I was walking to another restaurant and stumbled upon Dimassi's -- I've never seen a Mediterranean buffet before, so I had to try it out! $20.99 for dinner, which begins at 4 pm. I took an initial preview first to game plan, and then took a sampling of salads, hummus, beef, chicken, fish, rice and pita. Plate #2 focused on the best items, which for me included the fried chicken, gyro and pita. I even went back for a third small plate of gyro! Been to a couple of their locations and have visited a few times. Not an "all you care to eat" person but I make the exception for Dimassi's. The choices are overwhelming in a good way. Salad options were plentiful and ranged from Tabouli to Fatoush to Kale Caesar. Tried all three and enjoyed them all. Chicken Kabobs and Gyros were tasty and the Feta Pita and Basmati Rice hit the spot. Impressive Dessert spread also. Service was friendly and plates/tables were cleared in a timely manner. So we were heading to the apartment from Hobby Airport but since we knew our driver, he wanted to stop by this place to pick up lunch. We said we'd join him but we need the take away lunch. We had to get to our destination. We picked the foods our driver recommended. His choices were spot on. We don't eat Middle Eastern food much but this eatery was full of diners on a Sunday afternoon! Our friend took us to the buffet area and boy, they had an assortment of colorful and very delicious food. He told us what to get and filled up a to go container with his suggestions. Their dessert selection was surprisingly large but I took a few baklavas. I like them! Overall, we will come back here and spend more time walking along the buffet line. We were in a hurry so we did not linger too long. PS After getting into the apartment, we checked out the food and boy, we had a feast. We just took a bite of each of the dishes and enjoyed ourselves. I must say that since I'm not familiar with Middle eastern food, eating it this way was educational. After visiting the Middle East recently, I was missing the authentic manakeesh and falafels a lot and Dimassi's came through for me. The all you can eat buffet was delicious. Vegetarian dishes include a variety of salads, grilled veggies, cauliy, hummus, baba ghanoush, falafels, zatar manakeesha, pickles and more. The rose water drink was yum. Desserts were okish. While it may appear not much has changed at this popular Dimassi's location, there's been a number of changes in the last year that requires this necessary update. The not-so-good: * New Owners and Management: Compared to the previous management, the service has gone down a notch. These are nice people still, but there are less smiles, more splatters along the buffet line, and the to-go ordering is significantly slower. * In a word: bathrooms. They were far better maintained before but there's still hope and a definite need for soap (#1). * Lamb shank: One of the staples of the Dimassi dinner experience was being able to order lamb shank over the buffet counter. It's still a thing, but a much smaller thing and a less tasty one at that. The very-good: * Updated sign: Before the antiquated sign was practically falling off. The new owners have a new illuminated sign that showcases the modern logo and is way more visible, especially at night. * All hail, kale: Salad was never the most exciting thing here and it still isn't. However, they do have a nice kale salad available at all times and it is refreshing and tasty. * Worthy of an update as well, but the baked chicken is still one of their best items. There was some initial drop off during the transition. but they've since resumed the crispy skin, juicy chunks of meat, and the fall-off-the-bone tenderness that I've come to love. I have always shown love to this location for its central convenience but also because they've always been consistent. This is the best Mediterranean buffet in town. It's clean and the food is consistent. It's always busy and it's definitely a place to go when you're near the south side of Houston. This was my first time at Dimassi's and I was disappointed. I came on a Saturday around 4pm and there were a few customers. A lot of their hot foods were more lukewarm and temperature and they only had one "made to order" item, lamb shank which definitely was tender and not too gamey with big portions, however was room temp and not hot. The "clean" cups at the cup station had food on them as well which made me concerned for the sanitation/cleaning at this place. The flavors of the food were decent but not mindblowing and $25 for the buffet was pretty steep considering the food they offered. read more

But the food is good so this is my Dimassi's of choice. They are constantly cleaning and clearing old plates off of tables, so you won't feel ashamed on counting how many times you got more food due to dirty plates left at your table. Lol. Lunch and dinner buffet varies slightly. However the dinner buffet offer lamb shanks at request; which are included in dinner prices! We love Mediterranean cuisine, and usually frequent Fadi's as it is closer to home, not AYCE but you order and pay for what you want like a cafeteria. We were shopping near NRG and decided to eat at Dimassi's, which we had not done in a few years. I am happy to report that they are still wonderful and an absolute bargain for an AYCE buffet. The display of food is clean and inviting. The many delicious and healthy options, such as Tabbouleh, Eggplant, Cauliflower, Hummus, Chicken Kabobs, Beef Kofte, Gyros, Falafel and Meatballs were fresh and delicious. I came here with my boyfriend and it was a great experience! I don't crave Mediterranean food too often, but when I do, I plan to come back here. The inside is very clean, including the tables.
