Quiet. Unusually so considering it's 1145am and peak burger hour, especially for the construction trades. Yet there are only 3 people at the window. Why is this? Recent price hikes could be the issue. Or the quality (or lack thereof) of the food. I have never returned a burger at Dick's before today. The wrapper was cold and the meat luke warm. Without hesitation, I was given another. It, too, was hardly warm. And both burgers were way overdone. I generally don't use this location. And admittedly I am weaning myself off burgers and shakes, so it's been awhile. But I sure don't remember Dick's being like this. Service was good, but not as peppy as at other locations. Now I'll grab a Dicks Deluxe anytime of day, yet nothing tops off a night of boozing & chasing women like the taste of Dicks Drive Inn at 1:30 in the morning. Theres nothing like power of 2 meat patties, lettuce cheese & sauce slapped onto a bun, fresh cut fires and served with either a Coke or handmade strawberry milkshake to cap off a prefect night. Well, only one thing better is when you've manage to have a special friend with you ( wink wink ) to share it with. Not much has changed over the years. Dick's has manage to keep a very basic menu with 4 choices. The Hamburger , Cheeseburger, Special & Deluxe are your Burger choices along with french fries that are hand cut from fresh potato's on the premises for quality. Ice cream scoops & milkshakes for those desiring something sweet or if your maintaining a vegan diet yet just wanna participate in the institution. Parking is on the premise so you won't have any worries about parking. Meals are served fast and hot. And on occasion you may wait in line but that's cause others want what you want. Yesterday, I braved the wind, rain, and Redmond traffic to try the new Dick's burger place in Overlake. My parking slot was tough to find, but they did have two handicapped slots--well down the line. I ordered the "Deluxe", drink, and fries and found it was cheaper than other places. I asked for ketchup, mustard, and onions only so they gave me plastic mustard and ketchup packs, and a tiny plastic container of chopped onions. The burger came pretty quickly but it was not customized as requested--but I was not told they don't customize. The burger was dry, the lettuce soggy, the sauce strange, the bun plain. The taste? Barely edible. Definitely not worth nearly $10. I don't get it. Why the accolades? Yes, the fries were great but not as hot as I expected. Nope, I'll stick with Kidd Valley, Fat Burger, Burger Master, or even 5-Guys. read more

In 2011, the price of a Dick's Deluxe Burger was $2.50. The price as of August 2023 is $5.30 which is a 112% increase. During this time, inflation has been 39%. Dick's has never had the highest quality burger, but it has generally been the best bang for your buck in Seattle. The problem with these price increases is that the price has increased dramatically but the quality is the same. Now the burgers feel incredibly overpriced. I can't give it 1 star because the fries are still excellent and they treat their employees well. If you're looking for a good burger in Seattle, I'd check out Red Mill burger. read more

Classic burger joint as always. Dick's has a special place in my heart when it comes to burgers in Seattle. The name is interesting but they don't joke when it's classic burgers. I love getting the special and deluxe. Not much to really say but the deluxe has two beef patties and cheese. I opt for the deluxe when I'm pretty gingery and a side order of fries. This Dick's location can be a hit or miss, especially at peak times during lunch or dinner on weekends. The lines are hard to judge, and you can't tell which is best based on how many people are in front of you because I've had times where a line with people who showed up more than 5 minutes after me all got food before I could order. The deluxe is the best option in my opinion, but even those are inconsistent, too, with the lettuce and/sauce flopped out. Sometimes the cheese is lopsided, and I've had times where half the burger was uneven and stuck to the wrapper once I opened it. There's sometimes chewy bits, but this is Dick's - you get what you pay for. It's good enough given the price. read more

