Fun west town fusion with great drinks and good food options. We had a reservation for Friday evening it wasn't super busy so this would probably be a solid option for a walk in. We started with the Caribbean empanadas (beef) which were loaded with filling and a perfectly toasted. The filling had a lot of flavor and these weee a perfect start. We shared a paella which had a ton of flavor and was full of seafood. Personally for a paella I really want the crispy rice (socarrat) but this was saucey. Dell Rooster is in a fun part of West Town. The decor and music are charming and inviting, as is the service. We had many questions (it was our first visit) and our server Olivia provided many helpful answers and recommendations. The house cocktails were excellent (a Mango Caribeño and a solid Vaquero Old Fashioned). The appetizers were worth filling up on. Don't miss the Ravi Encendido (oxtail and cheese on plantains) and the creamy Corn Empanadas. We took half of our entrees home, and look forward to finishing them! First time customer and made a reservation for brunch. Restaurant had a large group seated and a couple of other tables, but was not busy at all. We were seated right away and given water. Over 23 minutes went by before the server asked if we had any questions and I just said we want to order a drink which came pretty quick (2 cans of beer). We waited another 20 minutes or so before the server came back to take our order and then we waited over a half hour for the food to arrive. My friend got the breakfast tacos and I got the short rib hash with 'crispy' potatoes. The potatoes were RAW so I sent it back. They made me a new dish but my friend was done eating by then. The remake still didn't have 'crispy' potatoes and some chunks were raw again. I took a few bites and took the rest to go. The flavors were really good and I wanted to love this place but it just didn't hit any special marks. It's also interesting to note that they don't offer avocado or salsa verde but all of their dishes are Latin American fusion. This is hands down some of the best food I've had in a very long time! The ambiance, quaintness, & flavorful friendliness of the staff is why I'll be back very soon!! My friend and I decided to check it out for brunch. I ordered the Rooster and waffles and she ordered the Ropa pal' viejo. Both items were absolutely delicious. The hidden star was the pepper and spinach salad underneath the rooster and waffles. It added the perfect contrast of texture and acid to cut through the sweetness of the dish. The chef and manager came to our table to check in on us and I let them know how much I truly enjoyed the food. Dell Rooster is an amazing Latin American restaurant located in the heart of West Town. I came here with a few girl friends on Thursday, and we were blown away by the service and food. The owner's daughter served us and was very detailed in guiding us through the menu. We ended sharing the coconut shrimp and corn empanadas for appetizers. They were both so incredible, and I still dream about them. For the entree, I ordered the short rib barbacoa which was truly melt-in-your-mouth. My friends also enjoyed the paella and Argentinian fideos. To finish the meal, we ordered the tres leche which was again, incredible. We couldn't believe it, so we had to check it out, and we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent, and the pricing was great for the quality. The wait staff was kind, took the time to explain different menu items, and even offered thoughtful suggestions for our order. On a separate visit, Chef Miguel personally went to each table to greet guests and ask about their dining experience. I've now eaten here several times, and each visit has been a great experience. The only area for improvement is the speed of service. The last few times I've visited, I noticed that only one waitress was servicing the entire restaurant--hosting, bartending, taking orders, and serving food all on her own. First of all, kudos to our server, Erica, who was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. She did not steer us wrong, even though in some cases, we chose things outside of her recommendations. For appetizers, we got the stuffed dates, chicken croquettes, and coconut shrimp. The star was definitely the highly recommended shrimp. They were beautifully crunchy, and the mango salsa was . The dates and croquettes were good too, but the shrimp took the cake. For entrées, we ordered the short rib and grits, pernil and half chicken. We absolutely loved the short rib and pernil. The short rib was super tender, and the creaminess of the grits just served as a beautiful compliment. The pernil was incredibly flavorful. The chicken was a little underwhelming. The sauce was a little on the bland side. The skin on the chicken was super flavorful but a little chewy. All in all this is a must try, especially if you live in West Town! read more

I wish we could say this place was amazing. I wonder if they had an off night. We ordered Papa Bravas, the Paella and Breaded Chicken. It was all salty! I couldn't eat it. Even now 30 mind later my lips are still salted. But maybe it was an off night based on the other reviews but I'm not sure we will go back. There were only 2 tables and I felt awkward dinning in as the waiter asked if we had reservations off the bat then sat us on the smallest table. Even asking for refills felt like I was a bother. We picked this place due to its 5 stars on Yelp. Chicago reviewers can be pretty picky! I'm posting a review because my experience wasn't quite 5 stars. Food and service were as described in other reviews. We got the french toast with pineapple and coconut which was fluffy and tart and sweet! The chilaquiles were solid flavor-wise but not the best I've had. However, we definitely caught Dell Rooster on a bad day. Their steak and tortilla shipments had not come in, so most of the brunch items we tried to order off the menu were not available (steak and egg tacos, steak jibarito, breakfast burrito, etc). Additionally, I have a cinnamon allergy, so I was unable to get a coffee because they only serve Cafe de Olla - coffee brewed with sugar and cinnamon. They comped my husband's coffee as a nice gesture to make up for it! So if you're a coffee addict but don't do cinnamon, just plan on getting your coffee somewhere else. read more

First impressions are what? We walked in with no reservation. I didn't make one because I wasn't sure when we'd make it and they had every time slot open so I thought it would be no issue. When I told the host we didn't have one she frowned and made a stink like the restaurant had a Michelin star. They had 6 tables in the back that were open but she had to seat us at the bar. As we waited 20-25 minutes for breakfast food I watched 3 different parties come in without reservations sit in these tables. It kept going wrong- little things to poke the bear. There was lipstick on my coffee mug. They brought the wrong food. We had to ask for silverware. We felt like a bother. They were very unapologetic. Okay the food will be redeeming right? Yelp says 4.9 stars... Pancakes were dense and hard to cut through. Did someone forget the baking soda? Tacos and enchiladas were both one note. Sorry, we won't be back. Felt judged. read more

From the worlds coldest beer, to the amazing specials, to the insanely thoughtful food, to the servers it literally doesn't get better!
