Denny's. We've all been there. It's freezing. The staff is tired and has seen some things, and the food tastes like it started life three states away. Everything was sticky and the whole place had a bit of a musty smell. This one isn't as cold as normal and the food was just ok, but it's still basic diner food without the kitschy charm. I have been coming to this Denny's for years - as long as it's been here. They are my comfort food restaurant, my Grand Slam on my birthday party place, my go to meeting place when catching up with friends. They are consistently good and the food is exactly what I expect and want. Breakfast is my favorite meal, but lunch and dinner are good, too. Today (11/16/20) I met a friend I had not seen since before the pandemic. We were seated more than 6 feet away from others, and all employees were masked. Our waitress was sweet and helpful. We each had the small slam - pancakes, bacon and eggs. When we paid, we got our AARP discount, so this filling, delicious meal was a bargain. My aunt was soooo excited to order a waffle from Dennys tonight. We both ordered the waffle combo. The server failed to mention they are frozen sugar waffles. They were dense and gross. My aunt suggest maybe she should let people know the waffles are not fresh but frozen. The server okay we can't take it off your bill. That was not what was asked or said. We were both very disappointed. It was not about the money because after the women there voided what was said. The manager said most people complain and want something for free. The meal was already paid for and money was not brought up once. Just thought it would be a good idea to let people know. She didn't even eat hers and I ate mine because after being on the beach all day I was hungry & im not much of a complainer. Definitely not what you would expect. Rude service. I believe they could have atleast exchanged for pancakes or something after realizing the whole plate sat there. I think this Denny's location does a real solid job. Service is fast and online ordering is quick and efficient. The order was ready for pickup in the estimated time and they got the order right. I got the Grand Slam and it was just like I remembered. The eggs were a nice sunny side up without being over cooked, the bacon was nice and crispy, and the hash browns had a nice crispy edge to them. The best part was the pancakes. Denny's always has some great pancakes. Gigantic and incredibly fluffy, I love how they soak up the syrup without becoming soggy and falling apart. A great compliment to the rest of the meal. I ordered delivery but called the restaurant to make sure of some things. 1. No American sauce on it 1009 island instead. Well I got it delivered WITH American sauce and my dressing on the side. I'm done with Denny's restaurants. From now on, I'll stick to "hole in the wall" and "greasy spoon" restaurants where they actually appreciate their customers. I've been to Denny's restaurants all over the country and they are very consistent. Identical menus and the same lackluster service everywhere you go. Customer service has been lacking at every Denny's I have visited in the past twenty-five years. I'm a coffee drinker and when I'm paying almost 3 dollars for something that costs the restaurant less than 30 cents I expect to have coffee in my cup at all times. (My friends like to warn servers that their tip is dependent on my coffee cup; if my cup goes empty, so does the tip jar.) Denny's servers are friendly enough, but they tend to ignore their customers unless taking or delivering orders. If you need anything else you need to flag down an employee which can be difficult because they like to pretend they don't see you. read more

We were out running errands on a Saturday morning and decided to get breakfast. The diner was pretty quiet when we arrive at about 8:30am, which surprised us because if we were going out for breakfast in Palm Harbor of Clearwater it would have been packed. It filled up while we were there so we must have been one step ahead of the crowd, which was good for us. I am not a big breakfast fan as I don't really like eggs, so I always go with other things like a BLT or a breakfast burrito. The cool thing I was able to do at Denny's was to create my own grand slam. I went with double hash browns, jalapeno honey bacon and a fruit cup. The jalapeno honey bacon is new and it was wonderful! My husband ordered the lumberjack slam. It basically comes with everything. Tons of food. The best thing about our visit was the hash browns. They were cooked perfectly! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Some diner cooks can't get the right level of crispiness and it is a huge pet peeve to both of us. I have been an employee and loved Denny's for over 2 decades. Every experience has been positive till.....1st visit, my boyfriend and I gave our names, correct spelling, and numerous people were seated before us. We walked out. The manager came outside and offered a free meal....no thanks. 2nd visit (after a few months), everything was perfect. Gave the server a $9 cash tip (she was great)on $29.37 meal bill. Cash now is better than a card tip later. Final receipt $29.37 ( from cashier)....account billed (pending, and better be fixed) $35.24. I don't need to say anymore.....but I'm Not Done. Dennys is another chain like Perkins or Waffle house. It has breaststroke all day & evening. They also have soups, salads, sandwiches & meals. I can't say I am particularly partial or that 1 thing stands out. To play it safe I usually stick to breakfast & desserts. The desserts, to me are their best menu items. They are useless except for two things: 1) Really good breakfasts any morning you don't feel like cooking. 2) Really awesome breakfasts any time after midnight. I couldn't tell you a single thing about any of Denny's regular food. Not their burgers, not their salads or sandwiches. I have no clue about their soup. And while they look delish, I've never eaten one of their desserts. However, I have their entire breakfast menu memorized and committed to heart. Any Denny's you go to is going to have the same stuff. There is really no difference between Denny's, nothing to make one stand out over the other in terms of food. However, some have better cooks than others and some are definitely cleaner than others. This Denny's is one of the clean ones. What always surprises me is when people rate a Denny's on Yelp, they act like they are tragically disappointed, like they were expecting to eat at the Four Seasons with white glove service and a Michelin rated chef. It's DENNY'S, for heck's sake. And, to take pot shots at what people are wearing, how their hair and make up looks and making fun of their profession...it's just tacky and classless. You want to complain about food or service, knock yourself out. But when you decide to utilize Yelp as your only way to have some passive aggressive fun at the expense of others, well, your opinion no longer matters. All I know is that any time I have come to this Denny's location, the food is always hot. The coffee is always hot. The people are generally friendly, so long as they are not dealing with the antics of your random 17 year olds making a mess, hurling spitballs around at each other or carrying on like some newly freed chimps from the zoo. April H. was our server to our party of six and she was quite lovely. We did have a dirty, stained mug which she promptly swapped out without having to be asked. She brought more than adequate amounts of ketchup, creamers and syrup to the table. We were being a big loud and rambunctious, hyped up from a concert my son had just performed in but she remained polite and even laughed with us. She's wearing a red Sarah Palin esque power suit, her face looks as if it hasn't been washed in days and... Her long nails were all filled with black dirt and debri. I mean...
