The waitress Gaby could have cared less about her customers and was more interested in giving away free food to her friends and chatting with them. The food itself was greasy and overcooked. Big mistake. I can see why this place has horrible reviews. Not that you should expect much from Dennys but at the same time no one wants a place full of grease! Not only that they gave me the wrong drink and were out of sliced turkey, instead of telling me, the customer, they decided to make a sandwich with Hugh dry chunks of old roasted turkey. Literally disgusting. The service and management here is horrible. I truly cannot believe that the corporate office has not read these reviews and stepped in. Three of us had breakfast this morning. I always get the chicken fried steak and eggs...it is always good. This morning, it came out cold and not juicy at all...very little gravy as well. Came in tonight on impulse and wasn't disappointed. The service from Linda was fast and she was extremely sweet. I also spoke briefly in passing by with the manager Miriam and I felt the hospitality and over all respect shown from everyone here tonight was spectacular. Came to this place cause it looked kinda "Classic" on the outside, but not so much on the inside. It had outdated grandma pajama striped wallpaper. There was no hostess to greet you when you first walk in. When guided to be seated I felt weird walking into an awkwardly rounded room, with booths all around. Also went to restroom and it was filthy. Stank too!! The service was not great either. Had three different people come to our table. When you walk in, you have to guide yourself to the "circular room" where all the other guest's have the view of you walking in as you make your grand entrance. It's was just weird and uncomfortable. They offered us two seperate booths because they didn't have tables big enough to seat 7. My table was dirty and still wet from a sloppy wipe down. Gross. The guy that seated us took our drink order without writing it down which is always impressive but not this time. He kept coming back to our table to ask us what we ordered over and over and then when he finally left, he came back with the wrong drinks -_- We ordered an appetizer that came AFTER our food got to the table and as we were finishing up, they brought an order of hush puppies that I had to ask for again. My son wiped them off so we didn't have to look at it while we ate. Then, my son looked down at his water glass as he was taking a drink and he noticed his glass had dried green stuff on the inside. We asked the server for another, which he never brought. I had to get up and ask him later. After the water glass, we almost got up to leave...we were pretty grossed out and not feeling good about what our meal might be. As we were getting up, our water walked in with our food. My greens were warm and wilted. It was a spring mix and there were black, slimy pieces I started picking out. I was really going to try to eat it because I was hungry! I thought I could pluck out the offending pieces and choke it down. There were just too many. I went and got the general manager who was so unapologetic, it was a trip! He even shrugged his shoulders and said, "So you don't want it?" Uh, noooooo. My daughter said she'd share her veggies with me. I grabbed a piece of celery and it was covered in DIRT. I kid you not. My husband had had it at that point. He grabbed another filthy piece of celery, marched over to the lame GM, took a napkin and wiped the dirt off the celery and said, "This is what you're feeding my daughter." Gross. He came back to the table, told us we were leaving and threw $20 on the table, which I thought was waaay to much as the only thing eaten was my husband's chicken sandwich. My dear wife Pat has a favorite saying when she sees reviews like the disgruntled ones here; "People will complaint, even if they are hung with a new rope" In the case of this particular Denny's, we have been going there for Sunday breakfast (very crowded and busy) for a few years now. Every single time, we have been very pleased with service and the quality of the food (not to say the same about other Denny's). Jose, the manager, keeps his crew working happily and effectively, even when extremely busy. The food always arrives hot and nice, even when we make changes to the order. So, all and all, this is an exceptional Denny's to go to. Off course, on a weekday, it's a lot less crowded, but on Sundays if it's very busy, there is a reason why. i think the denneys in dana point is exceptionally well run by the male hispanic manager. sorry that i do not know his name. he is outstanding and so is his crew. they work very hard and are always busy, thorough and kind. it does not get better. the food is also good american food and is fresh as there is a great turnover. the people acknowledge one's presence when one enters, even if they are full, and give you an immediate estimate of a wait time. what more could one ask? thank you to you dennys and your staff read more
