I needed a few things and this place was close to where I was already shopping in Sunnyvale. It is a South Asian grocery store. Went in for some vegetables, the stock is very limited and they had no bags to put the produce in and no one around to help. Went up to the counter to pay and there was no one there. Called for someone and a woman peeked out of the kitchen and went right back in! She came back a few minutes later and was having a conversation over the phone. She started ringing me up and then right in the middle of doing so, she walked away! Didn't come back for a few more minutes. Rang me up but they charge for using anything other than cash. Produce was very limited, as well as the other packaged items. It is a very small place. They also have a kitchen but but it was not busy on a weekday evening. My first experience of getting a few dishes were amazing. It really reminded me of home food. The second time around I didn't get the same taste unfortunately. I am happy to try again because the first time was really too good for me to forget. It's a grocery store + food pick up place (I don't think there is sit down service here but I may be wrong). The service was not too long but not super fast either. The grocery store has different types of fish and I enjoyed taking some Hilsa home. I ordered a chicken roast, butter chicken, and beef curry. Every item was almost inedibly sweet. The butter chicken and beef curry both didn't have the depth and umph I expect from Indian food. I said it prior, but the dishes were really sweet and I couldn't finish them all. On the plus side, the meats were cooked well. The chicken was slow cooked and had a shredded texture while the beef was pretty tender and not dry. Add less sugar and cook down the curry more and they got a star dish. read more

The food is delicious and very authentically Bengali. The staff is also very kind and will offer to make you specific authentic Bengali dishes if there are things you want that are not on the menu if you ask and they have the supplies on hand. This is inside of a grocery store so there is no seating, only takeout. During Ramadan they also offer delicious Bengali iftar boxes. Would highly recommend getting the iftar box with pakora, boot, muri, fried eggplant, an aloo chop, and a date. read more

Not sure if this review will be filtered but I'm posting to inform that I bought an item on June 22 2020 (6/22/2020) and the expiration date on three item was September 18 2019 (9/18/2019). We are in the middle of a pandemic and the owner needs to realize to check his inventory instead of profits. I've attached a picture just so that this review is not disputed buy the owner saying this was a false review. The owner refunded the amount charged for the item when I called him back to inform what he's been selling in his store but as a customer I'd advice everybody shopping here to check the dates on their items. Wow! What a treasure trove of a place; especially for those who long for Bengali cuisine; provided they are willing to expend some elbow grease in the kitchen. I dropped in twice today. They had a huge freezer-load of full Hilsa and Rohu fish and are more than happy to clean and cut it for you if you ask them. Just make sure you ask to them to clean it too since I asked them to only cut it thinking the fish had been scaled already. On getting to my friend's place, they told me this place also had mishti doi, the sweet Bengali yogurt set in a clay pot. So I *had* to go back and there I was, on my way back home, dropping in to pick up two of those little pots of gold (ok, yogurt). I haven't tried it yet but I can't wait. They kept it frozen so I gotta let it thaw out and let it get to the right texture. We also had some chicken rolls and the "chicken kebab roll" was really good. I was looking to cater Bengali food for my son's birthday party. Have tried every restaurant that caters Bengali food here in the bay area but this has been the best so far. Food was simply outstanding and made it slightly customized to to my needs to taste more like Assamese/Bengali fusion. I got reprimanded for looking around and taking photos of things I found unique and cool. I told them I was I waiting for my Bangladeshi friends to have dinner there and they were ok. 5 minutes later, I started to get followed and questioned if I was indeed there for what I said I was there for. They told me to sit down and didn't let me walk and look around anymore. My friends showed up a few minutes later and I was so shook and bothered by then. The food they served was good and were flavors I've never had before. Still, I don't dare to come back to this place alone again. It was sad and obvious that I was not wanted and welcomed there. Walked in to buy some meat. Noticed a "fishy" smell. Ignored better sense and got some "fresh" fish cooked to order to go. Waited 45 minutes for my order to be prepared. I always liked Bangla Bazar but my recent few visits were not so good. The store smells really bad, sickening and unhygienic. They don't even turn on the air conditioner. Goat Biriani & Beef Curry: Both the items were piping hot which means that they were pre-cooked and microwaved before serving. Why on earth it took them more than 30 minutes to serve me microwaved food is beyond me. Not good food and horrible service. They moved to a new location over by Wolf road and selling tradition Bengoli food on the side . Save your money and go somewhere else. Food was disgusting, I don't know where they got their recipe. Goat biriany was super dry , disgusting Murighonto , Halim - they literately picked up some pre cooked chunks of goat meat from another nasty goat curry he had it out there for sale and mixed it with " Halim". So, I went back a few times and tried different items. Food remain very authentic, great price and generous portion. Food: Chicken puloi (chicken rice): simply delicious. This isn't exactly my highlight but the taste was good. Biryani: my search maybe over. Biryani is tough to compare simply because it has so many variations. I liked theirs because it was mild and not overpowering. Generous portions of chicken. Although, just a heads up, there are pieces of green chilies. Avoid those and you'll live. Hilsha fish in mustard sauce: super tasty and spot on. Although, eating that fish is an art itself. Zillion tiny/sharp pieces of bone. It had to be eaten in the privacy of home at own leisure. Piajo: the best way to describe it would be a cross between flour fritters and opinion rings. Taste wise, mind own. I think the base is made with yellow lentil. OMG. My taste buds broke into happy dance. It's crunchy and delicious appetizer. Veg pakora: I bit into large chunk of real veggies. There were cauliflower, potato and other veg, I think. And many more dishes that will take a month to jot down. Extensive menu and each item is available at all time. Which other desi restaurant has that? Um, not many. Just go try. As for their pricing inconsistency, it's all good now. They figured it all out and have HUGE menu on the wall. Honestly, that menu itself is an art! So, there are no more surprises about pricing - very consistent. Maybe, was a little harsh earlier, given they were new. Service remain very good. The people are super nice. If I could take out some stars from the already written reviews, then I would have certainly done it for this crappy place. I would never ever return to but meat from here. Bought lamb and chicken from this place last Saturday and kept it as packed in the freezer. When I took it out yesterday to cook, it was completely stale and had a rotten smell coming from the chicken. I would recommend going to this place to buy spices but never for meat. Authentic Bengali/Odiya food. Samosa has fried cut potato stuffing rather than mashed potatoes is an example of how authentic it is. We liked fish curry and butter chicken. Chicken pulao is slightly sweet which I didn't like. I will definitely try their goat curry next time. read more

The food is good,the price is not because portions are small. The tray is small 9"x 7" and the main course they put in a small section of the tray. Large section of tray filled with rice. $13 dollars (With tax) for combo and does not come with drink. I would rate it 2.5 stars but cannot so I go to 3 so I am being generous.
