One of the more unique boba shops. Maybe it's because I'm not very knowledgeable about different types of teas, but I honestly hate places with menus like this. Instead of just describing the drink plain and simple, they use these crazy titles and labels that only make it harder to know what each drink is -- "Metal Goddess", "Phoenix", "Alisan High Mountain". They have flavor notes to help understand the taste, but it's still pretty difficult to really get a full understanding of everything. They also only offer one size for their drinks, and some drinks don't allow adjustments to their sweetness level. It's a bit difficult to find exactly what you're looking for, but when you do manage to find it, it's pretty good! The prices are also very reasonable considering the small sizes. * Mango Alisan Oolong: 10/10 - nice mango flavor * Large Tapioca Pearls (Topping): 9/10 - soft and chewy but could've been more generous with the portion The interior looks and feels like an abandoned museum or New York City apartment studio. My sister honestly thought it was a pop-up shop that was only there for a limited time. They offer a restroom in the back, but the entire shop isn't very spacious. People have to line up against the wall to wait for their drinks, and there's no interior seating at all. The workers were very nice and friendly, but they were obviously understaffed. It's located in the popular Heritage Plaza, so parking should be relatively simple, but it can get crowded at peak times like dinner. Everyone who works at Desouro is super welcoming. If you don't like your drink, they're willing to adjust this for you which I find is really important when it comes to trying any new tea drink. The trainee helping us was helpful and nice. The store itself is weirdly shaped. The aisle to pick up your drink and to the bathroom is the same narrow path. If you have a stroller, it's a nightmare. Everyone's squeezing by you as it is, let alone if you have anything bulky in the way. Drink itself was average. You can taste the tea but it's buried in milk and ice. While you can adjust this, you can't adjust diluted tea. If it's not there, it's just not gonna happen. Boba is $1 to add. There's barely any boba. I'd say one measly scoop. We went when there wasn't a queue and that was great. Caffeine free teas (Buckwheat) just started today. Not sure if I would come back again. read more

Came here during their soft opening and I have to admit I was impressed! The space is simple, modern, clean. They really try to elevate the experience with their menu style, the open kitchen concept with upscale machines, and the menu options. When your order is ready they have you take a sip before leaving to ensure you "love it" (if you've been to Philz coffee, exact same concept) Given it was a soft opening, I was more understanding of how long of a wait it was but hoping that resolves itself as they go. Price point is average to slightly high in comparison to other boba spots (which are endless around the city of Irvine) Overall a solid first impression, will be back to see how they fare in a couple months! read more

Desouro is super similar to Orobae! I ordered Phoenix No.13 which is an oolong milk tea. It is similar to what I remember from Orobae. There is a sweetness level from 1-5. I got a 3 and it tasted like 75% sweet, so I do think their drinks are on the sweet side. I wish I got a 2, it was pretty sweet! Also, I'd recommend getting full ice. Personally, I like my drinks cold and here (just like Orobae) the regular amount of ice is never enough as it is nearly all melted by the time I get back to my car. I normally don't enjoy milk tea but Desouro is my exception. I LOVE how they brew each cup to order using espresso-style brewing. The flavors are fragrant and not watered down. The service is always so professional. They're always so friendly and helpful when ordering. They allow you to adjust sugar and ice levels. Upon picking up your order, they have you try it to make sure that it is to your liking. I've never seen any other drink shop with this type of amazing service. The indoor space is tight. There's usually a line, especially on weekends but it's not too bad. I wish they offered a larger size for their drinks but it's only one size. I've tried a few of their slushes but didn't really enjoy it. Their freshly brewed tea is where it's at. I recommend the Phoenix #13 Milk Tea. Heard so much hype about Desouro, so I had to come check it out when I was in Irvine. The service was excellent! Every staff member was so knowledgeable of their drinks and was so willing to explain each flavor profile when I had questions.    Red Jade Black Milk Tea (4/5) I personally like my drinks less sweetened so I opted to make it half sweetness. In my opinion, it was the right amount of sweetness but I can tell it might fall flat for some people. It had a nice balance of the tea and the creaminess of the milk. But if you want to full experience, feel free to get full sweetness! Worse comes to worse, the staff doesn't mind adjusting the sweetness for you and remaking your drink.   