This guy is a crook, a flat-out thief. I ordered a bike online Monday 4/16 after verifying it was in stock. My credit card was charged right away. A week later, no bike so I called for a tracking number. FedEx showed that it had not even shipped yet. Their response was "I'll ask our Fed Ex driver about it." wtf? After a bunch of phone calls I was told that the bike was out of stock and that my card would be credited. Two days later, still no credit and nothing pending from them on my online banking account. They have had my $650 for over 10 days now, I have no bike, they don't even have the bike and my card still has not been credited. It looks like I'm going to have to sue this horsesh*t outfit. Not a biker by any means but we have been here a few times to get parts as my husband has a "project" bike he is building for our son. They have all sorts of parts and accessories and for the most part, the customer service is OK. The prices however are EXTREMELY high, after my husband spending a quick $100 each trip, I started to research on line to find what he needed and I concur, the mark ups here are easily 50%+. I guess if you need it right away, this is a good place to go. If you are a bike lover, also a good place to go though the prices of the bikes seemed also pretty high but I am again not an expert by far. I purchased my first mountain bike from Derby back in 2010 and they were great. Last week I decided to go back in and see Bill, I wanted to se what kind of bike would be best for my type of endurance road riding. He was very attentive to my budget and helped me pick out the best bang for the buck in my budget. After I purchased my new Jamis Zenith Ventura 1, I went back today to get a professional fit to my new bike. I also upgraded my pedals and new clip in shoes (first time in these shoes). Tom did an amazing job, he is worth every penny and provides a very detailed service. I have been at a lot of the local bike shops including Performance Bikes and Bicycle Village in Westminster. Both of these stores are ok but gave me the big box retail feel, service wasn't very personalized and I had to wait just to talk to someone. The owner Bill and Abe are amazing! They will take great care of you and really do have your best interest at heart. Stop in and give them a try, they can help you get the right bike for you. I will be back in March to get a bike for my daughter and also plane to ride with their staff this spring. A+ in my book, shops like these are hard to find. read more

After going to Wheat Ridge Cycle and being treated like second rate citizen for just looking at a bike under 3k, I was really not in the mood to go somewhere else, especially somewhere with somewhat questionable reviews. I'm glad the hubby convinced me to give these guys a chance. I was VERY pleasantly surprised when we were greeted by a friendly smiling face the moment we walked in the door. They have an extremely large selection of bikes, and accessories, which allowed me more than one or two mediocre options. I had to compromise a little, but I certainly didn't settle, which was my expected outcome. Abe took the time to understand where I am as a rider, and where my spending levels were. He explained the difference between the bikes I was looking at and what an extra $500-$1000 would get me in the long run. Yes, I spent about $500 more than I really wanted to, but at the end of the day I feel really good about it. Abe spent at least 1.5 hours with us, making sure I had a set up that worked for me. I could tell he wasn't interested in up-selling me a bunch of junk I don't need, and he even spent time explaining things to me that he knew darn well I wasn't going to purchase. The more you know, right? At the end of a really frustrating day of bike shopping at multiple shops, I walked out not only feeling really good about my purchase, but also feeling like I had spoken to the first person in a bike shop that wasn't a pretentious jerk. You just don't find that many good retail experiences anymore.... but if a bike is on your shopping list, you can find a great one here. My story actually has two great parts.... the sale and the service. The Sale I am a guy with a regular sized (maybe even large) upper body but freakishly short legs. The last 2 bikes that I owned where "technically" the right fit.... but really never felt right. Abe at Derby was quick to "throw away the chart" and find the bike that would work w/ both of my halves. The Service The bike I happily took home turned out to have random noise (a creak) that I was just going to be able to live with. It took a couple of trips to find and fix (what turned out to be a pretty small issue in the assembly at the factory). There was a little inconvenience there.... but it was easily overwhelmed by the patience and professionalism that Frank, Abe and the staff showed as they enthusiastically made it right. read more

