Nothing against the employees or restaurant but the company needs to get better comms so the employees can hear in the drive thru to make sure the order is right, as well as ask "is cilantro good to be on it" because I have that gene (lots of other people do to) where it makes it taste like soap and I had to waste a 9$ burrito and I didn't know there was gonna be any on it. Please at least confirm if cilantro is good to be on it. Otherwise I do enjoy the restaurant. read more

It has been a while since I made the mistake of getting a snack here, but I passed it while driving down Telegraph Rd. today and when I saw the sign again. I thought I should relate my experience here. First of all, this one bad experience, which is my only experience at this Del Taco location, might have been an aberration. I used to go to Del Taco when on business trips in California and I usually thought they were OK, and I especially liked grabbing a quick breakfast there before starting a long business day. But my one visit to the Dearborn Heights location was revolting. I had ordered a combo meal that contained a Spicy Chicken Burrito and a Soft Chicken Taco with Fries and a drink. The Taco was served on an uncooked (read white and raw) taco shell and the chicken was tough and stringy and the whole thing tasted like kitchen scraps. The Burrito mostly consisted of refried beans and those beans were loaded with grease. The so-called "Spicy" chicken, what there was of it, was not at all spicy and I used about four pouches of their hottest sauce to counteract the pasty and greasy refritos. It was supposed to have guacamole, but if it did, I missed it. The fries were fine and the drink was OK too. I know people like this place and I had liked Del Taco when I used to go there in both Northern and Southern California, but the stuff they passed off as edible food was more like dog food. I certainly won't go back. read more

Dab D. apparently really knows bird shit, because he mentions it 8 out of his 11 other reviews. Obvs a troll, or, maybe his tongue is really just primed for bird shit. Who knows. People who prefer Taco Bell over Del Taco, in my opinion, are people who are usually quite happy licking a salt wheel. There is more fresh prep that Del Taco does in an hour than Taco Bell does all day. I prefer absolutely everything on this menu over taco bell, especially the chicken. It's grilled fresh in house and tastes amazing. You really can't get any fresher than that. The use real cheddar cheese that actually melts rather than the thick cheese shreds used by their competitor, and while the nacho cheese isn't really cheese at either place, Del has the courtesy to flavor it with vegetables rather than have it look and taste like runny salt, or in Dabs case, yellow bird shit. Fast food is fast food, but I think the Del does fast Mexican far better justice than it's closest competitor. Go with chicken anything and you'll be pleased. read more

When I read about people complaining that Del Taco or even Taco Bell isnt "authentic Mexican" I always get a laugh. That complaint is like going to any standard Chinese restaurant in America and griping about how that isnt "authentic Chinese food". It isn't supposed to be, it's supposed to be quick serve food that fills your stomach at a fair price. So the only question is did you like the food. Not as compared to good ol Mexican like abuletta(sp) made but was what you just ate tasty enough? That said the food I had at Del Taco was tasty and filled my hunger spot and was open for whatever I wanted at 7am at a fair price. No more/no less. read more

Much better than Taco Bell, and much cheaper for what we get. We normally get the hard tacos($0.49), the burritos(also only $0.49), or the nachos and cheese. It's nice that they have other options for when we all can't agree on what we want for dinner. The fries are crinkle cut, and not bad. I have never gotten a burger, but my son seems to like them. The churro's are delicious, and blow taco bell's cinnamon crisps out of the water. Once again, much better than taco bell for cheap, somewhat mexican fast food. read more

Forgive me Father for I have sinned. One of the music directors I work with for major church holidays took a new position in Garden City so now for several days during the Christmas and Easter season I drive down Ford Road to get to that handy Southfield Freeway. Every time I drive past Del Taco I think gluttonous thoughts. It's delicious (for what it is) and a rarer treat than the more prevalent Taco Bell; somehow being able to get a burrito after spending multiple hours of church makes the commute home better. I have been through the drive thru and inside the restaurant and can report excellent service regardless of how my order was placed. I can attest that they close early on Christmas Eve. . . I suppose I can't blame them but after Midnight Mass nothing sounds better than some cheap Tex-Mex and a Mr. Pibb. Alas. I would highly recommend the 1/2 Bean Burrito with the verde salsa (I think it's more of a sauce). It's simple but always tastes fresh consisting of beans, cheese and sauce (either red or green). I also enjoy their Spicy Jack Quesadilla but would refrain if consuming while driving. . . it can be messy. Fries are crinkle cut. I think this locations food is basically like the other area Del Taco's which means that they have decent standards if regardless of the location the food maintains a certain level of tastosterone. Should tastosterone be a word? I am almost thinking yes. I will also say that their sauces are a little lacking; I would rather put ketchup on most of my food than their hot sauce. Then again, while driving French Fries are just easier naked--the fries not the driver. When I went into this restaurant I was also happy to flip through a photo album of the good workers of Del Taco volunteering at Christmas with kids or so it appeared. . . Hailing from Socal, I literally pulled off the road and did a U-turn at 330am upon hearing Del Taco had opened in Michigan. In California if someone suggests going to Taco Bell you spit at them. This place stinks.... Their food is rubbery. Ingredients arent even as fresh as Taco Bell which isnt saying much. They have fries on their menu? I've been to Del Taco many times as I've passed by and been in the mood for good take out Mexican fast food. It's always been as good or better than their local competitor TB. I like their tacos, including fish tacos and most burritos and the sauce the give you to supplement your food. On my most recent visit we went through the drive through and they didn't get the order quite right, but my biggest complaint was the chicken burrito special they offered which I didn't really care for. The burrito had too many different tastes going on and not much chicken. It's really the first item I didn't like there. I'm going to continue to visit as we happen by and we will see how it goes. But if you come to this location for advertised offers--and I mean the offers they advertise directly on their windows (so you know they're a participating location), know you'll still be charged regular price. We ordered the Del Tacos on a Tuesday for the Taco Night price we saw on three of their signs while going thru the drive thru and STILL got charged the regular price. We didn't realize til we got home and saw receipt. We will not visit this location again. read more

