Mostly sauced but there are also several (usually at least 10) dry rubbed options are available. Let's get into this wing heaven... Basic, Not So Basic, and Basically Ridiculous are the main categories. Had to get a Basic, to play it safe and had to get a Basically Ridiculous because I'm a foodie and like to take a walk on the wild side. Then of course I got some wings that were in-between, lol. I can tell these flavors were carefully crafted, tested and tasted. The most unusual unexpectedly good ones like Chocolate Habanero and Peanut Butter and Jelly were favorites. I think if you play it safe, you won't get the full experience of the Dew Drop Inn wings. We got waffle fries just to break up the 30+ wings that were ordered. They were really good and needed. I hear the other sides are just okay, but we didn't try them... The last category was dessert wings... I'm daring but not that daring lol even tho I'm sure they are good. The menu changes seasonally. Some classics remain, New flavors are added and some are taken away. It's worth the trip. There is a commuter parking lot about 1/2 block up the hill with ample parking. Customer service was great. I have two CT Best Wings Categories: (1) Buffalo; and (2) All Other Sauces. Dew Drop Inn is my favorite CT Wing Place in the All Other Sauces Category. They have other food too, but I'm there for the wings, beer and cool vibes. Before you go to DDI, I recommend having a sauce/rub strategy. Seriously! By my count, they presently have 24 Flavors in the "Basic" Flavor Menu Section, 66 Flavors in the "Not So Basic" Section, 22 Flavors in the "Basically Ridiculous" Section and 6 Flavors in the "Dessert" Section. Basic includes (1) sauces such as BBQ, Asian Glaze, Buffalo and Honey Mustard, and (2) rubs such as Cajun Spice, Lemon Pepper and Montreal. "Not So Basic" includes flavors such as Honey Hot, Taco Butter, Cucumber Wasabi, Parm Butter Garlic, Mango Pineapple Habanero and Strawberry Balsamic. "Basically Ridiculous" includes things such as Peanut Butter and Jelly, Nacho and Jalapeño Cream Cheese. "Dessert wings" include S'Mores and Black Forrest. I've now been to DDI enough times that I've been able to de-code the menu a bit. Many of the flavors combine a wing spice rub with a sauce type. The various Cajun flavors all have a base Cajun spice rub. Cajun BBQ flavor is a Cajun spice rubbed wing, dressed with the BBQ sauce. Similarly, Honey, Garlic, Butter and Bacon are added in various combinations to make basic flavors more complex ones. There are so many seemingly crazy flavor combinations, that you may believe the sauces are gimmicks to cover mediocre wings. That is not the case - at all. DDI's chicken wings are unimpeachable. They're meaty, tender inside and perfectly crispy on the outside. They are seriously "best chicken wings in the state" good. I'm embarrassed to admit that I get stressed out choosing wing flavors at DDI. I visit DDI so infrequently that I don't want to ruin a great wing experience with a bad sauce choice. But there is another part of me that wants to try the crazy flavors to see what works. With that said, I've settled on the following DDI ordering strategy. First, I only order in 6 wing increments so I can try as many sauces as possible. Second, I always order one flavor I love. For example, today, I ordered the Kickass Bayou, which is vaguely in the same sauce family as Buffalo sauce, but it's creamier and more Louisiana-ish. It's outstanding. Three, I always order something new. On previous trips, I've learned that the popular peanut butter and jelly flavor and the bacon, butter, parm, garlic flavor don't really work for me. Today, I learned that I love Cajun Butter BBQ. Four, I order a side or two (available for a small extra charge) of other wing sauces for celery dip so I can scout flavors for future visits. I enjoyed the cucumber wasabi today, although I'll probably use it as a side sauce in the future. Five, I look at the flavor choices before I go to DDI and narrow things down to about 10 possibilities so I don't make a bad random choice on the spot. The place is small , but the vibe was great . I met some locals and had some great conversations while waiting on my desired wings for the night . The menu as described by others is huge in flavors . Over 100 types of wings plus a menu of salads , burgers and dinners this place is more than normal. I had a fantastic waitress who was very attentive and helped me decide as a "newbie" what my flavor of wings to start with. I chose the maple bacon butter and the pink peppercorn with lemon curd (to go) so I can eat the lemon ones a little later. Not sure how this place is named best wings in CT. I've been there twice, once two summers ago and the other this past week. The wings are dry at the center with an aftertaste of stale cardboard. Ambiance : Parking is limited and on a narrow street. We backed into the limited parking space adjacent to the restaurant/bar. The seating is