We tried the flaming saganaki, chicken souvlaki, charbroiled chicken reganati, herbed chicken linguini, veggie penne pasta pomodoro. Lunch today - lamb burger....awesome! If you're in area and want something tasty, something different, and really a GREAT meal, try this one. Had never had a lamb burger, but this was a huge burger, nice slice of feta cheese, small seasoned greens, topped with some tasty aioli - and of course Dimitri's fries (which alone by themselves have to be the tastiest fries). Came in for lunch with party of 5....we ALL ordered the lamb burger. ALL 5 of us cleaned our plates. Meat was a bit done for my liking, but still awesome. Been here again and again and service and quality of food is always great. Whether it's a Friday evening or lunch, service has consistently been very friendly and extremely attentive! I also love the bread and potato garlic spread they bring out in the beginning, but be careful not to fill up on this delightful dish. Once again I enjoyed the dolmathes and fried calamari. Was fighting an awful cold and craving soup. I remember having this wonderful lemon chicken soup in Chicago so I immediately got on yelp hoping to find something similar near by. And there it was...Demetri Taverna offered Avgolemono soup. Not many Greek restaurants do. I was hesitant at first but had to give it a try...and so glad I did!Their soup totally hit the spot - lemony flavored chicken soup. We ordered the flamed saganaki, I ordered the side Greek village salad, and my BF ordered the gyro Caesar salad. The saganaki was amazing! It was so cheesy and so good, especially with the soft chewy pita bread. My Greek village salad was delicious and it was the perfect portion. Hands down, the best dining experience I've had in a long time! As mentioned by other reviewers, all of the staff here is extremely friendly and accommodating. Our server, Antonio, was especially helpful! My friend just recently discovered an allergy to gluten and dairy, and Antonio ensured that her meal would be tailored to her dietary restrictions. The owner was also walking around checking on tables, keeping the mood lively and making sure everyone was enjoying themselves and their food. If I could give a bonus star for awesome hands-on management I would! I ordered the chicken souvlaki pita and shared an order of pita and hummus. Everything came out quickly, and all of the plates were so bright with fresh ingredients. The only issue I had with my meal was trying to take my first bite of my pita because it was so huge-- but I'm not complaining! The portions were very generous, and the food was all flavorful and well-seasoned. I thought there was a great balance of flavors from the pita, and the chicken was perfectly cooked. Toasted bread with potato garlic spread!!! OMG! Soooo good! I have eaten the gyro and the Drunkman's Stew which were really good as well, but the stew was amazing with the bread...don't eat one without the other. A friend and I had dinner Friday night and we were both super impressed by how organized they were for such short notice on re-opening outdoors! Tables were spaced out, the hostess sanitized the table right in front of us and there were lots of heat lamps. Very much a safe and warm feel. I am really happy we stumbled upon Demitri's Taverna while in town to pick something up. I had the Chicken Souvlaki pita for lunch with the pasta salad. For the price, the portion size is great. I left very full and happy. The quality and quantity of the chicken was great. It was very flavorful and cooked well. The pasta salad was a great side dish. It tasted fresh, homemade and was seasoned perfectly. I had a taste of fries which were also very good. The complimentary toasted bread was also very good as I was starving when I came in. I tried the gyro wrap which came with fries on the side for $10.95. The fries, while they were hot and crispy, were just ordinary. Both the gyro sandwich and the tsaziki sauce were tasty and well prepared. Portion was decent and the prices were a tad high but the excellent service made up for it. We stopped by for lunch about two weeks ago. This restaurant is right by the First Street Fountain. We sat outside & the weather was perfect. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. He did have a heavy accent and was a bit hard to understand. He brought our some grilled bread, which was okay, but not hot off the grill. We started off with a small Greek salad and Avgolemono, which is Greek chicken lemon soup. The salad was fresh and had lots of premium stuff: kalamata olives & Greek cheese, ripe tomatoes. The dressing was delicious. So glad we ordered this! The lemon soup was delicately flavored. You could tell it was made from scratch. We enjoyed this too. DH got a gyro plate ($11.75), which is one of their most popular items. The gyro meat was flavorful and fatty in a good way, lol! We wished there was more of the tangy tzatziki Greek yogurt dip. The fries were seriously HOT and delicious, as other reviewers have mentioned. We also got a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale