Incredible sushi at a great value. The pieces are huge, and the service is charming and very friendly! It is a small venue with outdoor seating only, on the second floor of the town center. Very much worth a visit if youre a local or out of town traveler.

Absolutely delicious! Found this place searching for sushi nearby. The rolls are MASSIVE! I definitely was not expecting the rolls to be so big. Full of flavor and definitely satisfied my sushi craving. If you're a fan of baked rolls, get either the baked salmon or the dynamite. They're so good! Everything was yummy; even the California roll. Support this local business and you will not be disappointed!

DelSushi operates out of a second level suite in the Villa La Jolla Plaza that is in close proximity to the UCSD campus. The seating was all outdoors in a narrow corridor in front of the entrance. You can't sit inside, and orders were taken at the doorway like during the middle of the pandemic. A menu sheet with photos along with a multiple page menu booklet were available for viewing. The focus was not only for takeout and delivery but also towards the nearby students with a late night closing time of 11:30 pm. Over thirty types of maki rolls were offered with the most expensive ones priced at $17.99. Appetizers, wonton soup, dumplings, potstickers, and rice bowls were the other categories so it wasn't only sushi being sold here. All of the menu prices seemed reasonable, especially for those on a limited budget like college campus residents. I chose a Love Love Roll and the Pork, Shrimp & Chive Dumplings for my meal. It took at least 10 minutes for the kitchen to prepare the two items. The roll was riceless and consisted of six pieces of tuna, spicy tuna, and avocado served in a plastic takeout container. The spicy tuna had a light bit of heat to it. The dumplings came as a quantity of twelve. They were freshly boiled and served on a rectangular plate. Condiments like soy sauce, vinegar, and hot sauce were provided on the side. For $13.99, the quality was good for such a price. If you have a late night sushi craving and live close by, then DelSushi can satisfy that urge.

super thin pieces of fish :(

This place isn't awful per se but they cheap out on ingredients. I ordered 3 rolls and the fish/eel was so thinly sliced I felt cheated. These sushi rolls are big but mostly fake crab. The avocado is cut at an angle to make it seem like it's a decent sized piece. But when you turn the rolls over you can't see the avocado on the other side. Prices are on the cheaper side and you definitely get what you pay for :/ I recommend seeking out other sushi options if you want to actually eat sushi and not repeated mouthfuls of fake crab.

This is a great late night sushi spot to try! (and it accepts triton cash for ucsd students) There were several sauce options and each roll was pretty good. The spicy tuna crunch roll was definitely my favorite and really refreshing. The spot only has outside sitting from what I saw but there is a good amount of seating. If you want to eat there I'd recommend it on a night that isn't so chilly!

I found this place on-line, site unseen, and walked up to pick my order up from a small, kitchen-only sushi spot (there are a few seats outside, but not really a place you want to dine at). It seems family run, and when I said my name, the woman almost apologized for the fact the maguro I ordered was really otoro. Ok, wow! Yes please! I go to a sushi place in America for the fresh fish, not cooked, and this is the best sushi and nigiri I have had in a long time (if not attempting to go to a Michelin star type place). What a find! Also, I would have spent much less money if I knew the nigiri orders contained 8 pieces instead of the more usual 2 ... but no matter because my kids gobbled it up. Highly recommend this place and wish I lived here instead of the Bay Area because this would be a regular in my rotation.

Super Delsushi Roll I think?
Lindsey M.

The food was absolutely amazing. We tried the baked salmon and that was delicious and I wish we had more than two! My favorite part of Delsushi is how generous they are with the fish, especially with the salmon roll, that's definitely a must have. I'm pretty sure the first picture is of the del sushi roll and it was so huge we had to cut it up so that felt a little wrong. Service was great and quick(but not too quick that it was premade if you know what I mean). Lovely little place and the patio was nice but definitely more of a take out place but the seating was nice.

Super cute place and owner! Sushi was good and she made sure we were taken care of. The rolls are huge so you definitely get your moneys worth.

Oh I was craving late night sushi, and I really really wanted to love this roll! I'm a huge fan of baked rolls and lobster... yes, please! Unfortunately, the execution of this wasn't that great. Way too much mayonnaise cloaked the flavor of even the lobster and the roll was so mushy. If I tried this place again I would avoid this roll and go for a raw one.

The sushi is always so good and fresh here and the owners are very nice. When we went to pick up our order, they gave us a sample of a new menu item and it was delish

The first time I went, I tried the steak rice bowl, which was incredibly delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the gochujang butter, grilled onion, and sauce all paired very well with the steak. The second time I visited, I had the salmon don, which came with a generous portion of various cuts of salmon. The salmon was extremely fresh, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The shochu highball was recommended to go with the salmon don and it was incredibly refreshing and delicious. The service here is also incredible with the staff being very friendly and attentive. I also recently found out that this location is under new ownership and the new owner and head chef, Simon, even personally stopped by to make sure that everything was tasting great. Simon mentioned that he's planning on introducing some new dishes to the menu soon, so I'm excited to see what else he comes up with! This place is definitely a must try if you haven't already!

