I have yet to dine inside of Delhi Palace, but I did order delivery from them tonight through Doordash. Great experience with both the food and delivery. Being a long-time patron of both Shalimar and India Palace, I knew the menu at Delhi was similar and really wanted my favorites. I also saw some things on the Delhi Palace menu I don't remember being available at the other two restaurants so there are some more items for me to try in the future such as the chats. Those would be great for lunch sometime! Tonight, a Tuesday evening, I placed an order for two orders of vegetable samosa, an order of vegetable pakora, the Punjabi Bhaji, an extra order of Basmati rice, two orders of naan, an order of the pappad, and some mango pudding. (Yes, it is all for me! LOL) Just when my stomach was grumbling, my food arrived, and earlier than expected. I dug in right away. Everything was piping hot and delicious. The hot, crispy outside of the samosa and pakora with a hint of saltiness was divine. The bread was soft with crisp spots and perfect. I loved the pappad and my entree, too. I was/am too stuffed for my pudding so I am saving that for later, but I had one little taste of it and it was so good. I requested my entree "hot" and boy was it! Unlike Shalimar, if you ask for "hot" here you get it. That is one thing that I am always unsure of when asking. I think sometimes it is toned down for people like myself. When my dad and I would get "medium" at Shalimar, it was sometimes not spicy enough, especially for me, but their "hot" is more toned down than Dehli Palace, too. My food tonight was GREAT, but my aging stomach can't handle knock-your-socks-off hot like it used to so I may reword my spice level next time so it isn't QUITE so hot. Delicious though! This was my first birthday without my dad, but this meal made me feel more like he was here enjoying it with me. I feasted like a queen. I have enough left over for at least a few more meals so I will be in hog heaven all this week. My dad and I used to pass Delhi Palace quite often and had been talking about visiting sometime. You know a place is good when you go by yourself just to get your fix. Seriously, folks. The lunch buffet is top notch - affordable ($8.99), delicious, and well stocked. Being veg*n, I rarely do buffets as there are not many places that offer or can do veggie dishes well. Enter Delhi Place and their *5* vegetarian entree choices on the buffet every day for the win! I could eat the Palak Paneer and other yummy veggie dishes every single day. They also have some veggie fritters, naan, rice, and other potato cake type goodness (the name is escaping me) that rounds out the plate nicely. Dessert? Why, yes - they have an amazing carrot based dessert among others, too! The staff has always been nice and attentive without being overly present. Get a loyalty card and they will stamp it with each dine in visit - one stamp for a lunch buffet purchase and 2 stamps for dinner purchases. This is a very reasonably-priced Indian buffet (for lunch) at less than $10 (after tax). It's located in a busy strip mall by IUPUI along with about a dozen other quick serve restaurants (including another Indian one). The manager is a rude little guy who doesn't know how to treat and talk to people.The food is terrible. I ordered a non veg thali. The only item that was somewhat edible was chicken Tikka masala. They have the worst biryani.they are false advertising mixed rice and curry as biryani. I went there after looking at good reviews about their biryani. It is an insult to biryani to what they serve. This is my favorite of the downtown Indian places because I find it more flavorful than Haveli or India Garden. However, I've never eaten in the restaurant because parking is difficult in the strip mall during lunch and it is a dimly lit, narrow place with fewer tables than some other places. The chicken tikka masala is great and not bright orange, and I appreciate that they have also offer Saag with potatoes rather than just Paneer cheese. Make sure to get a punch card when picking up a take out order. They'll often give you extra punches and make it really easy to earn a free entree or lunch buffet. read more

So after I leave the IUPUI campus, they finally decide to have more ethnic dining options within walkable distance. We were reunited this Saturday. After a grueling exam, crammed in the lecture hall seats, with half-sized pull out tables hunched over for hours - it was chow time for a celebratory finish. Delhi Palace is in that nook of eateries on Indiana Ave. Being a frequent of Amber on the northside, we decided to give this new lunch buffet a try. I was a little confused upon walking in whether to seat myself or have the waiter seat me since there's no little booth there. Just to let you know ahead of time - a waiter does seat you, just that he's running around tending to things before he notices your puzzled look. They have a good sized buffet table with both vegetarian and meaty staples. They also had this delicious lentil soup with hints of cilantro. Slurpin' yum! Garlic or plain naan is self-serve on the buffet trays, so they're not as great as the ones that come off piping hot as you order at Amber, but still decent. If you're a goat fan, they have this stew that's loaded with chunks of goat vs. other places where meat is sparse and bones are plenty. As for the chicken tikka masala and saag paneer - they were a