We enjoyed a special empanada of the night: filet mignon. We also ordered the burrata trio and it was very tasty. When visiting SSI, I definitely did not anticipate dining at an Argentinian Italian restaurant. However, after passing Del Sur a few times over the course of a few days, we were intrigued, especially because two of my travel mates just so happen to be both Argentinian and Italian. We made a reservation for an early evening dinner and were seated promptly upon our arrival. There's ample parking onsite or nearby but it can get pretty hectic. We started off by ordering a bottle of wine for the table: Piattelli (an Argentinian Malbec) which was so delicious! We also ordered a few appetizers: beef empanada, lamb empanada, and provoleta. I have no pictures of them because we scarfed them down so quickly. I highly recommend the lamb empanada and provoleta as both were seasoned and prepared to perfection! For my entree, I ordered the skirt steak with chimichurri sauce (among the best I have ever had) and a side of roasted vegetables. This entire meal definitely paired beautifully with our wine. As a notorious sweet tooth, I could not leave without dessert. We ordered the key lime pie, vanilla creme brûlée, and, of course, the Dulce de Leche Cheesecake. You honestly cannot go wrong with dessert here. I am honestly not a big fan of citrus-based desserts and the key lime pie was very impressive! The cheesecake was, by far, my favorite. Went here based on the Yelp reviews. I tell you this place is as good as the five star reviews it has earned. We had a 7:30 reservation for four. We got there about 10 minutes early and was promptly seated. The restaurant was almost full. Our server got our drink order right after we sat down. She was great throughout the meal. We started with a couple appetizers, the beef empanada and the Argentinian sausage. The empanada was delicious with a pico de gallo. The sausage had a fantastic chimichurri sauce. We ordered the shredded beef rib with risotto, pork shank, butternut squash ravioli, and bolognese pasta. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Wine is priced very reasonably by the bottle. We ended the meal with the tiramisu and a piece of double chocolate cake. A great last night on the island dinner experience. read more

You have got to order the Scallops wrapped in bacon as an appetizer, they are sooo good! We set at the bar because it is a good idea to make reservations. The bartender was very kind and excellant at suggesting cocktails. Try their version of a lemoncello you won't be disappointed! The atomsphere is casual to a resort dress, but shorts and a nice shirt for the guys and a nice Summer dress for the ladies. Incredibly painfully slow service. Waited 15 minutes for a greet. We had a table of 8, and they just kept refilling our bread baskets. That was the best of the service we got. Wine were generous pours in red wine glasses, the wine was a bit warm. After we ordered it took nearly an hour to get our appetizers. The empanadas were incredible! Just wish it hadn't taken so long to get them. I had the shrimp pasta, which was bland. Huge portion of course, the shrimp were overcooked and the sauce was comparable to canned sauce at the grocery. All in all it was a 2.5- 3 hour meal which felt entirely too long. I'm not sure if they're understaffed or what the issue was, but it really affected our experience. read more

