Dim Sum Yuan is a great place to come to. There's not many dim sum places on the east side but it's a nice little place to get that fix. It's located in a plaza so there is plenty of parking available in the lot. I got the siu mai, shrimp dumplings, won ton soup, shrimp tofu skin rice noodle, spare ribs, and crispy shrimp tofu skin rolls. All were really good and came out right away so the dishes were very hot! It is self service through a QR code but those working are attentive and very nice. Let me start by saying the dim sum here is pretty decent. Not the best I have ever had but solid, and worth knowing about if you are in the Kirkland area and craving dim sum. That said there are a few things about the experience that I want to be upfront about. I was originally going to DoorDash it but the markup was significant, around 20% more on top of an already steep delivery fee, so I called in my order instead. Even picking up directly, the prices were a bit of a shock coming from LA where you can get dim sum items for around 4 to 5 dollars each. Here everything is around 8 to 10 dollars per item, which adds up fast. I would normally feel satisfied spending around 25 to 30 dollars per person on dim sum but here you are looking at closer to 40 per person for takeout, and that is before any tip. Speaking of tip, I do not typically tip on takeout and I do not think most people do either, but that did not stop them from turning around the iPad with 18, 20, and 25 percent preselected as the only visible options. Pressing custom tip and then typing in zero while the staff is watching you do it is an awkward experience that I think most places should rethink. It is a small thing but it leaves a bit of an uncomfortable impression. As for the food itself, the dim sum is solid overall. The shu mai could be a little meatier in my opinion, it felt a little light on the filling. My biggest gripe though was the soy sauce situation. I had to specifically ask for soy sauce and chili, and they gave me one single packet. One. For a full takeout order of dim sum. That felt really stingy and is an easy thing to fix. If they loosen up on the condiments and work on the tip screen situation I think this place would be a much more enjoyable experience overall. The food itself is worth trying, just go in knowing what to expect price wise. read more

The food was fine and all, but I likely will not visit again for dim sum, which is a shame since it's hard to find good dim sum on the Eastside. I visited Dim Sum Yuan while in the area, and was excited to see the high ratings. There was even a line out the door, so figured it was where to go on a Sunday morning. I waited for about 15 minutes, which was not bad and service was even faster since you scan the QR code for ordering and the food is brought when ready. I ordered the steamed dim sum platter, wonton noodle soup and egg custard buns. I was most excited for the dim sum platter, which included two of each of the shu mai, har gow and chive and shrimp. Unfortunately, they were all difficult to eat because everything was sticking together, so was hard to separate and when I tried to do so, the dim sum would break and all the filling would come out. Gah! There needs to be more room in the steamer for the dim sum pieces to not touch and stick together or a parchment paper to separate them. Of what I did try, they were solid, with the shu mai being the clear winner. The wonton noodle soup's broth was bland, so ended up adding chili oil to spice it up. I did like how juicy the wontons in the soup were though. The egg custard buns were disappointing. It was a lot of bun with little custard inside. Skip this one. I can see why Dim Sum Yuan is popular on the Eastside since we don't have many spots. But for the high prices for mediocre dim sum, I'd rather just travel to Seattle for where I've had better luck in finding solid dim sum. Better luck next time. read more

Dim Sum Yuan is a small family owned restaurant in a non-descript strip mall that has a good selection of dim sum classics, as well as my favorite version of wonton noodle soup. The shumai and har gow are large and plump. Loved the bean cured roll here too. But my favorite dish here is the wonton noodle soup. The dumplings are solid, but the broth is what I love. Rather than a seafood base, the broth is pork based which makes it a little heavier and more savory. Noodles are also perfectly cooked, and you can select from 3 different types. Very interesting concept as they sell dimsum as long as they are open (usually dimsum is sold during morning-lunch or until afternoon only at other places) First glance, the price might be a little on the higher side (30-50%). Most of them are quite justified as the filling is really packed! They do not skim on it so each bite is full of seafood or fillings. They are cooked to order so they come out nice and hot! Servers are attentive, came by a few times to check on us and offered water refill. The only downside is this place does not offer chilli oil which is essential for dimsum imo. We had read about Dim Sum Yuan opening in Kirkland so decided to check it out last night. We had our pup with us and were in our camper van, so decided to do takeout and eat in our van in the parking lot. So everything was as hot fresh as if we had eaten in the restaurant. And such a great surprise that they do takeout! We ordered Pork and Shrimp Dumplings ( same as Siu Mai), Spare Ribs in Black Bean Sauce, Roast Pork Buns and Pan-fried Gyoza. Everything was delicious, we were disappointed they were sold out of some things but we found some good alternates. Hubs loved the pork and shrimp dumplings, I can't eat shrimp so I wasn't able to taste these. The spare ribs in black bean sauce had amazing flavor, and we're very tender. The roast pork buns were also delicious