Came here after a long day at Yosemite and had the worst experience. Our waitress and the manager were pretty passive aggressive with not only customers but other employees. We were not told there'd be a double charge for cheese and they didn't take care of us. I'd understand if they were swamped but there were 2 other tables when we were there. The table behind us never got there food the entirety of us being there and they just got up and left. Overall, the food wasn't great and the service was unprofessional and quite rude. This Denny's is terrible. The owners don't care about what you think because Oakhurst is a tourist town. All the tourists will continue to go and spend their money there because they don't know any better. Even with terrible reviews and a very strong local opinion that this Denny's is probably one of the very worst, if not the worst restaurants in Oakhurst. I would choose a sandwich from a gas station over a free meal at Oakhurst Denny's. First off, if you want good breakfast food go to Pete's Place. This is the worst Dennys I have ever been to. I had horribly slow service, couldn't get my drinks refilled, waited an eternity to get my food, and overall was horribly dissatisfied. I went later in the evening, and considering it's a small town there aren't many options for late night dining, but I would recommend McDonald's, Burger King, Jack in the box, or taco bell before going here. At least at the fast food places you get your food -fast-. And it's sad to say you are more likely to enjoy your food there also. read more

The unfortunate thing about each Denny's restaurant having a different franchise owner is that some Denny's restaurants are good and others are, to put it kindly, not so good. This one is definitely not so good, and here's why: First, the service is on the mediocre side - not terrible, but not the greatest, either. This includes the fact that we waited a fairly long time to get our food, even though the restaurant was by no means crowded - maybe only 1/3 of capacity, if that. Plus, our table had some sticky residue left on it after its previous wiping, requiring a request to have it wiped down again. Second, and more important, the food was a huge disappointment. Denny's menu looks fantastic; sadly, our food bore little resemblance to the items pictured on the menu. I ordered the South by Southwest Skillet, which the menu describes as "crumbled chorizo sausage, sautéed mushrooms and fire-roasted bell peppers and onions blended together with seasoned red-skinned potatoes on a sizzlin' hot skillet. Topped with grilled seasoned chicken breast, shredded Cheddar cheese and Pepper Jack queso." When my skillet arrived, it was not sizzling, and the portion size was quite noticeably less than what was pictured on the menu. The potatoes and vegetables were overdone, there were few mushrooms and onions, and the peppers were missing entirely - pretty underwhelming stuff. The whole thing had been liberally doused with queso sauce, so that the end result had a homogeneous, though spicy, flavor with little to no nuance. My wife had the avocado chicken Caesar salad. It contained only a few slices of avocado, some of which were crunchy. This dismal fare ended up costing us $22 - steep, in my opinion, for such lackluster offerings. read more

By far the worst service I could have ever experienced. Came here on 4/10/15 at midnight and the server was rude, obnoxious, and when I questioned him he threatened to box my food up and tell us to leave. I would not recommend anyone to come here to spend their money. If I could give no stars I would. Just a waste of my time to come here and he gave Denny's s bad name. Stayed away from the Oakhurst Denny's for over a year due to poor service. Tried it this morning and the service was decent and the food was okay. I had a seasonal breakfast with pancakes, eggs, hash browns and bacon. I noticed that the serving size on the eggs and hash browns were small, the pancakes and bacon were a decent size. I had ice tea which is the normal everyday chain restaurant ice tea. My mother had a skillet breakfast and she said it was good, I did notice that her toast was only buttered in a small area along the cut. The server was friendly and told us that they were told the two nearby h/motels were fully booked for Christmas week, so they expected to be busy. I noticed three servers rather than just one as it was on previous visits, hopefully they will keep having enough servers and improve their menu since Denny's is such a recognizable brand name. read more

Service was awful. Feta cheese was spoiled, smelled awful and had to get a different meal. Waitress kept telling everyone the kitchen was backed up, but why did the kitchen have anything to do with getting water refills. Been standing in line for 10 minutes. The lady behind the cash register seems to be having a little difficulty with running the register. The entire front of the house is open and there is still a 5 minute wait to be seated. Several Denny's employees keep telling the people waiting that "their sorry for the wait", yet we're still standing here and not being seated yet. I totally understand that if employees don't show up for their shift and falling behind, but at least let people sit and bring them a drink. Waited 15 minutes without a hostess coming to seat us, ended up having to directly ask an employee whether we had to seat ourselves or not after making eye contact with them multiple times. Hostess finally seated us and was really rude when seating us. Walked up, grabbed our menus and said "follow me" then threw them on our table and walked away. Multiple customers after us ended up grabbing menus and seating themselves due to no one coming to seat them after 15-20 minutes, to which the hostess gave them rude replies and made snide comments. My husband and I have eaten here once before. The service and food was decent. Tonight was a different story. We showed up to be told it would be a 30 minute wait for seating. We said ok, 2 couples that were together were waiting before us and they decided to move on. We waited maybe 20 minutes to be sat. Then another 15 minutes at the table waiting to have our order taken when The restaurant had maybe 5 tables seated. The moment I told my husband to ask for the check and well go somewhere else, server Chris came in and apologized for the wait since someone switched the seating plan on him. Which during those 15 minutes, he walked past us at least 6 times and not a single word to us. Then he kept giving us awkward glances and then finally came up to us. We went and had amazing burgers at Jack in the Box instead. read more