I would like to preface this with saying I have never had to write a review before, ever. I stopped in a few days ago to try to get some information about a women's road bike. I stopped in and there was a man standing by the doorway who obviously worked there. No joke, he never even asked if he could help me. I said hello, I'm looking to get some information about road bikes because I'm doing my very first triathalon. I wish I were exaggerating when I said, the man ROLLED HIS EYES at me and said, "why?" I thought he must be joking...so, I smiled and told him it's something I've always wanted to try to do. He then again said, "Why?" in a snarky tone. I said, "Well, I used to be a swimmer, so I'd like to try out the biking and running." He said to me, (oh my gosh I couldn't believe it) "You're just gonna keep saying things that make me keep asking you WHY!" He was awful. He proceeded to tell me how he lives in Wash Park and how he rides his bike so fast around there he has to avoid the cop's radars. He was absolutely rude, condecending and made me feel awful for wanting to try something new. My friend that was with me had to walk out because he was so angry at how the man was treating me. Spiky bleach blonde hair and tattoos don't make you awesome. Respect does. If someone is trying something new, they need a friendly hand to guide them through their questions. You should never feel the way I did when I walked out of that store. Fortunately, I was able to go to REI and I found some amazing people there. They were helpful, kind and patient with me. I spent money there...I will never, ever spend money at Derby Bicycle Center. I also have many friends who I know will ask where I got my gear...I will make sure they know how awful this man at this store was and to never go here. If you want questions answered, if you want to have an enjoyable experience purchasing a bike, do not go to Derby Bicycle Center. read more

I took my trek bike to these guys in pretty rough shape for a tune up and they returned the bike to me in practically brand new condition. I put the bike away for a week before I could ride it due to bad weather and when I got a chance to ride it there was a flat tire. They replaced the tube for free and they did it within 10 minutes. Good place to service a bike. Nice guys with a good attitude also. read more

Needed a chain, needed it now in order to ride. Derby was the closest shop. They had what I needed, staff was helpful and friendly. However, they charged me $54 for a chain that has a MSRP of $43 and is regularly available online for $27-35. Avoid these guys. EDIT: Interesting that the owner decided to doubledown on overcharging me in his response. The chain in question is a SRAM PC-1071. Google it yourself to see what the MSRP is according to SRAM, and what it sells for elsewhere. The owner attacking me and blaming the manufacturer rather than apologizing for his unethical business practices tells me everything I need to know about this shop. If they had charged me MSRP there would be no negative review, but I suppose $11 was more important. read more

I feel like I've found one of the coolest bike shops in the Denver area. Delightfully claustrophobic, this place is packed with so many good quality bikes and gear and knowledge. The staff here are busy because they want to actually help you and they'll take their time doing so. Their selection is actually *much* better than some of the larger bike shops, and you know that you're getting a good investment on a good long-term purchase here. If you want cheap (and unreliable), stick to a big-box store. But these folk obviously care about a good product and a repair job well completed. read more

I found everyone I dealt with in the store to be friendly and helpful. I had a bike fitting and the fitter was extremely helpful and the fitting was pretty cheap for the service I got; I will likely always use them for fittings. I cannot express enough how I feel I underpaid for the fitting considering the service I received. Their prices for everything else though is extremely high. I found most components to be priced over 60% higher than prices at Amazon. Now we all know Amazon is pretty much always cheaper. When I shop for bike parts I usually prefer to pay a premium and go to a store that actually specializes in bikes; you get to pick them for knowledge and get recommendations. I'm okay with spending $20 more on a part. I'm not okay with spending 60% more. That's not an arbitrary number either. I compared pedals, pumps, and tool kits. I was in a jam and needed pedals immediately and couldn't wait for shipping so I picked up a pair for $115. Got home and looked up the model on Amazon and found them being sold from various 3rd parties between $60-$75. read more

This is the worst bike shop ever. Went in a couple of weeks ago with intentions to buy a brand new bike and we asked the guy for help and he was rude and assumed we knew what we wanted and was zero help to us. Then just today I went to get a few tubes for my tire and they had the doors locked at 545 when their sign clearly says closing at 6pm. The worker saw me in the window and walked away. Hopefully the manager or owner sees this and changes the way they are running this shop. I'm glad to say I go to a bike and ski shop in Westminster who actually care. Overpriced. I've been riding since I was 5, heavily into it for the past 20 years now. After dozens of bike shops I suppose I may have a certain expectation, one of which is to not be gouged for inner tubes. I had ordered a redline 16" bike for my 4 year old, and when I went in I inquired about going tubeless - as all my bikes are. They offered to put slime tubes in and I said sure. Then I figured out they were charging $40 for tubes and about 2 minutes labor (which I could do in the same time or less). I have never actually been charged for similar work at my shops. Fair selection and reasonably knowledgeble staff keep this from being a bad review, as I stated I have higher expectations from a shop. read more

