Fourth visit to store. They have a good selection and fair prices. However, on three of the four visits, I experienced unnecessarily long waits to check out. There were 12 people waiting in line with one checker, and I could see the one checker repeatedly called for extra help. I could also see at least 3 other employees on the floor that did not respond. I could hear her call for help repeatedly. Everyone in line had a sour face. I have had much shorter wait in line at Costco on Sunday after payday. read more

Went in today to purchase a couple of items and spoke to the kid behind the gun counter about field glasses, Obvious he was not trained in customer service. He acted clueless as how to talk to customers. Made my way to the check out counter where I was the only one there. I waited for a couple minutes where I got to watch a girl do some dusting of the shelves nearby and two other employees laughing and joking with each other. All of these employees made eye contact with me noticing that I was waiting for help then looked the other way. I stayed at the counter for a while longer then had to interrupt the two chatting employees and ask if they could help me check out. They said oh yea sure then just kept talking to each other. Finally someone did show up to take my money. I will not be back to a place that treats customers so rudely. read more

Service is usually pretty slow and not great customer service Either. We come here to fill CO2 for soda stream modified tanks. Last time the guy said we don't fill soda tanks and I pointed to the Dicks box it was in and said well you've done it a hundred times before. So he went to talk to his manager who turned me away because he said the tank was expired. It turns out it wasn't so they wasted my time yet again. That was after waiting for that dude for a while as well. We've bought plenty of other things there as well but won't anymore. At Christmas there was a hole in some $50ish gloves I bought as a gift from the security tag and they were the only pair so the girl asked if I wanted them anyway. Ummm no thanks. Really!? Terrible service. Staff couldn't answer one question we asked. Terrible selection. My first visit. Probably last. Sunday after thanksgiving and not one item on sale. Asked about that also. Duhhhhh!!! No one knew. Overpriced. Poor brand selection. Same old crap I almost could have gotten at target. Sad. Sporting good stores used to mean something. Terrible experience. Ordered a rifle on 8/9 and was told 1-2 weeks. Now 9/16 had to get a refund because of incompetent employees. Called the store several times asking for a status update and was stonewalled. Finally the only employee(Spencer) who wasn't too lazy to call the vendor(located on the East Coast despite Weatherby being located 30 minutes away) did, and found out that he had no stock. This was roughly 4 weeks after my initial order. When I went in today to get my money back another competent employee found 4 rifles with a different vendor. This could have been completed weeks ago. Told the unhelpful manager Amber that I didn't care and would never shop here again. Better to visit Big 5 for sporting goods and the downtown outdoor shop for hunting gear. read more

As a plus size woman going into a sporting goods store is at the bottom of my list of fun things to do lol. Tonight after spending what seemed like days at Target looking for workout pants I went to Dicks. Aaron helped me. He approached me with an inviting smile and I went from being scared they wouldn't have anything that fit me to confident he would do everything he could to help. He showed me four different options and when I was worried about the fit, he reassured me and encouraged me to try things on. Sure enough the pants for perfectly! When I got out of the dressing room he asked how it went, and with a big smile I said "we have a winner!" He took the rejects and asked if I needed anything else. He was great! Jasper helped me check out and he was sweet and very helpful too! I had a great experience and for sure will be back! Thank you to those two gentlemen for making my experience so great! read more

Was in there today (7-25-14) with my daughter, son in-law and grandsons to buy football gear. My daughter asked for the dressing room to be unlocked and without a greeting the girl said "be sure you put the stuff back on the hangers" or something similar. Rude. This after a visit about three weeks ago where the associate, a male, was very flippant when we asked him for assistance......my husband said "WELL, NOW WE KNOW WHY THEY CALL IT DICK'S". read more

Totally happy when we left. The sales lady helped me order a pair of tennis shoes online and the rest of the staff payed attention to us and we're constantly asking what we were looking for. We bought a pickleball raquet, a shirt and socks. Thank you Dicks sporting goods. We had just come from the tennis warehouse and were totally ignored. I have received a couple of coupons in the mail for 10.00 off, 5% off 10.00 to rewards, etc... and virtually every time I want to use them at the store I find out that they are worthless. I want to go to Dick's but the bad customer service and deceptive advertising is really pissing me off. I really think if the share holders paid attention to the "main street" opinion of this company there would rightly be a major selloff. I'm done with Dick's , the store just flat out sucks. read more

I went to Dick's store in San Luis Obispo for the first time last week. Bought a pair of basketball shoes for my 10 year old daughter. After trying them on and getting a good feel for the shoes, she did some running, pivoting, jumping to try to simulate the actual use for the shoe. Got the shoes "on sale" for about 50 bucks. She wore them for the first time on her game today. Something on the inside the front part of each shoe (where the seams came together) gave both of her pinky toes a blister. We cleaned up the shoe and tried to return them based on the bad result of her wearing them. Before taking them back my daughter and I spend a good 15 minutes cleaning them and making them look as new. The first sales young lady told us that the shoe looked like it had scuffs and scratches and that she didn't think they could take them back (even with the receipt), not even for an exchange. Manager was called and she told me the same thing, that it was company policy. Also, she reminded, that as a customer buying new shoes, my daughter should have "tried the shoes in house" My response was that she did just that but when it comes to shoes, you have to really put them to actual use to find out it they are actually going to do the job. She even dared to suggest that they had other shoes for sale and that I was welcome to go back and purchase another pair. I left furious convinced that I will never go back to this Dick of a store. read more

My family and I went to Dicks today for the first time. A little reluctant because I've heard from 2 people that there help was either, no help at all or very rude, even arrogant. We'll, we got the rude side. We"ll never go there again. I am reviewing the golf department only. I am an avid golfer, and there is only one word for their golf department. SAD. It's Labor Day weekend, you would think they would be stocked with all kinds of golf clubs and accessories. I looked at the putter selection. They were mostly trying to unload a supply of old, crappy Topflight brand putters. Topflight?? Are you kidding me?? The putter selection was just pathetic. Then I looked at golf bags. Again, not much selection, but there were Topflight brand bags. No real golfers want Topflight brand of anything! Where are the REAL name brands? The actual golf club selection was so-so. They had some actual name brands, but not much was current. They were selling club models that were a year or two old, if not more. I definitely will NOT be coming here to buy golf clubs anymore. I am going to drive to Roger Dunn in Arroyo Grande this weekend instead. read more

I went in a couple of days go & spoke with a very knowledgeable sales rep., regarding shotguns. I went back in today, in order to purchase the stock for my gun that the rep. & I had talked about. When I got to the gun sales desk, no employees were anywhere to be found - I asked one of the girls in the shoe dept. & they rung someone up for me. As soon as the guy got there, I could tell he probably couldn't help me...He seemed quite confused & didn't really know what to do. He couldn't find the stock I was looking for, & then realized that they would have to order it from their supplier online. Well after spending 30 minutes waiting while this guy & TWO of his co-workers sat at the computer trying to find the stock, I told them that I was on my lunch break & had to leave. One of the guys who was helping me said, "sorry, but give us a call later & maybe we can help you". I just shook my head & told him, "there's always ebay". It wasn't necessarily the sales rep.'s fault, but seriously? You're going to have 3 guys "working" the gun counter who have no training & have no idea what they're talking about? I should have just gotten the name of the first sales rep I spoke with & only dealt with him. read more
