I stopped by for dinner this past Saturday, and the restaurant atmosphere was welcoming, casual and homey with flowery decor hanging from the ceiling, as well as clouds illuminated by color-changing lights. Staff was friendly and excited to share the history of the place as the first native-owned restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale. The food items each have their own history too, with the restaurant serving mainly bison meat and very few dairy options on the menu. I ordered the bison ribeye frybread sandwich and this was unexpectedly humongous! I cut it in half, and it was like two full-sized sandwiches. But omg it was so good and I was so hungry, I finished the whole thing. It had me stuffed. That frybread was irresistible -- light, fluffy, and flavorful. And it went perfectly with the juicy nicely seasoned bison meat inside. Wow, what a dish! One of many delicious meals I had during my trip to Arizona this past weekend.

I appreciate that this is an completely owned and operated indigenous native restaurant. They clearly care about their food that they put forth and the inside space is eclectic. Very interesting decor and space- colors popping everywhere, just a really cool, interesting spot worth seeing. I really wanted to try this place because where else was I going to get the chance to? I went with the bison frybread. The frybread was... familiar to me. It was really just a doughboy which I grew up eating. No matter, its what's on the inside that counts! Absolutely delicious bison, cooked perfectly, and layered with an incredibly tasty chimichurri and greens.. But there were only a few chunks of bison in there. It was absolutely overpriced for how little meat you got which was a bit frustrating. Yes, its farm to table, yes bison is typically a bit more expensive in general. But dang, for $26 bucks I expected at least 3oz of meat. Don't come here looking for a large portion of protein, and for many that is perfectly fine, you'll enjoy the flavors.

This was a great spot! My boba sistah recommended it for lunch and we met here one late morning. I hadn't heard of it but then I found out they are fairly new. According to their website, they are the "first and only Native-owned restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale. [Their] dishes feature fresh local cropping, such as beans from Ramona Farms on the local O'odham Nation, just outside of Chandler". There were only two other parties present which I prefer; I don't like to dine-in when it's so busy. Parking was free and plentiful during this time. The lights are dim inside and I enjoyed the music playing; caught a country tune or two. Our server was competent and efficient and her quick rundown of "no pork, chicken or beef: just bison" was a great introduction to this restaurant. I had briefly looked at the menu earlier and the frybread flight caught my eye, but I decided to order the vegetarian Native frybread taco (FRYBREAD TOPPED WITH VEGETARIAN O'ODHAM TEPARY CHILI BEANS | ROMAINE LETTUCE | DICED TOMATOES | SHREDDED CHEDDAR CHEESE | DICED ONION | RED OR GREEN SALSA). I went with the red salsa and it was spicy and delicious. The whole plate was! It was generously topped with beans and the other toppings and the frybread was light, chewy and tasty. I tried some of the three sisters salad, which was presented beautifully, and it tasted good as well. I tried their bison asada for the first time and it was chewy and flavored well. I'm glad to support this restaurant and would recommend it for anyone looking for a unique and delicious dining experience!

An interesting spot in Scottsdale. All of the meat is bison. As the waitress told the table next to us, "no beef, chicken or pork," so be aware if you're a carnivore. The frybread is good and an experience that you should have. I had the CELESTE SPECIAL, which is listed on the menu as "Staff Favorite" (pan-seared bison ribeye in a grilled fluffy Navajo tortilla with wild mushrooms and green chimichurri). This is grilled rather than fried, so the texture is a bit different. I think I prefer the fried bread, but the combination of meat, sauce and mushrooms were great.

We came today on a Sunday a little before 1pm. They were pretty busy but we we secured a table for two. We ordered the set of 3 Burrito St. tacos and a bison ribeye fry bread taco. The Birria tacos were pretty good but a little spicy for me. The Fry bread taco with pesto was so large that it easily fed the two of us and was delicious. The fillings were nice, but the fry bread is the star of the show. This is the best we've ever had; so light and fluffy. Celeste does an amazing job with the Fry bread and making it the most important ingredient of every meal. Everyone is always friendly and our meal came out pretty fast. Next time, maybe we'll split the savory taco and save room for the sweet fried bread dessert.

