Hands-down some of the best Indian food (my wife and in-laws will attest as they are from India). My wife and I are OBSESSED with Delhi Garden. If you are looking for flavorful, spicy, Indian food (and take-out of course!) that is also friendly on your wallet, this is the place! I have tried every vegetarian entree and almost all the chicken dishes, a few lamb items, and a couple of appetizers. Vegetarians: highly recommend saag paneer, paneer kali mirch korma, malai kofta and bhindi masala. Meat eaters: favorite dish is a toss-up between Chicken 65 (very spicy) and chicken kali mirch korma. Also recommend tandoori chicken, murg vindaloo, chicken shahi korma, lamb rogan josh, and lamb biryani. The chutneys are also of high quality (both mint and tamarind)!! Any for dessert, don't forget to grab some gajar halwa (carrot dessert). They are closed on Tuesdays FYI but are open on holidays (Thanksgiving and Xmas FYI!). If you have a Rutgers ID, you also receive 10% off!! It's pretty much a take out place (they have 1 or 2 tables out front if weather is nice) and a MUST THAT YOU ORDER IN ADVANCE! When you call on the phone, it averages a 35-45 min wait time and this place is EXTREMELY busy. Most of the negative reviews are regarding the owner who answers all the calls and saying she is rude. Let's clear this up, she is not rude but the phone rings non-stop at this place so that can be frustrating if you're the sole person answering it. Love this place. It feels like a mom and pop restaurant. For the price, it doesn't get much better than this!! It's so hard to miss, but it is seriously a gem of Edison. I always get the classic chicken and rice and they give soooooo much food for less than $9. If you're a Rutgers student, then don't forget to mention it for a discount. Just show them your ID. This restaurant is a bit out of my way and I had been wanting Indian cuisine. This place came up on my radar and after reading the reviews I took a drive over there. I called ahead (30 minutes) to place my dinner order. It was not difficult as long as you know what you want and the person on the other end of the receiver was polite, took my information and told the amount due and a customer pick up number. I arrived within the half hour and my meal was packed and waiting for me upon arrival and hot. Hands down the best authentic desi food around! We have ordered food for pick up from the restaurant several times now and have never been disappointed. The food is consistently delicious & leaves us wanting more! Some of our favs are: the chicken and rice (huge portion and so freaking delicious! This is one of those hole in the wall, extremely delicious homemade tasting type joints. I am absolutely blown away with the flavors they are able to deliver in their food. I got the punjabi kadhi and channa masala as a lunch special and it comes with rice and naan, and a bottle of water. All for only 7 bucks! That is a steal and these people KNOW good food. They use very little oil, and yet it's packed with flavor. I would also reccommend the gobi chilli and the vada pav! This will definitely be a new weekly lunch spot for me. read more

We were in the mood for Indian and didn't feel like going to a sit-down, so Delhi Garden was a great find. Thanks Yelp! We were told it would be ready in 40 minutes. When we got there it was sitting on a table, along with several other orders, waiting for us. This was a tiny, true hole in the wall, place with a packed parking lot and had many people walking in and out. You can't sit here, as there are no tables. You call them, they give you a number, and you pick it up. They also deliver but only up to a 5 mile radius. If pick up, and your order is between $25-$60, they'll give you 10% off. In order to get the discount, you have to pay cash and remind them when they're ringing you up. They also give 10% off to rutgers students. We ordered a mango lassi, veggie samosas, dark meat chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, an order of garlic naan and an order of regular naan. This was not the best Indian food I've ever had, but it was pretty good considering it was only $30 for all of this food. Also, the portions were large. The really good: This was the best mango lassi I've ever had. The consistency was perfect. It wasn't too watery like it is at some other places. It had the perfect balance of yogurt, mango, milk, and sugar. The vegetables samosas were pretty perfect. The order comes with two and they are large, crispy, and perfectly spiced. They're a steal for only 2.50! You can't go to an Indian place and not get naan bread. That's just wrong. We got an order of regular naan and an order of garlic naan. Each order comes with 2 large pieces. The garlic naan was really good but it reminded me too much of a garlic knot that you'd get at a pizzeria. Not a bad thing...I think I just prefer to soak up my leftover sauces with more traditional naan. Both types of naan were on point in terms of softness and flavor. The just okay: The stews we got were okay. The chicken tikka was a little too salty and the lamb vindaloo had a lot of really dry pieces of lamb. The sauces were good. This place is my holy grail for Indian cuisine and I can't stop raving about it to everyone I know. I LOVE their chicken biryani, mango lassi, naan, chicken makhani, chicken tikka masala, chicken tikka kebabs, and kati rolls (basically everything I have tried so far). Awesome portions for the price (~$8-$10 per entree). I have spent so much money and gained so much weight eating here since I discovered it about 10 months ago... So worth it. The only thing I have gotten that didn't really meet my expectations was the vegetable biryani. I asked for spicy and I received very bland and mild. Delhi garden is a hidden gem dishing out some serious indian food in highland park. FYI this place is take out only and you order around an hour ahead of time they are very busy and indian food also takes time to prepare. Literally everything we ordered was incredible. I'll start with the star of the evening, The chicken tikka masala. It had big beautiful pieces of white meat chicken and the sauce was perfectly executed in terms of flavor and spice level (we got it mildly spicey). Next the garlic naan. Some of the best ever had! soft chewy and tons of that awesome garlic glaze on top perfect for dipping into your sauce dishes. On to the Dal Makhani which is a vegetarian lentil dish basically like a large lentil stew which was also really delicious first time I've tried this dish and I liked it. Lastly, the tandoori chicken which is nice pieces of chicken on the bone that are marinated in yogurt and spices. The chicken was tender and flavorful it really exceeded my expectations. To sum it all up we had a wonderful meal. I will definitely come back here and try some other dishes. Everything was delicious but the chicken tikka will be a staple for sure. Love!!! This is one of my go to places for great Indian food. It's strictly take out or delivery. I've tried a wide array on the menu - paneer and veggie pakoras, samosas, a couple of paneer dishes, , the Hariyali chicken, lamb vindaloo, naan, lassis and most of the desserts. Every time I come in the food is consistently excellent. The chicken Hariyali is probably my favorie (and I'm not supposed to eat chicken). It's absolutely worth a little agony later - juicy, tender chicken pieces in a delicious green sauce (although it admittedly does not photograph well!). Their lamb dishes fall to pieces. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the pakoras - they are good but by the time you get them home they tend to get a little mushy. The service is also consistently excellent - they are friendly and helpful. The food is also usually ready in less time than they tell you. I was in bed all last week with a fever, a cough from hell, and antibiotic induced diarrhea. (look it up - it's a real thing smh). I hadn't been able to taste or smell anything for days. Yet, I was STAHVIN and looking for food that might open up my sinuses. Indian food!! Delhi Garden got sweet reviews, was super close, and the price was right so we placed an order. Palak Paneer Tandoori Chicken Bhinda Masala Chicken Tikka Masala all medium spiced Garlic Naan all for $51 OMG it was soooo perfect. First food I could actually smell all week so I know the spice was right. The curries were so creamy, the bhindi was the perfect texture, and service was fast and friendly. The naan was a bit fluffy for my tastes (why i give 4 stars not 5) - like another poster said I too prefer mine a little thinner with a butter glaze on top. It did have a lot of garlic (yessss) but next time I might try the roti instead. It's a takeout place but I kinda like that - instant gratification. The portions are huge - we ate leftovers for 2 days - and rice is complimentary. This is my new go-to spot. What a gem! read more