The best thing about this place is the Freshness!! The Pico de Gallo had fresh red tomatoes, onions, lime and not too much cilantro in it. The chips are made there, and come out warm, which for me is the best way of eating them. The salsa that went with the chips was delicious and not spicy at all. I hate it when I have spicy salsa and I can't feel my tongue. I ordered the fish taco platos, The fish was a small fish filet, deep fried with crispy cabbage and a white sauce pour over it. For me this was tasty. The beans that came with it, I think was the best part of the platter!! It had a nice red sauce poured over it and grated cheese on top. Yes they grate their own cheese too! Like I said everything is fresh and not frozenor bagged from somewhere else. I'm not a big rice eater so I wasn't impressed with the rice, though it had a distinctive taste with the lime in it, as well as some freshly chopped tomatoes. The only thing I would recommend to the business is, if you can, warm up your tortillas on a grill before making the tacos. It will make the taco taste better. The only draw back for me was the dessert. I had the Churro, and for me it was too sweet! It was coated with sugar and cinnamon, and didn't let me taste the churro itself. I didn't eat it all and had to throw half away. If they could just sprinkle the sugar on and not roll the sugar into it it would be better. And lastly, this is a suggestion for the whole corporation running the chain...you might want to think about recycling. I saw so many platos platter (plastic) being thrown into the trash. Too bad you couldn't have a separate bin for all the plastics you use there. I cringe every time I think were that will end up. Everyone likes to recycle....I even do it where I work. Experienced my first fish taco EVER at this location last night. Let me tell you I was not disappointed at all! A nice piece of golden beer battered fish between 2 corn tortillas with cabbage and pico de gallo....MMM HMM!! They also have a buck & below menu which is really cool for grabbing a taco with that change in your cup holder. $.70 for regular hard or soft tacos doesn't get much better than that. Del Taco is my favorite fast food joint, but that's probably because I only eat there twice a year. A good menu with something for everyone, cheap tacos, spicy sauces, even burgers and fries. It's not perfect, but puts Taco Bell to shame. I just wish they would put one in Tennessee. read more

After being dragged in, I gave this place another try. What a waste of calories! I decided to try one of their burritos as that is what they seem to be known for - the other items seemed pretty standard (i.e. tacos, quesadillas), so I decided to order the Epic Cali Steak & Guac Burrito. I could probably get over the fact that it was so poorly wrapped and mixed if it tasted good, but it was bland, way too many fries, guac was extremely limey - just overall very disappointing. I ordered the chili cheese nachos as well just to give them a try - she rang me up for the chili cheese fries which were more expensive - at least they ended up giving us the chili cheese nachos for free in addition to the chili cheese fries - except for the fact that they were both terrible. Let's just say that the fact that this place offers both burgers and tacos is strange and a big red flag that you probably should go somewhere else. Growing up with a family that cooked traditional Mexican cuisine, I am picky about my Tex Mex. That said Del Taco is a reasonably quick imitation of the food I grew up with. While it is not terribly authentic, in a pinch, it does the job. With few locations around the Metro-Detroit area, they have cheap, quick tacos that taste 100x better than Toxic Hell. They have everything ranging from breakfast tacos to overstuffed burritos, and all of them are reasonably inexpensive. This particular location does tend to be a little bit slow. I don't know why, but every time I come here the food takes longer than expected. When given the options of fast food in the area, I'm willing to wait a little bit longer. read more

I love Del Taco food. The Tacos Del Carbon with the double-wrap of corn tortilla and fresh cilantro are more like great Tijuana street food than fast food. I eat here EVERY time I am in Detroit. I like this place. It is simple, ambient, and welcoming. The reason why I drove there from detroit is the famous fish tacos I heard about from a friend. We started with a bowl of tostada, it was so good, vegetables are fresh and the corn shell tasted as good as I expected. I was so excited to try the fish taco, it was a killer. I'm pretty new to the Del Taco train, but I've been pretty impressed with it the last few times I've been. Their Platos are a new-ish offering that's more like a small entree you'd get from a sit-down restaurant. The beans and rice that are served with the meal are quite good, surprisingly. I also really like the street tacos. Pretty solid for a fast food place that also serves burgers and fries! Everything I've had so far has been served hot and fresh, and in good portions. Del Taco won't replace Taco Bell for me (I love me some TB!) but it's a good place to go when I want to switch it up. read more

