The food here is the real deal. Dishes that you would never think would taste amazing based on their simplicity were the STAR of the show! Pasta with simple ingredients like tomatoes & basil was a top favorite. Soup with beans and Italian sausage was great. Everyone left here stuffed. The tiramisu and steak was just alright, but the atmosphere with the decor and small feel was beyond perfect to make you feel like you were in a little place in Italy.
Heard this place had the best Italian in the city. It did not disappoint. My wife and I were seated on the second level, which I felt like removed us from the energetic and vibing atmosphere on the first level. But honestly, we didn't come for the atmosphere, we came for the food. The bread and oil was fresh. The gnocchis are huge giant pillows, but still go down light. The scampi was super flavorful. The tiramisu had great flavor. All the employees went out of their way to make sure we had an enjoyable experience. We will look forward to coming here again!
Friday dinner here while in town for the weekend. I had originally made a reservation for 10 just in case the baseball game ran over, but received a call that earlier times had opened up. We moved the reservation to 9 and came there shortly before. To start, we ordered the bread and whipped ricotta, as well as the brussel sprouts. The bread was massive and the whipped ricotta was a nice touch. The brussel sprouts were also good - served with a sweet glaze and thick cubed pork belly. For my entree I ordered the gnocchi and meatballs which was incredibly large. The gnocchi were the size of rectangular pillowed donut holes. They almost were the same size as the meatballs. The sauce was also nicely seasoned and had a good flavor. I also added a half size of the cacio e Pepe. Easily one of the top 5 places I have had this dish. The sauce was perfectly flavored with pepper, plenty of sauce so it didn't stick to the pasta and become just a clumped mess - and the right size. For dessert I ordered the berry brown butter pastry. This was a perfect size and packed great flavor. Multi-leveled but still bright while being rich. I liked this place - can be loud, but they also have outdoor seating. My only wish would be that you could order pizza from Davide which is attached to the back of this location.
Located near The Strip and only a half block from the bus stop. Lovely two story with dining areas on both levels. Beautifully decorated to look like you are eating in Italy. Friendly servers. Nice wine selection with very decent prices. They give you fresh bread and a small plate of olive oil with balsamic drizzle to dip the bread. That was delicious. Would have been five stars except my Stuffed Shells were served slightly warm ish. But they tasted good. Would have been fabulous if it was served hot and fresh. Their homemade meatballs are good but a little too dense. We ordered a glass of Super Tuscan and a glass of Cab Sav. The Cab Sav was delicious. Ended the meal with tiramisu for my birthday. I enjoyed every bite. We hear this place has good lunch. We will be back to try that menu. * 8 photos
We came as a group of ten to celebrate Mother's Day for my wife, Mother-in-law, and Sister-in-law. There is both a downstairs and an upstairs as seating areas. The place has a clean Italian look. We started out with bread and oil, greens and beans, asparagus. For meals we all ordered some type of pasta. You can't miss on any of the pasta dishes. I along with others, had gnocchi. Others had spaghetti, shrimp scampi, and lasagna. The service was really good. Mila and her team did a great job taking care of us.
Absolutely stellar experience and time at DiAnoia's Eatery. Wonderful service, delicious food and drinks, every single course, and just an overall great environment. The cocktails were expertly crafted, the food was delicious, and the desserts were wonderful too. There are so many dishes I'd like to try. I'll be back.
This place is so cool looking and much bigger than I realized from the outside. We showed up early Saturday evening and they seated the four of us upstairs. It was so nice. Theres even a cute little balcony overlooking the downstairs and Im a sucker for theming. Our server was very helpful creating a vegan dish for my husband but alas the creamy mushroom sauce won him over. I tasted it. It was amazing! The kids menus came with crayons and a very nice create your own pasta for kids with seasonal veggies. The kids cookies looked huge and delicious too as an add on. The free bread service was nice but I think we saw the paid upgrade version and it looked amazing. So if we ever go with a bigger party we will definitely be doing that. It is a bit pricey so dinner there is definitely a nice treat and not a weekly thing for us My only note is that I wish there was a salad with the entree.
The sandwiches were amazing. We ordered the Italiano and the Prosciutto, and both were heavily loaded with meats. The flavors were incredible. We were mostly quiet while eating because it was that good. I also loved their decaf iced latte. As for service, the cashier and food runners were friendly and brought our meals directly to the table. There are plenty of indoor tables, and the noise level is comfortable. This spot is in the Strip District, so parking can be tricky and hard to find. But we got lucky and found parking about a block away. The key is to come early, around the time when most people are still getting up.
