was so rough and made it hard to relax. The place was loud and visibly dirty. The spa manicure was a little bit nicer, but I was told to dip my hands in paraffin wax, a little old school if you ask me, and there was visible hair and particles in the bottom of it. I tried to give the place the benefit of the doubt because my nails came out looking really great, and the lady apologized for her child being a distraction, but what really topped things off was when I went to pay, she overcharged me. I pulled out the pricing list and showed her, that I asked for the spa mani/pedi and that it was $50. Her english isnt good so she didnt know what to say to me. She went to ask another tech and came back and said it was $60, and with the discount $48. She pointed to something on the menu that was an organic mani/pedi, I ASSURE you I did not receive any organic products on my skin or nails. I let her know that the owner asked me what I wanted and I told him, etc, she remarked that he doesn't work in there daily and doesn't know. Needless to say I WILL NOT be going back, and I hope this deters others from wasting their time and money. read more

This review is a bit overdue as I got a pedicure and Shellac manicure here about 2 months ago before Thanksgiving. I did call ahead to make an appointment and I am glad I did because the place was very busy. I ended up waiting approximately 15 min before they brought me back to soak my feet. The same nail tech did both my pedicure and Shellac. Pedicure: - the water could have been hotter, and when I told the tech that she could make it warmer, I think she was more worried about burning me than making sure I got a good soak. - she was very thorough in trimming my cuticles but when she cut my nails, she definitely did not cut straight across on my big toenail, and I think I ended up getting an ingrown toenail from it. (The only reason I did not take off the polish to treat my toe was because I loved the color and the application of the polish was very good.) - the foot and leg massage was very relaxing Shellac manicure: - the lighting in the nail polish display area did not make choosing a color easy. I think it definitely plays tricks on your eyes. I wish they had swatches available to make choosing a color (that you're going to commit to for 2 weeks!) easier. - the same nail was equally thorough with my cuticles, which was great - after the first coat of the (awful) color I chose thanks to deceptive lighting, she went back and applied a darker color to help layer and camouflage my poor choice. The color she chose was better, but still wasn't what I was looking for. No worries, that was partially my own fault. - My biggest complaint with this Shellac manicure is that the area near my cuticles started to chip and peel after 3 days! None of my Shellac manicures before or after this experience have started to peel after 3 days. After that, I went back to Jolie Petite (aka Elegant Nails) down the street for my manicures. While Jolie Petite isn't perfect either, my Shellac manicures have lasted 2 weeks each time and I don't leave with an ingrown toenail. read more

Writing this for my fiancee. Do not recommend. $40 for a white tip gel manicure (before tip). Quick in and out but not the place to get pampered. Not much attention to detail. Manicure comes out looking OK, but not the best I've had. Also, the staff does not appear to care about actually cleaning supplies. For example, a towel which was used for me, was already at my table when I sat, and it was not replaced for the next person. The bowl to soak my fingers in was not washed, it was merely rinsed with water for less than 5 seconds. After I had rinsed my hands in the bowl, the lady rinsed it again and placed it in the "clean" pile from where they had gotten the bowl for me in the first place. Will not be returning. And I'm still fixing/cleaning up my nails. Do not recommend. read more
