There was a recent change in ownership. The new owners are still getting their feet on the ground, but for us the service change has been excellent. I go semi-regularly with my daughter and they always treat her like a queen. Just recently, we had a meal on Halloween and one of the staff brought out a free brownie for my daughter just to celebrate the holiday. The restaurant was already providing a free meal for Halloween, so more was completely unnecessary, but also appreciated and brought a lot of joy. The new owners have had nothing but trouble with the soda machine. When they bought in, there was one of those fancy touch-screen machines where you pick from a million flavors you don't want. It broke, so they replaced it with a traditional soda machine. That one broke and it has been broken for a while. I was told on Halloween that it is finally fixed and now they are just restocking supplies for the machine, so it should be ready to go soon. The vibe of the place has moved from kind of corporate-standard "this is Texas" decor, to more of a country biker bar vibe. There are a lot of personal touches that I really enjoy including some interesting toys scattered around the place and a station where you order your food where you can play sudoku or do a word find while you wait for the server to take your order. There are some rough edges to smooth out yet. On our last visit, there was no plasticware available at the drink station, so I had to go and ask for it. The soda-machine, as mentioned, was still broken, but that is on the mend. I didn't really talk about the food. Seems like some reviewers have had trouble in that area, but I haven't. I don't exactly exercise the whole menu, but my westerner combo with brisket and jalapeno sausage is always delicious and the portion is plentiful. I like several of the sides including the baked beans, potato casserole, and green beans. There are several sauces to choose from and I like the regular well enough. Sometimes I mix it with the spicy for a bit more kick. Many BBQ restaurants can't maintain reasonable meat quality when there isn't enough volume to support it, but I think Dickey's has that mostly figured out. It isn't going to beat the best restaurants in the country, but it is going to provide a decent, consistent product that is worthy of your business and definitely holds up to other places in the area. read more

She said drinks don't come with the meal. 3 meals and a kids meal for $73. She did give us back $6.50 for 2 of the drinks when we complained. The bathroom smelled like weed. I heard from someone that they were good and was surprised by the quality of food I got. I ordered to go and I was really disappointed. I ordered a 2 meat plate. Everything was cold. The brisket was the best part and juicy, but there tons of fatty pieces. The pulled pork was really dry. The Texas toast tasted old and dry. The Mac and cheese tasted like the Bob Evans pre-packaged Mac at the grocery store that you just heat up. The mashed potatoes were awful. They smelled disgusting and tasted sour. It was gross and I just threw them away. I feel like Dickey's was pretty pricey and for the quality of food they serve I'm shocked they are still open. Since I ordered to go I cannot comment on the service and ambiance. The staff didn't look too happy, but my food was ready when I picked it up. Honestly would rate this experience a 2, and I probably should, but my love for this place makes it a 3. I placed a pickup order for 1:45pm. Now for most people that means the food is going to be ready for pickup at 1:45, packaged and ready to go. Even Google says the same thing, but anyways. I show up at 1:42. The employee comes to the window (drive-thru) and asks for my name then walks aways. They then come back to tell me that my order is for 1:45, and that I can either wait in the car or sit inside while they prepare it. It's currently, 1:45, so I go inside. The place is empty, the entire time I'm in there, aside from one person that walked in and picked up their order and left. After 12 minutes I sat back down into my car at 1:57pm. So I spent 15 minutes there when it should've been at max 5 - FOR A PRE-PLANNED PICK UP TIME. Okay, now the service. I'm not sure if the employee got something going on outside of work, but yea if they were my employee I'd fire them. There's no reason to have attitude, or a slight temper. I didn't do anything and my food definitely didn't do anything. So 15 minutes there, and a 13 minute drive home. Me and my girlfriend got - Loaded baked potato (everything on it), Smoke Stack (pork and Mac), pulled pork, fries, & a side of Mac. No sour cream on the potato, fries were cold and soggy, and the standalone pulled pork was cold (thank god for my air fryer). Just went there this evening. They definitely had some hiccups--pop machine not working, no ice, sweet tea wasn't sweet, silverware wasn't out (aside from spoons), food took a little longer than one would have thought it would--just little things. It could've been a frustrating experience BUT the service was