Checked out the brand new Dick's Sporting Goods today. Located in the Perfumo Shopping center that also houses the new Target and Olive Garden, Dick's is a big, shiny new building filled with everything you need in the sporting world. We went in not expecting to buy anything and walked out with $100 worth of goodies. Lot's of golfing stuff and the employees that we had contact with were friendly and knowledgeable.Nice to have Dick's as a part of SLO.... Hands down the best sporting goods store in town. read more

I recently purchased some Nike Running shoes from Dicks Sporting Goods at a location in Ventura county. I loved the shoes, however when I was out running, I slipped and tore the shoe fabric on the top a little bit. I was pretty bummed out and thought that there was no chance of fixing it, however I tried my luck and asked about the exchange and return policy at Dicks in SLO. I called, a young lady named Ashley picked up, and was incredibly helpful when I explained her my situation. I brought them in 20 minutes later, saw that the y had the same exact shoes in my size, and then went on my way! The ease and simplicity of the process truly made my day! DICKs sporting goods has earned themselves a loyal customer today. I am in the need for some basketball shoes and I'm definitely going to DICKs to buy them! read more

Worst customer service of any place I go to in SLO. No one to answer questions and cashiers are disinterested. Usually they don't acknowledge you're waiting in line. If there were an REI here this place would go under in a matter of months. read more

California's infringing laws are bad enough. All the hoops we have to jump through to excercise our 2nd Amendment rights are most assuredly beung infringed upon. I wasn't able to purchase ammo to go target shooting with the guns i just purchased within the last two months. My record couldnt be cleaner, not even a traffic/parking ticket. As if that wasnt bad enough, everyone else in my party was denied the purchase of ammo for their own guns, because we came in together. This is most certainly an infringement on all of our Constitutional safeguards for the 2nd Amendment. Also, the customer service woman who i spoke with on the phone tried to tell me that i was denied because i "must have something on my record" . Ive been denied Constitutional protections AND insulted by Dick's Sporting Goods. read more

First review I've ever written on yelp, probably cause I'm just annoyed enough at this point to care enough to write something. Nothing against the people who work here, customer service isn't horrible. And maybe all Dicks sporting goods are this shitty, this is the only one I've ever been to but they are severely lacking in supplies, both in quality and quantity. I've come to this store three times over the past 4 months to get isopro fuel (common backpacking fuel). Each time the rack was empty and the employees said that more would be coming in soon. Dunno if everyone and their mothers love backpacking in SLO or something, but every time I return that empty freaking rack is mocking me. Additionally they didn't have any normal 1L nalgenes, except for a crappy overpriced promotional one for the 4th of July. It's the most basic waterbottle out there, so what's going on? Fishing supplies are mainly cheap crap as well. I suppose if you're looking purely for baseball, basketball, football, soccer, or athletic apparel, this place isn't necessarily the worst. Worst customer service of any store in the area probably. I called them to confirm I could pick up my fire arm and the lady on the phone from the store was dumb as wood. Losers! I go in on Sunday evening to get Christmas bikes for our 3 kids. I had to wait for a while for someone to help me (and they did not seem very busy). Then finally Keegan came to the back of the store and seemed very nice. I ordered 3 bikes and he told me he would have them assembled and ready by Wed. On my way home I stopped at another store for comparison and was offered a great deal but I felt loyal to Dick's because I had already placed my order. Luckily, I called Dick's the day before I was to pick them up to find out that they did not have one of the bikes I needed and the person I talked to had no record of the other two being needed. Well that made my decision real fast as to where my business is going. read more

