I am very partial to this place - it's close to where I live and it's a great little neighborhood restaurant with great food at good prices. It's a small place and there is always a bit of a wait so you need to go with the mindset of putting your name on the list, grabbing a glass of wine or beer and chill out on the street people watching and chatting with other potential diners (this is part of the experience to be honest). Expect to have a longer wait if there are 4 or more people in your group (best to go with 2). Ok - let's get to the nitty gritty. The food is just great. The menu changes frequently so if you ever see "sand dabs" on the specials list, order them and thank me later. I have ordered "take out"/ pick up from here a couple times. And, I think after so many good experiences, I feel compelled to write a review. You know, there are so many smaller places in SF, where -- they get busy -- and then all of the staff feels entitled to treat you like crap, be rude to you and tell you that you are in their way. This is not that place. In fact, I have been consistently surprised at HOW NICE everyone is, even though I KNOW I'm in the way, and am not where I should be. They are all very nice, despite a very hectic and busy environment. 5 stars for that, because they don't have to be. Many places really are not. Now, the food: Excellent. I love the Margherita and Panna pizza -- "simple," but excellent flavors. I did not like the clam pizza. Too salty, almost grainy and oceany. Not my favorite. The prosciutto is good too, but I still find the tomato based pizzas to be my favorite -- they are a little more flavorful. Fries with eyes = fried smelts. Awesome. Fresh Mozz = also awesome. As the eating machine I am, I like getting that with the Tricolore salad with lemon vinaigrette to go with the mozz. Super good, nice balance of lemon tang and cheese. Last time I was there, I ordered to go, and they offered me a glass of wine and allowed me to drink it outside while I was waiting. I thought that was nice. I wish there was a pizza place in the East Bay as tasty as Pizzeria Delfina. This place is my favorite, hands down. I always get the Margherita pizza. It's to die for. Mmm... very thin crust pizza with fabulous tangy tomato sauce and spectacular cheese always makes my day. We also had the very tasty fresh stretched mozzarella, a couple glasses of the delicious Pecorino and finished with the pleasant Belfiore Ricotta Cannoli. I'm not from SF, so I don't know if waiting 20 minutes for a table is a normal Saturday afternoon, but for a hungry group of 4 with a hungrier 2 year old along for the day with us it was close to unbearable having to watch people enjoy what looked like great cuisine. Thankfully a woman saw my nephew and shared a breadstick with him (they're free on the tables) and saved us all a huge headaches! It was fun and loud and the girls working there were really great, but I can't give this place a bunch of stars for cool people. The food was, to be honest, just whatever. I know. I know. But here's my thing--if we're gonna go somewhere and end up paying 20 bucks a person for a good meal I like it to be so good that there's hardly a conversation when the food arrives because everyone can't help but be enthralled with the pie. This didn't happen for any of us, all having ordered the risotto-ball appetizer, the chard, and margherita pizzas. Okay, so maybe this would leave it at three stars, right? Except for a really weird start to the meal altogether. Since it was a fabulously temperate day in the city today I asked for a lemonade while we wait. The great hostess obliged, and brought me a lemonade as quickly as she could. My first sip? Weird. Not a thought you wanna have with a lemonade. I handed it to my sister, who verbalized what I had just been thinking. The lemonade had a strange essence of meat... like some sort of spiced meat or something, as if the glass had been "washed" with dirty water or something! I don't mean to spread a rumor--I just think it's weird to have such a weird taste! So I asked quietly for a Coke instead and told the hostess how it tasted. Horrified, she made sure I got a Coke. Problem was, the Coke wasn't cold. It came out in a bottle (cute) and hadn't been refrigerated (not cute) and also had no ice to accompany it (definitely not cute.) If I want trendy pizza on thin crispy crust with innovative toppings I come to Pizzeria Delfina. The service is always top notch...even if you sit up at the bar you will not be ignored! I also don't think this pizza should be ordered "to go." The delivery time will affect the greatness of the pizza. Dining in at Delfinos will give you the full experience of its great crust. We love the Salciccia pizza and all their salads. Be warned. It's very crowded at Delfinos. If you don't like the push and shove of impatient customers who might be hungry and ticked off, you might want to go early or go late...or order to go and eat it right away nearby ... But either way you will eventually get addicted to Delfino pizza. It obviously has happened to all those crazy customers lined up outside the pizzeria every night. read more

