Upon being seated at our booth I immediately killed 2 ants and by the time we ordered, several others. The waitress moved us. My husband enjoyed his burger and I enjoyed my pot roast sandwich. I had the experience of going to Denny's outside of the Northeast. I've been to good Denny's locations & I also went to the absolute worst one ever in Savannah, GA during a road trip some years back. So you could say I do have more of a base of comparison than some might. Went to this particular Denny's this evening with higher expectations. After all, I remember going to the good ones & my husband said the breakfast was so good. Chain or not, this place is most definitely NOT "as good as it gets" especially in this area. Here's why: * Slow service: We were seated promptly and our waitress did get us water in fairly short order. However, we waited for what felt like an eternity for our appetizer. It was at least 15 minutes or so. Once we finished up, it also took a long time to get the check. My husband felt the server was trying to avoid us after my father in law had a conversation with her about the onions on his burger. I should note that only one side of the restaurant had people seated there so they were presumably operating at about half capacity. * Tiny portions: Everyone I went here with except maybe me felt like they were served too little food for too high a price (mine was $4 while theirs was at least twice as much). My husband observed that the chicken fingers that came with the appetizer were bigger than the ones he got in his over $10 order. He also felt the side portions were too tiny. This was a major complaint as we were going home. I also typically have leftovers when I go out to eat. I had NONE here. That should give you an idea about portion size. * Stale nachos: I don't know when or at what time of day Bora P. went here but I didn't like getting chewy nachos among the nachos that came with my chicken wraps, which reminded me of the basic chicken wrap I got at a Tim Horton's in Manhattan. * Arguments over food orders: My father in law ordered his burger with no onions, which the other members of my party confirmed he said. He gets his food and there's onion on it. The server tries to claim that he didn't say this and he said otherwise. Instead of letting her take it back, he chose to keep it and take off the onion but said "The taste will be ruined with the onion." Note to places that like to shove onion on everything like it was salt--it DOES ruin the taste of food to have onion all over it so when someone says "no onion," have some respect for that preference all right? If you cook it onto the food or even set it on the food, the taste permeates within it. I despise any establishment that tries to tell me that I can't get what I want if I'm paying good money to eat there & will be obligated to leave a tip. She's lucky this didn't happen to my order or my spouse's. So, in sum I had high hopes for this place that were dashed after getting my food. Contrary to what some may say, this place does not hold a candle to Friendly's. The food you get at Friendly's looks appetizing. Non-breakfast food here, not so much. While I do appreciate how the billing was done on each order & think it would be helpful if you were dining with a group and dealing with the issue of separate checks, I was disappointed. Maybe their breakfast food is better. Maybe if you go at a different time of day, you get faster service. I also like that they are open 24 hours; perhaps they get more interesting customers at night like you'd see at a Waffle House in the South. Regardless, the experience left a bad taste in my mouth & I'm annoyed that I suggested this place for dinner. Not as bad as the one in Savannah but I'd gladly take Friendly's instead since they at least put in some effort, have edible food and no server ever argued with me over how I ordered something. When we first sat down things were very disorganized at the register and we had to wait a bit to be seated. Not a good first impression. Once we were seated our waitress was quick and friendly. I highly recommend the build your own skillet. Add jalapeños! They were actually pretty spicy. Was happy they had many healthy options and you could customize everything. This place does not know how to seat people with open tables. Manager doesn't help out to get people in seats. On Veteran's Day, this should not happen and should account for more employees. My wife and I went to the Centereach Denny's for Veterans Day. It was obvious that they were understaffed and the line was out the door. I know I apologize that I don't have names to go with this review, but what well I will assume was the manager kept a smile on her face and welcomed every veteran into the building. She didn't get frustrated or overwhelmed, she was amazing! And our server was just as phenomenal, despite how busy she was she was very attentive. She did her job with a smile on her face and also thanked the veterans. The food was delicious and it was an overall excellent experience! This was by far the most disappointing breakfasts me and my husband have had in a long time. Started off waiting well over 20 minutes just for our coffees, we ordered 2 breakfast plates only to find a WHITE HAIR in my food! We left the food there because that's disgusting to complain to a manager. He proceeds to say "but did you eat anything" even after the manager said he would take HALF OFF the bill, he still charged us the FULL AMOUNT as if nothing happened! I'm giving this 5 stars solely on the basis of the manager (former