Came here with a banana island since we both hadn't been here in over 10 years. As secluded as they are, they sure still have a lot of business. The dishes we got were pretty good. The portion for the spare ribs was large, and the noodle dish was solid. Forgot to snap a pic, but got 2 orders of the roti because it was so good. Definitely recommend getting the roti as an app!

I love the Roti here. The Tilapia was well presented too. The service was ok. The place was full today. I like the tropical vibe. Great for family gatherings.

Great place for family friendly southeast asian food, lots of options on the menu, good taste, average prices. What we ordered: 1. Roti Canai - sooo good with the sauce, easily one of their best and most memorable dishes 2. Satay beef skewers - this was okay, I liked the peanut sauce but the beef was very chewy and tough, hard to eat 3. Sarang seafood - pretty good assortment of seafood, liked the arrangement 4. Hainanese Chicken - chicken itself tasted great, not games, tender; the ginger scallion sauce could be stronger though Service: -not bad, get seated fairly quickly and got our food in a reasonable time -waiters didn't really pay much attention to us, but came around when we raised our hand to ask for stuff Space: -located in the Westlake mall, easy to find parking nearby -inside: dim lighting but big space with open seating Overall, I had a good experience eating here with my family. For three people, the price came out to around $80. I would recommend coming to this place if you want to eat southeast asian/asian food and like having a lot of options. The waiters can also speak Cantonese!

Saw a really good review on a Facebook group and decided to give them a try--unfortunately the service was inattentive and food was disappointing. There wasn't a wait when I went for dinner, but it was packed and I have no idea why. The roti canai started off really good, and the sauce that came with it was the best part. Everything went downhill from there, as the Chow Kueh Tiew and Pineapple fried rice were very bland. The pineapple fried rice was slightly better because of the abundance of pineapples, but the chow kueh tiew was lackluster. The seafood in the dish was also notably flavorless along with the noodles, so I was disappointed because this is a classic Singaporean/Malay dish. On top of that, they served a pot of tea (just a regular Asian metal pot with a cheap teabag) and then also charged for it without informing us. It's not common practice for this at non-dim sum Asian restaurants unless they inform you, so I was surprised. Overall food was bad aside from the roti, prices were high for what it was, service was bad, and I wouldn't recommend coming.

Banana Island is one of those places we keep coming back to--and for good reason. We've been here multiple times, and overall, it's consistently great. Food highlights: Roti Canai - Always a winner. Flaky, light, and perfectly crispy on the outside with that soft chew inside. Hands down one of the best orders here and a must every visit. Thai Fried Rice - One of the best I've had. Well-seasoned, smoky, and packed with flavor. As a former cook in a Thai restaurant, I don't say that lightly--this one truly delivers. Pad Thai - Also excellent. Balanced sweetness, tang, and savoriness, with well-cooked noodles and generous toppings. Again, coming from someone who's cooked Thai food professionally, this was impressive. Malaysian Pork Chop - Rich, flavorful, and satisfying. Tender meat with a bold sauce that really stands out--comfort food done right. Volcano Spareribs - This wasn't actually what we thought we ordered initially, but wow... no regrets. Sticky, flavorful, and absolutely worth it. A pleasant surprise and something I'd happily order again. Assam Laksa - This was the only dish that didn't quite work for us. We've tried laksa at many other places, and unfortunately this one fell short of our expectations. The flavor just wasn't for us--but we appreciate the effort and know tastes can vary. Service & ambiance: The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The dining area is clean, inviting, and has a nice, relaxed vibe. One small suggestion would be to check the restroom more frequently, as cleanliness there could be maintained a bit better. Overall: Amazing food, kind staff, and a comfortable atmosphere make Banana Island a spot we'll continue to return to. A few small areas for improvement, but still a solid favorite for Malaysian and Thai comfort food. Highly recommended!

Our second time here & it never disappoints! We got to order our favorite fried rice, red chicken curry, volcano spareribs & spicy wings. We also ordered Thai tea & it was good. Service was quick & they always check on you if your table needed anything. The portions big for the price & everything was yummy!

Been a while since we last visited. Returned to celebrate a birthday. Started with the roti as that's mom's fave. The mango salad was a standout for me - perfect amount of sweet and tangy. The sizzling tofu, fried squid, fried eggplant, and hainan chicken were also good. The lamb rendang was a tad dry. The Malaysian iced coffee was too strong and bitter - wouldn't order that again. Ong choy was ok. Forgot to take pics of most items as the dishes arrived rather quickly. Everyone was too full for dessert. Service was good in that they were friendly and checked on us often.

