Tracy at the front desk was super helpful with check in and my questions about jewelry and what not. My one feedback and note would be to mention that visitors do have the option to "try-on" jewelry if they are torn between sizes or colors of jewelry because I think some newcomers wouldn't be aware they could do that if it's not mentioned. My friend asked to try a couple of jewel sizes and that was really helpful with decision making. (By try-on, you are just holding the jewelry piece up to yourself and checking yourself out in the mirror :P ) They offer titanium and gold jewelry here. Many beautiful pieces. They also sell saline spray (for $15 if I remember correctly) which I picked up since I was traveling and will be traveling again. Lacy pierced me and she was soooo amazing! She was really through with her explanations and I felt very comfortable with her. Everything went so smoothly and it was mostly painless - only a pinch in the process but no discomfort after the jewelry was already in. My friends and I left with super cute nostril piercings! Highly recommend this studio. Very grateful and happy with the experience here.

"Regarding your wait time, management confirmed it was significantly shorter than stated" - attached are photos at 6:20pm on 4/11/26 aka the time i went in & upon arrival i asked to use the restroom, i took a selfie amongst other pics & the date & time can be found on each one. When leaving, i was asked for my information & to enroll in ur $5 off coupon which was at 8:16pm on 4/11/26. almost exactly two hours, not sure which manager looked into that but i did not randomly chose that number. Consultation - Tabitha asked via phone if i was given the option or made aware of threadless vs threaded jewelry, i was not nor was I given the option between the two. (Im assuming since you guys only carry threadless anyways.) Lacy said the piercings could get expensive when downsizing multiple sizes & when custom jewelry becomes a thing (she gave me an example of hers that have a wide flat back) which i understood. I was never told the jewelry on hand would be so flimsy or else i would have left with a spare set. or why wouldnt that be offered if its a known thing that theyre just going to break soon after? "our management team has reached out multiple times" - Tabitha called me on 4/20/26 at 2:03pm post yelp review & asking me to elaborate which i did. she apologized & said she would investigate & immediately followed up asking if i could "take down the yelp review" I initially agreed but im so glad i didnt. All that was asked of me was to pick a date & time & she will have someone replace the jewelry that broke at the el monte location but she would have to call me back & let me know if there was someone at that location who COULD do it & that she would call back. when she called back at 2:38pm 4/20/26 she stated ordering a threaded set would take 6-8 weeks & that she will order my downsize. we agreed on that solution & hungup. Then 4/28/26 Tabitha texts me & there was no solution so we could agree on so thanked her & left it at that (screenshots attached as well) "waived fees" - crazy cause you guys swear this is something special. when i get my nails done & one breaks theyre quick to fix it FOR FREE & not keep reminding me that breakage could happen nor badgering me that IM at fault for it/knew the risks. Theres no fee to waive if i want to put the jewelry in my own face for free which you guys denied me of because u didnt want to mail them to me. "we offered appointments at our other locations with free parking lots" - text attached of Tabithas convo but she definitely stated STREET parking, exactly how the LA location is so.. not sure where the "Convenience & Options" were. sorry it came to this Leo, maybe ask both sides next time instead of just listening to one.

Today, it has been 3 days since we got the tattoo and although the tattoo itself is small, has fine lines, and is on the wrist, it appears as if it has a smear/smudge on one of the corners on both tattoos. This isn't my first tattoo, and my husband and I have been following the after care and have been careful. It's on the healing stage, but you can tell that the corner line differs and there is a smudged area on both tattoos. For both these it was $240 total and done by Chris. I will update this review once the tattoos heal completely.

I was definitely giving toddler energy by kicking my feet and asking questions and she totally entertained every second of it. We talked about movies, tv shows, travel, music, etc. The conversation totally helped distract from the pain and before i knew it the session was over. I thought parking would be tough, but i went on a Saturday afternoon and found parking relatively easily a block away on Lake Shore Ave. The quality of work is top notch and my tattoo came out exactly as i wanted it to. Strongly recommend!