What an amazing little gem! Stopped in here for a casual dinner, and were beyond floored by the service and food. This place is small, so don't show up here with more than 4 and expect to not wait a while. The restaurant is extremely narrow; a crisp white interior is accented by a beautiful mural along the back wall, setting a polished yet urban vibe. As a party of two, we were instantly seated at the bar overlooking the kitchen. The table was set with a lovely plate of pizza toppings (oregano dried on the sprig- charming and original) as well as some yummy bread sticks. Our waitress promptly took our drink orders and made sure our glasses were never empty. The chef engaged us from behind the counter, answering questions about the beautiful mushrooms which could be observed through the glass counter. We had the tricolore salad- which was exceptional. Who knew a simple mix of endive, radicchio, and arugula could be such a show stopper. The lemon dressing was perfectly balanced and accented the bitterness of the greens, while the cheese was a delicious finish. Put it this way- we came for the pizza and we were talking about the salad next day (not to belittle the exceptional pizza). We moved onto the margarita and prosciutto pizzas, which were to die for. The toppings were exquisite- but lets talk about that crust! Thin and delectable, chewy and crisp- this was the pizza of my dreams. This set the bar for pizza, and believe me I eat my fair share. The price point might seem a big high for what appears to be a somewhat casual experience, but once we tasted the food we understood the prices. The service was fantastic and the food was next-level. Probably the best thin-crust pizza I've had in the bay area. I ordered the Margherita pizza, which is pretty much my benchmark for thin-crust pizza and it was awesome. Nice fresh mozzarella, sauce is not too heavy, super-thin crust that's slightly charred/blackened on the outside. If I were to change anything it would be to have a bit more basil, but that's probably just due to my personal taste. I'll probably just ask for more next time. However, to me, what really makes the pizza is the crust, and they definitely got that down perfectly here. Hubby ordered one of the specials, "Amatriciana", since it's one of his favorite pasta dishes...he just loves the combination of the red peppers and bacon (or guanciale in their case). He thought it wasn't quite like it until the heat started creeping in when he was halfway through his pizza. He said he would definitely have it again, too bad it's not on their regular menu. Wines are very reasonably priced...we had a decent Italian wine for ~$7. Much cheaper than Delfina next door, where we had drinks before we went here. This place is tiny so you really have to get here early to even have hopes of finding a seat. There were some available when we got there at 6pm but almost everything was filled by around 6:30. I can't believe it took me this long to finally get to this place. Will definitely have to come back again and again. This is one of my new favorites in the Mission. If it weren't for the size of this place (it's extremely small) I would give it 5 stars, but there are always so many people in line that I think you'd have to come at really odd hours to get a table without waiting. It's a surprisingly small space! It sucks that all the best pizza places won't take reservations but i'm sure this has to do with being able to turn my tables and it does hype it up! I can assure you that Pizzeria Delfina does not disappoint. The pizza is only one size so i suggest ordering a couple or enjoying the appetizers available. The Stuffed Shells with escarole, ricotta, tomato, and anchovy was really something. The ricotta is creamy and the anchovy creates a subtle seafood flavor. I wished it was a bigger portion (not that it was so small) but our prosciutto pie followed not too far behind. It tasted so simple and fresh. It had an authenticity to it that many pizza places lose underneath their layers of cheese and random things like ham and pineapple?! This place is legit! The wait was long... LONG and that was after hunting fooooooooorever for parking on a Friday night. Unfortunately there is no reservations for this place. Maybe it was the fact that I hadn't eaten in about 10 hours when I ate here, but I have to say the pizza was damn good! It reminded me of Italy where the toppings slide off and they use fresh buffalo mozzarella on the pizza. It's a teeeeeny place that won't seat you until your whole party arrives, but it's worth the wait. We started with the tricolore salad, which was a cornucopia of flavor and had a nice refreshing lemony dressing. We also had the pulled buffalo mozzarella, which was sooooo good and melted in your mouth. My friend and I shared the Salsiccia pizza (sausage, tomatoes, etc.). It was so delicious I could have eaten the whole pizza on my own. For dessert we had the chocolate hazelnut torte, which was a little on the dry side, but still good. My friend's girlfriend said that every SF restaurant is rated 4-stars on Yelp and from