little on the bland side for me, but if you like less spice infused dishes - then it'd be perfect for you. Would I come back here? I had been to the Delhi Palace on the northside quite a few times, as well as India Palace and Shalimar, but somehow had never made it to this location before this week despite the fact that it is walking distance from work. I think I have a new reason to at least once in a while forgo my usual lunch at the desk while continuing to work. A coworker and I walked over and when we arrived at about 11:45AM, there were still some tables open. By 12:15, there was a line out the door; we were glad we got a bit of a jump on the lunch crowd! We had the buffet, and, in my opinion, this was definitely the best of the buffets offered by this local chain. The variety was great! The curried goat and all of the vegetarian dishes were wonderful! Everything was extremely fresh and hot. Dishes on the buffet were replenished regularly, and the staff did a great job of keeping up with the crowd. The dining area is much smaller than the other restaurants in this chain. If I had a bigger group, I think I'd probably get in the car and drive to India Palace, but for a quick lunch break this will now be my go to place when I'm craving Indian food! read more

Being from Cincinnati and having your pick of great indian restaurants around the university heights area, I'm always a bit skeptical when I try indian food out of town. I've been told by out of towners that Cincinnati has the best around, and it's pretty damn good. So after a long day of work, gym, and cleaning, I found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. I got in a little before closing 9:30 on Thursday and the place was obviously empty. I expected the man working the register to be a little peeved that someone was coming in as they were closing, but he was quite friendly. I ordered the chicken vindaloo for 11.99 medium spicy to go, and my order was out in 5 minutes and I was on my way home to chow down. The interior of this place seemed very clean and well kept, and I noticed the empty buffet calling my name for another time. I got back to the apartment and noticed how much food you get, I could smell it in the elevator and my mouth already started to water. It was mounded up over the top of the plate and started to fall off onto the table! The first thing I noticed is that the sauce was greenish-brown which is usually indicative of being cooked without draining the yogurt, (which is how I like to make it) and heavily spiced, and very little cream. I also noticed that the chicken had tons of ginger, so much that you could actually crunch it. This didn't bother me as I love ginger. Was quite spicy, and well seasoned. If you like chicken tikka masala with orange sauce you're probably not going to like this dish, but it suited my tastes and the meat was very tender. Delhi Palace hits the spot. I love my Indian food and I come here with my Indian/Pakistan friends. Lunch buffets are the best - you can always find $1 off coupons SOMEWHERE. You can do lunch buffets to go too! You fill that box up and you eat it for several meals! Sometimes parking can be annoying in the plaza but patience is a virtue for a reason. Bathrooms are clean. Service is just fine. This is a staple. I will be back and I will always leave happy and stuffed (working on just leaving full, one day). Chicken Biryani is calling my name as I write this. New to Indian food? Must try Chicken biryani, chicken tikka masala (aka CTM!), Tandori Chicken. And eat dishes with naan. This is a sharing place if you come for dinner (not the lunch buffet). I went on a Sunday and felt comfortable and attended to by the staff, and that was nice given that it was busy (which does not surprise me!). I used to go to Delhi Palace all the time when they had a location up on 86th St. This was my first time at the downtown location. I met up with friends who work at IUPUI. It was super convenient to their office and we just walked over which was great. It looked like there was plenty of free parking though. We had the buffet for lunch. It was good, but not my most favorite or mind blowing..... That's probably a good thing for me so I couldn't go crazy overeating. (I love naan a little too much!) Why I gave it 5 stars though vs 4 is because it's really affordable and they have a huge selection of items on their buffet. My friends and I also had a really nice waiter who was super attentive and friendly. He even gave me a to-go cup of extra chai. Maybe other Indian restaurants do that as well, but it hasn't been my experience. I would definitely go back and give it another shot! read more

