Diablo Burger was a thoroughly disappointing experience. First, the staff were all cheerful, friendly, and helpful, and this review has nothing to do with them. It purely regards the food and the dining experience. I'm sad to say, after coming here on recommendation, that the burgers my friend and I received were overcooked, bland, hilariously tiny, and outrageously overpriced. The menu explains that the restaurant uses 95% fat free beef, and in order to have it as juicy as possible, you should order it rarer than usual. This demonstrates a thorough misunderstanding of how meat is cooked, and that was evident in the poor quality of burger we received. I ordered medium rare, while my friend ordered medium; in both cases we received something approximating well done. I'm not exaggerating when I say we've eaten tastier burgers at McDonald's, and for one fifth the price. I honestly can't get over how much this place is charging for what they give you. I paid over $20 after tax and tip for a burger smaller than an English muffin, a bunch of burnt, stubby fries, and a single 8 oz bottle of diet Coke. Unfortunately, the majority of the restaurant's dining area is outside, which means that in poor weather all customers are relegated to the tiny, cramped space indoors, which includes a small bar and a few awkwardly arranged high tables, and for all of these there is only one seating option: the most uncomfortable stool I have had the displeasure of sitting on in my life. I'm not kidding when I say my entire pelvic region was numb by the time I left. Overall, it was a terrible experience that I won't care to repeat, and if anyone asks me where to get a delicious, juicy burger, I'd point them to McDonald's before I point them here. read more

This is by far the BEST burger place in Flagstaff. It definitely is pricey and well worth it. Everyone is always friendly, and food always comes out exactly as I order. Since it is grass fed beef, I order my burger medium. Anything over that can make it too dry. It's so juicy, so much flavor and I can order with a gluten free English muffin. There are so many variations you can get with the burger or you can create your own special burger. I love that we can sit outside on a nice day or sit inside if the weather is bad. Inside seating is a little more limited, and that's okay. I have no issues sitting with others if the place is packed which occasionally happens because of how amazing this place is. If you're not from Flagstaff, then you may not understand the wait. It takes time to prepare and cook each order to perfection. I've been coming here for 7 years now. Always worth it each time! We were craving burgers during our stay in Flagstaff and Diablo kept coming up on Yelp and "best of" lists so we decided to give it a try after a long day of hiking and checking out the Grand Canyon. First of all, the service here is really stellar even though it's a casual place. We were warmly greeted and checked on throughout our meal. I ordered the Wrigley Field (sharp cheddar, grilled onions, bacon, spicy sauce) and my partner got the Db House (blacking spice, homemade pesto, overeasy egg). Both were excellent and came with the most addicting fries and dips (special sauce and chimichuri). A fraction of a fraction of a star off because I asked for my burger cooked medium and it was definitely more rare than I typically like but it was just so damn delicious that I'll concede that they made my burger better than I asked for it ;) Seating is counter height at communal tables or the bar. Staff was rude, unpleasant and unprofessional. Burgers were all ordered medium rare. What we got was raw and cold, asked staff to cook them longer. They simply argued with us about the definition of medium rare. I asked for them to at least be cooked and warm. Burgers come back some were done correctly others were still raw and cold. For their prices I expect qood quality food cooked to MY liking not theirs and for the staff to be courteous, polite and professional, none of that occured. They have a huge list of craft burgers to select as well as French fries with your choice of artisan sauce. I selected the Wrigley burger. Coming with grilled onions, cheese, green chilies and I forget what else; it was absolute perfection. The burgers dont come on regular buns, rather what looks like English muffins. Whatever it is works. The fries weren't really my thing as they were kinda soggy. They state that they are Belgian fries, but they arent technically. We came for the burgers and it was the burgers that we got. Each "DB Burger" has 6oz. of "100% local, open range-raised, antibiotic-free, and growth hormone-free beef." Whatever... Is it juicy? Yes, it is. Then I'm