chef) who, due to short staffing, took over as server, greeter, bus-person. I don't know his name, but he had such a sunny disposition despite what was probably a pressure-cooker of stress beneath the surface. These days, businesses are struggling to find workers, and a place like Denny's is probably thankless a lot of the time. We hadn't been to Dennys in a while and remember why, it was busy and short staffed . Took over 10 minutes for our server to take our beverage order and then another 10 minutes to receive our drinks. The first table we were sat at was shaky and unbalanced, we were moved upon request. We shared the pancake puppies which were hot and crispy; they were delicious. Then for our entrees they were fair to good. I had the blueberry, strawberry, banana pancake breakfast and my bf had the dulce de leche pancake breakfast. I put a 1 only because you CAN'T choose zero! It is a disaster- Every. Single. Time! Tonight, the 8 of us came out for my mom's birthday (because for some CRAZY reason she likes this place). As we were being seated, we noticed our table was disgusting, so we were halted for a second, beside the table for it to be wiped. We than sat at a wet, sticky table with chunks scattered about and streaks all over the chairs... no silverware, place settings or napkins. We then watched 2 people leave because they were waiting 20+ mins with no service. We still had no napkins, no silverware when apps arrived, and no drink refills till the tail end of the meal. And After everyone finally got all of their food (took about 10 minutes between plate drop offs) 3 people's plates were wrong/ missing things. And the place was EMPTY, at 9pm.... why is this even an issue?! And the cherry on top- This meal was supposed to be paid with a gift card we bought for her, and we come in tonight to find it has $0 on it! My sister saved her receipt and we are now sitting here waiting for them to check security cameras to see her come in and hand the woman at the counter the cash. The 8 of us have been sitting here for 2 hours now and the discussion at the table is NEVER AGAIN! We will never be coming to a Denny's ever again! We are still unsure of what occurred with the gift card, but apparently it has finally been handled and we can leave this hell! ... I will now be rethinking any gift card purchases I ever make in the future! ***Update- my mom went back the next day to retrieve the balance of her gift card l, because we left there without it as hey we're still trying to figure out what happened. Hmm... where do I begin. Upon my mom's request, I brought her here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. I have been to this Dennys before and had decent experiences and figured this would be similar. The wait was only about 6 minutes or so which was fine for a Sunday morning. We noticed many empty tables and not many staff working, although those who were seemed extremely busy. We were seated for about 10 minutes with no service of any kind. Once our server came over he took our order. While we waited for our food to come out, a few things stood out to me; the volume of the customers is loud and chaotic, lots of families with screaming babies (which you can't help but still), a server who was vacuuming away in the dining area, which was less than appetizing, and frustrated staff who seemed way too overworked. The coffee came out hot but wasn't refilled until I was about to pay. By the time our food arrived, it was warm at best. I ordered the strawberry cream pancakes with eggs and bacon. Surprisingly, the eggs were cooked to order (over medium). Biting into the frozen strawberries on top of the pancakes was probably the icing on the cake. I have to say, I didn't expect much from Dennys, but they really outdid themselves this time. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be frequenting this diner anytime soon. read more

We went to the centereach location tonight and definitely worth the extra drive from where we live. Our server Mark was very polite and was always on point. Food, drinks, extras. He made sure that we were all taken care of which I appreciate. It takes a lot to impress the guys and myself which he did! Thank you for the excellent service and our food was also great. This was by far the worst experience I have had dining out. The place was empty aside from 2 other tables and there was a ten minute wait as there were 3 employees ringing up one customer. The floor was dirty with food and straw wrappers. The tables weren't bussed the entire time we were there. The server was the only highlight. They were welcoming and when the food was wrong he took care of it right away. The kitchen took a very long time getting the order out. When leaving, we had a coupon that they would not honor because we had gotten money off for the meals coming out late and at different times...that we didn't ask for. A person calling himself the manager got into our faces and began to threaten us. "What's the problem?!" and "What are you going to do about it?!?!" Threatening my 70 year old father. I always wondered why this place's parking lot was always less hopping than IHOP's in Ronkonkoma. After one unfortunate visit, I know why. Note that this review based on an online order and pick-up as well as my personal observations while waiting (forever) for my orders. Denny's, like IHOP, has an online ordering feature that allows for you to prepay an order that, according to the website when I used it, will be ready within 20 minutes. I thought I would be a dear and order and pick up brunch for my boyfriend and