I hope the owner sees this review and improves her customer service and process efficiencies. I came in at 11:45 am on a Wednesday afternoon. There were 2 workers making sandwiches and as I stood to order, no one even acknowledged me as a customer for a good 2 minutes. Finally one of the workers told me she would be with me in a moment. Another 7 minutes pass and literally no one takes my order and no one bothers to even talk to me. The employee faithfully pressing her sandwich could have taken my order but stood there watching the sandwich presser. This is about employee training and it's obvious that the employees weren't trained well. I looked around at the customers sitting down and it was obvious that they had been waiting a long time and I knew that I couldn't wait another 20 minutes for my lunch. I walked out and ordered a sandwich at Journey's. Your product may be good but how will a customer experience your product when delivery and service of your product literally stops them? Please take the time to read customer input because I always root for local businesses and I want to see this place do better. read more

i absolutely love Diggers!!! When my daughter was doing gymnastics next door, we were there all the time!! Their sandwiches are delish!!! I usually order the Solano Spa or the Kolonel Ken for lunch or dinner. The breakfast sandwiches are also fabulous. I usually get the croissant with egg, cheese and ham. The meats and cheeses are sooooo good, as well as the bread!!! I wish my sandwiches turned out as good at home as they do when i order them from Diggers! II've come to know most of the staff - they are all so much fun!!! Gigi and Josh - mom/son owner team...are GREAT!!! Tracy, Ashley and Mike are always fun to chat with while they make my sandwich. I've been back since my daughter quit gymnastics...and when i walk in, they all know me by first name and yell out HI!!!! I've been coming to Digger's for sandwiches since I was a little kid, so I have fond memories of salami sandwiches on sourdough rolls. Now that I live down the street from Digger's, I have to say their sandwiches are as good as I remember (except now, I add peppercini to my sandwiches). As great as the food is, though, one of the things that makes Digger's so great is just the comfortable, friendly vibe the deli has. It has a bit of a "Come on in, you're family" (much like the attitude in Italian families) feel to it. And as if all that weren't enough, the prices are very reasonable, and they offer discounts for a variety of things (such as if you're in In Shape member, which I am). BOO! Drove all the way from Stockton for the Awesome Artichoke sandwich only to be told that when ownership changed the sandwich was removed. Great sandwiches, and sides. I especially like their macaroni salad. My kid loves their sandwiches, which makes it an easy place to please the family for take out on the way home. If you aren't ordering the sourdough roll I'm not quite sure what you're doing... Simply put- sourdough roll. It makes the sandwich. I've been going here for years and it's the only thing to order. If they run out and have store bought we don't even order. I never order any sides so I can't vouch for those. Workers are friendly. If you are in a rush you can call in your order and just skip the ordering line and head straight to payment (big advantage for a short lunch). read more

Turkey bacon is awesome here!!! Why is it special compared to other places?? The turkey is not gamey and all processed tasting. Bacon is that microwave stuff and its crisp and not nasty and rancid. The Sweet Roll bread is soft and not overly chewy. Fresh produce. Excellent mayo spreddage, not all glopy and gross like. Its a masterfully prepared sandwich. Clean, nice staff, and prompt service. I appreciate your response. I came in at about 5 or 6 pm and ordered a just jess with bacon and gluten free bread. I think I was too harsh in my previous review. The food has always been good quality and that kind of reliability can't be overrated. I understand they had just gotten finished with a bad rush right before I got there. Some employees do sometimes seem to have a chip on their shoulder but that's understandable on some level after a tough day and I can definitely relate. I've eaten at Diggers Deli for years. Never disappointed until now. I was on my Lunch break and ordered my sandwich. The girl that took my order started making my sandwich until the phone rang. She stopped and answered the phone and started taking a huge order while laughing and joking on the phone. The whole while my lunch time is ticking away. 20 minutes later another woman asked me if I was still waiting and I told her yes. Shes been on the phone for 20 minutes. So she then went behind the counter and finished my sandwich. The girl was STILL on the phone and never acknowledged me or apologized. I had less then 10 minutes to eat my lunch. Very disappointed. I want to give this place a shout-out. I am impressed with this business, the customer service of the staff, and the quality and deliciousness of the food served here. I couldn't be more pleased. I was tasked with having a meeting hosted in Vacaville, and not being very familiar with restaurants in the area, I spent a good couple of days researching places that could serve up a party platter for about 20 people. I found Digger's Deli very quickly via Yelp, and the reviews convinced me that this would be a pretty good place to choose. Well, it ended up being more than a pretty good place. I first reached out to the deli via one of the e-mails on the deli's official website. Never got a response. So on the first opportunity I had to come visit Vacaville to begin meeting preparations, I came in for lunch. And I became, then, a fervent fan. The interior is not all decked-out and fancy. It's not a La Bou's or Beach House Deli. But you're not there to consume interior decorations. There was a good line of people at the counter waiting to put their order in. I had time to glance around and look at the menu, and I ultimately settled on the Mini Mae -- a sandwich with turkey, avocado, sprouts, and mayo on a white sourdough bun. It came with a small side salad or stuffed egg. I chose a small macaroni salad. It. Was. YUM. The Mini Mae is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The only thing I would do different would be to put it on a sweet roll instead of sourdough. I loved it. And I am not a sandwich person at all. I had to come to town a second time to continue with meeting preparations. I came with a co-worker, and I suggested to her that she try out the deli so I could get her opinion on the place. I forgot what she ordered, but I ordered the Postman Panini -- a sandwich served hot. It has grilled chicken breast, pesto mayo, provolone cheese, red onions, and tomoatoes. It usually comes on sliced sourdough and is then grilled - but I asked for the sweet roll. And i got a small side of macaroni salad again -- I loved it that much the first time around! This meal. Was. Even. BETTER. So it was done. This was the place that we would order our party platter from. I ordered sandwiches, asking for enough to feed 20 people (ultimately it ended up being enough to feed maybe 30-40 people!). I ordered two pounds of the macaroni salad and another two pounds of the red potato salad. The staff were excellent to work with and had great customer service skills, taking time to address questions and concerns and even modifying the order when needed. All in all, I can't say enough about this place. I wish it wasn't so far from Sacramento! read more

