I got a small paint transfer spot from a thankfully very minor collision in a parking lot and was unsure whether the clear coat was compromised, or if it could be easily rubbed off. I drove over to Derek's. I was greeted with an intense aroma of paint and primer, as expected. A very kind polish man came out to my car with me, looked at it for a second and then went into the shop to grab a couple things. He returned and quickly buffed out the side of the car, no questions no anything. His only words "No Charge, have a good day". And that was that. For the price of a handshake, my car was as if nothing had ever happened. He could have honestly said that the clear coat was scratched and duped me into a couple hundred bucks....but he didn't. Brought my car here after an accident... -most issues fixed -still have a shimmy in my newly installed wheel -paid for a new serpentine belt and now it's squealing like a pig!! (They want me to bring it back and I won't) -responsiveness is less than I hoped -changed my oil without telling me and used regular instead of synthetic!! The entire shop speaks a foreign language along with most of their customers and I find it very rude to do so in front of me. So,... no, I would not recommend Derek's auto. This is a place that's worth the drive if you're looking for affordable, reliable body work, especially if you're insurance isn't covering it. I bought a 2012 Mazda 3 hatchback with some minor damage (scratches and dings) on the driver side backdoor, which the dealership knocked off some $$$ for. Besides the damage, it was the perfect car at a good price point for my needs and a car I want to keep around for a while. Unfortunately, the damage was a little deeper than I initially thought, and it started rusting once winter came. The more it began to rust. The more it started to annoy me and worry me, in general. I began searching for a body shop to get my car fixed. Obviously, getting paint damage fixed is not cheap without insurance. I knew this going in, and I knew a ball park of what the work should cost. I went to a few places to get estimates. Full disclosure, I am a woman, and various mechanics and techs have tried to screw me over and have screwed me over in regards to car issues. It's not easy to be a woman by yourself and making decisions about your car. When I went around gathering estimates, one franchise-y place gave me an estimate that didn't seem *quite* right. I knew I had to try one other place I had found on Yelp: Derek's Auto Body Shop. I had noticed on their Yelp reviews that they had stunning reviews, and if people are taking their BMWs to Derek's, my little Mazda would probably come out just fine. They offered a great, affordable price. The guys are the shop are super friendly and helpful. They are also really laid back, which I personally like. It made a process I was dreading way less dreadful. The estimate for my car was very quick. When I heard the price, I was like "YES. PLEASE. THANK YOU," and turned my car over after the weekend. They finished the job very quickly (less than two days) and even cleaned my car, which was awesome because I just moved and have been busy with work and the holidays. My car looks nicer than when I bought it. The paint job looks excellent and smooth (you can't tell anything was ever wrong with it). I am super, super pleased with my experience. I work out in Des Plaines and live in Chicago, but this is one of those places that's worth the drive.I will recommend them to anyone that ever needs this kind of work. read more

Stopped in Thursday for a quote on a broken tail light, they called next day advising part in house and on Saturday morning it was fixed and out the door in one hour. I've been using Yelp to help find services for plumbing and such, but I wasn't sure how it would go with autobody work. I took a chance and actually asked for quotes from a few different locations but Mike at Derek's Auto Body Shop was the fastest and most responsive for a quote. In the end, because of how specific his quote was - and in the way he was detailed about it and even with his questions, we chose this location. I sent Mike pictures of the back bumper to my Dad's 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee which had just gotten scratched up in the bumper badly from a treadmill move we did. (Yeah, using a brand new car as a moving truck - not smart.) Not only were the scratches terrible, it scratched the chrome as well. He gave me a quote for both new chrome and without. I scheduled the appointment from out of the area (in Washington D.C.) and my dad dropped off the car on a Saturday. Within a few days, he had it back all brand new and shiny. My dad couldn't be happier. I couldn't be happier in how accommodating Mike was and how easy the whole process was. SERIOUSLY would not go anywhere else if I'm even remotely close to the area again. In future may even drive my car there from DC and see about getting work done if need be (since my family lives in the area). Was rear ended about 2 months back and took my car to Dereks for an initial estimate. Mike was great from the start and even helped secure my bumper to make sure no additional damage was done prior to insurance company approval. Dereks used OEM parts as I requested and also advised me what other parts were damaged. Great communication throughout the process and they included pictures to document the additional damage. Mike even stayed late on a Friday night to make a slight adjustment to make sure everything was perfect when I went to pick up the vehicle. After several weeks of driving the bumper is in fantastic shape. I just saw Mike in a Walgreens parking lot and he recognized me and my car. After my car was damaged while in a parking lot, I had a lot of trouble getting my insurance company to pay for the full repair because of rust in that area (2010 Ford Escape, known for its rusting). Mike at Derek's went above and beyond in dealing with them. The body work was supposed to take 2 weeks (that was quoted everywhere), but they got it done in 1.5 weeks, which was a very nice surprise. They also gave me a great deal on repairing the rust on the opposite wheel well while in there as well. My car looks like new again and I couldn't be happier with the work they did. Very friendly and accommodating to deal with, I didn't have to wait for an appointment for a quote, great prices, excellent work.
