Not only did it ruin the flavor but too much salt is not healthy especially for people who may have high blood pressure or some other health conditions. What a lucky night we had. We liked the idea of seafood for our first night on the coast. It was a Tuesday and slow. The waiter was pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant is what seems to be a historic ballroom. We were seated right away by our server and offered water with our menus. I'm just going to say our server was amazing. He was tentative, quick, funny, and honest when he didn't know if the beef was local but quickly returned with a yes answer. The chowder was house made and my husband enjoyed it. The calamari strips were good but not great, same with my husband's burger. The cod was pretty good but the sauce was luke warm and the veggies were over cooked. It was very quiet when we arrived for our late lunch around 2pm on a Saturday. I think it was also quiet partially because of the festival in town We got seated right away with our menus. The server was very attentive. We ordered 3 apps and a salad to share between 2 people and it was plenty of food. We ordered the calamari, bacon wrapped dates, poke and the Niçoise salad. Do not leave Ft. Bragg without eating here!!! Dijon is a family run business. It's located above the Union Lumber Company Store on the top floor. Above the Mendocino Cookie store (yes, I stopped there earlier. No cookie escapes me). Dijon Seafood was recommended by another local business, Sacred Woods. My sister wasn't super hungry so we decided to share the Combo Platter special with the garlic fries. Great decision. Every single bite was perfection. I wanted the whole platter to myself. Haha! I can't wait to return. The table nearby us was raving about their salmon entree. We enjoyed the light jazz music playing. Next time, I'm also ordering homemade churros for dessert. This is a little gem located in downtown Fort Bragg. We came for lunch and the place had lots of available tables...it's newly opened so the secret isn't out yet. We easily found parking. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor and has an entire wall of windows for great views. There is no outdoor patio seating, so no dogs. The vibe is upscale casual. Beautiful wood floors. I think it needs a bit more decor as the get the restaurant into it's groove. I was impressed by their non-alcoholic beverage choices. The mussels were a delicious appetizer. The juices were great for dipping the delicious bread. I had their duck special, which was a tad over cooked (I wasn't asked how I wanted it prepared). Their fish and chips were incredibly good. So satisfying on a foggy chilly day. I had churros and coffee for dessert and OMG!! The churro were warm and were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Like a piece of art, just amazing. The coffee was strong but smooth...so great!!! The service was friendly and efficient. The server treated us like we were the most important table he's ever served. Stopped by for dinner on vacation. It's located on the second floor of the little building where all the shops and sea glass museum is, can't miss it because there's a big entrance sign right by the stairs leading up to it. I had the swordfish (which was the fish of the day at the time) with chimichurri sauce, and my husband had the hanger steak. Among the best mashed potatoes I've ever had, and I loved that the vegetables were well-seasoned and cooked as little strips rather than being an afterthought. The food was all salted very well, which I personally loved, but I could see how some people might think it's a bit too salty for their taste. Ordered sauce on the side for the tacos but it was all covered in sauce instead. We had some gift vouchers that had no expiration date on them from a previous visit and they wouldn't accept them. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious. My husband had the fried seafood combo. I had a mixed green salad and we shared the tuna poké appetizer. The mixed green salad was so good with grated carrots and a homemade oregano vinaigrette. For those who like salads it was perfect. You can also add grilled chicken or fish. I had mine as is. The service was wonderful Moy was our server he was kind knowledgeable, friendly and just pleasant. The location is absolutely gorgeous. It's in an old historic Union lumber CO building. BTW. It's heartbreaking how colonizers came here and decimated the trees. The ocean is right behind it and the sun was beaming in through all the beautiful large windows. No coleslaw! Not only was it supposed to come with my variety (prawns, scallops, and cod) and chips, but I also added a side of coleslaw. What I got was a side salad with arugula, etc. I hate side salads for the most part -- AND the half of my order was a Greek salad, so who needs more salad?!? When I called to report the missing coleslaw and extra side of coleslaw, I was told the "chef" doesn't understand what coleslaw is. I was asked to tell the chef about my issue. I refused. Where is the owner in all this? Why aren't they telling the chef to make coleslaw? Or take it off the menu! I love coleslaw and was sorely disappointed in my order. But that's not the end of it. The fried food was meh, the coating what you would expect of previously frozen fried food. And the Greek salad - oy! Apparently, this chef has never had a real Greek salad. It came with those awful, under ripe, tasteless tomatoes, three big slices that should have been cut up, and this Greek salad had CARROTS. Who puts carrots in Greek salad?!? Cheap feta cheese and wimpy, tasteless dressing made it a real disappointment all around. There are better 'fish and chips' in Fort Bragg, and better restaurants at this price point. The good news is that everyone in our party of 7 people seemed to enjoy the food they ordered. The service was so slow. We arrived at 7 pm and food didn't come out until 8:30 pm. Even my sparkling water was late and I needed it because it's super hot there on the 2nd floor. They had a few cheap fans positioned around the perimeter of the restaurant but few of the windows were open so it didn't help. I used to go here when it was Mendo Bistro. These new owners put in fluorescent lighting which is so wrong. Any ambience that existed before is gone and I feel like I'm in a warehouse. I really don't think I'll return unless it's part of a group thing since they can accommodate a large party. I'd rather pay a little more for the "touristy" restaurants and appreciate a cozy environment with better service. read more

