We are Californians visiting and my friend brought us to Dick's because it is a staple in Seattle and equivalent to In N Out. This is my consensus: It is definitely not in and out. In N Out is better in my opinion. I've never had Foster Freeze, but my husband has and compares it to it. I love In Out burger's taste. Dick's burgers are pre-made and we don't like lettuce in our burgers, but you can't take them out. The burger was a little sweet for my liking. We laughed about the sugar tax for the sodas. Service was fast and friendly. It's not a drive through. Ambiance was cool. It's a drive in experience and you walk up and order. Fries- I worked at Five Guys for two years and we always either get potatoes from Idaho or Washington and I always preferred Washington fries to Idaho fries and these fries are equivalent to Five Guys Fries from Washington. We came here because it was late and we had drinks so of course we needed greasy food. A friend told me this place is better than In-N-Out so I had to try it. Verdict is, it's a pretty good rival. The bun is softer than a double double and the meat was pretty similar. What's different is the sauce and that's all about preference. I liked it but some in our group didn't. The fries are better than In-N-Out because those fries are awful so that's not hard. I also got a vanilla shake. Pretty good but it's hard to mess up a vanilla shake. The only downside is that they're a little rude or short which could be because they're dealing with mostly drunk people that hour. But all in all, a great spot for a late night burger. read more

As a California Native, I'm pretty much a die-hard In-N-Out fan, but I was willing to try Dick's in order to experience what the people of Seattle knew and loved. I knew going into it that it would be disappointing, yet somehow it still subceeded all my expectations for what a burger should be. It's not even in the same league as what In-N-Out is in California. Cheap burgers, but they charge extra for each of the sauces or add-ons. Not very satisfying to eat as they're small, lukewarm, and the quality of ingredients are subpar; At the same price you get a much better deal at McDonalds, which is saying a lot. No indoor dining area, and maybe only like 5 menu items: four variations of the same burger, and fries. The fries look a dark brown, almost burnt color, yet are soggy. We tried the Deluxe Burger, the Special Burger, and an order of fries. A note on pricing: condiments cost extra, and there's a sugar tax applied to the sodas. The Deluxe burger comes with cheese and two burger patties whereas the Special burger has a single patty. I was a bit disappointed with Special. (note: the onions are like the ones you put on a hotdog, rather than onion rings). Considering the hamburger + fries was under $5, it was a solid meal. This will have to be the biggest foodie adventure let down from my Seattle visit. Let me start off by saying the cashiers are super nice and chill. They answered my questions in such a nice and patient manner. There have been many websites and youtube videos stating that this burger joint was a must to visit in Seattle. Every once in a while, stars align. For me, that alignment was on Jan 24, 2023. Dick's was celebrating its 69th anniversary and hamburgers plus cheeseburgers were 19¢ a piece (one per person for up to 5 people who all had to be present to redeem the offer). Well, despite having lunch plans, I got in line right when the restaurant opened. As expected, there were already people waiting. It took 10 to 20 minutes (during which time two lines became three and I saw a person with a big fluffy white dog who came five minutes after me get his order first) for me to order and get my food, but for $3.13 total, it was totally worth it. Heck, if I paid the normal price for the burger, it still would have been worth it. Was this the best burger of my life? No, but the value was excellent. When you just want something quick and cheap, Dick's has got to be the place to go in Seattle. I wish we had something like it on the East Coast! read more

This place has a lot of parking for people to eat in their cars. For those who do not have a car, can eat at their small public stand-up table. I ordered the Dick's Deluxe ($4.85), which is 1/4 lb. beef patty, cheese, mayo, lettuce, and chopped pickles. The burger was decently wet and sloppy. The flavors were OK, nothing special. The quality of the french fries ($2.85) were similar to college dining common. The Maple Nut flavored Kids Cone ($2.00) was OK, a bit grainy. Dicks is the White Castle of Seattle. A place where the drunk and high go to get food. I went to have my kiddo experience it. The lines are long but it goes quickly.
