I wish we could have given more stars. We were certainly expecting to, considering the rave reviews by other yelpers. Let's start with the positives: perfectly charred sliced bread and addictive potato garlic hummus. We practically fought over it. Then the Greek salad: just the right level of chilled, crispy, colorful veggies; bountiful portion that was right for two; topped with a thick slice of feta. Nice presentation. Then the disappointments. Hubbie had Yiayia Veggie Pie and I had the special: sole with lemon sauce, veggies and cooked mixed veggies. While they had eye appeal they lacked taste. We spiced it up with Greek herbs and Tabasco. Helped slightly, but honestly?! Shouldn't have to add table spices to make a dish tasty. Ambiance was great: happy patrons, Greek decor, bright but not garish lighting. Service was spotty. He was friendly. But he was a little inattentive and forgot to bring my beer, the glass for my husband, didn't really respond to my comment that the entree was bland, didn't offer any extra bread when we were down to one in the basket. The complimentary bread and garlic bread has been so good in the past, but today the bread was stale. The lamb burger was also amazing the last time we ate at Dimitris, but it made me sick to my stomach today. The bread on my burger was cold and I couldn't eat it. The burger patty itself did not taste like it had just been grilled. It must had been sitting there for a while. I am so disappointed and feel sick to my stomach. Not a good combination. One of my favorite spots in Livermore. I have been here multiple times and always love the food and the service. They are kid friendly and going here with my 3 year old is always a treat. My favorite dishes are the tri-tip sandwich and chicken souvlaki gyro. We also love the complimentary bread served before the meal. Definitely give this place a try! read more