We scored the last table here at 6 o'clock on a week night after an early show at the Pittsburgh Winery. Many different menu items and drinks sound good, but we ended on the winter vegetable carpaccio (pretty to look at and tastes good), gnocchi and meatballs (both are huge), and white beans and hot sausage (salty). The focaccia in oil was yummy. I liked my Elisir di Mora cocktail, but hubby said his vanilla grapefruit Italian soda was better before all the ice in it melted. Staff are nice. It's loud inside, but when it's nice there are tables outside. $100 including tip for two people. We didn't get dessert and had leftovers.
I came for lunch this past Saturday and wanted to update my review as the ordering process was different since my last review. For lunch, you order your food at the counter. You are provided a number and take a seat wherever you'd like. Shortly after I received my drink (prosecco) and food. I ordered the eggplant parm sandwich. It was so good and wasn't heavy like most eggplant parm sandwiches are. I ate every last bite! The restaurant was moderately busy but we didn't have a problem finding a seat or getting our food in a timely manner. I will definitely be back!
My fiancé and I had had a date night at DiAnoias recently, it was our first time there! We went on a Thursday night. I made the reservation a month ahead of time, and the only time slots available were after 8 pm. I knew it was popular but I wasn't expecting that! We don't usually eat that late, but it was well worth it. The service was great, and everything came out fast and it was all super fresh! What we got: Gnocchi Pumpkin Bowl - I had been wanting to try this for years, and it was everything I'd dreamed it would be! It was rich and creamy, the pumpkin flavor in the sauce wasn't overpowering, and it was so cheesy! Simply incredible! Gnocchi & Meatballs - my fiancé's dish. Gnocchi is his fav pasta and he loved this! We loved how big the gnocchi is here. -Also I got 1 meatball on the side of my dish bc it sounded so good and it was amazing! Roasted cauliflower with pesto - the only way I want to eat cauliflower from now on! This was perfect (we were also in desperate need of some veggies lol) complimentary bread - fresh and tasty! We could've had 3 plates of that alone Rose Spritz - light and refreshing, just what I needed It was such a satisfying meal and the leftovers were just as good the next day. I can't wait to try more of the menu!
The food Is incredible. Whipped Ricotta was smooth and full of flavors. Roasted Cauliflower did not disappoint. It was crunchy and had a burst of flavor with each bite. We had the Zeppoles for dessert they were just like the ones I had growing up in NY. Debbie had a tarte it had a flower on it she said it was yummy. Debbie had a huge pasta dish full of flavor and a lot of added items. Sausage looked yummy. I had the Half Roasted Chicken cooked to perfection. Please make a reservation this place is crazy busy all the time. Parking Is not easy but with a few turns you can find a spot or garage parking a few blocks away. Went back again. We went on a Sunday afternoon for early dinner. Not packed, just a nice amount of customers in a friendly atmosphere. The Gnocchi Pumpkin Bowl was fantastic, with the pumpkin being nicely roasted, which added to the great flavor. The gnocchis were big and pillowy, and the sauce was cheesy and delicious! The portions were large, enough for two leftover dinners! The bread with whipped ricotta was amazing, as well as the Gnocchi and Meatballs. To top it off, the service and cocktails were perfect! We live out of town but look forward to coming back. Great service as well. They have a market half a block away so I was able to pick up a pint of the whipped ricotta. I stopped by for lunch here yesterday for the first time! The ambiance is nice, very unique design elements like chandeliers made from bottles and glasses. During the time that I went you are asked to take a menu, get in line, and order at a counter. I'm not sure if it is like this at all times of the day. I ordered the Aglio E Olio and shared the whipped ricotta. The pasta tasted fresh, but I wish it wasn't so cooked. If I go again I will definitely make sure to specify al dente when ordering. The whipped ricotta and toasted bread was definitely the star for me, better than the main dish! I also saw some great looking desserts, but didn't have time to get any. Overall this was a good first stop in, and I would definitely recommend stopping in if you haven't before. Hopefully I will get to give it another try soon. read more
DiAnoia's has become our fave Italian restaurant and a go to spot anytime we come to Pittsburgh. The food is so delicious- you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. This time we had the roasted cauliflower appetizer, roasted potatoes, meatballs and sauce and rigatoni pasta with pork meatballs (a brand new addition on the menu) and loved every single bite. The new pasta dish with pork meatballs was a standout as it had an excellent red sauce and paired perfectly with the burrata on top. But what sets this place apart for us is the service. We love sitting at the bar and our servers went out of their way to make us feel like part of the restaurant family. Manami is one the best bartender/servers that we've ever had. She even remembered us from the previous year and made us feel so welcome. And shout out to Caleb as well who made a great old fashioned for us. Can't recommend this place enough- and we can't wait to come back for more! read more