a friend at Denny's instead of IHOP as it was closer and I had not had Denny's in many years, while we recently had IHOP. I ordered Moons Over My Hammy for him and his friend and the Banana Salted Caramel Pancakes for myself, with eggs over medium. I had to order his friend's food about 4 minutes after I put in our food, but the confirmation for each order said they would be ready within 20 minutes of placing. I left the house 5 minutes before the second order should have been ready. Both orders were in my name and prepaid with my card. When I arrived, it was busy but not packed. There was no one at the hostess table but some confused looking people just standing around. I was probably waiting at least 5 minutes before a young guy appeared at the host booth, not in any particular uniform. I asked about my online ORDERS (not ORDER), as the sign said to pick them up there or possibly at an abandoned table that was covered in coats with empty glasses. It was weird. The young man went back for a few more minutes and came back saying it would only be a few more moments. I sat down and waited. The 20 minutes I waited consisted of me watching this poor chap try to both ring up outgoing customers and seat incoming customers seated as group after group began to come in, half of which were turned off by the disorganized chaos and left. A woman spent 10 minutes paying out of 8 different envelopes while customers continued to file almost out the door just to pay for their meals. All the while I have no one to talk to about my missing food. After 45 total minutes of waiting (20 at home, 25 there), it supposedly came, sitting at that aforementioned tabled covered in people's stuff. But I got home to realize they only have me one of my orders; our friend's food was missing. I had to drive back up there and speak to a manager about this, as not only was I delayed a ridiculous amount of time, the order was not properly completed. After much waiting, an irate and tired manager emerged, demanding to know which one of us poor confused customers asked for her. I politely noted it was me and it was because they forgot one of my online order meals, and because my food was clearly getting cold and this was a big screw up (mind you, I had to PREPAY for this food), I asked for compensation. First she handed me the food which was sitting on the hostess desk, again not in a designated area as there was no clear organization. When I asked for compensation, she took back the food and said that would not be fair, as I should have noted I had two separate orders, and how could her two cooks in the back know I had two orders, and half her staff called out, and 3 orders came in between my two orders...She ranted quite a bit while I kept trying to remind her that it was THEIR duty to make sure orders were completed timely (they were not) and properly (also not) and their obvious failures and situations were not my fault. She victimized herself and accused me of interrupting her listing of all her reasons for why she should not take care of me as a customer. She continued to treat me like a grinch and talk down to me like a child. After my umpteenth attempt to remind her that I was the paying customer who was not satisfied with their service, she shoved the food at me and said fine, no charge, have a nice day. I said great thanks, and started to leave, assuming that like everywhere else, the refund would be done electronically. Apparently she had to do something with the register at the hostess desk and coyly stated, "Don't you want your refund that you were demanding?" That took about 5 minutes. All the while, no one is being taken care of in terms of seating or paying. As my friend's food began to cool, I told her I'd rather leave before we have another cold meal on their hands, to that she pulled out a 10 dollar bill finally from the register. The meal was $10.56 but I just left, completely shocked and perturbed. I give this place 2 stars on Yelp because the food itself was decent, although the eggs were not over medium but over easy, and the sandwiches were sad and looked nothing like the photos. The pancakes were large dry and needed more salted caramel syrup. The bananas and cream were also decent. I will never return though, to order or sit down. Sticking with IHOP. read more

I love Denny's and wanted to love this Denny's as it's the only one we have. However, I cannot like a place that has never gotten our complete order right, has served under cooked or over cooked something each time, serves grits that aren't, has the refuse of too many prior visitors under the tables, left a smelly carpet sweeper leaning against the table across from us through a meal, and has not done anything to correct itself despite several complaints, even to corporate. If your place is bad, and I tell you it is, and your answer is free coupons to come back, and you haven't fixed any of the problems when I do...twice..you need to rethink the business you are in. read more

