    Combo Kabob Dinner
    Kathleen L.

When we are in the area we love dining here. Today my husband ordered the chicken breast dinner and it is so filling and delicious! I ordered a side of Falafel but they were overcooked... almost too hard to eat! They still tasted yummy and I would order them again even if they were cooked the same way! The people working at the register were really nice but the guy cleaning the tables kept bumping into my bad leg. I have it slightly hanging over the edge of the booth so I don't get the booth seat dirty/wet because my knee is injured and I cannot bend it... he could have walked around the other side of the table near us (see photo) and I felt like he purposely came on our side of the table to hit my leg because it was up on the seat. One time ok.... But come on... twice. Ouch! Makes me not want to eat here anymore. Hopefully this wont happen the next time we dine here. Giving 5 stars for the food!!

Regular gyros sandwich at Dengeo's-- a beast!
    Steve H.

I have been coming to this location since they opened, nearly 30 years ago. Prior to that, my family had been going to the original location which has now been open 50 years. There are a lot of reasons why the restaurants are open this long, great service, great food, clean location, reasonable prices. On my recent visit, I had just a gyros sandwich and it was more than enough to carry me from lunch time through dinner: Regular gyros sandwich at Dengeo's -- whopping amount of lamb, a fantastic sandwich size, really high quality meat, always freshly cooked, delicious tzatziki and vegetables. The tilapia is always excellent, as is the Greek chicken. A Greek salad is large and absolutely filling. I think I've had dolmadis before, but I've really gone only for these three previously mentioned Main items. As a dessert, you can't go wrong with baklava, sticky gooey sweet with plenty of nuts inside, although not a huge piece. There is plenty of parking on the side and in the back. If you've never been, Dengeos is a must go!

Let me just say that Dengeos has always been a solid dive in the BG area. The food is delectable and hits the spot every freakin time! The foot traffic reflects as such, as there always seems to be an abundance of hungry mouths coming in the door. The store itself is always kept in pretty good condition and has never felt bland or outdated. It serves as great place to hang with a group or even a date spot. It has all the fine qualities of a local joint. The Hotdog is on point and has the great Chicago flavors we all have come to know and love. The fries stick the landing as well, but have nothing truly to write home about, but I digress. As I always must, I of course tried their Mozzarella Sticks. They average a solid 4 on the savoriness scale, if ya catch my drift. The marinara included to compliment is regretfully is not as up to par. It is not horrible or inedible, but it just isn't what it could be. It could just be that I prefer something sweeter, but I shall move on. Overall, a meal at D's will always leave one satisfied, and is truly a privilege. Keep up the good work and good food, you guys rock!

Wanted to eat at a fast food sit down restaurant with the family and we landed at Dengeos in Buffalo Grove. When I lived in Morton Grove, IL - I'd frequent Dengeos in Skokie and I really liked their food. When we walked in the restaurant, it was about half full and we were able to get a spot to sit immediately. The order takers greeted us and let us know that they can take our order when ready. The place was lively and it appeared everyone was enjoying their food. After we placed our order it was ready in appropriately 12 minutes. We ordered, the Butterfly Shrimp Dinner that came with a Greek Salad, fries, and garlic bread, Skirt Steak Sandwich, Spinach Pie that also came with a salad, side of Greek Potatoes, and fried mushrooms. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and had a nice crunch and tasted like any other fried butterfly shrimp. The garlic bread was tasty and the bread has a nice chew. The crinkle cut fries were crisp and was had the right amount of salt. They used the same garlic bread for the skirt steak sandwich. I was told the sandwich was just ok as it was a little over done. Also, it didn't have much flavor to it. The nice sized spinach pie was flaky and the filling was a good mix of spinach and feta cheese. It was creamy and yummy. The Greek potatoes were too salty so we asked them if we can switch the potatoes for the Greek rice and they did, no questions asked! I could taste the lemon in the rice but it was not overpowering. The fried mushrooms paired well with the Tzatziki sauce. Overall we paid approximately $56 Dolars which included 3 fountain drinks. I feel that the portions were enough to satisfy our hunger. Was the Buffalo Grove location equal to the Skokie location? Yes! It was no different! If the family wants to come back to try the other menu items, we would!!!

We just discovered there is a Dengeos location within 20 minutes of where we live, which was an amazing discovery! I used to get Dengeos at the Skokie location during college and when I worked in the area a long time ago. This location is great at everything they do, similar as the Skokie location. The employees were very friendly and helpful during our dining experience. On this visit we ordered dine in meals and had a few items we ordered for take out. They had a seamless process to handle that request and they executed on that process as intended too! In so many cases lately at other places, execution has been the biggest issue. This location has a large dining room with both booths and tables, with a few TV's on each of the walls playing sports. When you first enter the restaurant, you're greeted with the long counter where you place your order with one of the few employees taking orders. They will call your order number when it's ready for you. They have bussers who come around to clean off the tables and pick up empty plates etc. Ee weren't sure if we were supposed to take our plates to a trash area or leave them at the table at first. The food! So good, just like I remember from the other location. The portion sizes are large, take a look at the picture I posted for the chicken and half rib combo, we expected 1 piece of chicken and half slab of ribs. We got half a chicken, the ribs, Cole slaw, baked potato, and pita bread. Dengeos is by far one of my favorite Greek gyro, burger, hot dog spots! I haven't had anything that I didn't enjoy from Dengeos. I doubt you'd be disappointed if you go try it!

Falafel (5) and Hummus + Pita
    Katie M.

I hate to even write this, as the staff was so incredibly kind and patient with the large group I came in with, but the food just wasn't good at all. I ordered the falafel and hummus + pita, and it was so bad, I had to throw it out even though I was really hungry. The falafel was so dry, I couldn't even swallow it, and the hummus was a very odd texture and lacking in taste. This place was PACKED, so I can only assume their other menu options taste better, or everyone here has lost their tastebuds. Hard pass for me.

