I went to Dick's on Saturday, January 21, 2023. I spent over $400 on baseball equipment for my grandsons. The bats are all on lock down so you cannot try them unless someone unlocks the batting display. We waited 30 minutes, we saw one staff member walk by that we tried to flag down but she said she could not help us in that department. I got so frustrated. I called the store on my cell phone to ask them to send someone over to the baseball department for assistance. While I was waiting I saw at least two parents just get frustrated and leave because we couldn't get any help. I also want to know why are you are selling $300 bats for little leaguers. That's ridiculous and you need to have cheaper options for people that can't afford them. I think the cheapest one was around $180. An employee finally came over and he was pretty knowledgeable. We were able to pick one out. The lack of employees issue is not new for this store. I've been coming here for years even before Covid and they have never had enough employees on the floor to assist people. You need to have staff that walks around and helps people find what they need and unlock the items that you have on lock down because of theft. I know this store loses many sales due to no assistance. I have walked out before and gone to Big 5 or a batting cage store to get assistance and purchased there instead of Dicks. This was a Saturday and no staffing? It took us 30 min to wait in line for checkout too. We almost left. This store is cool but honestly not worth the hassle. Do better Dick's. read more

I needed to return a pair of lavender crocs. Thanks to a VERY CAPABLE sales assistant, my return went very smoothly. Unfortunately, I did not bring my Email: Order Summary (receipt) but the sales clerk was still able and willing to call a "magic number" to confirm my purchase. I know how it is to close nights in retail but some of their staff was so rude the other night. Some came and asked me if I needed help which was nice, but most were hinting that I checked out now, "check out is that way" "I'm still looking but I'm almost done!" "Oh." This happened 3 times when I still had 45 minutes before close. I finally check out and they had the playoffs on by the register. I also understand that those games are huge but I had to repeat myself multiple times & they didn't give 100% attention for a 3 minute transaction lol I got my products while in a pinch but I will return. This is a poorly staffed store that sells tons of apparel and far less in the way of sporting goods.... very long waits to checkout.

The store itself is nice, but I had a terrible experience with the golf section. The man who helped me out was not helpful at all, and made me feel very uncomfortable to ask any questions or even try the launch monitors. I would not return to this section of DICK's sporting goods just from that experience alone, and I've had good experiences at every other location I've been to. This sentiment is repeated by another yelper who responded to my question about launch monitors, so unfortunately it looks like I'm not alone. As a beginning golfer, I think the experience I had would turn a lot of newbie golfers away from the sport. Last week, my bf and I had an unacceptable experience at this location. My bf loves golf and he was in the market for a new driver. He finds a golf associate to ask to use the simulator. The associate's response: "That is only for customers who are serious about purchasing clubs". UH OH HELL NAH. Is he profiling us right now?!?!?!!!!!. I came here on July 18 around 3:13pm I went to the golf department and there was no one there to help. I pressed the help button and waited for 10-15min and one of the worker walked passed me and he was running the golf section, I forgot to catch his name. I needed help choosing a Golf driver and asked to get fitted. He said we only let people who really want to buy golf clubs use the fitting room. I felt like he pre-judged me thinking I'm not a serious buyer. I honestly felt belittled and felt that he was racial profiling. I gave him a look and I told him are you serious? and he said " you really going to make a purchase?" in a rude manner. I responded yes. But honestly after the interaction I did not want to make any purchase. I contacted corporate and asked for the store head manager to contact me but it's been almost 3 weeks and nothing yet. This morning, I spent $65 but also twenty minutes walking around this massive store looking for hiking socks. I then tried paying for the goods on THIRD floor which had two cash registers with two cashiers, but was advised to go to FIRST floor to pay for the products. If I could give a lower rating I would. Marcus was more than unpleasant. I purchased pants on Sunday close to closing time and didn't have enough time to try them on. Realizing the next day that they didn't fit I went to exchange them forgetting my receipt and having paid with cash. I didn't want my money back I wanted an even exchange and MARCUS was horrible and couldn't be less helpful. I could tell because I'm young he was taking advantage of his manager status. I ended up crying and leaving. Came back the next day with my mother and he said to her that they can't do an even exchange they would basically be charging me a restock fee (on pants I didn't even own for 48 hours, still had the tag on), but also weird because he didn't mention this the day before, just that he allegedly could not exchange it at all. We didn't understand the policy and he said "well listen, you're not listening" she asked to speak to the manager, in which he said he was the manager and that "no one can override" him. She again asked for another manager and then another one came and said "even exchange? No problem." He was horrendous. Genuinely hope no one experiences this. He spent 40 minutes picking out fishing supplies , expecting to get fishing license at a sporting good store. Didn't happen. They didn't have any fishing license applications or anything. I'm being generous with the rating, since I only came for a specific water bottle (Camelbak, for biking, and they had it), and the staff I dealt with was friendly and helpful. First visit here, though I have been to Dick's back in Minnesota a few years ago. I was a bit surprised to see the entire first floor was basically just clothing. To me, that's too much, but just my opinion. The selection of actual sporting goods on the second floor was definitely impressive, however. I wandered about just to take it all in; everything from fitness to racquet sports, golf, camping/shooting, and everything in between. My husband and I decided we needed bikes so we stopped in to our local Dick's to see if we could make it happen. Everyone was super friendly and ready to help/answer and questions. We ended up getting 2 entry level cruisers for a great price. Ron in the bike department was really nice even when I wanted the bike hanging from the rafters, he quickly recruited a fellow staff member and made sure I got the color I wanted :) Val in the bike department was super thorough when safety checking our bikes and made sure we were able to navigate back to our car (Dick's is on the second floor we parked on the ground level). Through online delivery to our home, we bought a Quest Q100 10 x 10 Quick Lift Straight Leg Canopy from Dick's, which broke on first use :(. But I am giving the Dick's in Torrance a 5 star rating because when I brought it back for a refund, I could not lift it by myself to bring it into the store. I parked in a pick-up parking spot and called the store to explain my problem. Promptly, an employee came down, took the item into the store, and then brought me a refund receipt to my car. We're all aware of the proliferation of "e-Commerce" (led by Amazon and their like). Just look at the sudden and unexpected demise of "Sport Chalet" (a former powerhouse of its ilk) once proudly located across from the now "Tender Greens." THIS DICK'S STORE IS VIRTUALLY EMPTY ALMOST ALWAYS! A ridiculous amount of inventory on two levels and no one is even browsing? Ugh. This massive monument to retail is a ghost town. I don't even own stock in the company and I'm anxious. Geez. Rent. Electricity. Air conditioning. Insurance. AND TWO LEVELS? TWO ESCALATORS? Whoever is managing this place is doing a very poor job. The last few times we have gone there it's been a mess. The employees really do not seem enthusiastic about anything in the entire store, and it's hard to find someone to help you. They have some really nice stuff in there and I'm kind of shocked no one is even attempting to sell. I went last week and again this morning for my son's sports equipment and both times the registers were completely backed up. The cashiers were totally unaware of current promotions and signage, everything was marked wrong or not updated in the computers. I used to work retail and I'd be fuming if this was how my store was performing. 2 Stars because the displays are well kept and they have some nice stuff. Service isn't great here. I went to check out Carrie Underwood's collection. Yes, you need to press a button for anyone to open the doors. Also, everything is a mess there- sizes and styles all over the place. I asked about a size the site said they had. Yes, they had it, but only one left, so that meant it was "somewhere on the floor".