Unfortunately a very mediocre experience. Ambiance: completely devoid of any. Space is like a high school cafeteria, open and sparse and lacking any character or logic. Food is basic and overpriced. We had the mussels, burger, and fish and chips. The mussels were tasty but the rest was under-seasoned and the fish was soggy. Service was slow and inexperienced; the two servers seemed overwhelmed and I did not see anyone else on the floor. There isn't a host stand and it's unclear if you should seat yourself or wait to be seated. Overall the experience was just sad. I felt bad for the serving staff. Friendly service, good food!! We had a special tonight, the pork pibile tacos with habanero sauce on the side, perfect since the Mr. Likes it hot, and I am more careful with the spicy. The pibile was cooked in banana leaves, long and slow with excellent flavor, sauce was not really needed as flavor was right on! They have a diverse menu with lots to choose from, and sauces to choose from for your individual preference, like the old Mendo Bistro that was here before. Happily having company, for a change, we ventured to an amazing new entrance into our local culinary choices. These folks firmly nestled into what I think is the best location when you Visit Fort Bragg, California and we are all the better off for it. My partner in this taste venture optioned for the burger , he enjoyed it immensely saying it was flavorful and perfectly cooked coming with the freshest of condiments and pickles. I chose two appetizers, the first being wings (I grew up on them), they were a special and then the fried calamari strips. The wings were juicy and flavorful and came with celery and some very tasty French fries. I also calamari and try it everywhere, much like I so short ribs at steak houses. We all know that there are many different ways people prepare it and it often comes from a Sysco truck.... not this magnificent version. Harkening back to the days when Jim Larsen patrolled the kitchen of The Restaurant, these squid chefs created an extraordinary taste treat. I enjoyed the bread and clam chowder appetizers. Our entrees were not good. For my entree, I had the combo platter, sub shrimp for the scallops. It was a good idea, I think, since the shrimps were the stars of the show while the cod was so watery the batter was falling off, and it tasted freezer burnt. My partner had a poke bowl with salmon that tasted bland. The bowl had zero flavor, and the salmon was lukewarm. The star of the show was their drinking water. Yes, water. We prefer water with every meal, and this place had stellar tasting water with just the right amount of ice in it. The server was very attentive, topped us off often, which we appreciated, and he was the only server, so the restaurant gets an A+ for that. We had wonderful service it was outstanding! The food was horrible. I was so disappointed. We went to Ft Bragg for sea food and some clam chowder. Maybe other foods are good on the menu I don't know, the fish and chips, shrimp, calamari none of it tasted good. I think the shrimp was old or freezer burnt. Please change the recipe for these items they were horrible. Maybe it was just all old I'm not sure. Very disappointed. We ate here at an odd hour on an ugly rainy day. Our waiter was friendly and polite, perhaps a little casual for some. The best thing I can say for this restaurant is they have a fantastic space- great natural light. It would be a great view if the town wasn't so humble. The architecture is interesting-old but classic. The food was good but not exactly great. My wife loved her burger especially the generous thick slice of onion. She asked for extra onion and got it. I had a taste and agree it was good. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder. The presentation in a black bowl was chic. It could have been hotter- probably fine for most but I prefer piping hot. The chowder was good, better than most but not outstanding. The bread that came with it was top quality and generous. The menu is limited but offers classic coastal dishes. I have health issues that limit my choices. I offer this fact in order to explain that I might not be the best judge of their cuisine. I was there for a light lunch. Better you should take your advice from a lustful, hearty eater. While I eyed their entree dishes, I could not try them. My experience was not negative by any stretch. I was looking for a light meal and got it. If I have a complaint it would be I my preference for more choices. To be fair, it cannot be easy making a go of a restaurant in a small, humble, tourist town where you are forced to rely on locals for some of your income. Bottom line, I am not enthused but I will give them another chance to wow me. I failed to order their best offering at prime time so I cannot fairly criticize my meal. We split an order of Cioppino and a green salad. Both were excellent. The soup came with two slices of sourdough, but we requested the bread with the salad, which was served first. If I were to base my review simply on this, I'd give them five stars. Things they can improve on: 1) Post the price of your specials (the Cioppino, for example), or have the waiter mention the prices. I was surprised at the $37 for the soup, which seemed unduly high for the amount we got. 2) Let customers know if they are going to be charged extra for items. We had the two slices with our salad, then requested more bread to go with the soup. We got (only) two more slices and we were charged $3.50 for the "extra" bread. 3) I realize this practice is growing at restaurants, but I don't appreciate having to pay an extra 4% for using my credit card. I didn't realize this until I read over the bill. I decided to then pay in cash, but the waiter by then was overly busy (there seemed to be only one waiter) and I couldn't get his attention. I used my credit card rather than wait another five or ten minutes to get his attention. (I had already waited several minutes to no avail). We are locals. read more

Stumbled on this place while traveling. Food was fresh & well-seasoned. We enjoyed the Brussels sprout started, steamed muscles, & garden salad. All were plated nicely although the deep bowls were a little tricky to eat out of. If we are ever passing through again, we will definitely stop back in. We were hoping more from this restaurant. I got the fish of the day, which was salmon. It was very good , but everything else was unremarkable. We are getting married in Fort Bragg in May, and are checking out places to recommend to our guest. Unfortunately, this place will not be one of them. Interior is basic. There is nothing that stands out about this place. Our waitress was kind, but she didn't know a thing, and wouldn't say a word. This review is for a take out order. I ordered the poke bowl and with poke bowls, it's all about the quantity and quality of the ahi. This had very little of either. The ahi was definitely not sashimi grade and was full of tough, stringy bits. They are charging as much as the two local restaurants that do poke beautifully. Won't be doing that again. read more