Much like Argentina this restaurant doesn't know what it wants to be either, and it's too proud to pick something. Is it Italian? South American? Or is it a tourist trap disguised as a fine eatery? The atmosphere was dull and lacked what most might find in a 5 star rated Italian restaurant. For starters, above the wine case they had tacky graphic decor that read, "Life is short eat dessert first." And "It's Wine O'clock." To put the tacky cherry on top they had a flat screen TV with The Three Stooges playing. The food looked finer than it tasted. I've had trout that bore more flavor that this salmon. Don't get me wrong if you're here for the drinks this restaurant has plenty of "fine" wine, and you'll probably need to crack open a $116 bottle of it and be a little drunk before any of the food begins to taste like it ought to. If you've made it this far I commend you. I usually don't get too serious in my reviews but what actually bothered me most with Del Sur was that the waiter never acknowledged my spouse. He only looked at me when providing the special or when taking our order. He never offered my spouse more to drink, or asked how the food was tasting; only me. We had an absolutely amazing dinner. We have tried to get in here but our schedule would not let us. We were so excited to finally to stop in for dinner. We were so delirious in our meal choices. The waiter Alex was so helpful with his suggestions on what to order he did an awesome job. The lamb and diced beef Empanadas were homemade, fresh and delicious. We also tried the grilled Argentinian sausage also homemade with Chimichurri sauce it was delicious. I had the Pancetta wrapped scallops with butternut squash risotto. My husband had the Ribeye and the linguine with bolognese sauce. He said the meat was the perfect temperature and seasoned to perfection and had extra Merlot salt on the side dor an added burst of flavor. The pasta was cooked well and the tomato based sauce great and he loved that it had a bit of wine for flavor. We shared the dulce de Leche cheesecake for dessert. It was so soft and creamy and not overly sweet it was the perfect balance. We can't wait to go back to eat here. I wish our schedule would have let us go sooner. The pesto grilled cheese had a creamy tomato side soup for dipping and not only was it mouthwatering perfectly grilled but plated like artwork. Their avocado creamy chicken salad was gourmet too! One of our most fave meals on vacation! What called our name here was a fusion of Italian and Venezuelan food. Hernan, the owner and his welcoming staff made sure we were thoroughly welcomed in their super bustling restaurant. It is a super great touch when the owner manager talks to you before you order and advises you on the offerings. If they do come around, it is usually at the end. That's a great first impression. We ordered a chimmichurri steak, braised short rib with polenta, and I can't forget the best Empanada I have ever had. Empanadas in Florida are common, but the flavor in this one was not! The flavor was phenomenal, the ambiance and service were great. We were running a little (way) late for our reservation and they held our table and served us like nothing even happened. I just had the best shrimp of my life. I got the Gaucho Mixed Grill & the shrimp was. It was soft & the flavor and texture were on point. I've had some great shrimp but this was undoubtedly the best of my life. However, the chicken & steak of the Gaucho Mixed Grill didn't live up to the standard set by the shrimp. The chicken was cooked well & it was very juicy. The steak, however was kinda so-so. It wasn't very tender or seared very much. I ordered it medium-rare and that's how it came, but it was a little tough‍. As an appetizer, I had the beef & chicken empanadas (there's one of each) and they were very good as well. The chicken was much better than the beef because the beef was ground not shredded, like I'd hoped. Next time I'll try the lamb because the beef empanada wasn't great. We got the caramel cheesecake & key lime pie for dessert and they were both great. The key lime pie had a lot of bite, and great flavor. The cheesecake was incredible. It was simultaneously one of the best cheesecakes I've had, and like drinking straight up caramel (or at least a really strong caramel latte). We loved them both but the cheesecake definitely took the... cake. All in all it was a great dinner, the chicken empanada and the shrimp were definitely the best parts. We own a restaurant in Virginia Highland in Atlanta. We stopped here before going to see the Tams concert at the Lighthouse. All the older established restaurants on Mallery Street were full, but we were able to snag the last sidewalk table at the new Del Sur. Kyle the GM recommended the skirt steak, short ribs, and the osso buco. I normally would have gotten the skirt steak but we had steak at Nakato in Atlanta earlier in the week, so I opted for the Argentine sausage app and osso buco and my wife ordered the short ribs. A couple of glasses of Malbec later and an excellent dinner, we knew we had another memorable dining experience and that they had earned a 5 star recommendation. read more

