I stumbled upon this place with my partner this morning as we were checking out other stores in the area, and we were astounded. We're from Oakland, so to find a delicious little donut spot tucked away in San Ramon was such a treat. The person working the counter was absolutely lovely and were so patient as we made our decisions. I LOVED THESE DONUTS!!!!! They were perfectly fluffy, and rich. The custard filling was to die for! High-priced donuts for quality that was... meh. They were fresh, but what left a bad taste in my mouth was the lady at the counter. She was rude and condascending. I ordered the half-dozen and accidentally pointed to the Twist and see screams, "No! That's more, you can only choose from these!" Hmm, what if I were willing to pay for more? Smaller local minority owned donut shop. It's located in the outer ring of a strip mall (The Marketplace Shopping Center) facing bollinger canyon road. There is a severe lunch crowd at this strip mall due to the many small restaurants located here. During the peak lunch rush you may have to park on the inside parking section and hoof it over. Not that big a deal, and of course only applies to the lunch hour, otherwise there's plenty of parking. The menu is pretty basic. There's you're standard donuts, long jons, cinnimon rolls, apple fritters, donut holes, croissants in both breakfasty (meat, egg, cheese) and plain varieties. It's cash only, but on the other hand a super awesome plain glazed and a cuppa joe will run you less then two bucks. The coffee isn't organic coffee, hand grown by blind nuns as part of an overpriced super elite coffee line. There's no espresso, latte's or anything fancier then a cup of drip coffee in a thermos style dispenser. The coffee come in varuios descriptions-robust, mellow, french, hazelnut, none of which mean anything particularly. It's just good, plain coffee. Perfect with donuts. The donuts are pretty awesome. For some reason in cali it's hard to find decent unhealthy fried sugar laden goodness, but Digby's nails it. Chewy, fried, sweet and made fresh successively throughout the day. Also pretty cheap. The inside has about ten chair/table combos, and there is a counter to sit at facing the window. They have that 1950's rock 'n roll diner look, and they keep it impeccably clean. Spotless even. The owners are of cambodian descent. I have the impression that they've just taken over the business. I've not had any issues with the service, the counter folks move quickly, fill orders politely, and always smile. They recognize regulars and are in general very friendly. They open at 5 am and that donut counter can run down quickly. While they will make more as needed, coming in at 1 pm for six dozen donut holes may be the kind of thing you want to call in a day ahead if you really want them. Frankly, this is an outstanding (and cost effective) place to have a coffee and sweet in. Bonus points for the snarky name. read more

I came in today since I had to bring two dozen donuts to my son's school and wanted to go somewhere close to his school (vs. my favorite one near Deerwood/SRV). There was barely anything left at 9am, but still enough to sell me two dozens...GUESS WHAT?! She wouldn't sell it to me! She was like "Sorry, we're out..."...umm...no, you have at least 4 dozen here that you can sell me half...she refused! I have never experience anything like this before! This was my local go-to donut shop until last weekend. I had almost the same exact experience as Norman M, sans the tearing up of the coupon. Look, if you don't accept it, just say "sorry, we're not accepting those" and leave it at that. Instead, the owner was rude about it. I'm all for supporting small businesses, but if that's the way you're going to treat your customers, then you only have yourself to blame for driving them away. The little Asian lady was very short with me and the person in front of me. She just seemed like she wasn't having a very good day. That being said, good donuts. The presentation was pretty cool. They make a donut with sprinkles in the shape of a heart, and one is in the shape of a foot and actually has individual toes. Would I go here if I was you? Sure, why not. The donuts here were good, not spectacular, but they got the job done. The service was pretty decent, actually. Yeah, they didn't have a huge selection, but then again, we went in at 11am on a weekend, past the prime donut purchase window probably. The biggest problem with this place is their very meager coffee selection. Just drip coffees, no espresso, and flavorings/customizations are limited to two varieties of little International Delight creamers that you dump into your cup. In the age where many morning rituals start with a double skinny 120-degree four-pump cinnamon dolce latte, dealing with disposable creamer tubs and drip coffee could definitely dull the donut buzz for some. read more