Great Burgers & Fries & Drinks - That's It, But Great If That's All You Want SITREP Nope. Sorry. A group of Dick's staff are not going to swarm your car and sing you "Happy Birthday". Nor are you going to find Filet Mignon here. But you ARE going to get a great burger and fries on the cheap. THE SETUP Dick's is a pretty low-key, square structure in the middle of a parking lot. Cars park around it and on the edge of the lot under shade trees on a hot day. You walk up to the counter and order your stuff. It's a pretty simple menu, so that cuts down on the wasted time of having to read some novel-menus that take my aunts about half an hour to do (yes, I'm looking at YOU, Cheesecake Factory with your gaddam 75 page menu). LE MENU * Sodas * Milkshakes * Fries * Hamburgers * Cheeseburgers; and, * Deluxe Burgers (ok, I admit, they're goin !CraZy! on this one) W00t! There are also x-tra condiment charges for a nickel. For the 3 of us, getting 3 burgers, fries and sodas, a "whopping" $15. That was awesome! I can't say I'm a fan of this place, but I do appreciate the novelty of mid 1900 style fast food. Everything seems old fashion such as the menu, architect, employee uniforms, and small burgers. I bet if I travelled back in time, almost everything but the price would be the same. I ordered the deluxe burger. It was very simple and yet tasted different from a McDonald's burger. In comparison, it had a bit sweeter taste with the sauce they put in. It wasn't bad. I ate two of them because of the appetite I worked up earlier. The French fries were not so good. Portion was tiny and most fries were limp due to the amount of grease. I was warned beforehand of these fries, but I'm glad I tried. Overall I'm glad I tried this place. Our tour guide even recommended it to us because it was a "Seattle" thing to do. I guess I can see that though - there were a bunch of young higher schooler / fresh man college students there that night. Why not right? This is perhaps the most Seattle thing around. Ask any local where to get the best burger and they will direct you to Dick's. It is the one place in the city where you will find all walks of life, the hungry student, preclub/post club highjinkery, quick lunch break, find us all here. Part of the appeal of Dick's is that, you get what you get, no customization, no extra this extra that. They have a set menu and that's all you get. And because of that the lines and orders move very quickly, truly a fast food establishment. (Although a milkshake may slow you down just a bit). Health nuts beware, this is not where you go for a diet. You come here with full expectations for a greasy heavy fast food meal. There are 4 different burgers that are available to order, they Deluxe, the Special, Hamburger and Cheeseburger. The Deluxe is a double patty burger with cheese and the special Dick's sauce while the Special only has one patty. I honestly have no idea what anything but the Deluxe tastes like and I really don't mind. The patties are thick and have an authentic weight to them. The sauce is a creamy combination of pickles and fattyness. Don't be surprised if you find yourself mourning when you are down to your last bite. The fries are something else. Even though they changed the formula years back they are still the soggy, greasy, salty french fries we all know and love. An authentic Dick's mean is not complete without the sauces oozing out of your burger as you bite into it and the paper bag covered in french fry grease. Lastly, there is just something else about their sodas. They serve their soft drinks with a special crushed ice that just makes it taste better. My ideal meal that I could eat forever is a Deluxe with fries and a coke. I promise you will be highly satisfied. More recently, Dick's has started to accepted credit cards - which to be honest is a huge deal. I never ever used to carry cash and the only reason I ever did was to grab a burger. I can't tell you how many times I pulled into the lot only to realize I was a few bucks too short and had to sadly pull out of the lot in search of an ATM (conveniently there are a few banks within a few blocks of this location). A few things to note: - Ketchup, onions and tarter sauce can be purchased for an additional 5 cents per cup. - If you havent filled up with burgers and fries, they also have a selection of ice cream and milkshakes to choose from. - Don't forget to grab your napkins and straws, the workers will not do that for you - they are all about being efficient and quick. Grab what you need and get out of the way. - Don't be that person. I repeat - there are no customizations here - you get what you get. Eat what is given to you - its all amazing. read more

Living in California for majority of my life everyone raves about In-N-Out-Burgers, I'm one of those weirdos who never understood the hype over that place. Moving to Seattle, the first night here hubby (who has been up here for three months) takes me to Dick's. Okay so hell yes the burgers and especially the fries are better than In-N-Out in my opinion. I love the portion size it actually looks real and not like someone pumped a whole bunch of crap in it to have the patties look like they are on steroids. I also ordered a strawberry shake which I liked. For me Dick's seems like an excellent place for a quick burger fix, it's not the best tasting burgers that I have ever had but it's great for a quick eat, prices are great and I know I'll be a regular. read more