Overall, excellent service and excellent vibes! I stopped my sniveling and decided to try their match tea since that seemed to be the other item they specialized in. The worker made it sound so amazing and knowledgeable till I asked where the matcha was from and she looked at me and said Japan. I have been wanting to try Desouro to see how it compares to its old counterpart Orobae, and I finally was able to stop by. Came on a Monday around 11:50am and there were only a few people in front of me, so there was no wait. There were two kiosks and the staff would rotate between the two to help multiple people order. Staff were all very nice. They have a lot of different drink options, and I got the Desouro Phoenix No.13 Oolong milk tea, I believe this one was most similar to Orobae's iconic rising phoenix. I saw there was also a phoenix no.2 and I was told the difference between no.13 and 2 is just the tea flavor profile, and that no.13 was more popular so that's why I got it. After ordering, you can wait to the side bar area, and I will say their interior is quite nice and does look a fancy tea shop with their probably expensive equipment. It took about 5-10 min to get the drink, which was pretty quick. Once they call your name, they would ask if it was your first time and then talking about how they make their teas. They also mentioned their perfect cup guarantee, which you would try the drink first and then let them know if you want any adjustments. I remember this kind of guarantee from Orobae as well and I still think it sometimes feels a bit awkward having to try the drink before leaving, but I do see why they do that and I do appreciate them wanting to make sure every person enjoys the drink. As for the Phoenix no.13 milk tea, it was pretty good. I could taste the high quality tea flavor, it was floral and it wasn't too strong. I got sweetness level 2 (around 25% sweet in percentage) and it was just right for me. However, I will say that it's not as creamy as I remember the rising phoenix to be, it just doesn't hit the same. I guess like most of the reviews have mentioned, it does feel a bit more diluted. Also, their half ice is actually super light ice, but it doesn't matter too much as the drink is still pretty cold and with how diluted it already is it won't need more ice anyway (but I guess they should call it light ice instead). Overall, a solid tea shop in the area! With the rising costs these days, they are actually quite affordable and on the cheaper end when it comes to price even for the slushes which is good. I usually don't get milk tea, so I wouldn't come out of my way to come here to get it as I think there's better milk tea places, but I do want to try their other milk teas and slushes. read more

She let me know that Orobae's original owner is Desouro's owner. All the new shiny machines look stunningly immaculate. I love the clean, modern, and simple vibes. It's a beautiful shop. The baristas seem happy to work there and are great at their craft. Prior to this visit, I have walked by several times seeing the line way out the door and decided to wait and come back during non-peak hours. There were only three teenagers ahead of us, so it was perfect timing on a Wednesday afternoon around 4 p.m. Even with only three ahead of us, it still took a while to get our drinks, so I will only come here if there is no line in the future. The drink itself was very good. I got the Red Jade Milk Tea with agar boba at a 2 for sweetness. It was perfect, no adjustments needed. The cup is smaller for a steep price as add-ons are $1.50 on top of the drink price and tip. So again, this place is a once in a while treat for me in this economy, unfortunately. In contrast to other boba shops like Sunright, Jam Jam, and Heytea, I do appreciate that these other shops have easy to use rewards that score discounts. Other than that, it's in a great location that needed a boba shop. Giving Desouro a 4/5 since service was excellent and they have a perfect drink policy which allows you to try your drink first and adjust it to your liking. I ordered the metal goddess with boba. The tea flavor isn't anywhere near as strong as Orobae. It was decent. I mainly tasted the sweetener and a hint a tea and I would say Desouro is comparable to another average boba shop. Cool little setup, however very confusing on where to stand/go. Why are there 2 walk ways for standing? I also like this new form of brewing tea using Espresso machines. However, this is Desouro COFFEE and tea right? Still no coffee. Is that in the works? Everyone is training, but everyone was super nice and helpful. Here's the issue. There was a single flow of drinks that were going down to 1 person finishing up and calling out the names. She was then asking people if they needed adjustments. GREAT. Really. Except she spent 5 minutes talking to a customer about her tea order, which meant my drink, next in line, had to wait until they could decide if they wanted their drink adjusted. They need to fix that procedure. You cannot have a bottle neck at the final point. Tea was good. I usually err on the side of less sweet (25%) however 50% was perfect this time around. I wouldn't go 25% here, especially on the stronger teas. I may come back to try their matcha, or when they start doing coffee. When I want tea-tea, I go to Desouro. It is honestly the only place around that has a strong enough tea where I'm not just sipping mostly milk with a hint of tea! The owners recommended phoenix something and I just went with it but put it to a sweet level of three, regular