what I've seen so far, it is so I guess take what I say with a grain of salt, if you want, but I really did think it was worthy of 4 stars. My experience and pizza was way better this time!!!! I came with about 12 people and we took over the outside seating area :) we ordered everything on the menu times 2 and shared all the food. There were definitely items I didn't care for and thus my previous hatred of a review. But their pasta of the day was totally my style of pasta and their spicy pizza was freaking knock your socks off good!!!! Oh and they sand dabs were again delicious! please put that over anytime I was eating and I will be a happy camper!!!! All and all, I get why people like this place, and of course it's connected to my favorite bakery!!! While I was on my way to grab a delicious Mission burrito for lunch, a friend and I passed by Delfina and decided to get pizza instead. It was a great decision. Delfina is usually packed with the line going out the door and today was no different, except that it was a bit gloomy and rainy outside. I had no issue sitting under a heat lamp away from the crowded interior anyway so we got seated right away on the patio. I like that the menu is simple enough to have classics like the margherita, but also carry daily specials like the chicories pie I tried today. To start, I love the red pepper flake, dried herb garnish, and cheese plate to compliment our pies. This is only the second place I've been to (the first being a Mario Batali restaurant in Vegas) that serves cracker-like breadsticks. The pies came out relatively quickly and within 10-15 minutes, we were chomping down our first pizza. The chicories pie was one of the two daily specials. It included country line chicories, two eggs, pecorino, and agliato. I was pleasantly surprised by how good and flavorful the chicories were. I had my doubts when I asked the waitress about the chicories and she said that they were salad leaves with a bitter taste. Maybe it was because they were seasoned well, but I liked them. This is also the first time I could taste egg flavor when they top a pizza. Everything went well together and the dough was crunchy at the crust and thin, but crispy enough to support the toppings in the middle. On the other hand, the proscuitto pizza with arugula did nothing for me. I couldn't taste anything past the salty cured-ham. The loosely placed proscuitto and arugula leaves didn't hold onto the pizza well when you took a bite so all the toppings came off on the first bite, leaving you with nothing for the rest of the slice. At around $20 per pizza (with tax and tip), I don't believe you're getting value for your dollar, but some of their pizzas are quite tasty. It's worth a try for some of their seasonal specials, but I would rather take my Jackson elsewhere. read more

Yesterday my hubby and I visited Pizzeria Delfina for lunch while in SF. I knew I wanted pizza for lunch and Pizzeria Delfina came to mind since we had been there once before and I remembered liking it. (I really wanted to go to Una Pizza, but they're not open on Sundays) Luckily, we were seated right away around 12pm on Sunday since I was hungry! We ordered their marinated olives (delicious!), Margherita Pizza, and Salsiccia. Margherita Pizza is my favorite - their version here is very good, but it's missing a little oomph for me. YUM! This place is pretty bomb dot com. We showed up on a Wednesday night and waited for about 30 mins for a table for two...we could have gotten seated a bit quicker if we wanted to sit at one of the few tables outside--but it was a chilly evening. We did grab a few drinks from a server while we waited outside though. We started with the hand-stretched mozzarella appetizer. I am a cheese fanatic. de-lic-ious! Definitely recommend for the vegetarians...there was also a mozzarella app that had meat in it--I am sure you carnivores would find it just as scrumptious as I found mine! I love super thin crust pizza. And boy is it thin here! Thin like a cracker and almost just as crispy. I can't stand a goopy, limp slice. Went here last summer with 2 other people and scored a table fairly quickly. This space is teeny, tiny. When I squeezed between the tables to get to the bench seat, I was very conscious of the fact that my ass was pretty much in the face of the next table. Good thing it's a cute one. What we ordered: Clam Pie pizza Salsiccia pizza (sausage) Napoletana pizza Insalata Tricolore calamari salad Mission figs The salads were really good and we wished the portions were just a little bigger. But we were there for the pizzas. The tables are really small so it doesn't take very many plates for it to become crowded. I've heard from others that as the evening progresses, they do run out of items. So going a little earlier to get what you're craving is a good idea. Also it's the Mission so parking is a bitch. Oh Delfina, the pizzas are really good but you're not the winner. Tomato is exactly how it's supposed to be, fresh and slightly seasoned with basil and olive oil, mozzarella was simply perfect but when it comes to the dough, I must say that both of our pizzas had a strange pastry consistence. Loved the broccoli rabe one with ricotta and dried tomatoes (although it was too heavy). I also liked the southern Italy selection of wines although the choice is really narrow. I've seen the cannoli being served to the table near to us......I'll check you guys back also for those. By the way, I somehow felt home when I saw the breadsticks on the table (they are ALWAYS on a pizzeria table, always) but when they brought us the cheesy parmesan, red pepper and dried oregano to season pizza, I realized that I was in the US. read more

