Luckily a table became available in their bright and cheerful dining room as the five of us entered! Making a selection of what to order was a challenge. Though very friendly, I wish the server could have help us more with the menu. Still ... so fresh were my chosen ingredients to be mixed into Deng Ji's delicious piping hot broth. Cold appetizers very good, and the brown sugar rice cake excellent still. Soup may have some MSG in it, though, as we were very thirsty after. Wow, very comforting experience. Went around 9 pm on a Tuesday, yet the restaurant was nearly fully. Some in full pajamas, some with full families, all ages. So many elements of these dishes stand out but don't overpower each other. Extremely tender spare ribs. They were falling off the bone in the soup. Love the fried pork belly/bacon. Adds a savory, rich crunch to a soup. And easily some of the best rice noodles I've ever had--chewy but not bouncy. As a spice lover, I appreciate the table chili oil and Szechuan oil. Came here on a whim on a chilly day and we were mind blown at how good the food was. Noodle soup came out in a clay pot that kept the soup warm the entire meal, papaya salad was interesting (I've only ever had Thai style, but this was also delish), and service was fast and prompt. Although the bbq skewers tasted good, it was a tad bit too oily. Also, the place is pretty small (table wasn't big enough for the amount we ordered) and they fill up pretty fast for dinner. While it sits in the shadow of its far more popular sister location (#1), Deng Ji has been a consistent Yunnanese option that has won over locals and become another wrinkle in the luscious fabric of Flushing's rich regional Chinese food scene. They've come a long way since their early pandemic makeover. Even though the space is small, they've made it brighter, modern, and perfect for folks wanting a clean and contemporary environment. The tables are all aligned along the walls for maximum usage of the dining area. It's still a place for small groups and the solo diner. Sitting at the window is a hideous view of their massive HVAC. Yikes. Food wise, the name of the game is rice noodles (mixian). The guo qiao rice noodles come in a set and the guan guan rice noodles are more akin to a stew. It is authentic to their region and not terribly common in most parts of the country. The former is a bit like a bento box, a set with a number of items and makes for a perfect mini-variety situation. Something I found super interesting was that their skewer (肉串) section is noted as "shashlik" which is a term commonly used in Central Asia and Russia. I don't think what they offer here is any different than most Chinese skewer places, except a majority of it is vegetarian. Beyond pork belly, chicken, seafood, and beef, the rest are veggie friendly options such as fried chives, eggplant, green beans, and fried enoki. The rest of the appetizers are a little unmemorable with the exception of the deep fried tangyuan and the pumpkin cake. I would avoid the scallion pancakes and frozen shumai if it all possible. Price wise, nothing is too glaring and the service is solid overall. Great noodle spot! They aren't on the main street of Flushing but still, all of their tables in the outdoor seating section was full and most of the tables inside as well. The tables are spread out at a good distance from each other so it was comfortable to dine indoors. They actually have a pretty big selection of items to choose from on their menu from a variety of appetizers (both hot and cold) to skewers and their most known entrée, the rice noodles. Even for their noodles, there's a lot of different ones to choose from too. I ordered the Beef Guo Qiao Rice Noodle and really enjoyed it! All of the ingredients are fresh and brought out in individual small plates within a box. Then, they bring out a pot of boiling soup in a pot meant to keep everything hot which they mix in the fresh ingredients (meat, veggies and all) and the noodles that are already cooked. I really enjoyed it! The noodles are yunnan rice noodles so they were thick round noodles but had the perfect texture of not being overcooked and still chewy. The portion was actually really big - there were lots of noodles and plently of meat and veggies (mostly mushrooms). The broth was also very rich and flavorful so it was really tasty! I love that it remained hot through the entire meal too. A great spot for yunnan rice noodles plus lots of other appetizer items and small plates to share. The price for noodles is a bit higher than other places in the area (since Flushing has lots of great cheap eats), and depending on what you get, but the portions are big and it's tasty so go give it a try! always walked by this place and intrigued by all the little dishes they give you for the rice noodles. we finally stopped in recently to see what they're all about! the restaurant is pretty spacious and half full when