Honestly, I really dont get why this place has such a low rating.. Its a chain restaurant, and for a chain I think it gets the job done. They have a huge menu with a wide variety of things that would satisfy ANYONE, even the pickiest eater. I love the way the payments are set up (only when they dont mix up who got what though..) Which makes it easier to split the checks, convenient! The zesty nachos here, so. good. Dont knock it til youve tried it. Mmmm I want some now .. too bad theres no Dennys in queens :'( Everything else is also really good, Im not a real big fan of breakfast foods but I dont really mind going to Dennys :D Also, the wait staff is awesome. Worst dining experience we've had yet. We got there and there was a 5-10min wait. At 10am on a holiday, no problem at all I would've expected more. As we were being sat the girl who sat us snapped at us when we said we thought a lot of places would be closed on 4th of july and said "We'll I've worked in the food industry in a lot of places and I always work the 4th of July because the kids call in sick so a lot of places are open". The restaurant wasn't filled but it took us 15 minutes to place our drink order. Our waitress was less than friendly. As soon as she came back with our drinks we placed our food order figuring we could eat and spend the rest of the day outside. 45 minutes later we had to flag down the waitress to ask her where our food was. We ordered an omelet, 2 pancakes, hash browns and cheese quesadullas. She came back and told us the food would be right out, that they were plating it right now. 5 minutes later she came back and said it would be ready in ten minutes. Really, Why did I come here again? I remember going to Denny's my first time in Florida while I was partying at the clubs and then getting something to eat at Denny's. Breakfast tasted so good at that time. Also known as " The Cloudy Years". When this place opened up I said why not try it because of the memories I had. Those memories are going to stay memories for me. I get better food from Eggo's and all frozen breakfast meals from the supermarket. What was I thinking trying to re-live my youth? This is an overdue review about an outrageous customer service experience I had at this Denny's. My group and I came after our event at around 11:30-midnight on a Sunday night (it's open 24 hours). There was no trouble finding seats or with the food, but the problem came up during the payment of the bill. Denny's staff informed us that they had already broken up our bill individually based on our seating (not a problem, we were a large group), however, at the register, I decided to pay for a friend's meal along with my own. Her bill came up to roughly $14 which I had paid with a fifty dollar bill. My friend had hugged me at the cash register to show her gratitude. I had then noticed that the manager had shortchanged me $20 and she had never given me my receipt back (the rest of my party had), and since I hadn't put away the change and I was still standing by the cash register with the change in my hand, I would say that I had politely brought up to the manager behind the cash register that she may have shortchanged me and asked to see my receipt. However, I would say that her response and attitude was the worst that I could have imagined. She had immediately brushed off my words and without checking the possibility of her actions with a rude and rather suspicious, "I gave you the right change, I do not have a $20 bill in my register, the $20 bill was on top of the pile in your hand, you must have dropped it when you were hugging your friend, I don't know, go look around the floor." My friend (more inflamed with her than I was by her attitude) noticed a camera right behind the register and asked if the footage may have been caught. Another manager walked over, and before myself or my friend could say anything, the manager immediately told her that it was my fault for losing the money and for being irresponsible. At the end of all this, we were informed that they could not count the money in the register to see if there did happen to be an extra $20 because their head manager was not there, they can not give me my receipt because it wasn't there and they could not check the camera to see if anything did happen at the cash register. They did tell us to leave a phone number so that the head manager can get back to us with any updates the next day (never happened). It wasn't the fact that she could have had the possibility of shortchanging me that was the issue, but it was the unprofessional way that she had handled it. I honestly do not think I had said or done anything to prompt her to humiliate me. I wished I had remembered her name. But despite this review, I would like to thank the Denny's staff and service prior to the incident. It was comfort food for a late night, and my group did have a good time. My wife and I tried them for the first time for breakfast not too long ago. From start to finish, this place absolutely blows. We were seated at a fairly dirty table....there were crumbs that remained when they made some sort of a pass at it with a dirty dishrag. I finished cleaning it myself....the food was lousy and not prepared as we had ordered...and the toast? Ah, yes, the toast....it had been sitting under a heat lamp somewhere in the back for hours! I want to give Dennys 5 stars. Really I do. Because it's a great All-American place to eat with great choices for breakfast-lunch-dinner and they have some great fit and fare choices for less than 550 calories. Plus they have kids eat free Thursdays which is awesome. Their prices are great on everything. But last night there was a long wait, my silverware cleanliness was not 100% up to snuff (however it was replaced by a friendly manager), and I had to ask for my Gluten Free English Muffin that was supposed to come with my Tilapia Ranchero, three times. I finally got it after I finished my whole dinner so it was basically "dessert". What it comes down to though is like another reviewer says you have to review in context to the kind of place you are eating at. And I'd take Dennys over an overpriced mom and pop diner any day.