A fire pit was available in one of the outside patio areas. The total seating capacity could easily handle close to 100 diners. I have visited twice with relatives when they have come into town. The most recent time was for a weekend lunch in which we sat inside at a booth. A two-sided menu sheet was handed to each of us, however my cousin did all of the ordering. Items that we tried included a Rainbow Roll, Ocean Way Chef's Choice, Grilled Hamachi Collar, Bluefin Don, and Nigiri (uni, scallop, yellowtail). The seafood was very fresh, and the presentation of the Chef's Choice was beautiful. My favorites were the pieces of nigiri. The servers delivered the plates fairly quickly given how much we ordered. One of the chefs came out of the kitchen and introduced himself to our table. I have not dined at the Carlsbad branch, however I do recall trying Blue Ocean/Harumama in the La Jolla Cove area several years ago which left a good impression. The prices weren't cheap for the fish quality, but they weren't overly inflated either. For sushi at this mall, I would definitely recommend Blue Ocean Sushi & Grill over the newly opened Japanese restaurant in the northwest corner.

Akari Sushi is an absolute gem tucked away in a quiet pocket of La Jolla. As longtime fans of SoCal…read moresushi (we've spent years eating our way through the Normal Heights menu ), we don't say this lightly: this place hits. The fish is incredibly fresh, high quality, and thoughtfully prepared -- and Chef Goody's menu absolutely slaps. I'd love to give specific recommendations, but truly we've been blown away by everything on the menu. You can't go wrong. Definitely peep at their daily specials list, too. Service is fantastic and friendly. The chefs are happy to chat, and always make excellent recommendations if you're unsure what to order. It feels welcoming without losing that elevated, special-occasion energy. Perfect for a date night, but also surprisingly accommodating for kids, which makes it an easy go-to whether you're celebrating or just craving really good sushi. It's one of those spots you almost don't want to tell people about... but you also don't want anyone to miss out. If you want top-tier sushi in La Jolla, this is it.

GOOD SUSHI IN LA JOLLA (4.3 stars)…read more - FOOD: pretty good; very fresh fish - PRICE: fair - SERVICE: excellent - AMBIANCE: quaint sushi restaurant (which I like; nice and quiet and chill) I knew something about the execution was familiar. I didn't know it until after eating there and reading a review that this is the sister location of So Cal Sushi (in Normal Heights) and after comparing the menus it made sense! What stood out to me when I knew nothing about this restaurant was that spicy tuna is in majority of their speciality rolls and after tasting it I had thought 'this seems familiar' - sometimes spicy tuna (in anything) can be overdone, played out, or not really cared for. Same thought when I first ate at the sister restaurant in Normal Heights when they first opened years ago - too much of it. But overall execution of the meal was good. :: ORDER :: MISO SOUP ($3.95) - served with wakame, negi, and tofu. average/typical. KURODAI ($9.25) - they have rotation fish list and saw an offering of Kurodai and had to try it. First of all, my favorite is Nodoguro but they didn't have that and was told closest to that was Kurodai. Honestly, I thought differently - didn't really come close to Nodoguro but Kurodai is also a nice cut of fish. The texture was somewhat firm and the taste was light and clean in flavor with a little subtle ending taste of faint sweetness. The fish was extremely fresh and you can taste it immediately. HIGHLY RECOMMEND CITRUS BLISS ROLL ($21.95) - spicy tuna, krab, and cucumber. Topped with salmon, avocado, spicy mayo, crunchies, and unagi sauce. I loved how they make the rolls - not too much rice nor dense packing, very tender and soft roll, easy to consume and eat more without feeling full, and the perfect amount of cut rolls per serving. You can taste the spicy, little bit of creamy, and a good amount of citrus... and if you dunk the roll in soy sauce you get the salty. It is a good roll if you like spicy and citrus - for me I like citrus more than spicy. The roll was good I ate everything, BUT I do feel there could be some improvements. I know people love spicy but when it comes to raw fish - that needs to shine in the sushi. yes tuna is basic but overkilling the flavor to make it spicy isn't for everyone (as it's in nearly every speciality roll). I would recommend lowering the spicy in the tuna because it already has spicy mayo included + it allows the customer to control their spicy level. The sriracha takes over the taste and when eating sushi the spicy for me should come from the wasabi (not soaking good quality fish in a sriracha bath). I wish they also offered their rolls with regular tuna instead of spicy tuna. I will def be back! Overall great place. Until the next bite...
