    Fried Mozz. Sad!
    Vivian H.

Meh. Recently checked Depalma's on our Sunday pizza rotation. Ordered fried mozz which was frozen freezer burnt sticks absolutely drowned in sauce. Threw them right in the trash. Pizza faired slightly better although incredibly bland. Had no taste! Not sure we will order again.

We had the ricotta and honey on toast, meatballs, prosciutto/mozzarella to start, some white wine and of course PIZZA! The pizza was light and cooked perfectly. We had the Dolce Salato and the Diavolina. We loved the Dolce Salato! The Diavolina was good, but I think some more spicy salami or maybe an additional spicy component would have been a good addition to the pizza. It needed just a little bit more on the flavor side. But still everything here is high quality and I would recommend! Service was excellent. We were immediately seated and had the option to sit inside or outside. I first sat inside, then we moved to a larger table outside. What I really appreciated as a new mom, was their openness and flexibility for coming in with a stroller. I was nervous to be a burden to the restaurant, but they were super accommodating. Thank you On room for improvement, I think on a hot day, having the inside space being much much cooler, than the outdoor seating (especially for newborns/really young kids/elderly) would be beneficial. Yesterday it was cool inside to start (and remember I chose to move outside), but they started to leave the front door open to allow for easy movement of staff and guests between inside and outside, which made the indoor space get warmer over time. And I totally get that for the ease of movement for staff/guests, but maybe consider keeping it super cool on the inside, so that kiddos/elderly have a cool space on a really hot day to not overheat. The vibe here is great. Chill, warm and light! Come with family and/or friends and enjoy!

I enjoyed the tomato pie more than I thought I would but a pizza with cheese on it would have been better. The summer special pizza, shrimp scampi was fabulous. The shrimp wasn't too chewy and the garlic works so well on the pizza. This is an absolute favorite of everyone in our party. My biggest issue with both pies is the crust edges are overcooked. I like some char but there is just too much that it just tastes bad. I almost never throw out the crust of a pizza but I had to do it for almost every slice here. Great pizza, but not necessarily a must have.

The tomato and moz pie was everything I wanted out of this New Haven specialty. Charred, light, and cracker-like crust met with bright fresh tomato sauce and a thin layer of baked in cheese that combines into one flat unit of tasty. The shrimp scampi pie took it in a different direction. As more of a white style of pizza, the topping of shrimp, confit garlic, onion , and lemon made for a scrumptiously bright and oceanic apizza pairing nicely with the smokey, charred wood fired base. Walking out with black dusted fingertips was a badge of honor! Service: We got here on a weekend before 11 and had to wait approximately 30 min to be seated and then 35 min to get our apizzas after ordering. The wait staff was so nice and excited it was my first time. Ambiance: Unapologetically historic and classical. You come here for the storied past and great food. Don't forget to run to the bathroom and catch a glimpse of their glorious wood ovens making magic.

Also, the cheese was perfect with just the right amount of grease. Finally, the sauce had a savory tomato flavor which was excellent. I just wish they put more on the pizza. In similar fashion, the spicy shrimp pizza was very good as well. To breakdown, the shrimp tasted fresh and had great flavor. My only complaint was that the pizza was a little too spicy for my taste. It was founded by pizzaiolo Luigi Bernardo Jr. The Bernardo Family plays a large role in Greater New Haven's rich pizza history. Family patriarch Luigi "Gigi" Bernardo immigrated to New Haven from Naples, Italy in the 1960s. In 1974, Gigi opened his own business "Gigi's Bakery" on Chapel Street where he made baked goods and pizza. The family moved the business to Grand Avenue in 1982 and they continued to operate it until Gigi's retirement in 2001. He passed away in 2009. Gigi passed down his culinary talents to his seven children (including sons Luigi Jr, Frank, and Arsenio who all became pizzaioli). Frank runs the New Haven Pizza Truck while Arsenio runs the New Haven Pizza Place. Luigi Jr continued his late father's legacy when he started his own pizza truck business dubbed "Little Italy". The truck travels around Southern Connecticut to craft delicious wood-fired pizza pies at wineries, breweries and festivals. My family and I recently tried some of Little Italy's delicious pies when we visited Rosabianca Vineyards in Northford. The winery frequently hosts pizza trucks and other food trucks on the weekends. My wife and I had previously eaten Bernardo Family-created pizzas from the New Haven Pizza Truck and New Haven Pizza Place. We were excited to try Little Italy's offerings. After looking over their menu, we decided to order and share the "Margherita" (white fresh tomato, basil and garlic) and the "Mashed Potato Bacon" (with caramelized onion). The Margherita was more of an American-style Margherita versus a Traditional Neapolitan-style Margherita, but still very good. The real star for us was the Mashed Potato Pie! The mashed potatoes had a perfect texture and the bacon and onions were so flavorful. It was perfect! Both pies had excellent crust and they paired well with our wine. We really enjoyed our experience with Little Italy and we hope to see them again!

The plain pies, mashed potato, and the mangia special were my favorites but really everything there was top notch. There is nothing that I wouldn't order again. The crust is nice and crunchy. Good char on it. Sauce was delicious - not sour like straight from a can. Toppings were better than I expected for a small pizza spot. Sausage was tasty. Mushrooms were fresh not tinned, fresh tomatoes and basil. Tons of clams on the pizza. Bacon was thick sliced and left almost whole. Eggplant was sliced thin. Generous with the toppings. Even better than their pizza- is their service. It was my first time meeting them and I felt like an old friend. They were so friendly, chatted with us, told us stories -- we really had a good time.