we stopped in. there are lots to choose from, ranging from the different types of rice noodles, to skewers, to cold dishes, etc. we ended up trying these: -xiu cai guo qiao rice noodle: broth comes PIPING HOT and the toppings come in a separate tray. the staff will add all of them to the broth at a lightning speed. the presentation factor is pretty cool. the rice noodle had a nice broth and noodles were cooked nicely too. -spicy beef guanguan rice noodle: didn't seem too spicy but once you give it some time, you realize it's SPICY SPICY. huge portion with a good amount of beef. -sliced beef and ox organs in chili sauce: sliced beef and tripe in an authentic szechuan chili sauce. this was really good! -preserved egg with chili: not for the faint of heart but i do love preserved eggs (aka. thousand year egg). it has a nice rich, umami flavor. the dish comes in a mortar and pestle like set-up, which the staff will then mash the preserved egg and chili together. really nice seasoning, but the chili peppers were realllllly spicy. i think using less of it would be much much better. i think this place surprised me quite a bit. the apps were great and rice noodles were hearty and comforting. will return to try more non-spicy options! read more

The restaurant specializes in rice noodles and I can see why. The noodles are delicate as they are firm and the hearty seasoned broths are a perfect pairing of the two. We ordered the beef stew for two with spicy broth. Since I wasn't sure on the spice level. I had them dial it down on the scoville meter. They can adjust the spiciness level to accommodate your taste and spice/pain threshold. The beef stew was amazing and placed on top of a portable propane stove on your table which kept everything piping hot. The flame on the stove was adjustable too. The beef was literally fork tender. There were also cuts of tripe, tendon and mixed veggies to complete the meal For appetizers we ordered the chicken and lamb skewers. Perfectly seasoned with cumin and moist and tasty with the right ratio of fat mixed in. Credit cards are accepted and though they only have one bathroom, it's very clean. Service was top notch, but I noticed English is not the language of choice here, but the servers knew enough to understand you. Parking spots are difficult to find so go early to look for a spot. I'm kinda mixed about the restaurant. We had four people and wanted to try different things not just the noodle pot. We ordered the noodle pot for two. The waitress turns to the two other people at the table and said if they are ordering that what are you ordering? You can't just order that and split. That kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. We haven't finished our order...We then also ordered the wood ear cold dish, scallion pancakes, spicy thousand year old egg dish, and cold seaweed dish. We asked if we can order 2 extra noodles and the waitress promptly said no. But left no reason so we asked why. She said you can only add one to the noodle pot. She saw that we weren't satisfied with answer so she added that extra noodle will change the flavor of the dish and that the noodles will get soggy. Then she said oh it's policy that you can't order two. So what was it? Policy or just random excuse? As one table freed up, instead of asking/seeking us to see if we were willing to give another party the table that just freed up to a party of 4 because another table that was smaller just freed up and could accompany 2-3. This is probably one of the worst restaurants I have been to in years. Pictures on the menu are deceiving. Menu doesn't explain what's in their signature noodle (first 3 pages of menu). We asked the waitress to explain the differences of their signature dishes, but she was impatient and annoyed. The waitress, probably is the owner, recommended the most expensive dish to us. She gave us attitude when we decide to order something different than what she recommend. Aside from their service, I was very disappointed in their "classic" noodle set for two people. This place is new. It just opened on June 21st, 2015. This place used to be called Lucky Noodle House. We stopped by here for dinner on a Monday evening. The place was busy but we were seated immediately. They don't serve everything on their menu yet as of now. They offer 20% discount for their grand opening special. The service here is just great! Our waiter was very polite & helpful. Our waiter mentioned that this place serve Hunan cuisine. We got the spare ribs noodle soup & the hot n' spicy noodle soup. The noodle here is rice noodle, not the typical hand pulled noodle. The food was good. The portion is a bit small. In our opinion, their noodle soup is only good for snack or you might want to add some appetizer to fill you up. If you want to ask question about the menu, it's best to come here with someone who can speak Mandarin because the waiter here barely speaks English.
