Diggers deli used to be my favorite sandwich shop. I used to get the salami on sour with mayo pickles and lettuce and a little bit of brown mustard the spicy things up. But before the new owners took over the bread did not seem as fresh as it used to and that is the most important part of the sandwich is good salami and fresh sourdough bread!!!! So unfortunately I'm stuck in a wheelchair these days due to a recent leg amputation but one thing I can recommend is please make sure your bread is fresh and soft and has wonderful flavor because that is really important to us the customer. I wish the owners of diggers I mean the new owners good luck. My dad Walter Weir and me Trey Weir would go there before Cal games and pick up sandwiches back in the 70s and diggers was the best back then. Went there with the wife last night for the first time in years. I was not impressed. 3 workers and only one customer in front of us and our 2 sandwich order took nearly 20 minutes. And they got our orders wrong (wife asked for no onions, she got LOTS of onions. I asked for leaf lettuce, but got shredded lettuce). The biggest problem was when 3 girls came in from the gymnastics studio next store. The workers could not seem to concentrate on their work with the girls around. They were overly chatty, and repeatedly stopped what they were doing to banter with these 12 year old girls. The sandwiches were ok, but pricey for what they are. We wont be back. read more

Kind of disappointed. I grew up in the area and loved the BBQs beef sandwich. Decided to stop by there since its been a year since I've gone. I got it to go since I planned on eating in my car. The beef inside was still cold and the sauce was cold too. Also, as another reviewer said looks like a lot of the staff has been replaced with not very hospitable people. This place is the most overrated dump in town. Their bread is stale and old, their turkey is sour and old. They screw your order up because they hire the cheapest labor they can find - high school kids. Stay away unless you want a good case of the runs, like going to some 3rd World country. read more

Walked in at 7:04 pm. Guy looks at me, turns to his female co worker and says "this is all you" and laughs. She looks at me like i somehow ruinned her day, rolls her eyes and walks into the back. Never to be seen again. Out comes an older lady, asks me "you want a sandwich?" no im here for the scenery you tard. Then she tells me that they stop serving at 7 and walks away. There was at least one nice person there, she proceeded to help me through out my order, got home, bread my hard and stale. Folks, the service here is terrible. The sandwiches are average at best. The reason I give one star directly relates to the service. The lady that made my sandwich was surprised that I wanted a large sandwich instead of the half-sandwiches that they offer. In fact, she shook her head in disbelief - maybe she's just sarcastic...but from a customer service perspective...that's simply unacceptable. I can get a sandwich anywhere (and a better one at that)...so I'll go to where I receive the best service possible. You'll probably get better service at McDonald's. read more

2nd time I have brought family. Way over priced. And today I was told my money wasn't acceptable. Now I understand as a buisness owner myself when you won't accept a 50.00 bill or a 100.00 bill on small charges. But to deny accepting a 50.00 bill on a 41.00 tab for 3 drinks, 3 sandwhichs, deviled egg and 2 bags of chips is ridiculous. If your a deli but yet charge like a bistro then you should take the proper denominations of cash. Example: pay with 50.00 bill on 41.00 tab receive 9.00 back drop 2 in tip jar. Your companies way of doing things: no to 50.00 so pay with 3 20.00s which equals 60.00 and now you change out 19.00. Makes no sense. Won't go back again nor refer my clients. read more

This place has always been weird to me for some reason, i think if you weren't a regular it was just over whelming walking in . Came to eat here today and was completely remodeled. It looks pretty good. I will say though that first impressions really do have an impact. the guy that rang me up asked me how I was I responded w good and a smile then got distracted by the cookies (that looked really good) and he said "oh and I'm good too thanks for asking" I was so embarrassed that I had came off so rude that he had to say that to me... totally threw me off. I then hated that I even came here... If it wasn't for the sweet lady telling me to "have a good day sweetheart" or the BOMB sandwich I just ate it would have totally ruined my view of this place.... despite the tastiness... I ordered the mini Mae (soft bread, turkey, sprouts, mayo and I added pepper jack) IT WAS AWESOME! It comes w small side. I got the Mac salad. I will note it was a bit heavy on the cream/mayo. This place used to make the best sandwich in town hands down. Had great service ( a little slow) very friendly and the old man that ran the place was great. They now have a new owner and the service has gone down and the prices up. The new owner was rude to me and one of his employees. I ordered the California Cuban which was really good. The cashier and other employees were all very attentive and made me feel welcome. The guy making my sandwich made a few jokes (which were all funny) and he seemed happy to be there. He also made recommendations for next time but wasn't pushy about it. If I make it home to Vacaville, Digger's Deli is a must! This was definetly my favorite place to grab a quick sandwich to go or get lunch with a friend growing up, and really still is. The friendly small town atmosphere is awesome and something you just don't come by in San Francisco. The decor has changed a bit over the years but still maintains that old town Vacaville feel. The staff is always friendly but if you go during the lunch or early dinner rush you better know what you want cause they try to get you through the line as quickly as possible. My favorite is the turkey on a sweet roll with everything but mayo. Sounds pretty simple, but done in Digger's style its truly amazing. They don't use processed nasty slimy lunch meat, only fresh shaved delicious true deli meat. High five for that. And their menu is expansive if you are not a turkey fan, so don't worry. They also have a huge selection of chips and house made sides as well as about 5 refrigerators full of drinks to choose from. If only they could clone this place and put one in my new neighborhood... read more