ice, and it was perfect! The drinks are good and reasonably priced (less than $7 including boba) but the customer service experience is the highlight. There isn't seating, but the staff are very welcoming and remembered my name from my order as they said goodbye. Each tea is brewed to order. Upon pickup, the staff hands you a straw (holding the wrapper for you and disposing of it) and asks you to test the drink. If you don't like it, they can remake it with changes or make a completely new drink for you, free of charge. The boba was chewy and I thought the ratio of boba to milk tea was perfect too. The menu is a bit overwhelming, but I don't think you can go wrong with anything here. There is no seating inside, but there are a few tables outside. The interior looks sleek like the entrance to a museum, which is nice if you have to wait a bit for your drink. We came here at a friend's recommendation. There was a long line here! Plenty of parking outside as it's in a plaza. The menu is more complicated than other tea places I've been to, as the teas seemed to be primarily broken down into black teas, green teas, and oolong teas, and further more into pure teas versus milk teas. Beyond that, each main type of tea had different flavor profiles. To help us navigate the menu, the owner (I presume) was outside talking to people in line and helping them pick out drinks. He was helpful, as he asked if we had eaten earlier, what kind of meal, and gave us recommendations on what drinks would work well for us based on what he asked. With that, I ended up with the Phoenix No. 13 milk tea, less sweet, half ice, added boba. For the Phoenix No. 13 milk tea, flavor notes included medium-dark roast, deeper oxidation, bold nutty-earthy tones. I think that was pretty accurate, although I might have liked something else, such as a more floral drink. The owner explained that all the items on the menu was vouched by him, and if he didn't like it, it is not on the menu. They also have a drink guarantee, so if you don't like the drink, they will remake it for you, which is reassuring and allows you to try new things without worrying whether you'll like it or not, because they will make it right for you! I think although I didn't love my drink 100%, I enjoyed trying something new, and this is really my preferences rather than something reflective of the business. The line took a while to get through, but once we ordered, we got our drinks fairly quickly. Service was very friendly overall. There is no seating inside, and there is limited outdoor seating. I think overall, their menu is very unique. I would have to study it to find the perfect drink for me here. 5 stars for the experience, 4 stars the drink i have based on my preferences. First impressions, loved the white walls, cleanliness, and welcoming staff. When we ordered the cashier patiently walked us through their menu as they had a lot of original tea recipes and blends. I settled for their Phoenix milk tea with boba and wow did the caffeine hit after! My boyfriend got a decaf milk tea which is so nice they have that as an option. We also had a lovely conversation with the manager, she told us more about their intentional tea sourcing from Taiwan to curate an authentic menu. You can tell they put a lot of care into the products and process in creating these drinks. Very different from the "fast food" tea shops. The line here is always long!! Unfortunately, I do think Desouro lives up to the hype so I will sacrifice my sanity to wait in line. The last time I went here, I waited about 30-40 minutes before getting to the cashier to order. The staff here is always amazing. They're all super friendly, helpful, and accommodating. My go-to drink is the Honey Gyokuro green milk tea with either level 3-4 sweetness depending on my mood. This milk tea always hits the spot. TLDR does it taste the same as Orobae? No. But is it still pretty good compared to what's out there? Yes. As a huge fan of Orobae, I was sad to hear it closed down and all the speculations of what caused its downfall. Even with all the dupes, no one could do Orobae like Orobae. So with that said, I was excited to try Desouro (Orobae 2.0) and see if it was the exact drinks I previously enjoyed. The wait was about 40 minutes even with some light rain. Unfortunately this place still thrives on long lines and they refuse to do an online ordering system. The ordering system is about the same, except now you can actually walk in to the store to order and pick up your drink. The interior was highly surveillanced with a lot of cameras and looked pretty sterile. The drink I got was Rising Buddha. The initial sip was a bit disappointing: more watery, not as smooth, and left an odd aftertaste. Not the exact same as Orobae. But, the more I drank it, the more I liked it. If you knew about orobae, this is orobae rebranded. Almost the same menu with some new names. They have new black cups, basically the same price, but the cups are so much smaller. Cup-flation. The inside decor is pretty minimal. There are a lot of tea making machines (pretty impressive). And the staff are super friendly and helpful. At the end when you get your drink they have the same practice in which they ask you to taste it right in front of them so they can address any concerns if you don't love your drink. read more
