We were rudely seated, and as a table, we laughingly agreed that the emotional abuse from wait staff was probably a good omen, and indeed it was. RICE NOODLE ROLL: 5/5. So good. The noodles were silky soft and the shrimp was super fresh. SHRIMP DUMPLINGS: 5/5. A classic. The wrapper was thin and chewy, the shrimp was succulent. PAN FRIED BUNS: 5/5. The bread itself was a work of art. Usually I just pull out the stuffing, but the pillowy, sweet, thin bao bread stole the show for me. SHUMAI: 5/5. Another staple. It was fine, but I was too busy with the soup dumplings. SOUP DUMPLINGS: 5/5. SO much rich, savory broth. With the soy sauce and ginger? Transcendent. EGG TARTS: 6/5. I'm just gonna go ahead and say I've never given a 6, and that these are the best egg tarts I've had in my big chungus life, period. The pastry was so crisp, flaky, and buttery and the custard! Stopped by the area last week on Tuesday. With very limited spots open after 10pm, this was the pick of the night. Was this the best choice ever or what! We were immediately greeted and seated as soon as we walked in. We ordered multiple things but honestly I was so focused on eating it all up I forgot to take pictures of everything else lol. 4 stars. The dumplings were incredibly fresh. I chose the Pork and Chive, they were absolutely delicious. Each order comes with three dumplings. Honestly, I could have kept eating more, but I wanted to save room for a main dish. By the way, they have so many dumpling options. Yesterday's lunch at Dim Sum Palace was disappointing. I had the roast duck over rice. The duck skin was crisp and delicious but there was hardly any meat on the pieces. I must admit Dim Sum Palace is a bit pricier than dim sum in Chinatown. They got a lot of dim sum dishes though and the menu shows the pictures in case you are lost at the name of the dim sum. Most of the dishes were around $7 for 2, 3, or 4 pieces of dim sum. I liked how they have durian pastry that came in 3 for $7.95, which is what I got. The durian puffs were very crispy and flaky. There was little durian inside the puff. It was very fresh though. I like how it tasted. It left a stink in my mouth but it was a good kind of stink since it is known as tasty stinky fruit. I got sticky rice with pork & dried baby shrimp in lotus leaf that came in 2 and it was kind of tiny compared to another place I go to. It tasted good though and the sausage inside was a big piece that was very sweet and tasty. Since I wrote a review about this place, I got free sweet sesame ball with lotus seed that came in 3. They were very tasty and semisweet. The sesame seeds gave the balls a good flavor. Since the dim sum dishes were not enough food for lunch I got myself a lunch bowl, soy sauce chicken over rice at $13.25. Kind of pricey. The bowl it came in was reusable though and a good kind of plastic and spacious. The chicken was mostly the leg part and dark meat with some scallions and ginger on it. The boiled egg was alright but was too soft. Did not think it should be that pricey for this chicken bowl. Some part of the menu was hard to understand like the lunch specials. I was guessing on it too hard whether the lunch specials included rice or not. I did not ask though since I settled for the soy sauce chicken. So to this day I don't know if the lunch specials got rice or not. It just said the main dish lunch special includes hot and sour soup or egg drop soup, which is not what I like because of course I need rice with the dish or else it's not comforting. This restaurant serves off a picture menu. You mark what you want on the menu and the waiter adds anything else that you want on that same menu. We had scallion pancakes. Good but not great. I ordered from here mid December in the middle of a dim sum super craving. It was freezing out so I ordered wonton soup, garlic chicken wings and shrimp shu mai. Went back to my office to indulge and discovered that they forgot the shu mai. I called up and they were like oops we forgot (so they had never charged me). The lady at the counter is pretty straightforward but not rude so I understood. & I mean no real loss I was just indulging in midday snacks one less one didn't make a difference. The soup was HUGE the wontons were super heathy and I am not supposed to be eating fried foods. You cannot park outside, they have a pick up/ take outside and a sit down to stay side. I usually go the other location on Division st for consistently great food but since it was freezing and this location is a 5 minute walk from me, decided to come here. We ordered the Peking Duck dish and came with 10 pancakes. It was pretty decent. Only gripe was the salt and pepper deep fried silver fish dish did not come with a whole lot of whole fishies. If you've never had silver fish, you wont know what I am talking about. Most were heavily coated deep fried fish filets. Lobster was just alright as with the other dishes. Service is good. read more