OUTSTANDING. Literally above & beyond. The 2 gentleman that were there said they bought it in March & one went to grab ice somewhere for us, gave us cookies/brownies to make up for the hiccups, just overall 12/10 on service. Their food is yummy, but I think it would need to be bigger for a more easier feeling when you walk in. More sides would be nice too and more of a selection of different cuts of meat. These poor people are always understaffed, which probably explains why they're always in a bad mood the two times we have come. The food would be good if they didn't feel rushed to prepare it. The fries aren't crispy and the mac n cheese my son got was stone cold. The place was fairly clean though. There was another customer we overheard asking about the specials, the lady responded "We don't know what the specials are, you have to order them online". If you don't know what they are, how would you be able to make them whether they ordered online or in store? We wanted to love this place due to it being so close to our house. I Pre ordered a delivery for 12:00pm which is the earliest you can order since they don't open until 11:00am. I Ordered a full slab of pork ribs requested it to be left whole with sauce on the side and the 3 meats with 2 sides this includes Texas toast. We selected sliced brisket, ribs, and jalapeño kielbasa sausage. Our delivery order arrived before the estimated time which was nice all utensils were delivered no items were missing! However the reason for my 1 star is because this was our very first time trying Dickeys Barbecue pit and we had high hopes. The ribs were dry and tasted as if they'd been sitting out for at least a whole day! Nothing about them were succulent, juicy or even had that grilled flavor or taste they just tasted old :(... the brisket came chopped even though we selected it be sliced and it was overly salted ;(... the jalapeño kielbasa was actually pretty tasty. Went here for lunch, there was a sign on the door that said to be patient because they were understaffed. It was a pretty decent wait but they only had two people working there so you have to cut them some slack. They were also out of a bunch of things, she said she just didn't have time to make them. My son enjoyed everything he had and has also had their ribs before which they were out of and he says are very good, same with the jalapeño kielbasa. I had a loaded baker which is a huge baked potato with bacon, green onions, cheese and sour cream, plus a meat of your choice on top. I had the brisket which was very flavorful and tender. They have a seasoning rub that my son decided to shake on it to his meat which was pretty good If not salty, probably because it's meant as a rub and not a seasoning! They also have a pretty good spicy barbecue sauce. Their soda machine Is the Coca-Cola freestyle. It's a little on the higher and pricing for a casual barbecue joint, but certainly reasonable. They have a lot of extra options that places like city BBQ do not, more interesting sides and salads, etc. read more

Emphasis on IN THE AREA which means that there are way better places in Columbus vicinity to get BBQ but we didn't feel like a fight to get there. We didn't feel like fighting traffic to get downtown with minimal parking for B&K smokehouse, Ray Rays Hog Pit, or Smoked on High. We didn't feel like fighting traffic up north on Bethel Rd for Hoggys either cause again we were in the Hilliard area closer to 270 North & South freeway exits and didn't feel like going deeper in Hilliard on Main St with the numerous Hilliard speed traps and police posted everywhere to get to Legacy Smokehouse. Nevertheless if you don't give a damn about an hour round trip plus wait time for your order and $5 per gallon for gas then have it to various places mentioned around Columbus & Hilliard. Now specifically back to this place, ordering is seemless and straightforward but the portions are on the smallish side for an average of $15 plus for "platters" and combos. The two bone ribs they give didn't have that much meat on them, the pulled pork and brisket was slightly dry but all had a rich intense bbq flavor without sauce. Their bbq sauces were delicious. The roll was really good. The Mac and cheese not pictured was Okay and the potato "casserole" was just mashed potatoes with maybe a little cheese and bacon bits barely mixed in. Nevertheless there was a line out the door for this spot so they seem to be doing alright business wise and the staff was friendly and worked efficiently without a bunch of horseplay or shooting the shit instead of doing their jobs. I had a Westerner sandwich with brisket and pulled pork. Very good sandwich, held together even though loaded up- great bread. The pulled pork was very good, in texture and taste. No sauce needed. The brisket was tender and juicy, but had little flavor. I doused it in sauce - they have three fairly good sauces. The side of spicy beans was barely spicy at all. The creamed spinach side was good- comfort food. The sweet tea was not sweet- bummer. The pecan pie was very, very good, though the