Geez..this place is popping with folks all the time! Having eaten next door, I've been meaning to try the pizza. I ordered the Margherita to go. Just the atmosphere of music and people enjoying good food just filled the place. Looking at the open kitchen, I could see a clean, fresh ingredient workplace with such a laid back attitude. Very cool in a busy and frantic business. The pizza was good, but not the best ever. Excellent flavors in the cheeses and sauce. Although everything was fresh and tasty, I like my pizza a little crispier. The chilies, fresh oregano and parmesan added an extra kick. Back in my younger years I was lucky enough to be introduced to Pizzeria Delfina. I wasn't completely sold when a friend told me it was the best pizza he had ever tasted. The BEST? Come on, there's always something better than the best out there. Although to my surprise, he was right and I've been hooked ever since! Sometimes I dream about getting chased by firebreathing dragons that are out to kill me. Sure, fine, go ahead, but before you kill me, can we stop by Pizzeria Delfina? This place is consistently packed but it's never that long of a wait (usually less than 30 minutes). Even if the wait is a bit longer than expected, why not stop by Bi-Rite Creamery for some pre-dinner dessert? That never hurts a soul. You can never go wrong with a margherita pizza. My philosophy when trying new restaurants is to order something new, something I probably can't make myself at home. Although that's in reverse here. Trust me, order the margherita and work your way up. In its simplicity, it is one of their best pizzas. Sure you can get all the other toppings, but why weigh your pizza down with all that hugabaloo? This place has been so hyped, hitting it was like pre-death atonement, and although excellent, the pizza yielded no surprises. The crust while not quite authentic Italian - slightly chewier with more edge than you'd ever find on the Mediterranean coast (clearly catering to its american clientele) - was delightful. The toppings were exceptionally fresh and tasty. My friend and I split a satisfying Broccoli Rabe. (btw, that list of toppings really is complete-- no tomato sauce.) It was the best of European dining (no pressure to scarf food despite a growing queue + reasonable prices) with polite American service and free American water. Although the wait is excruciating (who on earth can stay sane waiting 30 minutes for a table when you can smell what's cooking in the kitchen?), you will be wowed by the quality of the ingredients used in Pizzeria Delfina's glorious pizzas. I started off my meal with a serving of their tripe, which I am now obsessed with. I don't recommend this appetizer for those with faint tummies, but if you like tripe, you'll LOVE their's. I forgot the name of my pizza (three glasses of wine at dinner will do that to you), but it was delish! I am a huge fan of thin pizzas, and their dough was perfect. The waitresses were so friendly that they made my 30 minute wait borderline pleasant. I loved the pizza here. Great little pizza place next to the Delfina restaurant. The pizzas are decently sized and range from $11 to $20 (if I recall) and I easily devoured mine as well as half of my gf's. The place is small, so prepare to wait if going on a busy night. I sat at the counter at the very end (where the bathroom and the kitchen entrance was) but I didn't mind one bit. We got to watch them make all the pizzas and I began to feel sorry for the guy in front of us... all he did was spread the pizza dough! Loved it. Will be back, but on a weekday that's not busy. Went in for dinner after work at 9pm. Put our name on the chalkboard, got seated at the counter in about 30 minutes. The place is super busy. There were folks waiting for tables and take out...at 9p on Monday! Loved the counter seats and our server. We had wine within minutes of sitting, a perfect thing in my book. We ordered the special appetizer of saffron risotto/short ribs/cheese all rolled into a ball and deep fried. YUM! Reminded me of a similar risotto dish from Beretta minus the frying part (one of my favorite things on their menu). For pizza we ordered the house made fennel sausage pizza. Gotta say the crust was perfect..totally crispy and light. I liked the spicy flavors. We were saying we'd like the Gialina topping combinations on the Pizzeria Delfina crust. The pizza place love child, so to speak. Would definitely go back for more. Next time we'll time it better so we could have a scoop of Bi-Rite for the ride home. read more