My boyfriend and I wanted to go here for our anniversary, but I was struggling to get a reservation. I called the restaurant, and the hostess told me that they accept walk-ins at the bar and the high top tables. We figured we would give it a shot, and to our surprise, we got a table within 20 minutes. The complimentary focaccia bread came plated on top of an oil and balsamic mixture; it was to die for! I ordered the gnocchi and meatballs. The gnocchi were quite large, but they were cooked very well! The meatballs were also huge, but they were perfectly tender. I also ordered a cocktail comprised of vodka, black tea, and cucumber, and it was very refreshing. I decided to go with a glass of wine for my second drink, and the waiter was keen on helping me find the perfect type. We had a great first experience, and we definitely plan to return with some of our family and friends in the near future! read more

Food: 3/5 Maybe it was because we came in with high expectations, but we left rather disappointed. Gnocchi: The gnocchi was cooked well, but you could hardly taste the pecorino and the marinara tasted one dimensional. If someone told me the marinara was just a blended can of San Marzano tomatoes- no onions or garlic- I would have believed it. Meatballs were tender. Agnello All'amatriciana: the bolognese has a bit more dimension than the marinara (as should be expected) but our dish was on the salty side and overall unremarkable. Despite the pasta being made in-house, it lacked that distinctly smooth yet almost bouncy texture that I expect from fresh pasta. The best thing about the meal was the bread in olive oil and some balsamic honestly. Ambiance: Nice interior decoration with a variety of seating, including indoor and outdoor. However, they DO NOT HAVE AC OR EVEN OVERHEAD FANS. It was 80 degrees out and we were uncomfortably warm for our hour long meal. Atmosphere was neat, always a good environment in the strip. My pasta (spring carbonara) was average, I was expecting more from everyone's fantastic reviews. My date got the lamb sugo and it was delicious. You NEED to get the roasted cauliflower. Would visit again but definitely would try a different pasta. read more

My favorite Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh! Everything I've ever ordered here has been absolutely delicious, even as take-out meals. I highly recommend making a reservation several weeks in advance, since the restaurant is on the smaller side and very popular. However, if you don't make one, you should be okay to get a table arriving before 6pm or willing to wait about 30mins. I ordered the gnocchi bread bowl and it was incredible!! The vodka sauce was creamy and smooth with a wonderful tomato and Italian seasoning flavor. The gnocchi was handmade, fresh, and stuffed with potato and cheese for an excellent bite. Even the bread bowl itself was delicious! It had olive oil brushed along the outside, was fluffy, and had a slightly buttery flavor. It held its shape so the sauce didn't leak out, but was still soft and soaked up the sauce flavor as well. The bowl itself is giant and definitely large enough for at least 2 meals. For the size and high quality of food they serve, it's absolutely worth the price to treat yourself. read more

Through word of mouth I had heard that DiAnoia's (which has a pastry shop nearby), had gluten-free Pignoli nut cookies, but was disappointed to learn that they are not safe for people with Celiac Disease. I also thought they had a more extensive GF menu - turns out, they have GF pasta which can be substituted in most of their pasta meals. No worries - the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. I had a house salad, which was a generous portion that could have been a meal by itself. I also had the GF vegan pasta with fall vegetables, pistachios, and plenty of garlic. I thought about asking for cheese, but it was so flavorful, there was no need. The leftovers tasted just as good the next day. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals - the short rib ragu got especially rave reviews. The atmosphere is bright and fun and we enjoyed checking out all the various dishes carried past our table as we were seating in the thick of things - added entertainment value. read more