Let's be honest, the only reason why anyone comes here is because it's on the way back from Yosemite or bass lake. Please just take my advice and keep driving straight. This is by far the worst Denny's franchise I have been too. After waiting 15 minutes alone just for out drinks to be brought out, it took another 45 minutes to get our food. The food was cold, undercooked, and even found a band aid inside of an omelette. .5/10 would never stop by this sketchy looking Denny's ever again. Wonderful experience 3 times over a 3 day stay nearby. I'm not sure if the bad reviews are really warranted or if they've made some staff changes lately (there are "Now Hiring" signs posted in several places). We dined in 2x for breakfast - had the same server both times, Leticia - and she was wonderful. She remembered exactly what the kids ordered, we had some special requests and she was happy to accommodate. Food was hot and while it took a little longer than average, the excellent service made up for that. We ordered take out one night and my son wanted an Oreo milkshake. The man we spoke with apologized and said they were out of Oreos. I mentioned we could always get Oreos out of our hotel vending machine and add them ourselves. He said if we wanted to bring the Oreos with us to pick up our order, he would wait on the milkshake and add the Oreos for us. He also said he'd upsize to a large and only charge us for the kids' size for our inconvenience. I'm not sure you could ask for much better customer service! read more

I've driven all across the country and I can honestly say without trying to be mean, but to warn everyone instead, that this is one of the worst Denny's in the entire country! . I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first two times I went there thinking since i work in restaurants I know how it goes when a restaurant is GROSSLY UNDERSTAFFED and how it really negatively effects service. Well guess what I finally realized after the third visit, the owner/management does this on purpose! This is what happened every time I went here; btw, the server is also the host who is also the cashier at the register and there is only one server, maybe two if one is on a lunch break. You get there and get a seat, wait 10-20 minutes before the server comes to get a drink order in like plain orange juice or black coffee. Now you really wait another 20 minutes before you get your drink or coffee-yep it took over a half hour from when I walked in until I got a coffee, and there are only on average 5-15 customers in the entire restaurant, so you can't say they were at all busy. The person behind me was so annoyed with being out of coffee that he kept banging a spoon on the coffee cup annoying everyone around him. Finally we get a food order in, and wait another half hour until we got our food because the owner is obviously too cheep to pay for more then one cook at a fair salary who can cook more then 1 order at a time. At least the food was consistent with the other Denny's so that part was ok. When cashing out it took another 10 minutes to pay and when paying with credit card, it expects you to put a tip on there, which is the one time I've ever eaten in a sit-down restaurant where no staff member made the slightest effort to earn it, which I can confidently say considering I have either cooked, served, or bartended in restaurants for the last 25 years. read more

Our server Candice singlehandedly earned these 5 stars! She went above and beyond our expectations, and we loved how nice and courteous the service was. She was the ONLY server on shift and still managed to rock the lunch shift with a smile on her face! Sorry to say but this is one too many stars for location. Should have read the reviews before. Walked in and waited for about 3 min till someone came out from the kitchen, still didn't greet us. A gentleman was waiting to pay but told them to seat us and other people waiting, guy was surprised and said oh yeah. After being seated we waited for about 10 min. Noticed all the staff standing around and talking. We decided to just walk out and go somewhere else. As we walk out they decide to ask if we are ready ! Worst Denny's I have been to. Reasons: it's DIRTY. When you walk in you will notice the dirty walls immediately. While eating, we observed kitchen employees eating food with their hands in the work areas, picking their ears in the work areas, chit chatting in the work areas, and drinking from cups in the work area- hands were NOT washed after eating, drinking or eat picking. When I have them an appalled look they really didn't Ben care and went about their behaviors. Service is SLOW. We ordered very simplistic things (salad, nachos, a burrito) and it took far too long when we were only one of three total tables being served in the entire restaurant. Pretty sure the other two tables had been served before we got there too so I can't imagine what the hold up was. Servers are RUDE. When I ordered a Caesar salad (which the menu describes as having bacon, cheese, lettuce, maybe tomatoes, and dressing) the waitress asked me if I wanted chicken or prime rib- meats were almost five additional dollars on top of the 9 dollars for my lettuce and bacon. I told her I didn't want and meat and she continued to push it and looked at me like something was wrong with me. She then said "so no additional protein at all.....?" And I then pointed to what I wanted to order and told her I only want what is in the regular salad. She finally accepted this, but when she delivered our meals she made some other odd comment about how I was "eating light". It really isn't her business what I eat and I felt judged by her comments. It's not consistently good nor bad. I've had days where they are on it and others where I'm waiting needlessly. The table next to us has not been bussed, it took 15 minutes to see a waitress by which time my family was ready to order and almost 7 minutes later we got our drinks. I was admittedly snappy with the server, but when I see her chatting with the table across from us who already have food I get frustrated. Our server was actually very nice... the food not so much. Coffee that was only warm. Reheated Fries of maybe they stayed under the warmer too long? Burnt chicken strips. My chicken bacon quesadilla was swimming in grease. No lie. Wish I had a photo. Now I've ordered this at various other Dennys which was always always always bomb and never laying in a pool of grease. My dads plate was pretty similar situation although he had an omelette. To be fair most other dennys are pretty alright... this one not at all. We were all starving from spending the day at Yosemite so food is food lol but our taste buds were pretty let down. read more

Denny's seems to raise eyebrows in many areas and conversations. This Denny's, however is good, lively and the food is quite alright. Also, the Value Menu is great for a midweek breakfast or lunch break and a good place to go if you don't want to go out to the lake. The pancakes are wonderful and can compete with some other local restaurants. The waitstaff is very efficient even when busy. Our waiter, Christopher, was calm, cool, and collected, as all the staff were, and very efficient. read more

After a 15 mile hike in Yosemite, I was starving so I stopped in this Denny's. I was greeted by management and seated immediately, even though the place seemed busy. The young lady serving my friends and I was amazing and prompt with checking on our table and bringing our food out quickly! I had the ultimate omelette and it was SO good. The store was clean and I really enjoyed the vibe of the staff. Fast and friendly service! Two thumbs up! read more