happy. Medium-rare is the recommendation for all DB Burgers, so, we stuck with it. English Muffins branded with DB replace the traditional hamburger bun and all burgers came with a slice of Tomato, Lettuce, and a Pickle. Sharing the burger basket is a pile of DB Frites that are double-fried in Peanut Oil and coated with a blend of herbs. Since the fries are fresh-cut and flavorful, they were as addictive to me as adderall is to Lindsay Lohan. * DB Daddy Kane Burger ($12.25) - 4 stars Bacon and Sharp Cheddar make everything better. The DB Special Sauce wasn't so special while the pickle didn't match the bacon at all. This place was a total let down unfortunately. The burgers had the perfect ingredients but the patties were so bland and flavorless. Tried the Blake and the Señor Smoke burger...both were ordered medium rare. The Senior Smoke burger was not too bad but the Blake came out really rare...that was gross. Tasted like it came out the fridge. When I asked to get it cooked rare instead, they put it back on the same bloody bread from the original order. 2.5 Stars Vacation time! We were headed to New Mexico and on our way up, we decided to stop at Diablo Burger. I had read about it here on Yelp, as well as some other sites. It sounded like they put out a pretty fine burger. We parked on the street and walked over. This spot is a bit hard to find if you have never been here. Its through the red door on the outside of the building, kind of down the alley near the Crepe place. Once inside, I placed my order. I went with a create my own Green Chile Cheeseburger...meat, green chile and pepper jack cheese and that's it. Total was $13.50 which is a tad steep for a burger and fries. Would it be good? You shall soon find out.......... Green Chile Cheeseburger- I decided to go for a minimalist approach. I just wanted meat, cheese and green chile. They stuff these toppings in between an english muffin. Unique, and it works well. I had my burger cooked medium and it came out fine (it was a bit more medium rare but it was still fine by me). The burgers are 6 oz grass fed beef patties. You could tell that this was some great beef! They use high quality stuff. The green chiles were good but a bit skimp...same with the slice of cheese. The meat was definitely the star of the show. These burgers also come with fries. The fries fresh cut and cooked up perfect. They season them with rosemary (I am NOT a rosemary fan at all) but very lightly. They were pretty tasty. I would get them without the rosemary though next time....if there is ever a next time (see below). Everything sounds good, right? Why only 2 stars then? A few things....... price. The burger was mighty fine, but not almost $14.00 fine! The biggest thing though was the kitchens error. My wife likes her burgers cooked with no pink at all (well done). She ordered hers well done and the cashier even stated "That is going to be cooked throughout, even a little tough maybe." My wife said, "That is fine...that's how I like them". Well, her burger comes out, she takes a bite of it and its dripping with red and its pink in the middle. My wife won't eat it. She tells the waitress and she takes it back to the kitchen. A few minutes later, another burger comes out and this one is pink in the middle too. Third times the charm... After taking it back again, they finally brought her a burger that was cooked to her liking. By that time, she was kind of over the place to begin with. She ate most of it but didn't finish it. How hard is it to cook a burger well done? It shouldn't take 3 times to get it right. To the staffs credit, they did apologize profusely, gave us a free basket of fries while we waited for the burger to be cooked and really wanted us to enjoy our meal. For that, I give them credit. It should have never gotten to that point in the first place though. Overall, great beef, excellent customer service trying to rectify a bad situation, but I doubt I would come back. The chairs are uncomfortable for a person with a big ass (myself), the burgers are too pricey, plus I don't think I will be coming back through Flagstaff anytime soon. I came in and got takeout here, I was surprised by how small is was inside, but excited to try the food. Their veggie burger sounded awesome, but i was in the mood for pesto so I decided to try out the grilled cheese with an egg on top. My sister's boyfriend got a burger and I was shocked by how expensive it was! But it must be very good to be worth it. We had given a phone number to reach us when the meal was ready, but they never called us! We went back and our food had been ready for a while I think. I really liked my grilled cheese! The egg was a delicious touch. I wasn't a huge fan of