Great dinner experience here. Service was prompt and efficient, food was delicious. Roti - thin and crispy Beef rendang - a favorite. Very flavorful with very tender beef Chicken satay - maybe deep fried?? Super juicy and delicious, the peanut sauce is amazing Char kway tiao - nice and smoky, good flavor. Thinner noodles. Seafood is cooked well but unseasoned on its own - need to eat with noodles. Kang Kong belacan - great shrimp flavor, huge portion. Would definitely return

Love this place! Over due review but my family brings out of town relatives to this restaurant because of the delicious food. This is a hidden gem in Daly City, westlake neighborhood. The staff and servers are all professional. Their manager has good customer service skills especially with large groups coming to dine at lunch or dinner. Must go to is the roti, chicken satay and the shrimp puff for appetizers. My favorite entrees are the fried rice, and the the taro nest with vegetables. Fried rice menu has so much variety, depending if you like seafood or meat they have it. The fried banana with vanilla ice cream for dessert is a nice sweet ending. The spacing of the seats and table are a good amount with a nice decor around the restaurant. Don't forget to ge their Malaysian Porkchops! Soo delicious and I craved it weekly when I was pregnant. Our family grown from generations to come here. From my grandparents to my nieces and nephews. Great family dining experience. Look forward in coming here again.

Came here on a Sunday around 11:15 AM--easy parking in the garage, and we were seated immediately. We started with their famous roti, which came out fast and was delicious. It's perfect for sharing since it fills you up quickly and is made fresh to order. For the main dishes, we tried the Tom Yum rice noodle soup, Pad Thai, fried squid, and string beans, with mango sticky rice for dessert. Everything was flavorful with generous portions. The total for 5 people came to around $121, including gratuity. The only downside was that the Pad Thai and string beans were a bit too oily for my taste--after a couple of bites, it got a little heavy. But the rice noodle soup was definitely a highlight! There was also the issue of our cup having a lipstick stain and our spoon having food on it. Overall, a solid spot for a big meal with a great variety of flavors

The eight of us celebrated two birthdays here tonight Saturday arriving at 5pm. We sat at a round table in the back. Three of us remembered the footprint used to be Applebees. That's how long ago it's been. We left the food ordering to two folks who are very familiar with the menu. I thought the starters were better than the entrees. Shoutouts for - * roti * bacon wrapped shrimp * chicken satay No photos of food as quickly devoured. Halfway through our meal our plates were changed. We thought that was service. We finished dinner around 6:30pm. There was a huge crowd waiting to be seated. We paid in cash. Then the server came back and said we overpaid. Gratuity was already added. That was integrity as he could have pocketed the money. Food came in a steady flow. I thought portion sizes were small. We ordered 1 1/2 orders for the starters. Minus one star as I thought some of the food was too greasy. .

Boyfriend made a reservation for here for our 1-year anniversary dinner. Banana Island is a Singaporean/Malaysian/Thai fusion restaurant that is SUPER popular. The crowd waiting in the lobby on a Saturday night was CRAZY crowded, and I'm so glad my boyfriend got a reservation. The hostess at the front desk said I looked so beautiful, which was very sweet of her. I got a belacaran noodle dish, and he got pad thai. We really enjoyed our dinner! Afterwards, one of the nice waiters helped us get photos together. We had a great time here together!

Had another great experience at Banana Island. The food is flavorful and satisfying, but the roti really stands out perfectly cooked, soft inside with a nice flaky texture. So good you'll want extra. The service is excellent, staff is polite, attentive and genuinely friendly. The ambiance is calm and inviting, with a nice atmosphere that works for both casual dining and catching up with friends. Solid food great service and a comfortable setting. Highly recommended.

I can't stop thinking about the ginger onion sauce from Gai Chicken Rice; it went beautifully with the skinless poached chicken breast used in the Lean Gai. I absolutely love that this is even an option on the menu, as dark meat is generally the foodie favorite. I wasn't certain I would, but I liked the crispy version, which uses thigh meat, in equal measure. For this dish, I chose sweet chili sauce which traditionally pairs well with fried Asian foods. Gai expertly executes the trifecta of incredibly moist & flavorful chicken, rice luxuriously cooked in chicken stock, & piquant sauces. Pickled cucumber complements the richness with freshness & acidity. The only thing that could make this lunch more perfect is if I were eating it in a Southeast Asian country instead of my own backyard.