We were looking for a place to eat and Yelp led us here. We met Dave's mom and dad for dinner here. The restaurant was pretty crowded but we managed to get a table quickly and didn't have to wait. Dave's parents were celebrating their 36th Wedding Anniversary so it was the perfect reason to order some Greek wine. Our waitress recommended Skouras St.George Agiorgitiko Red wine imported from Greece ($37 for the bottle) - the wine was good. For Appetizers we shared : Spanakotiropita ($8.75) - baked filo crust stuffed with spinach, herbs and feta cheese - a solid 4.5 stars, the generous helping was very flavorful and the crust was crispy and flaky. Imported Greek Sausage ($8.75) - charbroiled and served with lemon wedges - a 3 star dish and definitely on the pricey side for what you receive. Dave's mom ordered the special of the day which was salmon wrapped in grape leaved with a lemon butter sauce - she said the salmon was well cooked and the sauce complemented it well. Dave's dad ordered the Dolmathes Avgolemono ($13.50) - stuffed grape leaves with ground meat, herbed rice, egg and lemon sauce. This was his first time trying this dish and he enjoyed it immensely. Dave ordered the biftek - meaty gyro on top of a warm pita with tomatoes and onions and tzatziki. Also came with a side of fries. Dave thought his dish was delish! I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki ($9.25) all wraped in a warm pita with thinly sliced tomatoes, red onion and tzatziki, served with fries. Those darn fries were addictive and the chicken souvlaki was tender and yummy. For dessert we shared baklava - a generous helping and one was piece was enough to share between the four of us. This place was recommended to us, and since we'd had a long day of barrel tasting, it was great not having to look up a place to eat. Parking was pretty easy, but I guess that's just how downtown Livermore rolls. The sloppy joe fries disappeared in a matter of seconds. Not only were we hungry after a long day of barrel tasting [cheese+crackers can only go so far], but they were quite tasty! I was surprised at how quickly they disappeared, but then again - I was dining with four guys. For our entrees, two ordered the gyro pita, one ordered the gyro sandwich, and another ordered the Mediterranean burger. Being the adventurous one in the group [j/k], I ordered the sanddab special. Garlic butter = YUM. I heard no other complaints as the plates were cleaned off. Demitri's was delicious, and the service was friendly enough. Even though the burger took a little longer to make its way to the table, as soon as we asked about it, it appeared. Water was filled up promptly too. On our way out, I made eye contact with one of the guys behind the bar, and he asked me how the food was. Overall, a yummy and satisfying experience. At about $15/person after tax+tip, not too pricey. I wouldn't mind going back to Demitri's again. I read somewhere about the bread and garlic butter shmear, and now I'm wondering what I'm missing out on! Perhaps we were too early? This spot is also much too close to the fountain downtown. I tried to pull the reins in on the complimentary grilled bread and scordalia (a creamy potato/garlic/olive oil spread) but then decided to let my taste buds enjoy the ride. If the Greek salad was walking the runway with its homeland counterparts, it would give them some stiff competition. No "find the feta" moments here, instead this salad was decked out with 2 large, herb sprinkled slices. I appreciated the use of fresh field greens instead of romaine with generous additions of bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and Greek olives. No solo riding greens here and enought for two to share.. The gyro was wrapped in a warm, fluffy pita with a large portion of meat. A bit more tzatziki would have blown it away. The fries were outstanding. I don't know how they do it but they stayed crispy for the entire meal. Greek food loves retsina. It's not on the menu so make a special request of your server. It was just OK for me. Went out to work with the lunch crowd and this is where they decided to go. Lunch seemed a bit overpriced for me and we ordered 4 Gyros, a steak salad and a Chicken Florentine Sandwich and it took over a 1/2 hour to deliver. We had dinner here last night, and I like this place. It's quaint, it's small yet roomy, and they have a full bar. Sure wish I had known about this place when I was golfing a lot in the Livermore area. I'm not a big fan of Greek food, but this place is as good as it gets around the area when speaking of Greek/Mediterranean cuisine. They were out of the LAMB CHOPS last night, which is a good thing, because then I would have probably given this place 5-stars. Lamb is my kryptonite. My brother mentioned to me that they sometimes serve up LAMB BURGERS as a special at this tavern also, which is why he loves this place. Sorry, Demitri. No lamb chops. No lamb burgers. Came here with my Mom and Grandma for a nice dinner after seeing a musical at the local theater. What a cute place! Wow Livermore sure has changed (for the better) since when I roamed 1st Street back in high school. Service here is awesome! They are on point here with having such great people working here. Pleasant, knowledgeable and professional. Our waiter was so cute and really made us feel at home. Even the chefs greeted us goodbye on our way out. We ordered a few dishes and they were all only okay. =( I ordered the skewered prawn salad and it was fresh and tasty. I liked the prawns in it. Don't be expecting a lot of prawns, I only got about 5 but that is pretty typical of any restaurant. The lettuce and olives were very flavorful. My Mom and Grandma shared the Greek Village Salad. Very tasty...cucumbers and tomatoes chocked up into a salad. Hummus and pita was pretty good too. The big letdown....spanakotiropita which is a baked filo crust stuffed with spinach, feta cheese and herbs. I did not like this and neither did my Mom....it was really bitter! My Uncle makes this regularly for Christmas and ick! this was the worst we ever had. Overall a cute little place and I probably would come back since service goes a long way with me. Demitri's is great. For a while we were going about once a week. I usually get the Gyro because it is fantastic. The meat is good quality, moist, and flavorful. When I am feeling like mixing it up I'll get the Gyro salad or the Gyro pasta...just can't get enough Gyro! My wife also likes Demitri's. She usually gets the Chicken Souvlaki and/or the Greek Salad. She is picky with her meat and really appreciates that the chicken is good tender white meat. The owner is a cool dude too. He'll often pour himself an ouzo and drink a shot with you. He hire's pretty cute waitresses too...but they are also friendly and good servers. The only bad thing is that seating is sometimes limited and they must not have AC because it gets super hot inside during the summer. However, that problem can be solved if you can get one of the few tables outside. read more

We all decided that we like Demitri's better than Casbah Cafe... Chicken Souvlaki (chicken was Moist with great flavor) and Flaming Cheese (You gotta try this!) were the highlights of the night... I'll start off by saying that I loved the service AND food here. This place definitely deserves 5 stars. I came here about 4 years ago and honestly couldn't remember it well enough. I went again a couple of months ago for my friend's birthday and I'm glad I did. We ordered the hummus appetizer that came with about 6 different types. I remember one of them was a feta hummus. They were all delicious, and we were served bread with a side of garlicky mashed potatoes (which I thought were incredible - yes, I got excited about their mashed potatoes). I ordered the chicken pita which I thought was very good as well. It was actually a good sized portion because I ended up taking some home. I know I ordered a cocktail which was recommended by our server, but I can't remember which one it was. All I know was that it was really good, just like their food and service. :) I will definitely go back soon. read more

