We ate at Denny's yesterday as one of the stops on our road trip. The food and service was pretty good! I had the bacon, avocado, cheese burger and I was really impressed. Our server was new, but she was very polite, and didn't hesitate to ensure that she had the order right. I really appreciated that. My daughter had the chicken tenders and grapes. I had a little bite of hers, and I was again impressed. My wife had the buffalo wings, and they were pretty comparable to Chili's (good thing). This Denny's location was by far the worst food experience I've had at their restaurants. While the waitress service provided by crystal was exceptional, I could not say the same for the person she referred to as her manager. Complete lack of respect for the work environment and her employees. In regards to my food experience, when my plate arrived I asked that my hash browns be cooked a little more. After 8-10min my plate returned with the same exact hash browns. I was told it would be 10min longer to toast them longer. I was offered a separate order which I accepted. Okay, so we all know what to expect when stopping at Denny's, breakfast all the time, Mediocre coffee, average service, somewhat clean facilities, right? What you don't know and I certainly didn't expect was hearing a microwave door slam as the cook heated up my sent back stone cold grits. They were so awful but extremely burn your mouth hot. Really, microwave grits? Lazy cook. This is our second time at this location and so next time we pass through we will not be stopping there again. The waitress was friendly but speechless when she asked if the grits were hot enough and I answered her yes, I heard the microwave door slam! Well it's the truth, I didn't have her take it off the ticket because honestly, that extra .99, isn't squat considering for me and my bf, it usually runs about $25, which they just lost next time we are in the area. read more

Terrible service from the start. They seated us in a reasonable time. Took a long time before addressing either table then they took drink order for one but not the other. We asked the server that took the first table drink order of both tables were combined due said yes but walked away. We asked another server if we could receive service but no response. They charged twice what was advertised and made a tasteless joke on how part of our order, biscuits and gravy, was a joke because they are not McDonald's. The service was terrible. The waitress made a mistake, and when we pointed it out she got defensive and flat-out lied. She brought a side salad when it was supposed to be a full-sized salad. When we asked her if it was a mistake, she claimed that "only the Cranberry and Caesar salads come on larger plates" and that the salad we received was indeed a full-sized salad. Which was NOT true, which we confirmed with another waitress. When we told the manager all of this she simply brushed it off and said that "she can sometimes be that way." The manager did change the price of the salad to be cheaper but I think it's ridiculous that we had to pay for it at all after the waitress flat-out lied to us, and I think it's really unprofessional for the manager to just brush it off so lightly. Besides that mistake, my sandwich was small considering it was $10, and the fries were soggy and not very hot. In addition we both got cups of soup and mine wasn't filled all the way. I can't say enough good about this location. Stopped for lunch on a Thursday. Was impressed with cleanliness, including men's room. Staff very friendly and helpful. Waitress got me my patty melt even though they are no longer on the menu. Great I-25 exit for gas. Enjoyed the stop, and it's a nicer exit for food than Trinidad. The nachos we ordered looked worse than something you would buy at a theater and only had a handful of chips a small spoon of meat. Not thing like the picture, and definitely not worth $9.95. My family and I passed through on our way to Colorado, and wished we chose somewhere else to eat. Coffee was horrible. My sister's apple juice had white particles floating in it. My family and I were traveling from Colorado Springs to San Antonio, so Raton is a stopping point for us to eat and stretch our legs. This time, we actually wanted to get out of the car and eat, so we went to Denny's for lunch. Horrible! You are better going next door or across the street. We waited for almost 5 minutes before we were even seated. (Oh, they saw us standing there, but said or did nothing) Next, was the nastiness in the bathroom, one stahl was clogged and had toilet paper with feces on it, gross!! Second, it was so hot in there, we could hardly breath. I didn't even want my children to wash their hands so I gave them some of my Purrell to clean up with. (I secretly wanted to bath them in it after that). Once we finally got to a table and waited for our food to come (30 minutes later!!) they actually intended to charge us for the Prime Rib Cobb Salad after I asked for no Prime Rib and no bacon. C'mon, I am not going to pay 9.29 for a salad when I can get almost the exact same at McDonalds for half the price. I felt bad for the father and his 2 kids that sat in front of us. After waiting for 20 minutes they were told that the kitchen had ran out of food that they ordered! They left, lucky them...we were already committed so we had to stay. Worse experience ever. This location has been remodeled recently. It is clean and comfortable. The food was wonderful. We ordered a Fried Chicken Cobb salad and Zesty Nachos. Both had fresh ingredients and tasty dressings/ salsa. The restrooms were clean. The host staff and servers were welcoming and quick. There are certain things you can expect from Denny's. In this case, only the coffee was to par. Even the OJ was watered down and tasteless. The techno/electronica music blaring from the kitchen made me want to shoot myself in the face. One customer asked if the cook could turn it down, to which the cook replied, "OH my God!!" (A-hole). My cheese omelet was so burnt that my friend asked if it had mushrooms in it. ("No, it's burnt") And although the egg part of the omelet was burnt, the cheese managed to be completely void of melted. No matter how much you think this stop may be a good idea, don't do it. You'll regret it...for the rest of your life...heh. Just kidding...you'll definitely regret it for the rest of your trip. It's not like you have many other options in this town- La Cocina is closed on the weekends and we were in Raton on a Sunday. We were a group of 6 and all 6 of our drinks were empty for a while. She was nowhere to be seen. When she finally brought our food, we had to point out all the drinks were empty.