He wanted double bands around his forearm and Sam was able to sketch it out and do the tattoo on the same day. We were in and out within 1.5 hours. He explained the process and aftercare which made getting a tattoo seamless and less daunting. I was on the fence about getting a tattoo but my friend said if he got one I would have to get one too. I decided to get a runner with an ekg as I thought it was fitting for me. I wanted something small for my first tattoo and easily to keep hidden from my mom (sorry mom). He asked me to send him a picture of what I wanted and scheduled an appointment for Monday at 11am. Once Monday came I walked over and signed the consent form. He then printed out the tattoo and placed the outline on my chest and asked me if it was where I wanted it. Being a tattoo noob I trusted his judgement. After letting the outline dry I laid down and he began working on the piece. He said since it was a small tattoo and mainly lines there shouldn't be much pain and the healing process wouldn't be as long. It took about 30 mins to finish up the tattoo and the quality came out amazing. There was no pain at all and he went over the aftercare as well. I showed Sam this other tattoo I wanted and he said he would be able to do that as well. He says his art style is realism and anime so I can't wait to get more work done by him. He has been tattooing for 2 years now along with his apprenticeship. He told me to message him when I'm ready for my next piece. Maybe this tattoo thing is an addiction and will keep you coming back for more.

I first met Shane Louie, the owner, when I was looking for an artist for my second ever tattoo. A friend and I went up and down the beach talking to different artists with a simple black outline of a hibiscus flower with a bluebird. We wanted to scope out the shops, get a sense of artists, check pricing and schedule an appointment. We met a couple cool artists but it was clear from the second I met Shane that he was by far the most serious, clean, talented, passionate and professional artist of them all. He seemed genuinely interested in the design and was as into its perfection as I was. I didn't have that much experience with the tattoo industry, but now that I know a bit more I realize how rare it is for someone to be that focused on the quality of the art and so little concerned with the money-making aspect. He is just so obviously passionate about the art for art's sake and doing what he loves - this reflects in the quality of his tattoos. I only had a black outline and a vague idea of the coloring I wanted, and he worked with me to pick colors and add techniques like shading and filling, and even suggested adding details like a stem to the flowers and raindrops. I wanted to finish up the tattoo that night since I wasn't familiar with the concept of a multi-session tattoo. But it was clear that the coloring would need another session. So Shane had me reschedule a second session, just to make sure it was perfect. I was a little hesitant at first because I thought I'd have to pay more, but he was very clear that the price he had quoted me was for the whole piece. I thought this was incredibly fair and honest of him, and I realized that he didn't even need to give me the second session, but just did it because he knew a couple more hours would make the color and lines even better. Since meeting him that first time, I always look forward to stopping by DevOcean and saying hi whenever I'm in the neighborhood. Shane and his artists create such a nice diverse and professional vibe. I have been in there for example when moms come in with babies, when older people come in, young people, out-of-towners, all different races and ages, etc. - just all different kinds of people come in and it's impossible to typecast the 'type' of customers you'll see there. There is no pretension in the shop, it's an extremely cool place but most of all it's so down to earth and friendly. There is a warm cozy atmosphere and none of the skeezy sort of vibe like with loud angry music or grumpy looking people scaring off passers-by. It's really clean, plays great music, has a collaborative vibe, and has amazing beautiful art all over the walls that Shane and his artists actually paint themselves. I have since learned that this is a really good sign when the tattoo artists are also so passionate about art in general that they also produce other mediums like paintings. Another nice and unique thing about DevOcean is that the artists don't necessary look like the stereotype of a tattoo artist, but rather come across as clean, healthy, and in good shape. Shane has laid-back confidence and talent and creates that attractive vibe. It's also clear the artists really get along well and support and encourage each other. This comes with a group of quality artists who have been producing excellent tattoo art for years. I have nothing but good things to say or think about DevOcean Studio. Every time I'm there, there seem to be nice people getting really sophisticated big and interesting designs. I definitely intend to come back as soon as I figure out a little more what I want my next piece to be. I know that working with Shane it will be totally unique and of the most excellent quality. He has already started emailing me suggested designs just based on a comment i mentioned once about wanting a chinese dragon on my back. read more