The food is delicious, just the right temperature, fresh and so luxurious in times of home cooking. This is the Shelter-in-Place time when restaurants are closed to inside dining. Tasty place with good portions. A little on the pricey side, but well worth it for a nicer date spot. Pros: I ordered the Short Rib Risotto. Very good option. I was plenty full after ordering just this. The Lamb Empanada was tasty. The dough in particular was high quality and authentic. Bread brought out before the meal was great. We ended up choosing this place because it had less of a wait than nearby restaurants. Room for improvement: A friend ordered the Grilled Provoleta and it was pretty good, except the brussel sprouts in particular were a bit undercooked and flavorless. We came her for our anniversary because it's somewhere we've wanted to dine for a while. While the food was great, the service was absolutely a let down. There were probably only 7 tables of people in the restaurant and about 7 servers (including the owner, Alberto), but it seemed like no one wanted to wait on us. We were sat in a section with 2 other tables who seemed to have great service. After sitting for about 15 minutes with no wait staff coming up to us, the waitress (Chris Anne) who was serving the 2 other tables on each side of us in our section came up and half heartedly told us she'd be back with some water. At that point we had already decided for quite some time that we were ready to put in a bottle of wine and an appetizer, but she left abruptly after giving us the water/did not give us a chance to even attempt to order. We waited about another 10 minutes before the bartender came up to our table and let us know he'd be serving us. It was confusing why the waitress for our section wouldn't wait on us, but since she seemed a bit rude anyway, we were okay with this. We put in our appetizer and drinks and then waited another 20 before the bartender came around to take our entree order. We had enough time to get our appetizer and finish all of it before he came back to take our main orders. So at this point, we've been at the restaurant for at least 40 minutes and were just now putting in our food. The owner, Alberto, also was coming up to every table to check in, but repeatedly skipped us. Once our food came, no one came to check in to make sure we were good until we were basically done eating. I'd understand this level of service maybe if the restaurant was super busy, but at this point we were one of about 3 tables in the entire place. All of the staff was gathered around the counter, talking to each other, talking on the phone and rolling silverware (this is 2 hours before the restaurant closed). The bartender who waited on us was very sweet when he was around, just only came up to our table a couple of times. We waited probably about 15 minutes just to pay at the end when another staff member eventually saw us with our check book standing straight up looking at the wait staff waiting for someone to come over. The best service we received all night was the hostess and we made sure to tell her this on our way out. For just the 2 of us to dine it took a total of about an hour and 40 minutes. I'm not sure what it was that kept the entire wait staff from wanting to serve us, but it was highly frustrating and disappointing, especially on an important night like our anniversary. After the horrible service we left feeling very unimpressed by both the owner who ignored us as well as the staff on what should have been a very special night. read more

When we approached the restaurant we noticed all the staff seemed really young. What an amazing surprise to see such young people being so polite! Everyone from the hostess, busser, our server Kyle and kitchen staff was fantastic, and they all wore masks the entire time, even outdoors and inside a hot kitchen which was clearly visible from our table. We had lamb and beef empanadas as appetizers which were great but the sauce that came with them was delicious! Our entrees were skirt steak, short rib over risotto and a cheese pizza for our daughter, all very tasty. We also enjoyed a delicious Malbec. Great job everyone! read more

we came here on Memorial Day. It was a quiet time of day for the restaurant as it was 5pm. We waited for a little while to get our drinks and order taken. Our server was friendly and humorous. My skirt steak came. it was nicely charred on the outisde, I had wanted medium rare but this was little more cooked than I preferred but to my surprise the steak was very tender. As I ate more of the steak the thicker part was slightly more pink. But overall I loved it despite it being more cooked than I wanted. Accompanying the steak was arugula salad, Love the cheese shavings on it. The steak came with some coarse sea salt and a little dish of some pickled tangy chopped up veg. Initially I tried the steak with the salt. then with the pickled veg. But the steak was so good I didn't need any of those 2. I will come back again if we visit St Simon's but will try the Ribeye next. My lemon-spiked Sprite was yummy. Will be back. read more

Exceptional dining, one of the best restaurants on St. Simons Island. Not only is the food top quality and creative, so was the service. Everyone is very attentive as soon as you walk it. The Caesar salad was authentic and the empanadas were fantastic. My wife had the pear and Gorgonzola raviolis, which were incredible. I had the Pappardelle Bolognese, which was most enjoyable. Even the house red wine was very good.