    Greek Village Salad

I hadn't been to Dengeo's in probably 15 years so we decided to try it again on a Friday night. This is a strictly order at a counter and pick it up when called location. Rather than some of the traditional offerings of gyros, hot dogs, hamburgers, etc, we decided to give the salads a try. We had both a Greek village salad and a Chef salad. Both of these are about $13 and come with your choice of dressings. The Greek dressing, however, is really more of an oil and vinegar with a few flecks of seasoning in it. The basic ingredients result in substantial salads that I would have preferred with a different dressing. It can get noisy when busy, especially with groups of kids.

    The restaurant impeccable !!

And, dare I say, better version. Except for their avgolemeno soup. Such a weak travesty. Please fix this. It's just a watery mess. However, everything else is delicious. I ordered the Greek Chicken with their lemon-butter rice. They debone the chicken and serve atop a mountain of their rice. If also had their potatoes (which are good) but the rice is magical. The first time we went, they had a serve yourself soda fountain and they since got rid of it and sell soda in bottles and cans. They do still have a self-serve water station. My one son has major allergies so we spoke to the chef and he came back out to recommend the dishes he can have. It was great that he did so and gave us confidence that my son would be able to eat without worrying too much about the ingredients. I ordered the Shrimp Kalamakia with a side of the Greek Rice. My son with the allergies ordered the Pork Kalamakia with Greek Rice and no pita, my other son ordered the Traditional Pork Gyro with Greek Rice. The sides we ordered: Saganaki Fritters and Spanakopitakia. My son that ordered the Pork Kalamakia devoured it. He said it was tender and juicy and probably could have eaten 4 skewers. My Shrimp Kalamakia was nicely charred and seasoned, I squeezed some lemon and it provided a nice tang over the seasoning. The Lemon rice pilaf was soft and cook just right and was nicely balanced. I had one Saganaki Ball and it was delicious. My son had the Pork Gyros said it was really good and the Tzatziki sauce was creamy and rich with flavors. My in-laws bought the table desserts and I got the Baklava and my wife got Loukoumades (Greek Donuts with Nutella) and both did not disappoint. I really loved the citrus honey syrup in the Baklava. The Loukoumades had a crispy shell and nice a fluffy on the inside and the Nutella amount was perfect. This place is very good and well worth the price in my opinion. I loved the fact that they took the time to make sure my son with allergies was safe.

They have a large parking lot and (when it's warm) a nice outdoor seating area. Though, people smoke out there which makes it unpleasant for those of us not wishing to get the second-hand smoke and makes in unpleasant, so we have gone elsewhere because of this. This is January, though, so no worries about smoking near the food. We were seating it their very spacious dining room. The hostess lead us to our table as the cook (or manager) barked directions to her as to where to seat us. Other people came in after us and that same behavior didn't take place. It seemed odd, bt whatever. My wife and I were not looking for anything heavy so we both ordered soup and salad. She got the French onion soup and I the chicken noodle soup. Scratch that, I got the small cubed celery and carrot soup with a few noodles and couple pieces of chicken and a splash of broth. I guess I have to let them know that I prefer more broth in my soup because this seemed more like chicken noodle stew vs soup. She got the southwest chicken salad without corn. and I got the wedge without tomato and blue cheese and subbed in ranch instead. The wedge was huge and covered in bacon and the ranch dressing was very good (like Wingstop ranch good). Instead of a wedge, this was more of a 1/3 of a head of lettuce. It was crisp and fresh. It was very good. My wife liked her salad as well stating that it was flavorful and crisp, too. Our server was quick to refill our waters which was nice as he just did it without us ever asking (a great trait, btw). There was another server who was more of an entertainer. He would come into the dining room, dance a little and sing. Woodfire doesn't have entertainment like this; he was just happy to do his thing, and chat with the tables. It was a nice change and made the dinner more enjoyable. We paid our bill (which you can do online via a QR code on the bill) and left and the manager/owner experessed his pleasure in having us join Woodfire that evening and off we went. It's a good place with some decent options which seem to change periodically. Not sure if it's a seasonal change, but it's nice to see. Their pizza is also pretty good. The parking lot is enormous, and they have a bar area in addition to a large amount of outdoor seating. Service was quite fast as we were the one of a few tables in the dining area on a Thursday evening. The interior of the dining room fit our needs quite well with plenty of TVs all around and much more comfortable seating than you'd get at a bar. The food here feels a bit pricey, except for the pizzas which area priced very competitively. It's not too crazy compared to other options in the long grove area however and the portion sizes are fair. One of the things to remember too is that some of the ingredients here are a bit more premium and that's reflected in the price. Still, I wish there were a few more choices of value priced items, though the pricing may needed to help support all the events that they run here. With that said, they do run specials on some days of the week that are quite competitive. The food itself is not bad at all. I liked the Texas Twinkles that had a good level of savoriness and wasn't really spicy, but had a good richness and amount of fat to it. It was a little small for $13 but still enjoyable. The Woodfire BBQ Chicken Thin pizza was big enough to feed 4 and was done quite well. It's a bit on the savory side with the applewood bacon and red onion with about the right amount of cilantro and seasonings to balance everything out. It wasn't too salty or sweet, and the amount of mozzarella was just about right. The wagyu brisket platter was also quite good, with meat that was super tender and had a nice crust. I wasn't a huge fan of the cornbread, and found the baked beans and corn to be fine -- but did enjoy their version of the coleslaw. Overall, a solid choice if you're in the Long Grove area and need a spot to have a nice meal with friends. The full menu and comfortable dining room make it a pleasant spot to spend some time at (when they're not too busy).