One thing that I try to explain to all of my friends who are thinking about getting their first tattoo, is that the experience is just as important as the design or the quality of work. There is nothing worse than looking at a beautiful piece of work that has great importance to you and thinking only of the prick who gave it to you. This was NOT the case at Devocean!!! I HAVE NEVER HAD A BETTER EXPERIENCE AT A TATTOO SHOP IN MY LIFE!!! I was visiting Venice about a year and a half ago, and I went into every shop in Venice looking thru books and talking to artists about my idea. All the shops on the boardwalk were dissapointing and I was walking back to my brothers house when I found Devocean. There was some beautiful original artwork in the window that really spoke to the style of my tattoo idea. I went in and was greeted by Shane, the owner of the shop. The only way to describe Shane is that he is the Bruce Lee of tattoos. I have never met anyone who has more passion about all the things he does and he has an unrivaled work ethic. He was very nice from the second that I walked through the door and even more so when I told him my idea for a half sleeve. Shane was just as excited about my idea as I was and it was clear that I found the one person in the world who was meant to do the piece. He did everything he could to make sure he could get me in the shop and get the work done before i left CA and also took his time to make sure that it was the greatest piece of art it could be. Shane has a soft hand and is as friendly as can be. Since my first devocean experience, I have moved from Boston to Venice, and have spent more time at the shop than anywhere else. I have sent a number of friends to the shop and all of them have been more than satisfied with everything from the final product to the price to the atmosphere of the shop. Devocean really is a gem. I lived in Los Angeles in the 80s and returned with my husband John of three years who also lived in Los Angeles in the 80s. During our trip from Atlanta, Georgia, I was hoping to enhance my Rose tattoo initially created in the 90s on the Venice Beach Boardwalk. As my husband and I were traveling to have dinner in Marina Del Rey, I caught a glimpse of sinage that read "Tattoo/Open" and shared with my husband that I desired to return after dinner. We did return and we were graciously greeted by a young enthusiasticly pleasant young lady named Issy [pronounced Izzy]. It was 8:45pm and I asked her what time the shop closed. She said 9 o'clock, but if I wanted my tattoo enhancement done she would stay after nine. I am here to say we were met at DevOcean with excellent customer service and the artwork idea Issy and I discussed came out better than I had imagined. During the procedure, she was gracious enough to oblige my inquisitiveness and shared part of her life which was quite impressive as she is not only formally educated, but her creativity/talent was only matched by her delightfully kind personality. I believe Issy will have a successful artistic future ahead of her and I hope her journey will take her to the opitomy of her life's dreams. If you need a good tattoo, there are plenty of places in LA to get that. If you need a GREAT tattoo, there is only one place and that is at DevOcean Tattoo. I just had a session that lasted a little over 4 hours with Shane, he did a very complicated tattoo with a huge amount of detail. Most parts had to be done in free hand on account of the location and type of tattoo, so after a lot of research on different artists and their style I picked Shane. I made the right choice for sure! Shane is by far the best and most talented artist I've ever met and on top of that, he is a really nice person. He has a light hand so anyone who's afraid of the pain will be in good hands with Shane, in fact, I think everyone would be. His work is solid and I am very pleased with the result, amazing work done for a great price and at a speed that few can match. I need to get back to Denmark in a few days, the tattoo needs to get some colour added once it's healed up. I will not let any other artist touch this work, so expect me to be back next year! My friend and I just got tattoos by Christian and they look so fabulous I can hardly stand it. He was able to take us the day we called and was extremely friendly on the phone, as was Shane who I spoke to first. Christian worked with me to choose the best design, color and placement on my body based on the reference pictures I brought in. I trusted his expert advice as to what would look good as a tattoo instead of a drawing, and I am so glad I did because it looks a million times better than I was imagining. He really knows his stuff and is so warm and friendly. Quite a talented artist. I loved the feel of the shop as well. Professional, clean and creative. Intriguing pictures line the walls, amazing music was playing--adding to the excitement. I had a permanent smile on my face the whole time. Well done, DevOcean! and thank you. This shop is amazing! It has a great vibe and is very welcoming with its incredible service. I did my research and decided to come to Devocean to get my first tattoo- and I haven't been able to stop coming back for more tattoos since. I had Cristian as my artist and he does incredible work. He's very patient and talented; I get multiple compliments on my tattoos and wouldn't go to anyone else. I highly recommend him because he does some truly beautiful work and makes the visit very pleasant and relaxing. I couldn't be happier with my experiences at Devocean. It's the absolute best place to get inked and Cristian is an amazing artist who can make your dream tattoos come to life. I was tattoo by Shane at Devocean just over a year ago, and I strongly recommend getting work done there. I went in to see if I could get a piece covered (getting tattooed in Vegas isn't always a good idea). I knew it was going to be a challenge because I wanted to cover black lettering with a large rose. I was unsure if it would be possible, but Shane reassured me that he could turn my mistake into something beautiful. He wasn't lying! It was a great experience from start to finish! Shane and everyone else who works there are very friendly and knowledgeable. They even allowed me to put on my own music. I have gotten work done at many different shops, but I will only get tattooed by Shane from now on! The shop is a four hour drive away from my house, but it is worth the drive. I got my third tattoo by Christian and was very pleased. He is very patient, talented and highly creative in regards to giving you the tattoo you want. I came in knowing what I wanted, but with the help of Christian, he made sure the location/font/text was exactly what I wanted and it exceeded my expectations. Not only does he make you feel comfortable, but he works with you ensuring that you leave happy without any doubts. These guys are great! My wife and I first started going to Shane a couple of years ago. We love his work and he's so eager to please. My only regret is that every tattoo on my body isn't by Shane. Had I known then what I know now, he would have been my guy from day one. Everything he's done for us has been completely custom. We never second guess his vision and he doesn't hesitate to use our bodies as canvases to his works of genius. I think we'll be slaves to his creativity and imagination for years to come. I'm just leaving another negative review for this shop, as Shane responded to my last post saying that my comment wasn't true. If this situation wasn't true, I wouldn't be on Yelp to talk about it. No need to waste time with false negative reviews, I just wanted my tattoo done. I paid a deposit 5 months ago to get the artwork started for a tattoo. I've never received or seen any artwork, though I've asked many times. If Shane really did the artwork as he claimed on my last post, I invite to post it publicly on here. I would love to see it. I gave up on this place and moved onto another shop that communicates and responds properly. read more