the cheese outside of the bread, but overall I really liked the sandwich, yum! What's the rave!? Okay so this place was popping with a line as I attended with a friend after a good hike at Humprey's. I would say we waited a good 20 minutes, but didn't feel bad at all. The place is tiny but the host and wait staff does a great job moving people in and out of the restaurant and rearranging seating space! I ordered the Senor Smoke for my burger with a craft IPA. My burger came with grilled onions, avocado, bacon, cilantro & sriracha mayo on a what I believe is a toasted egg muffin as the bun. Overall, the burger is pretty solid and cooked just right to order. The bun was definitely new and different and added a special element to my burger experience. The onions caramelized and jelled with the smooth avocado, while the salty bacon and sriracha mayo gave it a sweet and spicy punch. Three and a half stars. We came here on the way back to PHX from the grand canyon based on a recommendation. On the menu it has a bit about how their meat is the best, the care they take for your individual burger, and why they don't credit cards, all a bit unnecessary. In my opinion, the food will speak for itself. We all ordered our burgers medium rare but only 2-3 out of 8 came out red. Because they use lean meat, the burger dries out quickly - so eat it FAST while it's HOT! Also not a fan of how their house made "ketchup" is cold. I am being very very nice with my rating. I expected so much more from this place. I am extremely disappointed... The only reason my rating is at 2 stars is because of the friendliness of the cashier/bartender that rang me up for my to-go order on this extremely busy Friday. I felt awkward standing in front of peoples tables waiting to pick up my not much bigger than slider type burgers with not that much flavor. The burger was decent i definitely have had better especially when i have grown up in the bay area most of my life. Diablo Burgers are definitely worth it. We ordered our burgers well done. The hostess even told us that since the meats are more lean than fats. That was nice. But we stayed with our choice. The meat was still very juicy! The burgers are full of flavor. We were a little apprehensive with this size of the burger but it still will fill you up after a long day. Found this place on Yelp being we were passing through and saw some great ratings and reviews and decided to take a chance. WOW.......the concept of what they do and their philosophy of where their food comes from (Local area as much as possible), their sustainability is awesome and they are very accomodating. We each had a burger. When our friends got their burger, it comes on an english muffin which they were surprised about but that is the house bread. One bite and all I heard out of them was "OH WOW, AMAZING". It was seeing a new experience happening in front of us.... The fries that come with the burgers have a herb de Provence which I was told tasted AMAZING... I follow paleo so of course I did not get a bun or fries but they do substitute a salad made with Organic greens, beets, blue cheese & tomatoes. They even explain the difference in temperature for your burger based on the meat being lean compared to other places. All four of us agreed this place is 5 stars and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome, help you through the menu since they are a little different then the usual burger joint....HAHAHA, NOTHING LIKE THE USUAL at all. They are setting the pace others should follow. We went with my bro and his wife and all 4 of us loved our burgers, we got them cooked as recommended and added the fried egg. Delicious. I got mine Ziggy Stardust and created my own with Green Chile and a grilled avocado with Jack Cheese. I also got the spicy mustard with my fires...also the fry basket is massive. With the thickness of the burger steeling bites was rough. Cooking it medium rare was smart, it was right and perfect. I was only drinking water, it's probably best to come here during a week day because there are only four tables inside and the rest of the seating is out of doors which was perfect on the day. Hard to find, and worth the search! Some locals helped us find the miniature entrance and it led to a tiny utopia of grass fed beef burgers and beet laden house salad! My sister and I split the señor smoke burger and the house salad and it was a great amount of food. Now, if we were famished then we would have needed to get our own, as the burgers are fairly small. The burgers come with rosemary fries, which have a nice flavor, but ours were pretty floppy. I'm not a floppy fry eater. To each their own I suppose. The salad is a must, it's super tasty and light.