limited and can get pretty full quick. It is a typical bar scene with tvs. They have a long L shaped bar and high tables. Service: we arrived around 1pmish, and as soon as we walked in, the waitress greeted us. She was upbeat and friendly. She gave us two options to sit at the bar or a long table with bar stools. We chose the bar. The 1st time we went, we sat at the long table and felt we had no leg support, and her feet were dangling off the bar stool. Food: we came for the wings. They have a large selection of unique wing sauces we wanted to try. My boyfriend is a heat seeker and dares to try their ghostly habanero, which we were told were their hottest wings. We also ordered Parmesan Butter Bacon Garlic (omg! This is the next level. The amount of fresh garlic on this is, and the creamy parm sauce so delicious ), Orange Ginger BBQ, and last was Bourbon Glaze. The Orange Ginger BBQ was very saucy, and you could taste the ginger and orange notes coming through the BBQ sauce. I wanted to try their Irish Stout glazed wings, but we were told they were out. So I went for the Bourbon Glaze. Which was lacking in flavor on the wings. The sauce, which was mostly on the plate, had a great flavor. Don't get me wrong. The flavor was delicious. Suggestion: if they would fry the wings with the sauce and then glaze it again like the J.Timothy Tavernes method....only for the glazed wings, so the flavor profile is more pronounced. My boyfriend was able to manage eating his Ghostly Habanero wings. The heat was manageable for him, and he didn't need any milk or ice cream. As the waitress/bartender did advise, they do not have. Very difficult to choose what you want, but it's good to have options. Now when it comes to fries you get a couple options, curly and waffle. I went with curly, they were really good fries and nice and crisp. The wings were really good, as I was expecting for a place rated bezt in the state for their wings. Overall the food, wings and service at Dew Drop are good, I'd say the rating fluctuates between 3.5 and 4.5 stars depending on the visit. The servers are super friendly and attentive, the wings are some of the best in the business when they're made correctly and the sandwiches/wraps are pretty high quality. The downfall to this place are the inconsistencies and the price. First, I've been to Dew Drop 5 times over the past year and always have to get at least 6 medium buffalo wings. The wings are almost never the same each time i've been, whether it be the amount of sauce on the wings, the size of the wings (generally a smaller wing compared to other spots), or just straight up not getting the what i ordered. Second, the prices here are just ridiculous for what you get. The wraps and sandwiches are all around $19, which is the priciest dive bar food i've seen. the wraps are quality, but to pay $4-5 more than comparable bars doesn't make sense to me. Dew Drop Inn is a neighborhood bar and restaurant that opened in Derby, Connecticut in the 1960s. It was founded by brothers James Bernard White Sr. and Pat White. The bar was originally located just down the street at 237 Roosevelt Drive, directly across from the Williams Typewriter Company. For several years, the Dew Drop was a favorite watering hole for the factory workers who would often come in for a burger and a beer. By 2006 the old mill was shuttered, the Dew Drop had moved to its current location, and the new owner was Bronx-native Jay Carlucci. Carlucci completely reinvented the Dew Drop. Although the bar had a reputation for being a "biker bar" for several years, those bikers were now joined by college students, families and tourists. The menu would now consist of award-winning chicken wings and an impressive list of craft beer on tap and in cans. Connecticut Magazine named the Dew Drop Inn the Best Wings Restaurant in Connecticut in 2018, while Esquire Magazine gave them the same title in 2021. I recently stopped in at Dew Drop one evening for dinner. I've eaten there a few times before, but not since before the pandemic. The place has a nice cozy, neighborhood bar feel. Although they make other classic pub fare, you have to go for the wings. The wings menu is ridiculous: 118 flavors (the largest I've ever seen)! After thumbing through all the combos I decided to order six Apple Bourbon BBQ wings, six Peanut Butter & Bacon wings, and six Jalapeño Cream Cheese wings. The Apple Bourbon BBQ wings had great BBQ flavor with a nice sweetness from the apples and a little kick from the bourbon. The Jalapeño Cream Cheese wings are made with fresh chopped jalapeños which made my nose sting from the spicy oils, but the cream cheese balanced out the heat. My favorite wings were the Peanut Butter & Bacon, which are served with Fluff dipping sauce instead of the usual Blue Cheese. To wash everything down, I enjoyed pours of "Gentle On My Mind" (IPA) by Housatonic River Brewing, "Kegnog" (Milkshake IPA) by Grey Sail Brewing, and "Shoegazer!"