My friend recommended the shop to me b/c Cristian did a great tat on her. I couldn't have been happier with the results of the dragon tat on my thigh. Cristian was very professional, a great artist, and a really nice guy. He made the long sit comfortable and pleasant. The resulting piece is amazing and I can't stop looking at it. The shop has a great vibe with really cool art on the walls. Shane did a really cool Asian shoulder re-do for my friend the same day and it looks amazing. I'm from Arizona and have been getting tattoos for about 10 years now. When I moved to California I found Shane and DevOcean while hanging out in Venice. Over the past year I have got tattooed by Shane 6 times. My fiance has now been tattooed by Shane 4 times as well..Every tattoo Shane has done for us we've been 100% satisfied with on every level of art, detail, price, and professionalism. I sent one of my friends in to get tattooed by one of his artists (sorry cant remember his name) and she was 100% happy as well and the tattoo looked great. Gr8 little studio on the beach! Very friendly! I got a killer black and grey tattoo. I've been coming here for years! My girlfriend got a finger tattoo. He explained that finger and hand tattoos most likely will need a touch up. Which makes sense those areas are a different type of skin. I can't believe so many people on here don't understand that. Hahaha **I wouldn't listen to any review that is crying about a touch up (ESPECIALLY ON FINGERS OR HANDS). Those are up-tight NEWBIES who don't know anything about tattoos! Thanks again for the ink! Came across DevOcean while leaving Venice Beach. I love the fact they are a few blocks away from the strip. Walked in and was greeted immediately by anthony / Shank who was friendly and more than happy to go over my needs for a tattoo to ensure I was completely satisfied and took the time to answer my questions. In a recent trip I took to Venice beach I stopped in for a nose piercing. Antony was great! The shop was clean, organized and very inviting, nice music playing too! I saw his work and was sold! I got a very difficult intricate tattoo and the artist nailed it. Some people don't understand how tattoos work. Intricate work like I got can take many sessions. Hard to heal areas like hands, feet, wrist, Especially fingers! It's part of getting ink! Don't get a tattoo if you don't understand this. Shop is clean with lots of paintings that he painted himself. Parking can be a bitch on Saturdays. So I started making my appointments on the weekdays it was much easier. read more