First night in Livermore and I'm super excited to Door Dash some food. I picked Demitris based off of the yelp reviews and it did not disappoint! I was a little indulgent and ordered like, Everything on the menu, but this is by far some of the best Mediterranean food I've had! We've been back to Dimitri's about three times recently and have enjoyed the food each time! Once sat at the bar, which was cool, and then twice just at a table. I really like the veggie sandwich. And I also tried one of the salads ... can't remember which one ... like a veggie one ... ha ha OK this review update is not very helpful! I tried the pasta salad instead of fries most recently, and it was OK but nothing special. I mean, definitely Greek-ish with the olive pieces and stuff, but I think the fries are a better choice. Service has been friendly, though sometimes friendlier than others. I got the Hillas (sp?) Greek beer for the second time ... I thought I'd remembered liking it the first time but this time I couldn't quite finish it. Will probably pass on it in the future. I don't go to Demiti's often enough. I always go for lunch and I always get the same thing: Tri-Tip Cesar. they do a really great job with this so I rarely stray. I've had the gyro. The gyro is great. Their hamburger is great too. Maybe the best in town. But me? I'm a Cesar man. Good selection of beer. Always great and friendly service. Stopped by here for a liquid lunch today! Were seated and greeted straight away! Lovely seat out on the patio enjoying the beautiful September weather and watching the world go by! Ordered the Greek Salad and husband orders the Mediterranean burger! The meals were good portion size and they give you fresh bread and hummus complimentary! The house wine was delicious too! I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience today! The staff were polite, attentive and great service with a smile!! Hubby and I stopped by before our Family Day visit to the Livermore Lab on Sunday. Needed a good meal before tromping around lab grounds and our sudden decision to attend the National Ignition Facility tour. I have a picture in the laser target chamber to prove it. The atmosphere is light, clean and bright with a good dose of Greece's greatest easy listening hits playing in the background. Two televisions played a Yankees game (even though I know A's and Giants were playing locally, darn Yankees) and golf. Service was friendly but our server got a little distracted as the place started to fill up. We received grilled bread with the house potato/garlic puree spread. One of my favorite parts of the whole meal! I really want to try doing this at home. I ordered the gyro with fries and hubby got the souvlaki with fries. Unfortunately when our food came she brought a chicken souvlaki, again distracted. Hubby probably should have sent it back but didn't. A buttery, chewy flatbread was generously filled with gyro meat, tomatoes and onion. The meat was good but nothing superior to other gyros I've had. The tzatziki was cool, creamy and had a great garlic kick. The whole wrap needed more cucumber. Fries were crispy, apparently always served with a side of ketchup (blech!). All in all a decent meal coming out to around $20 for two with no beverages and somewhere I would visit again if craving a gyro in Livermore. read more

I've been meaning to try this place forever and decided to pull the trigger last night. Things started a little shakey, I had called to put my name in 30min ahead of time and when we got there the place wasn't half full but we still had to wait another twenty minutes to get a table. What totally saved this place was very nice staff and really good food. I had this eggplant, beef, potato, pasta thing that was really cool and totally different from anything else i've tried in town. It was similar to a lasagna in structure but also had a a 3/4 inch layer of what i could only describe as a cheese soufle on top it was really cool. Not as much fun as alehouse, not as yummy as Los Vaqueros, but definitley worth putting into the rotation of restraunts we frequent in livermore. read more

I thought about deducting a star for how long the food took on my to go order but once I took the time to look around and see how hard every worker is kicking ass at there job I %100 changed my opinion. Saturday at lunch time busier then ever all the servers and host are working together to keep every customer happy while multi tasking and keeping the business clean and organized. Not to mention the kitchen staff all in sync with the owner Demitri and his awesome crew slaving away to make sure every plate is perfect and sent out ass soon as they humanly can possibly get it out there. This place is a gem in the local community and I will always be a repeat customer I am disappointed in myself for not making a review sooner for these hard working individuals.