I posted the following comment on the Del Taco website as part of the guest survey prompt on today's receipt: I have been a loyal customer of this location almost since it opened. Given the frequency I used to visit, I can say without exaggeration that I've been there *thousands* of times. A few months ago, the focus of this store became to prepare managers and staff to open a new location in Livonia. The long-time general manager disappeared, and service and quality have plummetted to the point where I've actually been avoiding coming in. It's been clear that the regular employees and leadership team are miserable under the new organization. Today, your lazy cashier made it absolutely clear she did not want to be bothered to take my order, and when I commented on the poor service, she made a nasty remark to me. (In my anger, I can no longer recall exactly what she said.) I came back, and yelled into the office that this place has gone downhill since [the previous manager] left. The cashier then told me if I don't like the service, that I shouldn't come back. I assured her that I will never come back. I have unsubscribed from the Del Taco mailing list, unliked your page on Facebook, and will never eat at a Del Taco restaurant again. I have spent a lot of time and effort encouraging my friends and family to try Del Taco. I will now spend even more energy letting them know how dissatisfied I am with this location, and Del Taco in general. Your business is dead to me. Have a nice life. I think Del Taco's beef tastes better and the fillings/toppings are usually plentiful, especially at this location. As others have mentioned, this is a slightly better version of Taco Bell aka Toxic Hell. Since I would give Taco Bell 1 star, I decided to give this chain 3 stars. I had the macho combo burrito. I can't identify any of the components that went into it except for refried beans. Basically, the same burrito experience I would have had at Taco Bell. Except that It tasted ok. I also had the tacos del carbon combo. Essentially what one would hope to find in a better Mexican restaurant. The tacos are soft tacos, pretty mealy texture. The steak one was good but the chicken one was only ok. I didn't really care for the crinkle cut fries. If you're starving and want some fast food Mexican, then this might be the place for you. If you can hold out to go to a real restaurant, you should probably do that. We shall see if this treats my colon better than Taco Bell. read more

I can't give less than a star. I had an experience with Amy who is the shift manager. For all the Muslim people and persons who have dietary restrictions please be aware that the management team at Del Taco on telegraph in Dearborn Heights are not aware they sell pork products. Amy does not know that bacon is pork an she told me that Del Taco doesn't sell pork when in fact they do sell pork and many of their products contain bacon. Upper management may want to consider retraining their employees at this location to avoid any class action law suits like McDonald's on ford rd in Dearborn, Michigan. That McDonald's was sued for falsely telling customers that their chicken sandwiches were Halal. read more

Okay, while on errands past 10 PM, my wife and I stopped off here, because there wasn't much open in the area. Previously, I believed that the place was moving in a more positive direction than when it first opened. Now, I am not so sure. First, according to the menu board, they eliminated turkey from the meat selections. The turkey was first domesticated in Mexico. Most fast food "Mexican" restaurants do not serve turkey. So, when this place was serving turkey, they were not only serving a genuine Mexican ingredient, they were also standing out from the pack. Now, they are right back to blending in with all of the other fast food "Mexican" restaurants which serve chicken and beef--ingredients which were introduced to Mexico by the Spanish. Now, the only way that they stand out is that they serve Californio style fish tacos. Second, I had a asada chicken taco. It was good, but it wasn't good enough to make this place stand out from the competition. I also had a beef burrito. It was also good, but it was not good enough to make this place stand out from the competition. Both were rather average for fast food "Mexican" tacos and burritos. Third, I had the chopped Mexican grilled chicken taco ensalada. On first glance, it looked like an ordinary chopped salad that wanted to be glorified nachos or botana; since, it didn't come with the standard tortilla bowl. It came with tortilla chips. However, it shouldn't even be given that much credit, because it only had three tortilla chips. Three tortilla chips do not make a salad "taco." The salad was put together by someone with no idea as to entice with the eyes nor how to entice the taste buds, because most of the ingredients were clumped together in one spot separate from each other. There was the equivalent to a cherry tomato diced in tiny pieces which were all clumped together instead of scattered throughout the salad. There was a roasted avocado slice which was boring compared to guacamole with its richer more complex flavors of avocado blended with onion and lime juice. The beans were nicely flavored, and, with them being done in a chili style instead of refried beans, they were a welcome change. Too much of the salad was simply chopped lettuce. There wasn't any corn in the salad. Corn was first domesticated in Mexico, and corn is one of the mother ingredients of Mexican cuisine. Including corn in the salad would have made the salad seem more Mexican than three tortilla chips. Over all, this was just a chopped salad with a few paltry tortilla chips in it. Boring. read more

Meh, Last time I got Cheese quesadillas here, they were as thin as paper, the edges were burnt, and it tasted like plastic, two bites in and I couldn't eat it anymore. But, on the positive sign, REALLY good churros! So I would recommend to get a burger there instead of the quesadillas. read more