I have known Gigi for years. I've always loved diggers. I moved to Fairfield 2 years ago and had the chance to stop at the deli today. I was surprised when I came and the place was empty. No decor on the walls, and two employees (whom were so friendly) however the one making the sandwich didn't seem to know the menu because I had to remind in my sandwich came with bacon - another customer whom came in behind me wanted coffee - they didn't have any made. First and last visit. One turkey sandwich and one San Pellegrino (plain sparkling mineral water). $12 and some change. -The amount of turkey in my heinously overpriced sandwich was insulting. Bad enough to where I contemplated getting up and asking for an explanation from an employee for my sorry excuse for a sandwich. If someone would have come over and asked how everything was, I would have given them an earful. -I ordered the "Mini Mae" which is supposed to be turkey, avocado, sprouts, mayonnaise. I told them I wanted lettuce instead of sprouts and that I wanted provolone on it. Out comes my sandwich, with a shred of turkey, provolone, and way too much shredded lettuce. -Half way through one half of the sandwich I realize there's no avocado on it. Zero avocado. She put avocado and seemed to add more obnoxious lettuce to my already over-lettuced sandwich. Not good. -The bread situation. I got my sandwich on Dutch crunch. I normally love Dutch crunch but holy cow, this was too much bread, too hard, too chewy. I know your bread comes from some bakery in Napa and you love to talk about it being delivered daily but something is just not good about this bread. If it's seriously as fresh as you say then this bakery really needs to improve its recipes. However, the whole insane lack of meat thing trumps the bread issue. Why are you guys SO stingy with the meat? You charge and arm and a leg for a sandwich, when people pay that price they are expecting something special or at least proper ratios. Today went there,they were quite busy, so I get they were rushed and we were even going to deal with them being out of almost of every kind bread. But the customer service was poor. My fiance and I have been renovating our new condo and worked up quite the hunger today. Sitting around in a whirlwind of chaos and progress we contemplated our lunch endeavor. After some consideration, we decided to try the only sandwich shop we haven't tried in town, Diggers Deli. I got the Smokestack and she got the French Dip. While both sandwiches were delcious, the au ju that came with the French Dip was absolutely amazing. Needless to say, we will be back. P.S. The new owner was friendly and great! I have been an almost weekly customer for several years now. After the new owner took over it seemed like they were doing their best to keep the charm of the original business with some minor updates. They've made some good changes to the menu and kept some of the original recipes for some of the other, non-sandwich items, but that's about all the improvement I've seen. As time has gone on a lot of the familiar, enthusiastic faces behind the counter have disappeared. Now, I get that you don't want to make sandwiches for a living but the faces that have been there for years have mostly all left and they've been replaced by younger zombies who half-heartedly groan out phrases that you'd expect to hear in any establishment. Also, in the last few times I've visited, the wait times have gotten longer despite there only being one or two people ordering. To conclude, while I'll probably continue to visit Diggers, it'll likely be on a less frequent basis. I'm sad that a once great sandwich shop is now just kind of just a 2nd choice. read more