A must go to in Old Scottsdale! Small business indigenous owned. We had the bison birria tacos and the fry bread with hummus on the side. It was so good!! Service was kind and it all came out quick! A nice space for small or large groups with a friendly atmosphere.

For a truly unique dining experience, head over to The Frybread Lounge! Very comfortable environment and friendly waitstaff. The waitstaff was SO hard-working too! They were serving cocktails and fishes, clearing tables, and so much more. Thanks to Christopher for such great service! This is the only Indigenous restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale, which is special in itself! You're not going to find such delicious and authentic Indigenous food anywhere else, so it's a must visit! For cocktails, we enjoyed the Desert Rose, Canyon Winds, and the Dirty Prickly Pear Refresher. All were delicious and beautifully presented! For entrees, we enjoyed the Traditional Native Taco, the Bison Ribeye Frybread Sandwich, the Bison Rez Burger, and the Vegetarian Native Taco. The portions are HUGE, filling, and flavorful. If nothing else, make sure to get the Frybread!!! It's exceptional and like no other bread you've eaten, guaranteed. If you're looking to try Indigenous food and have a truly unique dining experience, make sure to try The Frybread Lounge!

    Pozole and fry bread
    Rima Z.

Cozy and authentic experience with a lively waitstaff. The pozole was piping hot, full of bison and hominy, and had a great depth of flavor. The line wedges lifted the flavor well. The fry bread was tasty but somewhat lukewarm, which detracted from the flavor. It had a good texture though. Unique flavors, and definitely worth stopping in!

I absolutely gushed when we found this place...wow! A frybread lounge with bison burgers and meat sandwiches, plus fancy drinks IN THE HEART OF OLD TOWN!! Look at this place! It's a whole vibe! They even have books on their cuisine and native decor/artwork on the walls, along with the very helpful bartender who also serves authentic Native American COFFEE!

Frybread taco with salsa. White Blueberry Tea. Yaazh special.

I love NDN tacos and what I appreciated most about this one was how light, crisp, and fresh the frybread was until the very last bite! It was perfect - not greasy, soggy, or tough. The beans and salsa were also delicious! (I order the red salsa but I think I might have gotten the green.) My partner ordered the yaazh special and he loved it. Tender bison with the right amount of potatoes and wild rice. We would definitely order these meals again. (I just wish we lived closer!)

I stopped by The Frybread Lounge with my mom for a late lunch on a Sunday after checking out Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West. As is the norm in Old Town, even though it's a busy area, there's a bunch of street parking. And it's free. We parked by the museum and then walked over. Ambiance (3.5/5): It's a relatively small restaurant with a few seats at the bar, a sofa with some seats surrounding it, and some tables and booths. The ambiance is nice, though it's not my aesthetic. A little too "ladies who brunch" vibe for me, but that's just a personal preference. The location is also great with it being in the heart of Old Town. Service (3/5): Service was quite slow. It took us about 10 minutes to be greeted once we walked into the restaurant, which was a bit strange. All of the waiters and bartenders were serving customers and didn't at once look to the front of the restaurant until quite some time had passed. From there, service picked up until the end, where I had to flag my waiter down to get the bill. Friendly service, just not efficient. Drinks (N/A): I went with a lemonade, so not much to write home about. They do have adult beverages including cocktails, if that tickles your fancy. Food (4/5): One of the things I love about Phoenix is the ability to have indigenous food. This was my third time doing it since I moved to Phoenix. Perhaps the most popular Native American food is fry bread. Often served as a taco, just think of it as a taco with the tortilla replaced with fluffy fried bread. Though it was one of the most expensive items on the menu, I couldn't help but trying the bison ribeye sandwich which comes with indigenous pesto, cilantro, and tomatoes on fry bread. In fact, their menu specializes in bison and most of the options are bison-based. Which is a treat and not something I have every day. While I've had ground bison before, this was my first time having a bison filet. And it was delicious! The fry bread I've had in the past is super oily. Not here. It was a great dish overall. My only complaints? The sandwich doesn't come with a side and it's quite pricey. Overall, the food is good but I think it's a bit overpriced given the portion sizes and what you get. I guess it makes sense given where the restaurant is located. With a more solid service experience, they'd be a four-star in my book.