which was on tap. Pretty good size beer for $4.75. Served frosty. Came on a Sunday afternoon and they were not busy so we got seated right away. Our server was very nice. She answered all our questions about the menu and also gave us plenty of time to decide. We started with an order of the hummus and pita. the pita bread was warm and lightly toasted and the hummus was excellent. I'm not sure what they put in it, but theer hummus is a much darker color than what we're used to. They also gave us complimentary bread with a garlic mashed potato spread. It was a nice surprise because not many restaurants provide complimentary bread baskets. Being complimentary, it was absolutely delicious!!!! But we had to keep from eating a lot of it because we still had the food. My partner ordered the lamb burger with a Greek salad, which was their special of the day. The burger was HUGE!!!! I didn't try it, but my partner said it was good. The only thign was he ordered it rare and it came well-done. We didn't complain because we were hungry. The side Greek salad was a big serving as well. It was pretty good and i was surprised it had big slices of feta cheese! Most of the time, Greek salads only come with a few crumbs of feta. The salad was very refreshing and the amoutn of the dressing was just right. I had the gyro sandwich with a side of the garlic feta fries. The sandwich itslef was huge and I like that they didn't skimp on the tzatziki sauce. I was a little disappointed though that it didn't come with any lettuce. But the sandwich was very good! The gyro meat was not salty nor tough. It was very flavorful! The garlic feta fries were sooooo good!!!!!! I would've preferred more feta, but that's just me! Overall, our experience was very good. My friend and I stopped by for lunch. She is a Muslim so we asked one of the workers who was outside on his phone if the meat was halal. He said he would check as we proceded to sit down. He got our waters and we had to ask again if the meat was halal. He came back and said the gyro meat is. When our waiter came to take our order, my friend asked which items were halal and he said that the meats were not halal. I told him that the other guy told us the gyro meat was halal and he apologized for the miscommunication. It was obvious that the other guy didn't even ask. That was definitely ignorant of the guy to tell us the gyro meat was halal. When we received our bread, we asked our waiter for balsamic vinegar and said he would come back with it. A few minutes later, I could see him in the mirror making a drink. I thought it was a drink for a customer but it was for himself. I turned around and asked him for the vinegar. What we ordered: Calamari - crispy and tasty homemade sauces Prawn Gyro - good amount of prawns Hortipita Garden Pita - nothing special, would skip Service wasn't great and the food wasn't anything special. I haven't been to Demitris in 10 years. A girlfriend and I were in the area and I say hey... being Greek there is this really good Greek place in Livermore. Should we stop there if its still open? And to our luck or back luck it was. Walking in, it was unorganized, my friend and I were seated by ourselves in the back. The waitress took 25 mins before coming to take our drink order with appetizers . I ordered the Metaxa Mule, and my friend a glass of white wine. I see my drink is made and sitting at the bar in the reflection of the mirrors. About 30 mins after ordering our waitress brings my drink and asks my friend what she ordered. Not like we are ordering huge amounts but come on. We order appetizers and wait a good min... before the food comes the waitress comes and takes new alcohol orders and disappears. I see our drinks made and sitting on the bar waiting to be delivered. Then someone brings our main course. We start eating without our drinks and after a long time I finally get up and be say something. Hey... our drinks are on the bar counter waiting for now 25 mins, we are now almost done with our food, and I get you are busy but we are spending a lot of money in alcohol 4 drinks in total, 3 appetizers, and 2 main courses. Nobody came to check on us until I said something. And we were pretty much done with our meals before our last set of drinks were brought. And I watched them sit there for 25 mins before saying something. I get being short staffed, but I would have rather been told they couldn't seat us. The food was as good as I remembered but unfortunately the horrible service was absolutely too much to swallow. I was truly excited to start coming to frequent a good Greek food place now that I'm back in the area again. Looks like I probably won't waste my money with this place again. Husband and I have always enjoyed Demitris. We are both vegan and have enjoyed the vegetarian options on the menu. That was until we found out that they make their tomato sauce with CHICKEN BROTH!! Nowhere in the description of the vegetarian options does it say that chicken broth is in the sauce. NOT OK!!! The waitress was respectful enough to tell us that and we were very grateful!