Stop here on the way out to the bay area. Love a good small town deli. The people were courteous and nice. They have a great selection of salads. I got the Solano spa which was delicious. This deli has okay food but the service is terrible. We have been here several times and the only real reason we go is because they are the only deli around that puts shredded lettuce on their sandwiches (my husband loves this). The service has been terrible everytime we have gone there. The wait staff are rude and impatient. We hardly go there anymore because of this and would definatly deter anyone who asks us about it specifically for this reason. If they retrained their staff it would make me want to go back but until then we will find somewhere else that is friendlier. read more

Bland baked 'goodies' that are also just store bought Employees seem irritated or like they just have something better to do than be bothered to make me a sandwich This place has no atmosphere, it has this cafeteria-like unwelcoming vibe and they had been playing outdated country music on an almost inaudibly low volume, then again the entire 'digger' gimmick is completely outdated. Ingredients seem somewhat fresh, although the bread is also store bought and they don't slice the meat in front of you which makes me question where this 'deli' gets its meat from, or how long its been sitting in the make line which is kept on the other side across the counter(apparently so i cant see what your doing??) Overall this place making a joke out of what a deli should be, I wouldn't be surprised to see this place on kitchen nightmares though i cringe to think what is actually going on back there. read more

Extremely disappointed in my first and last visit to Diggers. Our sandwiches were ok, however extremely overpriced. My husband and I both had a French dip @$10 per sandwich...nothing special, not worth any more than $4-$5 tops. Did not include a drink or chips...just the sandwich for $10! Now, this is not only about the price...the employees are extremely RUDE. And if you work there, beware, they were talking about coworkers, more than one, calling them out by bame, in front of their customers, complaining about tasks they do not do correctly, or at all. VERY unprofessional! Your customers ARE your business...don't talk smack about ANYONE in front of them...looks REAL BAD!!! We will not be returning. read more

I should have left when I walked in and the place smelled like a locker room. Instead I stayed and was treated to terrible service, overpriced sandwiches and a tasteless meal. I ordered a Reuben and it was made with pastrami! My wife had a turkey, bacon, cream cheese and cranberry and we're still trying to figure out what it actually tasted like. None of the above. $30 for a lunch for two. I can't think of anything I've ever wasted $30 on that was less worth it. Skip this place and go dumpster diving. You'll probably find a better sandwich and it won't smell as bad. read more

This place might be a little hard to find if you havent been there before. It's stuck in the back corner of a semi-abandoned shopping plaza. I had the garlic turkey sandwich, potato salad, and a cookie. Sandwich had a really good garlic sauce on itk, a good amount of meat, and "grain" bread was great. potato salad and cookie were.....eh. If you want a great sandwich made by super nice people, go to Diggers. The food is so good. I especially love the turkey and cranberry sandwich and the ruben. They are sooooo yummy. The salads are great too..if you want a Great Lunch or Dinner, you gotta try it. The catering is exceptional. We had them make and deliver food to a reception after a funeral and it was perfect. I was driving through from Tahoe and as much as I wanted to visit a chain in Vacaville (I live in SF and never eat at chains anymore), my boyfriend convinced me to go here. Sadly we were both quite disappointed with the experience. The sandwiches were tiny--well that is to say they were regular sized (the kind your mom would make you with store bought bread). With the "model" of the special, we thought the sandwiches would be much bigger. I also thought it was odd that even when you dined in everything was served with styrofoam. Quite strange to eat soup out of a styrofoam bowl. I am not planning on returning here on my next trip to Vacaville. Great service though and the owner seems very nice! read more