I'm not (yet) in shape and I've never owned a bike other than whatever was cheap and available at the cheap store. I went to this bike shop and was greeted by the friendly staff almost immediately. The bike they had offered was outside of my price range, but I was considering the difference in price versus getting another cheap bike from the cheap store that I may not ride. After discussing it with their staff, I soon realized I was talking to the owner. I went back the next day and purchased the bike. In the past 2 weeks, I've ridden this bike almost 20 miles! It's incredibly comfortable and easy to ride. I would avoid this place. Prices are high, shop is overcrowded, staff are a mixed bag, service is very poor. I took my recumbent there to replace a simple handlebar shifter. They charged $85 to replace a simple easy-to-replace $12 part. I went to pick the bike up and they had replaced both shifters (they come in a pack) but the left one (which did not need to be replaced) was the wrong part - high gear was 1, low gear was 3, and it turned the wrong way. I pointed this out and rather than put the right part on, before I knew it the service manager had actually REMOVED THE NUMBERS from the shifter with acetone and scribed an ugly mark on my new shifter where he thought gear 2 was. They had thrown my old perfectly good shifter away, so I spent a half hour in their dumpster trying to find it to no avail. I asked them to please get the right part and put it on and the owner said he'd try to locate it and to call them in a few days. Meanwhile my wife bought a $650 new cruiser from them but this made no difference in the service they gave me. I sure hope we don't have to take it back there. If you want to pay retail for a new bike this is your place but pray that nothing goes wrong. If you want good workmanship or good service go somewhere else. read more

I brought my bike into Derby Bicycle shop for a 99.00 tuneup the mechanic suggested that I go to the next tier tuneup because it was more intense, I agreed it was suppose to be fixed in 2 days and ready by 5 pm on July 23rd, When I called in Thurs they said my bike would be late because the mechanic called in sick, and I would have to wait 1.5 hours more for it past the due time of 5 pm, Went in Early, I was excited to get my bike back, When I rode the bike the 1st time the chain kept slipping and the gears would not engage between the 22nd and 24th gears ,It would not up shift or down shift properly either, So I took it back the next day and they treated me very rudely, I walked through the door and the first Rude comment was what do you want? I explained to them what was going on, The Mechanic proceeded to take my bike back worked on it for 10 min then told me I would have to come back in 2 hours, The Mechanic called and accused me of putting WD 40 on the cassette and he needed to take it apart and clean it again, I said go ahead (What am I suppose to say) When I go to pick it up they again they accuse me again of putting WD 40 on the cassette which is a lie because you cant get one drop of oil on disc Brakes or its totaled, Left being treated rudely again, Rode my Bike again and the same problems are still there, They did not fix it, This is the 2nd time that I have had to bring my bike back in. So I returned for a 2nd time and he again says rudely what do you want this time? I said to him it still has the same problems the mechanic worked on it again and I waited outside, He came outside and got me and said your problem is your cassette is broken and worn out and needs to be replaced, I asked how much he says $70.00, He does the work and I leave, Riding again finding the same problems are there, Now I have spent over $350.00 $150.00 for the Tuneup $75.00 for the New tires and Tubes plus $70.00 for the new cassette and chain plus the bike gloves $35.00 and the bike still does not ride properly. still needs adjustments, The Mechanic has a checklist and if that checklist would have been followed than all this could have been avoided. Instead I have had All of this heartache that could have been avoided if they had fixed it right the first time, I have all this stress having to go back 2 times and all the accusations and disrespectful and rude treatment plus the verbal attacks I paid them $$$ and they screwed me causing me stress over all this. This shop took all my $$$ and wasted by time they never fixed it right. This bike shop has a mechanic that charges people for work that is marked off completed but is not, he does not do a thorough and professional job.
