Overcooked or burnt food with little care by waitstaff. The cook needs to look at the menu so he might see how the food should look. I ordered the Ultimate Omelette but stated that the eggs needed to be runny. Of course that can't be done on an omelette but the server was clueless and immediately began writing down my order before I finished speaking. I stated that I'd never expect that and so to make it easy on the cook, I said that they could just turn it into a scramble so the eggs wouldn't be too cooked but expressed that eggs with brown on them would be a tabu. My easy scramble came out with rubbery, overcooked eggs and there definitely was not three eggs. My brother ordered his eggs sunny side up and they came out near bubbling and were black around the edges. Hash browns were generous but had black all over them and were not golden brown like in the menu, still raw in the middle with no flavour other than dirty grill. I told the server that I was worried that the young cook wouldn't know how to, just cook the food because I suspected he wouldn't be able to keep up with the hot grill and clearly, he didn't. The woman behind us ordered the T-Bone Slam, medium rare and I after the server left, I admitted to her that I easedropped and that her steak would likely be well-done --- it was well done but not done very well because it wasn't as she ordered. I never send back meals and couldn't have anyway because the server didn't ask how everything was until we had finished. The cook messed up the order and the server should have never brought it out. The last time we did breakfast at Denny's was two years ago and it was the same but not as bad as Ruperts and Hermosa Grill both, where are really bad with exception to the poached eggs at Ruperts which are usually perfect but don't expect service there either. Seems that for breakfast in Durango, the clear choice is The Durango Diner or Oscars. Denny's is especially disappointed because it's the only major chain diner in a town where major chains are not encouraged. Upon paying, we weren't asked how the meal was and I suspect that it wouldn't have mattered if they had. I used to travel 21-days a month for a living and Denny's was my standard and I'd eat there once a week, minimum. I loved it because it was consistent and always satisfying and if that's what you're expecting, it will not at Denny's Durango. Worst $40 (with tip) I've spend in since eating at Ruperts last when they wouldn't order my gift card and served a worse meal. I see a lot of five star ratings for Denny's and even Ruperts and so maybe I'm the oddball out but you've been warned by a customer having two bad breakfasts in a row. read more

After riding round trip train to Silverton we were looking forward to a good American meal. Close by to the train station, this Denny's fit the bill. Ordered Bacon Avocado cheeseburger with onion rings and a Salmon Salad your way with avocado. The burger had a generous amount of avocado and hamburger meat was cooked loosely, a nice change from the usual puck. Standard Dennys. Solid breakfast for the money. I normally get an omelet at each location. They make it to my specifications.

We had a short wait to be seated on a busy Sunday morning. The kids enjoyed pancakes. One had the birthday pancakes, and the others enjoyed the chocolate chip ones. I had an omelette with lots of bacon, a few spinach leaves , a few mushrooms, and was basically devoid of Swiss Cheese. The hash browns and English muffins were fine. The other person on our party had a western omelette and enjoyed it. The kiddos had orange juice and the grown ups had the last 2 glasses of tomato juice left in the house. The food was ok. The health and safety could use some major overhaul. We had to wait and sit on benches that everyone before us had sat on. No cleaning. Masks weren't really enforced and yet dirty college girls allowed to walk in and eat and leave without being asked to put shoes on. What happened to minimum standards of no shoes, no shirt, no service!! I couldn't enjoy my food. It's true, the coffee isn't anything special and it tastes like regular diner coffee. But this is the best breakfast value in town at $5.99, the everyday value slam. Two eggs, hash browns, toast and meat option. I also have to mention, I'm gluten free and the GF English muffin was amazing - in fact the best GF bread I've had in a long time. The food is eh when sober and wildly incredible when drunk. It's ALWAYS dirty in here though. No matter what time of day you go it's always sticky and gross. Which i guess is just Dennys. I was surprised when Husband said he wanted "Denny's" on the last night of our vacation. I was also a bit leery after seeing the reviews. Now I am more shocked to be giving it 5 stars & this place deserves it. From the moment we entered we were treated kindly. Our food was very, very good. Chief, our server, was professional & friendly. Hubby's sandwich knocked him off his feet. He had a Big Dipper Melt with au jus and swears it's the best he's ever had. (He tours and eats all over the world, so this comment is pretty impressive. He even told the waiter that he couldn't believe he was saying it.). This location is by far the cleanest and most professional I've been in. Every member of the staff was helpful, friendly, and sometimes both. I am not sure I have ever been in another Denny's (or any other chain, for that matter) that's as nice as this one. I am glad I decided to skip the reviews and go here. We were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful service given by Mandi W. - five star service! She kept up with all of our requests and did it with a smile. We came here for breakfast on our way through Durango. Busy location but only a 5 minute wait for seating. I got the red white and blue (not sure of the actual name but it had blueberry pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream with cream cheese frosting, eggs, bacon and hash browns). Service was great (We had Trey as our server.)!! I ordered the pancakes without frosting and they remembered. Plenty of coffee refills and money saving tips.