The restaurant seemed to be very nice, laid back, and family oriented. However, there was a wait, so we wasn't able to stay and partake in their offerings. There is accessible parking upfront, as well as entrance.

Vegetarian frybread (not sure why the cheese is on the side)
    Christine B.

I'm afraid I'm in the smaller group of folks who aren't wowed by this restaurant. I've been to many other frybread spots in town but unfortunately I was a bit disappointed here. The service here was great and I did find the ambiance to be nice. I ordered the Vegetarian Native Frybread Taco ( I did hold the tomato and had the salsa on the side for dipping.) The tepary chili beans were plentiful but I found them to be too firm for my liking and without much of a distinctive flavor. I really didn't care for them at all - a bit of a problem since they were the main feature. The frybread itself was executed well though. Prices are high here, perhaps to keep up with Old Town rent. We were glad we came in to try another place on our list.

Super nice and attentive. There were only two people working that I could see, a gentleman who may have been the manager and a young lady. The man was so respectful and helpful when we said it was our first time. He pulled out the menu and went through it with us. The wall menu is also super helpful. As the tacos are mostly over $6 each, I noticed they have a combo for two tacos, a side and a drink. Great deal if you add two tacos, guac & chips and a drink up separately and compare to the regular price. I ordered the CHIMICHURRI STEAK* grilled steak, basmati rice, chimichurri, avocado, pickled fresnos, queso fresco, flour tortilla. I found this flavorful but I didn't thoroughly read about the rice. I don't care for rice in my tacos. But other than that. I liked it. I also ordered the HATCH CHILE PORK. guac, poblano slaw, pickled fresnos, queso fresco, micro cilantro, corn tortilla This was nice & spicy. Tortillas and all the ingredients seamed very fresh. For my side I ordered the guac and chips. The guac is delicious. Very refreshing. I think the chips are store bought but they are blue corn which I prefer anyway. My husband ordered the GRILLED SALMON. napa slaw, lime crema, pickled fresnos, corn pico, avocado crema, micro cilantro, corn tortilla. He said it was delicious. He also ordered the QUESA BIRRIA. pulled pork, gruyere, queso listo, pickled red onion, micro cilantro, griddled corn tortilla, birria consomé for dipping. He said it was good but lacked flavor. My only negative, and I don't want to necessarily blame the staff as it is the owner's duty to hire enough staff to care for the place. But the floors had little pieces of food spilled everywhere and the tables were sticky. Same with the soda and condiments area. It needs a good cleaning through day. The staff were super busy making food and serving guests. They need to add an additional employee to assist these guys. I'm sure we will be back at some point.

This restaurant is centrally located near the ASU campus and offers generous patio seating in addition to their indoor dining area. I was greeted upon entering and since I was dining alone I decided to sit at the bar. I didn't realize you were supposed to order at the register at the bar, but the bartender was kind and took my order from my seat at the bar instead. I started with chips and salsa, which came with guacamole but I'm not a fan so I didn't give it a try. The chips were perfectly cooked and seemed to be house-made or at least a high quality chip as they were thick and had a good salty flavor. The red salsa had good flavor but mild spice. The green salsa was bright and had a little kick to it. I wasn't super hungry, so I only ordered one chicken taco (without the avocado salsa). The taco was pretty good, although I was anticipating a chopped grilled chicken but it came with more of a pilled marinated chicken. Still good, just not what I expected from a more "authentic" taco. I also missed having a salsa bar with toppings (onions, pico, etc) that you can add. Instead these tacos came as designed by the chef. I also ordered the mango and original house margaritas, both were refreshing and hit the mark with the chips and tacos. They had a $5 margarita for a special as it was Monday, but my margarita was full price. Not sure what the difference was, perhaps a lower quality tequila? This is a great spot for a quick bite or a light happy hour. They are newer, so show some local support!