and the bau was soft and fluffy, tho they could have used a bit more filling. The pan fried gyoza were by far the best I've had. So large and plump full of the pork filling (tho wish they were a little less salty). It's definitely clear the gyoza were house made - which is really hard to find anymore. (We'd heard everything was house made) Wish they were a little closer to us as we might go a bit more often, though it was worth the 20ish minute drive there. Dim Sum Yuan is a small family owned dim sum and Cantonese noodles restaurant that offers full day dim sum menu. Although it has opened for some time already, its operations is still very hectic, with no clear waitlist management leaving most customers confused. The three wait staffs are overwhelmed and unable to handle the Sunday crowd, but at least they are apologetic and polite. The restaurant is also uncomfortably hot with their AC barely working. The menu covers all the dim sum classics but no "fancy specials" that the more traditional large dim sum plus seafood restaurants offer. Overall taste is fresh but average which doesn't quite justify the higher price point. If you live nearby, this may be a decent option on non-weekends when there's less of a crowd, but as it's more than 10 mins for me, it's unlikely that I will return. read more

Enjoyed this cozy little dim sum place in Totem Lake! It doesn't have the traditional carts that bump into your large tables, but it does have easy ordering with your phone, and the food comes out hot and fresh. We got the typical favorites to try, our favorite was the sticky rice that was chock full of pork, shrimp, egg, bamboo, and mushrooms. Siu mai was similarly full of shrimp, and the spare ribs were tender and moist though I wish it had a little more black beans. Also really enjoyed the BBQ pork rice noodle roll that was full of meat and the noodle was nice and chewy. Soup dumplings had a decent flavor but two of the four dumplings leaked when we picked them up and the wrapping was kinda tasteless, so I wouldn't order that again. Like the other reviewers that rated it very low, the dim sum is not handmade and tastes like frozen. I rarely review places, but felt it was necessary to warn people about this place so they don't get trapped in by their "handmade" slogan; especially when dim sum is lacking in the Kirkland area. The prices are also high (almost all dishes trend around $8+) and everything was super bland. See pictures to get the idea....save your money and appetite for something wayyyy better. And also - they don't have AC in the restaurant, so on a hot day (we happened to go when it was 84 degrees out) prepare to sweat it out in their sauna like atmosphere. Came here for dim sum and overall had a pretty solid experience. The biggest thing that stood out to me was how clean and balanced the flavors were. Compared to more traditional spots in the greater Seattle area, the dishes leaned lighter, which I actually appreciated. It let the ingredients come through more instead of everything being overly heavy or salty. You can tell the food is made fresh, and that makes a difference. At first glance, the prices felt a bit steep, but given the convenience and the Kirkland location, it makes sense. You're definitely paying a bit of a premium for that, but it didn't feel unreasonable. Service and space itself was average and has the opportunity to improve to enhance the experience. Definitely a mom and pop shop, but honestly, no complaints. It was clean and my water was refilled consistently, which checks the box for me. New dim sum spot in Kirkland. Not your typical dim sum joint with all the large tables, more like a smaller restaurant which is cozy. Ample parking inside the plaza. They offer an all day dim sum menu until 9pm which is sweet. Portions are a bit small and many items are served as 3 pieces which can be troublesome for a party of 4. I'm hopeful for their success but currently the service and value of food with respect to size leaves a bit to be desired. Service is definitely still a work in progress. They provided physical menus and we were waiting to order. Then they accidentally gave us an item we didn't order (as we hadn't ordered yet). We let them know and also mentioned we were ready to order but they never responded or came back. Turns out you can order from the QR code at the table, but the physical menu was a bit misleading. Prawn Dumplings - these remind me of Costco's har gow being tiny with a bit of bamboo shoots inside. Though these tasted much better than the ones in Costco's fridge. Besides being small, it was a typical shrimp dumpling. Siu Mai - another typical dim sum dish, tasted right, just a bit small. Flavorful, juicy, and a solid balance of pork and shrimp. Turnip Cake - another traditional dim sum dish, similar comments as above. Overall delicious, accurate flavor and texture with a soft interior and crispiness on the outside. Could be better if they were larger and a little crispier, but overall tasty. Roast Pork Buns - rather than the typical cha siu bao with BBQ pork, these are honey pork. The bao itself is soft, fluffy, and tasty. I personally prefer BBQ pork by a long shot, but this is solid for what it is. Got the privilege of attending their soft opening and so excited to see this place grow! Being it was a soft opening, there were a few items that weren't available but overall the stuff I enjoy eating at dim sum restaurants were available. The owners and staff were very friendly. It's a family owned restaurant that makes everything in house. You can taste the freshness and quality in the food. The chicken feet were my favorite, so tender and full of flavor. I liked them so much I ordered it 3 times. The shrimp dumplings, radish cake and taro puff pastries were great as well. Besides a little lack of