Service was TERRIBLE and the restaurant was empty. It was 8 pm on a Wednesday. It took a very long time to get our drinks . We asked for utensils and napkins because there were none on the table, and she never brought them back. I had to get up and get them from the table behind us. The waitress never checked, never came back with what we asked for, and was just in la la land. The nachos were amazing, that's why this review isn't a one star. The tacos were okay- nothing special. The wings were complete MUSH, we didn't eat them. However, without even complaining, the waitress noticed and took them off the check. *UPDATE* Went back (for just dinner) with friends from out of town... Probably won't be back! Our waitress - maybe she was knew - couldn't answer our menu questions to save her life, had no idea about the sauces, was very inattentive, and couldn't even tell us what type of food DP's actually served!! From being sat, to ordering an app, to finally ordering an entree... was about 25+ minutes, mind you there's no food actually coming to us during that time, not even chips... and she got flustered when some people starting asking questions. I had even asked another server (b/c ours disappeared) to bring me a tortilla to snack on - NEVER GOT IT! And word to the wise: if you don't see it on the menu, don't ask for it! They can't do it! Yes, DP's has nachos, which comes with melted cheese, but ask them to melt cheese on your burrito, and it takes 3 people chatting it up for one person to come tell us NO!... yet no one ever asked the kitchen guys! And don't ask them to make a smothered burrito (enchilada style), because they can't do that either. Huh? You have giant bottles of hot sauce... just pour it on top. On top of all that - my diet cokes (all 2 of them b/c our server never asked if we wanted a refill... we had to seek her out) kept coming to me kind of warm, with practically melted/no ice. Diego Pops has been one of my favorite restaurants since it opened. Unfortunately, I've seen the service go downhill for about the past year. We dined here this evening and ever since our server, Anthony, left it just hasn't been the same. We waited awhile to be seated when it was obviously not busy enough to be waiting. We were finally sat, got waters and ordered drinks and appetizers. While sitting at the table, we saw a cockroach on the art on the wall above the table. Our appetizers came and our server neglected to check on us. We waited around 7 minutes and then had to ask another server for silverware. We then ordered our entrees. As the they came up in the kitchen window, I watched the food sit there for 10-15 minutes. Our server finally brought our food but only brought my entree. I finished my food before he got his and all of our food was cold. He received his crunchy tacos only to find that the tacos shells had been changed to taco shells that you buy at the grocery store (and not the premium... like Kroger)(and not like signature Kroger... value Kroger) LOL. Our server, Taylor, was very pleasant to talk to but could use a bit more training on timing. All in all, our experiences have continued to worsen and we will not be coming back. read more

BEWARE! Their cell phone check-in system is faulty and they'll say you were sent a text to notify you that your table is ready but the text may never come, which happened to me. Then you'll be waiting for 15-20 additional minutes and get annoyed of waiting longer than they said, so you go up and ask when your name will be called. Then they'll say you were sent a text and only had 7 minutes to claim your table. So then you'll be put back on the list and wait for another 15-20 minutes for next available table. What was supposed to be a 20 minute wait turned into an hour. Ridiculous. Don't trust that phone system and go up and ask when your table is ready frequently. read more

You can pretty much get tacos anywhere in the valley but the tacos here stand out! The Brussel Sprout Nachos are the most unique item on the menu. I would have never expected this combo to be so good, but I actually have CRAVINGS for this dish and it's now my staple to order every time we go. When we have family and friends come from out of town, this is one of our favorite spots to take them. The environment is inviting and comfortable which can be tough to find in old town Scottsdale. Don't go here if you're worried about covid-19. All the staff are wearing masks and there's a huge outdoor area they will not serve food at-I was told they wanted to keep it clean. But then you look at the seating inside, which is very small and in open air but they pack people in their like sardines. I was horrified! FYI just because you are "outside" doesn't make you safe. If it wasn't for the manager Priscilla making everything better, I would give this place a lower review. The food is delicious so that obviously calls for a decent rating right there, but the service is absolutely atrocious. I've been there an hour before closing and the bar staff tells me the kitchen is already closed. Upon asking why they respond with "they kind of just decide to do whatever they feel like"...uhh you're a business with clearly listed hours, you should be functioning during said hours. The experience I had yesterday was by far one of the worst. I went there around the end of happy hour hoping to sneak in a last drink before it ended. It took over fifteen minutes of no one saying hello, no water, not even a single acknowledgement from any staff members before I spoke to the incredible manager named Priscilla. She immediately sent over the server by the name of Isaac/Isaiah who was not only beyond rude but one of the absolute worst servers I have experienced EVER. I had seen him during my fifteen minutes of sitting there talking to the staff, texting on his phone, and doing anything but his actual job. When he finally served us he was rude, inattentive, and clearly didn't care at all. He never checked back on food quality. Priscilla basically became our server since Isaac didn't care enough since our bill was being comped anyway. Tacos are small but flavorful, worth $3 but definitely not worth full price. I had the Crispy Cod (left) Beef Machaca (middle) and Green Chili Chicken (right). Diego Pops, a location that has a pink sauce you put on your tacos. Now when I first came to eat at Diego Pops I was skeptical and confused with a bright pink roasted garlic, beets, and cream. So I believe the quote that applies to Diego Pops is "Don't judge a book by it's cover." When you first enter Diego Pops you notice a quote "como Mexico no hay dos" (Like Mexico there is not two) I have not been to a Mexican restaurant quite like this. My first thought was "It is Scottsdale, I don't want to over pay for Mexican food." Everything was blown away as soon as I had gotten to taste my first appetizer Brussels sprouts nachos ($10) who knew that Brussels sprouts and pink taco sauce with an EGG on top make the best nachos I have ever had. These are not your basic nachos the brussels sprouts make this dish amazing, it provides a unique texture and crunch and the taste just melts away inside your mouth. Okay if you get only one item at Diego Pops you HAVE TO HAVE TO get the Braised Green Chile Chicken Taco ($3.5). (Get corn tortillas 100% of the time all the time, anywhere!) Ok, I must confess I would not have ordered this item if I was not with my girlfriend, who is Mexican and super picky about her Mexican food (She says nothing is better than my momma's cooking and I agree). She told me that she half expected her mother to pop her head out of the kitchen. What I regret not eating is the poke, after a certain amount of time (We came at 10pm) they do not serve poke. I heard it was great from a friend, but I will be sure to come extra early next time to try that poke poke. Overall this place is just amazing and I will be eating here regularly.