plastic wrap packaging makes for a sloppy mess when trying to eat it. All in all, a mixed bag. Not bad, but not amazing. Great service, decent prices. I finally got around to trying Dickey's Barbecue Pit last night after my husband came home from his doctor's visit in Cincinnati. Here's what we liked about it, the meats were delicious we both ordered the beef brisket and they were cooked well and succulent taste. What could have been better is their sauce, but I won't ding them on it as we didn't know which one to go with doing a carry out order here. My husband orders the 3 meat with 2 sides combo. He got the brisket and 2 different kielbasa's. We both got the creamed spinach side which was great. I got macaroni and cheese as my 2nd side and he got baked beans. The food is a lot like City BBQ where you get the sandwich or meat and 2 sides just a little more money depending on which meat combo you choose to go with. Although I will admit that the quality of this food is better than that of City BBQ's as their brisket was the best I've had in a while and so was the sides. Would I come here again? Stopped by for a quick late lunch. Excellent choice! The beef brisket was flavorful and tender. The baked beans and baked potato casserole were good. The lemonade is super refreshing. The roll was smaller than I would have liked. The person taking my order was very patient as I was taking a while to look at all their choices. The one meat and two sides combo was $11.95 and it was a good amount of food. They offer catering and delivery, so I will definitely give them a try for one of our work meetings. The location is pretty small, so even though it wasn't crowded when I came in, I imagine it can get pretty crowded during high traffic times. The pork was dry enough to splinter the tongue, the brisket was a band of unrendered fat, the mac and cheese was straight up water and yellow, and the loaded mashed potatoes.... Let's not continue. We have frequented Dickey's out of convenience as we live walking distance from this location. The service is hit or miss. The worst experience (until today) was calling in an order for pickup and when I arrived at the designated time, they had clearly not even started on my order and gave attitude when I asked how much longer it would take (waited another 25 mins btw). However, today the family had been out of town and we just wanted something quick. I called to place an order and was told, "we are way too busy right now, call back later." No "can I put you on hold for a moment?" or even "can you try ordering online?". Obviously I'm not going to call back later or, in good conscience, frequent this location again. I'm surprised it's been awhile since I've been here. Tried the Brisket Frito Chili ...or is it Texas Beef Brisket Chili Frito? I can't remember name but it's not bad, it's a little spicy for me but probably neutral or bland for those of you that love spicy foods. Bought my usual brisket sandwich and it is excellent. Like I've mentioned in previous review I've been to Texas, Kansas City, etc and ate BBQ from those places and all have different variations of BBQ (even in Texas has different options and there is even Korean BBQ) and the Columbus area is blessed to have a little bit of everything but I think that leads to confusion as to why some call one better or worse than others because they don't like the way it's made or taste. It's just different methods for different people. I appreciate Dickey's BBQ Pit and other BBQ's and hope they stay around a long time. I realized I forgot my favorite bread. I didn't see it. Very good BBQ and very affordable! We came here for the first time the other night and there was practically nobody in there. This was a good thing because we had a chance to look over the menu and ask the staff about their recommendations. They said that many people get the deal of the day which was $9.99 and included a pulled pork sandwich, two sides, and a large drink. We decided to go with that option and it turned out delicious! The buns that they use are very fresh and warm. They use this machine to get butter on bun as well which added some great flavor! I got coleslaw and cheese on top of my pulled pork sandwich and creamed spinach and mac and cheese for my sides. Creamed spinach was really good although the mac and cheese had a sharp cheddar flavor that I don't particularly like. My partner really liked it though so I gave the rest of mine to him. You will like it if you like a sharper mac and cheese flavor. The pulled pork comes without a sauce on it as they have all of their sauces in heated pots next to the soda machine. The fact that they were warm really makes a difference because there's nothing worse than putting cold sauce on a hot sandwich! They had original, sweet, and spicy sauces to choose from. I mixed the original with the sweet and it was very tasty. You can mix and match however you want to find the best combination of flavors. All in all this was a great experience and a wonderful alternative to the other BBQ chains around Columbus. read more
