Incredible Super Heroes! In the movies, the first thing we…read moresee a hero do in order to win our hearts is some small act of kindness or warm-heartedness and gentleness. Screen writers call it "saving the cat". Just recently Algonquin Heating & Air-conditioning did just that for my family! They literally saved our cat! She had crawled down through a floor heating duct and got stuck. Very stuck. Like no way out but to take the tube down and pry it apart stuck--in a crawlspace! (I know, I know. I should never have removed the register.) The technicians they sent out could not have been kinder, more eager to help---and expert at their craft! They crawled on their hands an knees over pea gravel all the way over to where the cat was, disconnected and pulled down the very long tube, gently pried some of it apart, and with lots of patience and gentleness, coaxed the cat out. They even led the charge in catching her as she ran all over my crawl space scared out of her wits!! After all of that, they did a free checkup of my furnace (including a new air filter) and taped up a bad spot in my duct work that substantially improved the air flow! That, in turn, eliminated my urges to pop off my floor registers to try to get more heat or A/C into my little home studio. The cat was saved and the furnace air flow works so much better now! THE END (roll the credits) Epilogue: After about three days, our cat finally calmed down, came out of hiding and is doing fine. Although she is right now, at this very moment, as I'm writing this, sniffing around at the very register where she was previously stuck --and I'm not making this up! to quote Dave Barry. But, you know what they say about cats and curiosity..... I'm on to you, cat. That register is never coming off again! PS: If you want a textbook example of "saving the cat" in the movies watch the first 5 minutes of 2004 "The Incredibles." It's a hoot!

Asked their technician to come out to perform an inspection and provide a report for potential home buyers. They failed to provide the service and have failed to follow up on phone calls and emails. The report was a simple invoice with notes. This would have been acceptable except for the report containing notes contradicting the verbal report the technician gave. They added notes such as "could crack any day" and "recommend replacement" immediately after noting the HVAC system was in good condition. I don't appreciate their effort to gain business at my expense, their dishonesty adding notes to the report they never discussed verbally during their inspection, or their lack of customer service. These issues were shared with them in an attempt to resolve them and they have not responded (phone or email) since they said they would get back to me over a month ago. They do not care about addressing customer concerns or following through on the service they promise.

The initial installation needed major rebuilding and corrections. Given the scope of the rebuild, I missed that the condenser unit was not placed properly in the wall, it is causing ongoing issues. Initially there were metal fragments on top of the condenser that went to the outside. Glad that I had a ladder to get on top of it and clean it off, before the metal fragments became airborne. The "free" vent cleaning caused dust to blow all over my condo unit. Not good when you have lung disease. I ended up cleaning dust that had been trapped in the vents. The tech didn't bring a shop vacuum to take care of. the job. They used a machine that flapped a rag around in my vents. I was concerned that the vents would be torn up. The motor itself is very loud and I still haven't gotten used to it. The contactor slams in and start up is a continual disturbance. Noted too that there are no insulators around the main electrical breaker. Decided to pass on the "free warranty." The associated service calls required to maintain the warranty were not "free." Very disappointed how the project turned out. It was stressful, expensive and subpar.

He came back, he did not call me as I requested, the tenant let him into the condo and he did work without my authorization! I was charged $606.15, without giving my go ahead to do the work! When I mentioned that our old system was noisy, he identified that our return duct was undersized and recommended adding a bottom return base with a 4-inch media filter to improve airflow and reduce noise...something no other company suggested. During the installation, they even enlarged part of the return duct at no additional charge, even though it wasn't included in the original quote. I wanted to share my experience with Ahrens & Condill HVAC company and specifically with Scott,…read moresince he was my primary contact. I contacted them and talked to Scott about the heat issue in my apartment. I knew exactly what needed to be done, as the maintenance person from my building had already inspected it and told me exactly what repairs need to take place. In my phone conversation with Scott, I explained everything to him in details and sent him pictures. He mentioned that he would still need to come out to inspect my unit before repairs could take place. When I asked him, sure, but could you please do the repair in one visit. He said no, justifying it that that's how it is usually done and I will need to pay $140 just for the first visit. I agreed to it. When he came in he literally spent 10 min at my place because, again, I had told him what needed to be done from the beginning and even sent him what he needed to bring with him. So I literally paid $140 for nothing. We then agreed that he will order necessary parts for the repair and will send his guys to do it. When I asked how much it would cost - he said that it's $150 per hour. So it solely depends on the time it takes to finish the job. I said ok and agreed to it. A week later Scott texted me saying that he received all necessary parts and ready to schedule repair visit. He also added that this work will cost $825. I was shocked with the cost and asked him how did he even come up with this number, since he told me that final cost solely depended on time duration and they only charge per hour, which is $150 per hour. He said that the material is part of the cost. I know for a fact that the material is no more than $100, so I asked him how much is the material. He didn't even bother explaining it and just said that his company works on flat rate pricing and they don't break it down per part and labor. Which was a complete lie and scam because initially he stated that they only charge per hour and that's how final cost gets calculated. Basically he wanted me to pay $826 + $140 (which I had already paid) = $966 for something that should not take more than 1-2 hours and should be around $300-$400 with labor and material. I am being completely transparent about my experience with them and particularly with Scott. Because I want to ensure that no one else gets fooled by them and spend money for nothing. I am also attaching my conversation with Scott in text messages for full transparency. Stay away from this company and from Scott in particular They just want to fool you and overcharge you for nothing. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable in this day and age.