Been coming here for 4 years now and I understand the comments about coffee selection, which is minimal and a little bit on the bland side, and.....yes, the customer service is not what it should be. BUT....the raised donut is still a 5 star. Very fresh and soft. The custard filled choco donuts are very good and their apple fritters are very good as well. I pick up my donuts, in and out so the atmosphere does not bother me and the customer service doesn't bother me either since I order and get what I ask for without any problems. Pricing, I don't mind it since that's what it costs area these woods. Everything in SR is more expensive. I've tried cheaper around here and it's not good. Just went to another place today and yes, donut hole is cheaper elsewhere and other donuts slightly cheaper but I did not like the donuts so Dingby's is def worth the price. Donuts are fine. Cash payment only. Do not use the ATM machine. The withdrawal fee labeled on the machine is incorrect. I called the business to let them know that it's misleading and incorrect, but that conversation didn't get far. Fee labeled is $1.75 and then $2.50 several times dependings on what your doing on the mahine. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews unless I totally hated the place, but this was a very mediocre donut. After reading some of the reviews- the "mean lady" wasn't very mean, but she wasn't glowing of kindness. The donut itself was way too sweet, and I'm talking the dough. Service was friendly and fast and the dozen doughnuts were delish! And the work team loves them. There's something great about the little pink box! They have a great variety of fresh baked goods. I went at 7am in a Friday. Four stars because they only take cash (understood given retailer fees on small purchases) and because I would like the front door glass to be cleaner. It's just my thing. I stopped here to buy my mom some donuts for her 86th birthday (her favorite!) The woman behind the counter was extremely nice and even threw in some extra donut holes for her. The donut's are huge and moderately priced especially for the area. I always judge a donut place on there cinnamon rolls and there's were meh. They looked fabulous big and glazed but when I went to take a bite the had that heavy deep fried taste like they were over fried or left in the oil too long. The donut holes were huge too. The only real thing that would maybe stop me from coming here again was the lady at the counter gave me attitude when I asked for a specific donut saying it would break the glaze of the ones next to it and telling me there all the same, well they way you sell you donut on looks is how I also like to enjoy what I'm eating. As a long time supporter of fried foods, I can tell you that a freshly fried donut is better than one from an hours' old batch. These donuts taste fresh and remind you how much the actual dough part of the 'do'nut matters--it shouldn't just act as a frosting or sprinkle vessel but should be able to stand on it's own, which these do. O ya, the coffee isn't piss-poor. Every other donut place around (except Dainty Donut's) has just absolutely wretchedly piss-poor coffee. It's almost to the point of insult. Not here though. I wish I could give negative stars. I do not use the word HATE often so I'll use Extremely Dislike the mean and grouchy lady at the front. Having gone here every Sunday with my Son for the last 3 years, never once was this witch nice to me or even cracked a smile. There was a misunderstanding on the coffee one morning and she straight up yelled at me...then her husband came out and they both were yelling at me in front of my 3 year old son saying I owed $2 more dollars for a refill on coffee. I've been a dedicated customer for the last 2 years, consistently going out of my way to pick up donuts here for my teams. Even putting that aside, I always expect some level of customer service, even if it is a donut place. I called this morning to order 2 doz donuts assorted for pickup in 15 minutes. I got there in 20. There was a guy in front of me who was ordering a few donuts and there were a few boxes on the counter, which I expected to be mine. Once the guy left, I told the lady I was here to pick up the 2 doz I called in for. She gave me a quizzical look and got annoyed - "But YOU LATE! YOU 30 MIN LATE! I ALREADY SOLD YOUR DONUTS TO SOMEONE ELSE!" I said, "i'm not that late... maybe a few minutes late, and maybe you should ask for people's names so you don't sell the donuts to someone else." Anyhow, so I asked her if she had enough donuts for 2 doz. She started putting them in a box. I then asked her for napkins, and she said, "you get them yourself!" I said, "excuse me?" since she has always given me napkins in a bag.... and she said again, "you get them yourself! next to coffee!!!" While paying her, I started taking the napkins out of the bin next to me where she got even more upset, "TOO MUCH!!! YOU STOP!!!" and I said, "well, I do have to feed 20 people and I'm buying 2 doz donuts" and she said, "TOO MUCH! ENOUGH!!!" I was absolutely blown away at this experience this morning. Customer service is important, no matter what industry, especially for your best customers. We live right around the corner -- My husband came here a few months back because I had been hinting at an apple fritter/donut craving. The store was empty when he came in, so he asked the lady behind the counter the difference between some of the donuts on display. Instead of trying to be helpful, she told him rudely to "just pick one." Would rather drive up the hill to Safeway than put up with this kind of customer service. One star! :( read more