To start off-we are huge sports people and drive 45 minutes just to shop at Dick's...however amazon may be our new store for sporting goods. This was the worst customer service experience I've received in my 38 years on this planet. The young inexperienced manager Andrea had absolutely no idea how to handle a price guarantee situation. She simply removed the posted price and said it was wrong and the manufacturer might've mis-stickered it so "sorry". We told her every store that lists something incorrectly will match what they have shown and she stated that it definitely wasn't her staff that made a mistake, she didn't even try to work with us or assist in any way. In fact when we asked for her last name so we could speak with corporate, since the entire staff was made up of college kids, she refused to return to the front and refused to give her last name. We spoke to Julie at corporate an hour later and explained the situation and she was extremely helpful. She called over to the store and I could only assume she received the same "helpfulness" because she returned with little info other than as a consumer she gets our situation and said she would send an email to the GM of the store to help us get this worked out. I'm only hoping the GM is helpful!! And will return with the rest of the review once we speak to him... read more

This place is really expensive. you are much better off going to Big 5. However, for such a big chain store I was expecting a better selection AND better customer services. What a nightmare. They had tons of signs out for a huge clearance sale this past weekend and were clearly understaffed for it. I went to purchase a ping pong table and noted a price of $599. It was not in stock at the store therefore they would have to web order it for me. They were going to charge an additional $179 for the delivery fee. I declined the delivery fee and asked that they have it delivered to the store where I would pick it up. That was not an option they would pursue. I did like the cleanliness and the products they offered but I consider their pricing to be misleading. I believe they should state clearly that a delivery charge would be added since they don't sick the item. read more

I went here because my usual spot (the mountain air) was closed. Such a bad idea! The service is atrocious and the selection for camping / backpacking gear is a joke. Had to roam around for 10 minutes to find someone to do a simple price check and my boyfriend waited over 15 minutes for some help at the gun counter. I have had two poor experiences at this place in the past 2 weeks. Both times I went straight into the store, found the item I wanted to buy in a few minutes, then spent more than 30 minutes trying to figure it out with staff before leaving empty-handed. One time was for a larger item they had to check stock on, but the other one was for a freakin' thermos! Super ridiculously bad customer service, and it's not even totally the staff's fault because the corporate structure is so weak sauce that they can't even look up any seemingly simple information on the computer system. Big store with VERY FEW employees to assist with purchase questions. Bought a bike for my son and purchased insurance package for future repairs. Own bike for less than a year and needs repairs (tightening of seat , and truing of rim) only to be told its "out of their realm of repair" if it is beyond your capacity to repair why keep the bike for a month telling me every time I call that "its not repaired yet' only to come in and find it WORSE. When I brought the bike in it rolled to the back of the store , when I picked it up they had to disconnect the rear brake to get it to spin and roll back out of the store. Got Help from Dean in the bike department. He was very helpful and had great customer service. I ended up purchasing a bike and helmet. He helped make sure the bike was the right size and correct adjustments. Dean was efficient in making sure I knew how to safely ride the bike, he also recommended great local places to ride. Worst shopping experience ever. My son and I went to purchase his first gun. Long story short, after 4 visits to the store due to their incompetence, we're driving home with the rifle finally and I get a call from the sales associate telling me that they have the magazine for the gun. We had to go back to the store yet again, to pick up a piece that they failed to put into the box. The next night the store manager called me and asked me to come back because they forgot to get my thumbprint on the paperwork. AFTER I have my purchase complete and the rifle at home! Really? I was seriously unimpressed with their lack of professionalism and competence. I will never go back there. After going through the process of purchasing a gun from Dick's, I have come to the conclusion that Dick's management needs to train their gun counter staff to know what residency forms they will accept. Long story short I provided them with a DMV paper that they said would work fine to process the DROS paperwork, and I get a call the next day saying I need to bring in another proof of current address. This is after I have paid for the gun and the person told me the document was acceptable. Now I have to wait an additional 3 or 4 days on top of their 11 day waiting period because of their lack of knowledge. I will say that their guns are fairly priced, but the staff needs better training. read more

