Went Sunday the 31st. They only had 1 waitress took her about 15 min or so to reach our table mind you only 1 other couple was there. and her service was not bad however they made us aware the cook was behind and it would be about 30 min before our order was out. We order anyways our chilaquiles with eggs over easy when they came they eggs were well done and chilaquiles hard we requested new eggs took them an additional 20 min by that time my food was cold we asked for boxes and paid our bill and tipped the waitress. Just came back from Las Vegas last night and I didn't have a chance to try the David Chang Asian Mexican fusion at the cosmopolitan hotel ... BUT, as it turns out maybe I shouldn't! Desvelados (I translation must mean "definitively fabulous ") is a testament to a grandmother's recipes and the history of old traditions. I usually don't post menus but the menus say it all, and besides I'm too busy enjoying the delicious flavors. BTW the hostess Nancy is very gracious and the chef (yes, chef as his skill is more than just cooking ) prompt and on point. This is the cutest little place in Whittier. If you're in the mood for good tacos with tortillas hechas a mano, a beer, and some bomb ass snacks--look no further. They have a little bit of everything for everyone. I ordered La Mamalona which is like a quesadilla with carne asada and shrimp and guacamole. BOMB. I added the green salsa. Folks, even the homemade salsa bottles on the table were delicious. Everything we tried here was a hit and everyone left bursting at the seams. I'd like to add the service we received was EXCELLENT. She was extremely attentive to our party and even brought my mother in laws agua fresca fresh. The attention to detail she had, the ability to serve when she was the only person working-chefs kiss. Maybe don't come with a large group of friends because of how small the place is but do come hungry. I am not from the area but I was able to find street parking nearby with no problem. The waitress was very helpful and provided great service. She informed us that the alcohol they use for certain cocktails is Agave Wine. The food portions were a nice size and best part is HANDMADE TORTILLAS! If you know me, I am a huge sucker for fresh made tortillas. Ensenada taco (shrimp) is a 10/10! The shrimp were HUGE (not like other places) and the sauce they use is FIRE!!! Carnitas taco is a 10/10! The meat was tender (certain places they give you more fat than meat) and paired with their salsa was delicious Al Pastor taco is a 9/10...it would have been a solid 10 IF there was pineapple. Came here for the first time tonight. To be honest didn't have high expectations. Most taco places taste similar in the area. This one is definitely set apart from the rest. The 5 star reviews here are fake! This place was so shitty. We got there and it was empty, there was only one other group there (already a bad sign). They were out of most things on the menu and the server Daniel was a douche bag. We ordered our food from what was available and a round of Micheladas. Daniel the douchey server had offered us a round of green tea shots in exchange for a 5 star review (asked us like 4 times). We didn't do it until finally he offered us a beer in exchange. We talked him into a Michelada instead of a beer and he agreed. Cool. He brings over the Micheladas and there was no beer in them. It was all mix. Daniel is a scammy, deceitful douche. Came here for Valentine's Day and the ambience was so cute they had balloons and the lights were pink and very much the valentines vibe we were hoping for but not expecting. The food was also very yummy we had the asada fries and Mexican sushi which is basically just a skinny burrito chopped up but nonetheless a good experience for my nonsushi eating bf. Lol The drinks were also very yummy and were $14 each. The service was also very good. This is not elevated food, this is fun food, comfort food. This is food you want when you're up late and want to keep the party going. This is what you want when the party is winding down and the menudo is coming out. Desvelados is a place to go if you want fun tacos, fun drinks, and a good time with friends and family. I've been here twice in the past few weeks and plan to return. The service has been very friendly. Shout out to Teresa and the wonderful house made Aguas. The aguas are served in a massive stein and the jamaica is the perfect balance of not too sweet. There are many margaritas and micheladas to choose from, also very generous in size. The drinks are perfect pairings to the wide variety of crazy and decadent food options they have here. One of the reasons I want to return is to try the wide variety of options here. What we've been doing is ordering the Canasta de Los Pobres (10 small tacos, your choice of meat) and then ordering a few of the other options off the menu. My favorite by far is the Sinaloa taco, pork belly, pickled onions, and avocado with cheese. I've had a few more off the menu- all good,but the Sinaloa has been my favorite. Back to the Canasta. While they are small tacos, more traditional, and served with no frills, they are served with a generous amount of meat. I suggest ordering the pastor and remember to ask for the pineapple. I will no doubt be returning to try other items on the menu. I also have a feeling it will take a quite a few trips because the menu is massive. read more

I'm not sure how I feel about this place. I was in uptown Whittier for the day and we decided to check this place out. Outside it looks very inviting. Music playing, fun vibes. I really wanted to like it. The tables are pushed up against the walls for space, it's long and narrow. The food: I had a Sonora taco. I'd never had one before. I loved the concept of it. The pepper, Monterey cheese and meet in a corn tortilla- great idea. BUT.. the meat was dry as hell. The service: beyond slow. When we got there, it wasn't super busy. Our food took forever to come out, and they brought out my food separately from my husband's order. Weird. Then getting our bill took long, as did paying for the bill. Really fun place located in the heart of downtown Whittier. Prices are really good, portions are generous, service is friendly, convivial atmosphere. Food comes out fast. Food is super casual centered around- you guessed it- Tacos! The many types of tacos are inspired by Mexico street food, the small cafes and carts you see when you are in Mexico. It feels very nostalgic, but also modern at the same time with some crazy combos including Flamin' Hot Cheetos. This is modern/authentic too, believe it or not, very trendy in Mexican cities at the moment. We started with chips + guac and a couple drinks. La Paloma, a classic with tequila and here, a fiery rim, and a non-alcoholic Horchata. Both excellent. I ordered 2 ala carte tacos, one (ooops forgot the name) with grilled shrimp and one Tijuanero with carne asada, smothered in guacamole. They were just OK. Tortilla was a bit bland and floppy and though two different proteins, the taste was identical. Carne was tender but dry, had me craving a taco-truck taco- why can't street tacos be replicated on wheel-less establishments? I guess we'll never know- but I digress! I added plenty of lime, salt, all 3 of the salsas, and it was fine. I do love how you have all 3 salsas on your table: Hot, Green, Mild- all delicious! Pro-tip: Use with abandon! Companion got Carnitas and this was a winner- excellent:! So deeply flavorful, tender, juicy. Can't go wrong with Pork Carnitas. Back to the Chips and Guacamole- portion was very generous, chips came out hot- but tasted rather strange to me. What oil do they use? The scent of something- the oil?- wafts throughout the restaurant. I don't think its lard, I know lard. Lard is a-OK in my book especially for authentic Mexican. But I think this may have been a synthetic frying oil? Not sure. Again as with the tacos, I added additional lime / salt/ salasa and enjoyed nonetheless. Look there is a LOT to LOVE about Los Desvelados. Its a happy place full of young and old, couples and families, and they do a brisk takeout. The music is a bit loud for this older person, but most under 35 won't mind, I am sure. Service was friendly and efficient, save for our waiter who this evening was a bit distant/distracted. He passed our table many times, but never checked until the end of the meal and I thought I made clear we were ready for the check. It was taking quite a long time and then noted instead getting our check, he took a large family's order, and then stopped at another large-party table for a long time. I was desperate so I flagged another waiter to get the check. I hate doing that but I had no choice. I think if I return I will try other items like Quesadillas- those look really interesting. Overall if you are in Whittier, this is a great choice. It will fill you up at a reasonable price, and it will be a fun experience. I really did feel as though I was transported to Cabo.