decor, which I'm sure will be addressed in no time, this place is a much needed great addition to the area. Definitely a place I see myself coming too often. The most disappointing dish was the beef brisket noodles. The broth was not clear as expected for traditional preparation which would have been fine but the flavor was lacking. The brisket flavor did not come through and the over flavor was not tasty. Also the veggie dish sauce to veggie was odd. Not enough sauce for the amount of veggie. Weekends are almost the perfect time for dim sum. I drove by this restaurant and it is difficult to see from the street. Parking was easy to find. When we walked in, it was a bit chilly and everyone was wearing jackets and sweaters. The menu is done online at the table which makes it very easy order on an ad hoc style. The prices and quantity was about average for dim sum. The flavors are excellent and make up for the sparse dining area. We will definitely be back to explore more of the menu. Given all the high reviews and the mention by 'The Infatuation Seattle,' I thought this place would be decent. In reality, it was the worst dim sum I've had in a long time. Never mind at their air-conditioning was not working on a blazing hot day. We ordered some of the standards: black bean spare ribs, pork siu mai, steamed hum bao, and wonton noodle soup for our 4-year-old. They advertise these as 'handmade,' but they are definitely not; they are clearly frozen and then steamed. You can tell by the pale color, the lack of flavor, and how small and uniform they are. The noodle soup also lacked flavor, and they used an uncommon type of noodle that I haven't seen before. We will definitely never be coming back to this establishment and would certainly not recommend it. Even for the Eastside, there are definitely much better options. read more

I really wanted to try their buckwheat noodles but they didn't have any available yet for their first week of opening. We were also hoping for more dim sum options for dinner, but only a few things were available. I would be here like every week if they did since I love dim sum! So exciting to have a scrumptious dim sum place in an unassuming location in one of the strip malls in the Totem Lake area of of Kirkland! Although no place seems to have any of the rolling carts anymore, it was very helpful to have a photo menu and ability to order by QR code. everything we had came out hot, in a timely way, and was reasonably priced (although maybe a bit high). I was surprised to find that I loved the fried turnip cake with cured meats the most! It was a perfect balance of salty, sticky umami deliciousness. So thrilled to have an awesome new dimsum place in Kirkland! This place was packed when we arrived first thing at 11am on Sunday, probably because it was featured on a popular Instagram recently. Highly recommend getting there early, otherwise you'll need to wait around an hour for the next turnover of guests. Food was great, good flavor, texture, and overall decent portion sizes. Soup dumplings and har gow were flavorful and thin skinned but held up well. Steamed pork buns were very fluffy. Would definitely recommend rice rolls with shrimp, and the won ton noodle soup. Tea didn't have much flavor, but that's a minor detail. I liked ordering with the QR code, made it very easy for our group. Plus they attach your receipt to the table so you can keep track. Despite the big weekend rush (people were constantly ordering take out on top of the in-house customers), I think we were still served in a very reasonable time. The menu was provided but, was also told to order by scanning a QR code. This was a bit of a turn off but it seemed logical to main stream things and cost effective in terms of ordering. Was here several months ago and just getting to review. The food was just ok. Prices were fair compared to other dim sum places. They didn't have a lot of the normal dim sum foods. The beef brisket soup noodle I would have to say was the best of everything we ordered. The afternoon we were here they were doing some kind of photo shoot. Everything we had was handcrafted, fresh, and served hot exactly what you hope for but don't always get. We ordered the sesame noodles, chicken sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf, chicken dim sum, shrimp & chive dumplings, turnip fry, and a tofu skin roll wrapped in a delicate rice paper-style sheet -all absolutely delicious. We also had a nice hot pitcher of tea that tied everything together perfectly. What made the experience even more special was the warmth of the people there. It's a cozy, family-owned, mom-and-pop kind of restaurant, and you can truly feel that care in both the food and the service. The boy and girl who took our order and served were very polite . They are incredibly fast with receiving the orders as well. My boyfriend & I ordered the black bean chicken feet, crispy garlic springrolls, fried football, prawn chive dumpling, & the egg yolk lava buns for dessert. Everything was fresh and crispy, we reordered some of the dishes a few times. TERRIBLE PLACE! Do NOT come here under ANY circumstances. Arrived here totally wowed by the awesome reviews but this place was genuinely horrible. The selection of dim sum is really basic; not a bad thing, but it should have been a tell tale sign that most of their food was frozen. All the food served was cold, and lukewarm at best. The spare rib was straight fat, the siu mai tasted freezer burnt, and the shrimp and chive dumplings were so overcooked that the wrapping was falling apart before I could even get it in my mouth. The sticky rice looked like regurgitated dog vomit. Do yourself a favor and go up to Vancouver BC if you want some real authentic dim sum. Don't come here and force yourself to chow down on this overpriced goyslop. read more