I had lunch to commemorate National Noodle Day back in October. I was seated quickly. Overall ambiance was a blend of American and family style Chinese restaurant vibe. It was packed for lunch. I ordered the soup dumplings and noodle soup with roasted duck. The roast duck noodle soup hit the spot. My dad and I ate here for Sunday brunch and really enjoyed it. We were happy there was no line and we were able to get seated immediately. Inside there is a large bar with lots of alcohol offerings, fish tanks filled with crabs, eels and fish, and table and booth seating were available. We didn't have much interaction with our server, but that has been my experience at most dim sum places in the city. We ordered off the dim sum menu, using a pen to indicate our choices, and our food arrived quickly, steaming hot. My favorite were the Black Truffle Shrimp Dumplings, which were flavorful, chewy and delicious. I also enjoyed the beef tripe. the shredded roast duck dumplings and shrimp dumplings were pretty good, as well as these fried crispy rolls filled with shrimp and served with mayonnaise, but they fried rolls were on the greasier side. I wish they had more congee options on the menu as I'm not a huge fan of thousand year egg, and honestly, more options overall would have been great, but I think the menu changes, so it could be worth trying one of their other locations or coming back in a few months. What we ordered was plenty for two of us and that food brought us back to life! I think one of the best aspects of this spot is that it seems pretty authentic, despite being in FiDi, and is open very late, so one craving dim sum in the area doesn't need to trek to Chinatown for some tasty dim sum. read more

My roommate and I ordered takeout from Dim Sum Palace, and the first thing I noticed was how extensive the menu is! I decided on a small Watercress Tofu Soup and Lettuce Wrap With Minced Chicken. The "small" soup actually came in a large container -- just enough for two people -- which made the $16.95 price tag a bit more understandable, though still on the pricey side for tofu and watercress in broth. The soup was flavorful overall, but I wish the tofu had been cut into smaller pieces, and I might have preferred a different vegetable than watercress since it was somewhat stringy and tended to clump together. While the broth tasted clean, I did notice some gleaming oil on top and would have preferred it to be a bit lighter, though that may be fairly standard. The chicken lettuce wraps were also good and a nice starter for $13.95! It came with three thin lettuce wraps and enough minced chicken and peanut topping. The peanuts were finely chopped, so there wasn't much contrast in texture or flavor, and the side sauce was a little too sweet and thick for my taste -- though the wraps were flavorful enough without it. Overall, I enjoyed my meal, but I don't think the value was totally there for me. If I were to order again, I'd likely stick with the same dishes or explore another soup option, though it's not a spot I'd actively seek out. read more

We didn't make a reservation, but we were able to get in on Christmas Day, which was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant was very clean, and the dishes came out quickly. My favorites were the chicken fried rice and the shrimp dumplings. One small note: the waiter didn't seem to know what seltzer was, so we gave up and ordered water. This location of Dim Sum Palace in the FiDi is more of a take out location than the Chinatown location, however it doesn't mean the isn't of high quality. There is a separate store front next to the take out location that does offer dine in service and from what I examined the ambiance of the location is more downtown bar and restaurant chic than your normal dim sum palace with gold leaf and lots of red decor. The service on the take out side feels a little standoffish with them not really offering anything more than the bare minimum. In fact, when I asked about condiments they said it's already in the bag. When I got back home, I found that it was not in the bag so that was a disappointment. With that said, the food was on point. The shui mai and hai gow tasted like they were supposed to and the beef chow fun was just oily enough to meet the needs of the textural element separation of the chow fun noodles and beef flanks. Overall, a good stand by if you're in the FiDi, but not really somewhere you should go out of your way to find. read more