Dehli Garden is a take-out place, not a dine-in restaurant. That said, it has the *best* Indian takeout food in the area. And that's saying a lot, because the area is dense with Indians and Indian restaurants, and all the restaurants do take-out. Believe me, we've eaten in them all, and we've ordered take-out from many. How do you ever go wrong with chicken and lamb over rice?! FUARK halal food is so good. This place is pretty popular and I can see why. Its a small place and it's mostly take-out only with only few seatings on the inside. They're pretty busy on weekends so call ahead 30 minutes. They're also closed on Mondays. The chicken/lamb over rice is freaking delicious, but I like halal guys more because their spicy sauce is really spicy. I'm not sure what this place uses but the spicy sauce isn't spicy enough for me. I love how it's a big portion for only $7! read more

We loved the food so much that we decided to order it for the birthday party we were having this weekend. Everything we ordered was delicious. All our guests loved the food. I was very happy with the service and was very impressed with the packaging. when we went to pickup the food they packed each tray in a separate cardboard box so it was easy to carry and does not spill. Perhaps I'm just particular about a certain style of indian food... I don't know but I don't particularly agree with all these amazing reviews and have had food here multiple times. I will say however food here is not bad and generally very good value for what you pay for, but in contrast to other somewhat pricier places such as bombay blue you get less complexity in flavor. I don't know if they just use less spice or just cheaper spice. All I know is that generally most entrees don't quite satisfy in flavor. The exception to this is the samosa chaat though. That always hits the spot and is cheap :) Well the other appetizers I think are also well done. So TLDL, get appetizers here. I would personally skip the entrees. went there yesterday after driving back from the Beach and found on Yelp. This is exactly the kind of place that I would drive by and turn my nose up at and never try out. Luckily Yelp reviewed it well and my order was already called in. I didn't have a menu handy, but ordered Samosas, chicken Tikka masal, Chicken Kali Mirch, Paratha, Rice. Food took 30 minute or so to make and wasn't ready when I got there. I had to use restroom, so walked through the kitchen and was pleasantly surprised to find a very clean, hygenic area that was bustling with activity. I say this as the front entrance was unassuming and the prices so Cheap (my entire meal cost $26!!) that it would make you wonder about food quality. Ate the samosas on the way home. They were almost perfect. Well sized, Hot, not oily, great chutneys. They cost $2.50 for 2, so was a bit surprised and excited to get home. The chicken tikka masala was spot on and delicious. everything you could hope for in a well prepared well seasoned chicken tikka masala. My primary complaint was that the chicken meat (white) was dried out, but i have found that 90% of the places that do chicken tikka masala make this same mistake. My kids didn't mind. The chicken Kali Mirch i ordered medium, but was definitely on the milder side. Was a bit too salty and I didn't like fact that it was all dark meat. However now I have the menu and will try something else next time. Rice was great and paratha was decent. This is now my #1 takeout place in Edison. unfortunately not close to my house, otherwise would be going there more often. read more

Possibly the best Indian food we've ever had, and all from a nondescript, stand alone storefront on Highway 27! The busy driveway with cars pulling in and out was sign #1 that something good was afoot. We were not disappointed. It was tough to pick from the huge menu. The seasoning on the Chicken Tikka and Lamb Kadai was sublime, and free of the heavy, overpowering cumin that is a frequent spice in Indian cuisine. Saag Paneer was delicious, with the cheese just the right firmness when sinking your teeth in. Portions were average sized. Thankfully, Delhi Garden was open on a Monday when many of its brethren are closed... which is how we were able to experience this gem. The owner smartly chose Tuesday to be his day of rest instead. We will definitely be making the 40 minute trek back for food from this incredible find! read more