When i asked for more rice he got upset because he's too busy to add another order and i don't understand. I've been to this location so many times and have ALWAYS had an amazing experience! HOWEVER, this was by far the ABSOLUTE WORST customer service that I've experienced in my life (and I'm not being dramatic). There was a change in waiter which was the cause of all our issues. Firstly, the waiter was an absolute jerk and was just being rude the entire time. We told him in the beginning that everyone was paying separately and some were together so he might want to write them on a separate check (his first mistake). As he was taking our orders we each told him that it was a separate ticket, reminding him to write on a different check, which he didn't do. Throughout the service all he kept saying was "the kitchen closes at 9 so make sure you order everything". Which we completely understood. After our appetizers, a couple of us wanted more and wanted to order more samosas which never came. Again throughout the service he had a very nasty attitude which was very unwelcoming. But honestly, that was just the beginning. At the end, he came back and asked about how we were going to pay (pay attention). We told him for what felt the thousandth time that we were paying separate and some together. To which he responded "uhhh... just come to the register one by one" and we were like that's fine, it might be too much. We each went one by one while others were finishing up and telling the guy what we ordered and paid for. Majority of people paid with card however there were some that paid in cash. As the last people were paying, the rest of us were outside and I decided to come back and check on them since they were taking a long time. As I went back in to check on my friends, they said apparently some people did not pay for their food. There was apparently $30ish of unpaid items. The owner came and said the receipts aren't adding up and essentially someone paid for it. We told the owner "well everyone is outside, we can call them back in and figure it out. Because that doesn't make any sense". The owner walked away and complaining that he's been there all day and just wanted to go home. (I don't really blame the owner, I understand since he was the only one cooking) Everyone came back, we went through all the items that were ordered. When I saw the waiter, he didn't even write the separate checks!! He had it all on 1 check and just had how many orders of that item were ordered. (for ex: 3 orders of samosas, 4 chana masala etc) Everything added up so we were good there. Then as we suggest going over the receipts to make sure it adds up, the waiter THREATENS us. He states something along the lines "I'll see you guys when you come back or we'll see what happens next time". At this moment that waiter is fed up and not having it as US, the customers, are actually trying to figure out how $30 just doesn't get paid. We tell the waiter fine, lets go over the receipts. He doesn't even go over the ACTUAL receipt rather he wrote them on the opposite side of the check as totals. We were like that's absolutely the dumbest way to keep track of money. He goes over each total and each person claims their amount. All except 2 people who paid in cash. He had the NERVE to say oh you guys didn't pay. I'm not joking when I say they both paid and were right before and after me. The reason I know is because not only did he not give those who paid in cash a receipt but did not give the correct amount of change. And guess those 2 people, who HE DIDN'T document totaled to the missing $30ish dollars. The waiter had the audacity to first just stare at us like we didn't catch his mistake but then proceeded to be like "oh who's gonna pay". And we were like, no one is paying because this was your mistake. The waiter denied his own mistake and just blamed us. Eventually, he just gave up and we left. I've been to this restaurant countless times and love their food and service. But this was by far the WORST experience. And you have honestly lost all of us as customers. The fact the waiter couldn't admit his own mistake and then proceed to threaten us was absolutely mind blowing. I don't ever make reviews on yelp, but this experience was bad enough to make me want to. If you do ever go to this place, then here's some tips. Come as a small group or order either pickup or delivery! Honestly, I would give it 0 stars. If the owners are actually reading this and take your reviews seriously, PLEASE train your waiters or fire the little short guy with a buzz cut. read more

My wife and I love trying Indian restaurants and had a Discover Indy coupon to entice us to try Delhi Palace for the first time. We are admitted Chicken Makhani snobs and we ordered the dish that was listed as a Chef's Special on the menu. We asked for a seafood recommendation and were guided to the Shrimp Korma that was prepared with cashews and raisins. I have never commented that Makhani was not sweet enough as sometimes it is overly sweet but the preparation at Delhi Palace could have used more of whatever makes Makhani sweet. As an out of stater, I only find consistency with the staple ingredients at a small popular local restaurant in one of the major states. The university is lucky to have an authentic restaurant near. The lunch buffet here is such an incredible value that it can making dining a la carte in the evening seem like buying something full price at Anthropologie. Yes, it's lovely, but . . . you probably need a special occasion to justify it. Delhi Palace is such a convenient location in reference to IUPUI and the downtown hospitals, and it's even a great spot for high rise employees looking for something different than their usual walk; easy parking if the lunch rush isn't too mad. With a large assortment of tasty and varied dishes, I would love to give this place 5 stars, but the last three times I've been in, our tables were wiped down with a smelly rag and just can't abide moldy smells. Attn: MGMT; shoot me a note when you figure out the mildew issue and I will happily come back, but right now I find the odor so distracting through the whole meal that I can't enjoy my food.