Came here a couple months ago and felt pretty ripped off. The food is ok, but I had some serious sticker shock when I received the bill. The restaurant is pretty unassuming from the exterior, looks like fairly generic Chinese restaurant, a bit nicer ambiance than your average Chinatown spot. Along with the requisite round family style dining tables, they have plush seating, backlit murals of Chinese watercolor landscape art along the walls. A sign of its FiDi location and aim to appeal to a more gentrified clientele is their wine fridge with quite a stocked selection of bottles. Seating at the front of the restaurant is sufficient for about 100 people, there are a couple private rooms in the back with seating for 10-16 people. The party I came with pre-booked one of the rooms since we had a few young children with us. Food: - vegetables: the string beans were terrific, would recommend these. The pea shoots were good, light and slightly garlicky, similar prep to other restaurants. - chicken with broccoli, pork with sweet and sour sauce: ok, pretty standard. - dimsum: steamed shrimp dumplings, steamed rice noodles with shrimp and beef inside, Shanghai soup dumplings, siumai and steamed charsiu buns (last three not pictured) - these were all executed solidly, however they give fewer items (for examples 4 soup dumplings per steamer tray compared to 6 at other restaurants). What was not solid was the $12.95 price tag per each item. We ordered about 15 dim sum items so that was $195 not including tax and tip... - steamed fish: it was prepared decently in a traditional style with ginger, scallions and a light soy sauce, but boy, at $120 super overpriced. - jumbo crab: they steamed the legs and stir-fried the rest into crab fried rice. Flavor wise ok, nothing special. The crab was fresh--they brought it out and placed it on our table before taking it back to the kitchen. But... $650 wasn't a price tag I thought to see at a restaurant like this, though there we were. In trying to be fair, this was the largest crab that I'd ever tasted in my entire life, though at the same time it was definitely not prepared in any special way where I would have consciously consented to pay this amount of money for the few pieces I ate. Staff was polite and professional overall, no complaints here. I didn't book the private room or plan this dinner, though looking at the menu afterwards, the prices we were charged were waay more expensive than the printed menu prices. I didn't realize we were being upcharged so much, the total was an amount per person was staggering and something I would consider spending at a Michelin rated 1-2 star restaurant, not here. This place was great! We really enjoyed the food. The shrimp roll was a lot more textured than normal, which just added to the experience. There is use of cinnamon and the Chinese five spice powder in one of the meat dumplings that was in the clear wrap. We really really enjoyed it . Even the Jasmine tea was notable. We had been to the restaurant located on the Bowery at Chatham Square, Chinatown, operating towards the tail end of the Covid pandemic. A devastating fire ended that short existence. The business had opened at this new location on Division Street a year ago, and we tried it for dinner. Spanking new digs, shiny decor. Nice. I like that the menu has lots of pictures. We had the beef short ribs. Seasoned just right, tender. I even ate some of the fat off the bone. It was that good. I like the calamari with cashews and peppers. No need for marinara sauce. The pea shoots in broth with dry shrimp was very tasty. Service was attentive. Even the tea pot was refilled quickly, gratis. Now we have to come back for dim sum. The food isn't too bad but of course the price that comes with it makes the meal itself just a tad bit less appetizing. We had ordered a variety of dimsum sally of which were pretty good and nothing to complain about. Your standard dimsum choices and flavors. I would recommend only if you have a dinsum craving like I did that day. This place is open 24/7 and is pretty convenient when you've had a few too many drinks in the middle of the night. This review is for the take-out section of this Dim Sun Palace. I love coming here because it is one of the few Cantonese places down here at FiDi. As a Cantonese myself, I like that I don't need to go all the way up to Chinatown to get a "fix" that tastes like home. Dim Sum Palace is a pretty successful chain. It has a couple of restaurants throughout Manhattan. The ones I know are all downtown, in Chinatown and on 2nd Ave in East Village. I love the one FiDi the most because I have been coming here at least once a week in the past two months. PS: I always order the same dishes like soy sauce chicken or duck over rice ($14 with taxes). And I love that they offer a small space (stools and wall tables) for those take outs to "dine in". The cashiers and staff are always friendly, and they are quick on their feet. People love this place, and it gets busy during dinner hours. Expect neighbors, tourists, workers nearby and students alike walking in and out of the takeout doors. It can get cold in the fall/winter as people come in and out. The space is small but hey, they do a great job. The orders come quickly so you can never have to wait for too long. Overall, I love the convenience of this place. I will be coming back for more throughout the year. read more