Terrible customer service. No one helps when you're on the floor, and the employees act like they don't want to be there. It looks like a problem with management. The manager named Angela was requested to come help the employee at my register because the computer wouldn't print my receipt. She actually told the employee to wait while she walked across the aisle and rang up other customers. I stood there. She finally came back and told me she'd have to go to the back and look up my purchase and that it would take some time. She acted like it was my fault and that I was an inconvenience. Recommend Dick's in general and highly recommend the gun counter area, they have a wide assortment of rifles, shotguns, ammo and some accessories, including gun safes to keep you lead launchers safe at home. Only problems I've had is with the coupons they seem to issue, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, but you'll never know until you get to check-out. Worth taking a look if your shopping for sporting goods. read more

This place needs some better management. As other reviewers noted, only one checker, line forming, no help. I asked the only checker who was having a difficult time with a return to please call someone to help her. She said that no one what available and that I would just have to wait. After several more minutes of not being able to process the return and more people joining the line, she suddenly "found" someone to help her check. I do not hold the poor flustered checker responsible. This is clearly poor training and poor management. Corporate needs to asses the local management and improve their customer service or we are going to have another vacant big store in town. read more

I never really care to shop in box athletic stores because I feel like they are geared towards total meatheads and jocks. This location was ok. Store was well organized and clean, not piles of clothes on tables or anything. It was a bit difficult to find staff on the floor but the one I did find was very nice. I went in looking for a 2 specific types of shoes-crossfit and just non exercise shoes like vans. They had a good selection of CF shoes to choose from but the Vans selection was dismal. All black or gray and only about 3 styles to choose from. The salesman offered to have shoes delivered but when I go shopping, it's not so I can then wait another week to actually get my product. This place has awful customer service. Entering, no one was around to greet me, nor ask if I needed help. I saw several employees in the bike section just standing with each other talking. During checkout, one register was open but the poor woman was preoccupied with a returner who had a lot of stuff they were returning. I purchased my son a pair of Adidas baseball pants from the DICKS retail store located in San Luis Obispo, CA. It was game day, and he wore the pants, however they were far too tight. The pants were still in like new condition with only a smudge on one knee from where he knelt. I tried to return the pants with the understanding that I would purchase an additional pair. The store clerk advised me it was not their policy. Again, I advised him that I would purchase another pair, as these pants were too small. The clerk told me that they can no longer resell them so are useless. I explained that on returns, the manufacturer rebates the merchant (DICKS) on any return. He then called the Store Manager who stated that the best she was willing to do was allow me to return the pants at NO refund, and give 25% off the other pair I would purchase. I felt more like I was in a Tijuana Swap Meet than retail store. I politely declined and went on my way. I am one of those people that likes to support brick-and-mortar stores in the local community. My two boys play Football, Wrestle and Baseball. I have always purchased all their sporting goods in addition to fishing poles, camping gear, etc; at DICKS. It is not that I am unaware I can purchase goods/supplies more cost effectively, conveniently and with endless selection at AMAZON.COM. Of course, I am aware of this, however again, I like the idea of supporting local business, even though considered a big-box store. In closing, DICKS has lost a loyal customer in me over a $20 pair of pants. It is not the cost of the pants, however feeling of being minimalized and no interest in my past patronage spending thousands of dollars over the years. You have not accepted the return of the pants, okay, however, I will never return again either. read more

Had the worst experience I ever had with their CO2 fill station. They fill only up to 80% and charge you full price. They also try to charge me full price again when I bring the tank back and ask them to top off the 20% that is left empty. They just lost a customer forever over $5. read more

I had a very bad experience there today in the gun dept, I waited 30-45 minutes for service and told clerk I wanted to buy a Ruger 10-22 he handed me the form required for the state and said fill it out, I did just that and when I was finished he said you can't use black ink. He then advised me to enter the info again on their computer, I did this and said please don't lose that, he replied no its safe. He failed to tell me to hit finish so all the info was lost, I got upset and asked why he hadn't told me, he suggested I enter it again his name was Nick and had a very poor attitude to a good customer seeming not to give a damn, I will find other places to ship.