As the name suggests, there's no seating available. There's parking surrounding the restaurant. This is a good place to grab a cheap and quick bite. It reminds me of McDonald's in terms of the burgers' look, size, and cost. However this is fresh meat. The fries are soft but frankly don't look very appetizing. They look floppy and some look brown. I got a vanilla milkshake and it was really thick. The sweetness IMO is too much though, maybe it's just how milkshakes are. This place rocks the old school drive in for real. No kitczhy Elvis memorials here. Just good burgers and shakes prepared fast to order and served by friendly courteous staff. And cheap! $6.50 got me a cheeseburger fries and a hand scooped chocolate shake. Really excellent fries too crisp and tasty. No need for sauce on these bad boys. Yum. The burger was a little small by today's standards. It certainly wasn't a quarter pounder, but I was still completely satisfied after finishing my dinner here. Dicks is ok in my books. I'm originally from California where In N Out is hailed as a hamburger staple so my opinion may be a little biased. I ordered the 1/4 lb deluxe and one thing I found incredibly irritating was that I could not ask to hold the mayonnaise. I was told that Dick's could not "customize" orders because they pride themselves on instant service. I will add that my burger was ready in less than 15 seconds of me placing my order but how time consuming is it to hold the mayo? That part alone makes me not want to come back again to Dick's. While the cheeseburger did taste pretty good, it certainly lacked in aesthetics. The bun was completely squashed when I opened the foil wrapper. The hamburger was flattened out and had no artisan appeal. I also ordered their hot fudge sundae which was anything but a sundae. It was a scoop of ice cream in a cup, nothing fancy. Living in Salem hasn't afforded me the opportunity to get out to Dick's Drive-In; Seattle's best drive-in hamburger joint. First time I ever ate at Dick's was back in my college days, before smart phones and Yelp. Revisited one of their locations yesterday and ordered a Deluxe burger, Hamburger, fries and a mint chocolate chip sundae. Both burgers were grilled to perfection and served hot. The deluxe burger was unfortunately light on the sauce but bold on the flavor from the beef. The home style fries were crisp and golden and the sundae was a sweet treat in contrast with the burgers and fries. Definitely stopping in on my next trip in the area! read more

Dick's Drive-In reminds me of Rally's/In-N-Out with a nice local Seattle touch. I came here and was stoked to get my fix! Upon coming up they have a walk-up window and a large classic spinning signage up front. The food was decently priced, and even more tasty. Mentioning how delcious a Dick's Special to a Seattleite is like preaching to the choir. The specials are my favorite, and for ten bucks I can get two of them, fries and a shake, and best of all, feel full after I'm done eating. The crows perch high above, looking down for the smallest minuscule of a french fry, or perhaps a speck of lettuce that fell from your special, so--unless you want to wash your car afterwords or lose your lunch on the spot, park a little farther back. The crows at Dick's are fearless, and they will even jump on the hood of your car, jockeying for position over its competitors for the smallest morsel. I think it is somewhat selfish of the management to not accept debit cards, and I am slightly affronted when they hold every $5, $10 and larger bill up to the light--the money I just got from the ATM--like I would stoop that low to give them fake money. They need to get with the 90's at least and take debit and credit cards, and for them not, it's points and stars against. But, hey, like anything I'm going to say makes a difference, right? Yelp reviews are almost after-the-fact in some cases. It's still fun to write, though, on certain occassions. I am getting hungry, though. read more

We both got the double burger, a milkshake, a root beer float, and fries. This place is very comparable to In n Out in CA, but the burgers and everything had a different taste. My boyfriend lovessss the fries here. He was so pleasantly surprised, he wanted to come back the next day just for the fries! The milkshake and root beer float were pretty good but nothing special. It's also across the street from my gym, which could be oh-so-tempting if I was craving burgers all the time. That being said, when I do have some Dick's, I am never dissatisfied. The burgers are small and tasty, so it doesn't feel like it's too much meat or buns. I'm not a fan of their soggy fries though, but I do enjoy a nice little Deluxe burger from time to time. I would say that I've had Dick's at several of their locations, and they are all consistent so no complaints there! Coming from the land where In & Out reigns supreme, I can honestly say that Dick's is better. The food is consistently good, fresh, hot and flavorful. A Deluxe and fries is everything you need to make your day. Get one of their thick and amazing shakes to go with that, and *sigh*, heaven. The people that work there are friendly and very efficient. I've never encountered a surly person behind the counter. The lines can be long, but the staff gets everyone through pretty quick. They only accept cash, but if, like many folks, you only carry plastic, there's an ATM on site and the fee isn't unreasonable.