Every time I come home to visit family they make a reservation at DiAnoia's. Its tradition at this point. My niece and nephew always get the gnocchi sorrentina bread bowl. Every pasta dish you get will be good. The best part is once you finish your meal and you are stuffed full of pasta, you can walk over to the dessert window and pick out what you'll be snacking on next. We came to this restaurant during their Negroni week last year, which was such a fun event to experience! After that, we enjoyed two delicious and unique cocktails at the bar before we were seated. The ambiance of the dining area is very pretty and classy, while still comfortable. We had a delicious kale salad, and their homemade focaccia bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar was amazing! Our entrees were the gnocchi in a bread bowl and the pork. All the homemade bread was excellent, the pork was very flavorful and the gnocchi were perfect fluffy pillows! Our service was great too. We've been trying to get into this restaurant for almost a year. Always booked, so I finally got us a reservation on a Friday. It was before a show at the Benedum. It was Saint Patrick's Day, so maybe folks weren't looking for Italian food on that night! So happy we finally found out for ourselves about all the hype around this place. It was fantastic Italian food. Probably one of the best in the city. It was raining when we got to the restaurant and the hostess showed us to our table upstairs. We had to walk through a tiled hallway which because of the water tracked in, had become a little slippery. I mentioned this to our hostess as we got to the table, but she seemed rather indifferent to my advising her of a potential liability. Oh well, that was the only negative thing I have to say about the entire evening. We ordered some drinks to start. We had some signature cocktails that were tasty. I was the only one who ordered a salad with my meal. I have to say it was the best house salad I've ever had. Loaded with chick peas, olives, roasted red pepper, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and lovely mixed greens, it could have been a meal on it's own. We got some bread to go with the cocktails which came with a creamy ricotta cheese topping mixed with olive oil. I've never had anything like that before. Between that and the salad I could easily have been sated. It was wonderful! Our entrees ranged from gnocchi with a meat ball, to Cacio e Pepe to Vongole linguine (clam sauce). All were homemade pasta and all were delicious. Those who ordered the gnocchi had enough to take home for lunch the next day. I ate all my Vongole. The Cacio e Pepe was so creamy and decadent, my daughter couldn't help but clean her plate too. Our server was very efficient and nice. The atmosphere upstairs was nice and quiet and the artwork on the walls was interesting. The ladies room was clean and well stocked. Overall, an excellent dining experience and I hope to get back again to try out more dishes. read more

We were delighted to get a reservation for dinner over the Holidays. DiAnoia's came highly rated by our friends and we are so glad we came. The service was fantastic and while I don't know if they were understaffed, certainly the ratio to patrons weren't quite in their favor...yet, service was very attentive and they made sure everyone was being taken care of. For meals, we ordered the Apple Walnut salad, Cacio e pepe, Pasta with homemade sausage and kale, the formidable Steak Florentine and tiramisu to-go. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection! I struggled with knocking off a star, but decided not to...DiAnoia's well known Cacio e Pepe wasn't to our liking as it was heavy and very cheesy. We are coming from summers worth of Italian made Cacio e Pepes. Portions are also very huge, so we ended up taking part of the steak home too. Overall, we look forward to coming back again! Tip: reserve a month in advance to get the best timing that works for you. read more
I've been dying to try DiAnoia's since I saw their pumpkin bowl gnocchi on Instagram last fall! We finally made our way there, and it did not disappoint! Our table tried a little bit of everything - pasta, gnocchi, chicken, meatballs - everything was delicious! You could tell it was all handmade using the freshest ingredients. Our reservation was for a table outside, which ended up just being under a tent in a parking lot. Next time, I'd definitely try to get seating inside. The only downfall was that the service was very slow, but the tasty food certainly makes up for it! read more

After 6 years I finally went to the infamous dianoias in the strip district. I originally found them on Facebook for their gnocchi bread bowls. But today we went to try something else: the pumpkin gnocchi bowl. Something I was a little put off about was that it sells for $36 which is a lot, but our waitress proceeded to tell us that the pumpkins they had on hand were a little bigger so it was best suited for two people and $48 instead. Like??? That's a little unfair. But we got it because we didn't care that much. It was good but lacked flavor in my opinion. The gnocchi were gigantic. It was really pretty and tasted good but I don't know, just wasn't flavorful. I got a rigatoni cacio e pepe for my main course and it was way too cheesy... they piled the pecorino on it was almost too flavorful. I couldn't eat it I was squishing the sauce out of the rigatoni and wiping it off on the side of my bowl. You can see in the photos it is just absolutely doused with cheese. I appreciated that it wasn't watery though like so many places are anddd the rigatoni themselves were delicious and perfect consistency. It's difficult to master a cacio e pepe. My boyfriend loved his tagliatelle dish and my FIL loved his as well. We were blown away by the foccocia bread we got (the free bread). It was so so delicious. Service was really good. Update 11/28/23: Aimee was so kind and actually reached out and sent us a gift card for the cacio e pepe debacle. So sweet. This business really does CARE. read more
